Hey, I am considering to buy a 4XHD. My revious phones or handsets were: iPod 4g, iPad 1g, iPhone 4G, Samsung GALAXY Note 1, iPhone 4G. The 4XHD costs around 250€ in Germany. How is the development here? Are there many people (like in the s3 forum). Can I expand the memory? Replaceable battery? I like to play games like Modern Combat, Asphalt etc. Is the quadcore good enough? Thanks!
You can use memory card up to 64gb, battery is change able too but Tegra 3 is bad. It heats up really quick and starts to lag. I didn't played modern combat but asphalt 7 was smooth. And btw iPhone 4 runs gameloft games well am I right? So why are you want to change to Android OS? Go for Nexus 4 or optimus g pro or wait for g2 all these phones are made by LG.

I can't agree that Tegra 3 is *that* bad. I've got no unusual lag anywhere (just typical Android ones). Yes, it warms up but it's not scorching hot or anything. Every phone heats up after 10 minutes of constant usage. Battery life is on par with other quad cpu phones, depending on you usage, ofc. I mean, I can deplete the entire extra-capacity battery on my old Nokia X6 (almost the same as XM5800), if I use it continuously, in 3 hours, and I can do the same with 4X. A friend got brand new S3 and with moderate daily usage, he gets from sunrise til sundown, same as me. But his phone was 150 euros more and that was a bargain (Samsung Galaxies are somewhat overpriced on my local market). Battery is easily replaced and you can expand storage with microSD cards. I'd recommend this phone, it's the best bang for the buck.

Several features that other phones have, are not included on the LG 4X HD.
You cannot plug in a USB stick with a passive adapter. The S3 can even run 2,5" Harddrives without additional power!
LG is really badly slow on software updates for 4X HD. Android 4.3 is out and the newest official is android 4.1, still not over-the-air in Germany.
(i.e. the 4.0.3 that comes preinstalled prevents you from taking videos with instagram)
The camera has it quirks.
-Bad in low light, (has a fix)
-Corrupts images above 5MBytes (no fix) (i.E. you make photo from computer screen, moire effect, ımage is broken, you can not send via whatsapp, need to take photo again and so on..)
-My camera has dust on sensor after 6 months use, no other phone did this. (I even use a bag, always)
GNSS module does GPS and Glonass, but some weird settings prevent apps from using Glonass (Why ? If it is there, just use it. Damn U LG)
Localisation by Wifi and phone towers is broken on my handset, it works with google maps, but not with other apps. No idea why ? Fixed this twice with some settings but it keeps changing settings back.
As for memory and battery, you should have simply checked www.gh.de, you would have seen that they are changeable. The screen is pretty bright on the highest setting.
Go for a Nexus 4 or any other phone, you will be happier...
Software updates aren't my problem. I will surely use CyanogenMod! But are the processor and graphics optimized to the software (Does JellyBean with LG Ui run well)?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
phone with Cyanogen 10.1.2 with custom kernel is good(no need to stuck or lg ui or anything Default, it lags and heats)... no lag, last version of android, no heating to much and everything works well
problems is :
1 day moderate to heavy usage battery,(with CM better battery) maybe other phones in this range last a little longer
no notification light (will be fixed with some programs or ROMs(uses button back light for notification)
no usb flash support (fixed with some kernels but not tested)
Noticer it's your choice we just want to tell LG O4x is not a really good phone for gaming a 2 cores device can play lag free games like GTA too. But for that value lg is a good choice JUST NOT FOR Gaming.

Hi OB users, I have been very tempted to buy this phone but I have a few questions that hopefully you can help me answer and decide whether or not it is a good decision to go ahead and buy it.
1.-I've heard battery life sucks, is this true? will it improve significantly if GB is ever released by LG (or maybe ICS will be the immediate update instead)?
2.-LG announced ICS will be released for OB, but I have also seen that LG has let down users many times with upgrades (e.g. GB), so do you still trust LG for keeping your HW up to date in terms of SW?
3.-If you could chose, would you chose again the OB or you would pass?
4.-Have you found HW limitations that have a direct impact over Android performance(amount of RAM, being only single core where the trend is to go dual or even quad)?
5.-Any last thoughts you could give me about your experience with this phone
Thanks in advance to everyone who took the time of reading my post, hopefully you can help me make the best decision.
Answers :
1 - battery life is normal, as any other 4" 1500mah phone, no better,no worse.
2 - Yes i trust about the release, but not the release "date".
3 - For single core, i will choose OB, my next pass is Galaxy Note at moment D), may be different when i actually changing from OB to any other device; but will wait for 3-4 months, OB meets all my need so far.
4 - 1080p video gives jerks, but 720p video runs very smoothly on OB. Haven't experienced much h/w limitations so far. [ i mean look at market, mobiles like Galaxy Y, Ace; Optimus One/Net; Defy etc occupy more than 70% of android phones, so a single core 1ghz 512mb RAM is not bad at all.. ]
5 - Display brightness and colour contrast is by far the best in whole era of smartphones, except LG PRADA 3 releasing this christmas.
It is a good option, as you may know is not the best out there, but it is a good one.
Everyone knows that smartphones are hungryphones, so it's almost the same issue to all devices. I do moderate use of it [2~3 hours calling, 2~3 hours music/gaming, about 1hour of wifi] daily and charge it every 2 days, so it's fine for me.
At the moment there is no single game that I tested and fail. Asphalt HD 6, PES 12, Fieldunners HD, GunBros [and playing online], Minigore, World of Goo, AngryBirds [all of them] and so on...
Display is a higher pro, 12pm at summer and sunniest day of the year still clearly see that display.
I'm not and android knower or anything, but in my opinion the only thing bad is SW updates or should I say no updates at all, but hey we have cm7 in good shape now and getting better
1. For me I find that the battery life of my OB can be quite erratic. Meaning sometimes it could last for 2days without charging, and sometimes the battery will just be depleted overnight (which is quite scary if you're using it as an alarm)
^Without me installing any new apps.
2. They promised, so they would have to get ICS out by hook or by crook or it will be very very bad publicity.
3&4. This I'm not too sure about myself. What I look for in a phone is it being slim and light, and a good camera. The OB is one of the thinnest phones at an affordable price. Maybe I would have gotten the Galaxy S2 or Droid Razr. So far I haven't seen it lag in heavy games like NOVA.
5. The screen is very good, colour accuracy is better than those AMOLED displays every other phone is using imo. the whites on the screen are realllllly white.
1.) Battery life definitely does not suck, it will last for 24 hours with Wi-Fi on, 3G off, 3-4 audio calls, 2 hour gaming, 3-4-5 browsing, Facebook, Messenger, Foursquare, Latitude open non stop, 30min-1h of navigation, 2-3 hours of music on the headphones, screen light on optimized (based on the light sensor ).
I know that some people wish that their Android's battery will last a week or so, but it's not 2001 anymore and these phones are not the 3310s anymore, so, IMHO, 24 hours is great, considering everything you're doing with it in that interval.
2.) Now that I've finally rooted it, I really don;t care. Yes, LG has been really delayed with the GB update, and that could possibly mean that it will delay the ICS release a lot, but that's what we have XDA for, right ?
3.) I would definitely choose the OB again. In my humble opinion it is the best price/performance ratio out there. Big screen, powerful single-core processor, enough ram to handle almost anything you throw @ it, the PowerVR GPU is a great video chipset, third best after MALI and Tegra on the market right now, all in all it's a great phone, and yes, there's always going to be a newer, better phone released, but for its price, the OB does it all.
4.)I kind of already answered that, I'll fill in additional details: There are almost no lags within the UI, the default LG Launcher is sometimes a bit laggy for half a second or so, but its just the launcher, not the phone. After replacing it with Launcher Pro for example, it performs beautifully. My Core i5 Desktop PC doesn't cycle through Windows that smooth :O The 720p playback is brilliant, no lag or other problems at all.
5.) Any last thoughts ? My personal conclusion after owning it and a SGSII for over 2 months now is this: it does 85-90% of what the SGSII does at almost half the price. Definitely a bargain !
Wish you luck with your new phone, regardless of what that will be.
Yes and no
It's like a good car with a bad driver on it... (Hardware and software) I suggest you to find a good car with a good driver Xpreia Neo V can be a good alternative...
if you want high end stuff I suggest you to wait panasonic's come back nearly april (will be presented at CES 2012)
there is also the "free thinking festival" about the OB
Thanks to everyone who read my post and dedicated some time to answer back. OB seems like a really good phone to me now, so hopefully, within the first 2 months of 2012 I might put my hands in one of those (or even sooner if I find it at a good price). Thanks again guys, you are much better than the people on the Acer tab A500 forum that I frequently check. Looking forward for more opinions
in a nutshell, if u want a brilliant 4 inch of screen estate, decent CPU nd a capable GPU,a sleek sexy and awesome looker, vivid camera and the best FRONT FACING cam,a great gesture controllable UI, go for op. Black. The software is no prob.
I had a tok wid MIUI and they confirmed immediate support for the device.also, the official GB will be available by jan latest.
If u want to hear glitches of this phone, am sorry to disappoint you....root nd delete the LG BLOATWRE,u wl hv 1day with heavy use.
I was watching this review on youtube and the guy mentions 2 issues:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1BbO5TI7Fg
1.-The phone overheats and becomes unbearable to hold
2.-Signal strenght decreases while holding it (similar to iPhone 4)
Could you guys share your experience in these 2 areas? I am thinking this guy might have received a faulty unit, but I just want to confirm. Thanks again guys.

The phone may overheat when you use it while it is charging or if you're playing heavy games. My OB haven't heated up to a point thats unbearable to hold. Usually the camera area heats up. I believe that all slim phones heat up just like my friend's S2.
When it comes to signal, it's almost at par with nokia phones. With my Giorgio Armani phone, I can't even send sms inside my room, but with my OB, I can recieve and send sms anytime.
Had no such problems until now. Only heated once, but I was heavily multi-tasking atm, cooled down 2-3 minutes later. Regarding the signal, I had trouble with my old Sony Ericsson w960i and with my newer BB 8520 Curve inside this house, but the signal, even on 3G, on the OB is pure brilliancy !
Tips:
for browser use opera mobile for smooth hardware accelerated browsing.
for launcher use launcherpro. Its the smoothest launcher out there.
With all the above and CM7 the effect is my P970 is more responsive than my iphone4. Definitely worth the buy. Other good option with much tempting price is samsung galaxy W.
In my opinion its the BEST VFM out there...i m very satisfied with it!
3.-i would pass.
4.-hw is somewhat limited. gpu is weakest in competition. but games' generally working ok.
5.- sound quailty sucks. buy yourself a mp3 player with ob.
HW-wise the phone is unusable as a car navgiation. The GPS is incredibely inaccurate (50-100m difference is not a problem).
I never experienced overheating (yes, if you push it it's warm but not too much)
SW-wise the original firmware is quite buggy - there are problems with contacts associations, it happened that my phone stopped recieving SMS. There is no stable alternative, nor there is GB upgrade.
If I was considering buying the phone again, I would go for Nexus S, which costs nearly the same money, has larger community support, there is official ICS port and I can actually use it in my car.
As much as I like the 4X I am very disappointed with the battery life and the fact we cannot obtain root (well majority of us).
I keep looking at the Hong Kong version of the Meizu MX 4 core. Had a look at some reviews and un boxing vids and looks like a nice device. Has anyone ever used a Meizu device before? What are everyone's views on this?

I guess it depends what you want from your phone.
I am quite happy with the battery life and its definitely better after several cycles and the v10d update.
Couple of things struck me with the Meizu when compared to O4X though:
4.0" screen vs 4.7"
640 x 960 res vs 1280 x 720
No microSD slot
Micro SIM only
Personally don't like the design either, looks like a chinese iphone clone to me.
Of course it is each to their own though, everyone wants something different from their phones. I bought the O4X on the merits it has, that none of the other current flagships could give me.

I have the meizu mx 2 core, its a nice phone hardware wise.
screen is very good its almost 300ppi so no dif. really vs the LG phone.
sound in calls are very low even at highest setting.
sound from headphones and speaker is by far the best on any android phone with its wolfson chip.
but there is bad translations in english mode, u have to use locale apps to get right in maps and searches.
u have to install special apps to get into the "real menu" for sync accounts otherwise its flyme only.
almost all support is in chinese.
not much rom development on the device even if its the HK version.
if miui gets a release soon it might be good but i cant recomend it software wise.

Perhaps you have some battery eating app running?
I always have data off until I need it and WiFi only on when the screen is on and since v10d the phone drops about 2% battery overnight now.
Seems the saver core works really well in standby as that matches my sensation with a custom battery saver kernel.

sadly, i am starting to share the same opinion, NOT because of root options, but the functionality of the OS on this model.
it seems they handle sensors incorrectly, and without root, we cannot even try to fix it here.
- is it just me or is it very annoying that when you press power, it takes ages (2-3 seconds) before it responds and turn on the display? (when its in standby)
- when you hang up a call, is it just me or does the thing takes forever?, and the proximity sensor for turning on display when you move it away from your head, i know it can be modified, but why would LG have the delay soooo f.... long? HTC has none of these issues, its almost close to being tooo sensitive?

I don't have that kind of issue. Does it stay after a full wipe ?
I had a Gnote juste before the 4x HD. Every body was happy about Gnote battery life but not me. With to different Gnote under cyanogen, i had constant battery drain. I'm sure it was software, but i never found wich app was draining. For me, there was no way to have a full day without charging.
Lg 4x is working better for my usage. With green power, i lost maybe 1% during the whole night. The screen is far more responsive. Its seems to handle more precise finger position, build quality is top, size great, screen perfect.
Really a great little phone. i'm quite happy.

looking at your post, i did the test and gound that you are right! but it's been half a month since i got this phone, and i did notice it before i read it from your post... so there are no use case for me where it can be realy annoying, because we are always talking about 1 to 3 seconds!
also, mi old Galaxy S with CM9 isn't faster .
I am also waiting for root (battery life is ok for me since v10d although my wifi is on all the time), but since this phone is realy new, an not as popular as Samsung ans HTC's flagships, I know that it will take more time.

i had a Galaxy S too and still is within family reach and i do honestly not feel it was that bad. but yes we might be down to 1/2 a second, but the feel of this is a little annoying. but yes, i come to live it hoping i can fix it when its rooted but really, LG could have made it customizable. when they had to make it so strange.
everything here is fast, no delays, when calling, screen is intant on/off, also when the phone is laying around and i push the power button, i get nearly instant screen on ....
dunno why, i only have wiped the device before and after the 10D update

Are there any other reasons to jump ship?
Reviews talk about how far the display is from the screen? Is that bad?
Someone from LG told me that the 4XHD can record phone calls (when in conversation go to voicerecorder and start recording, you should hear a beep every 10 seconds orso). Can someone verify this? I know that the SGSII & III can't nor the One X.
Some reviews also talk about the phone being too quiet? How is the volume when ringing? When in a pocket or coat (in a pouch)?
How's in call audio? How's the earpiece audio?
I'm just wondering if when used as a phone the 4xHD is a better option then the OneX? The One X has a proper notification led which is bright unlike the one from the Xperia U (which the sales dip**** should have said before I bought the damn thing). The One X IS loud when playing music and video so assume it's as loud when ringing. The OneX's screen looks great. But it can't record calls which is important for me.
The price difference is about 30 euro's between OneX and 4xHD
Cheers.

OneX and 4xHD are both bad in terms of battery HOWEVER the 4xHD has a bigger and replacable battery.
Also 4xHD's screen is on par with the OneX and thereby the best I've seen to date. (Better than new iPad btw)
Had no issues with sound at all. Speaker is crystal clear (sometimes a bit too clear but still very good), didn't try the music with LG earpieces though. Other earpieces sounded good to me.
Volume of the ringtone... No idea. Didn't really care but haven't missed a call for now, so I suppose it's good enough.
4xHD also has an micro SD card slot (up to 64 gb) wich in my eyes is a huge advantage.
Plus I had nothing but good with LG so far.
You should only consider buying the OneX if:
You need the additional community support (LG will never attract as many devs however cyanogenmod will most likely be ported as soon as it's rooted. (Probably even officially supported))
You need the best camera in town (Except for Nokias 41 Mpix phone-camera of course)... read you need the fastest camera in town.
You need Sense. (LG's is more smooth and really (I mean REALLY REALLY) among the best, however it's just not as polished as HTC's)
You need Dropbox Space (You get Box.net space with LG I think. Too bad I don't really use that.) (OneX has up to 25gb for 2 years).
If you said no to one or all of the above:
Get the LG.
BTW For me Samsung S3 is a no no because of the design, the crappy touchwhizz and the worse screen in sunlight... But it does have the even larger community support and the supposedly less energy consuming processor.
Hey guys
Just to let you know if your having problems with the stock 4x then you can complain to LG about it. On their chat support you can ask to raise a VOC (voice of customer) then give them suggestions and improvements. When I talked to support the guy did try to help even though I don't have an optimus 4X.
I'm sure they'll try to help if they can.

sorry, im new to LG *moving from htc*
first, i have an option of one x, 4x hd and s3.. dunno which to get.. i want tegra games so im considering this..
first question, how are the games? D:
2nd, hows the bat life? compared to one x and s3 interms of gaming? D:
3rd, no notification led?
4th, no chance of bootloader being unlocked?
any other pros/cons i need to know?
which would you recommend from the 3 phone? D:
I sold my S3 sold I could get the 4x and the single biggest reason was due to signal strength the Samsung was shocking even though I had the Note before and this was reasonably and in line with the ip4s I had before. I have had the LG for a couple of days now and the signal is massively better than both.
I think its a little too soon to comment on battery but will know early next week after it has bedded in and had a few charges.
As for games it seems to be ok but haven't really tried any of the tegra specific stuff. Facebook seems to loads pictures quicker and I prefer the scrolling on web pages and this is via my wifi so i cant just be better signal creating a better connection

The LG is the only one that supposedly can do full 2-way call recording. At least the international version can.
On the other hand, LG will probably reveal in September the 4x HD successor. Due to the 4X ´s bad sales and all major telcos and stores not even considering the 4X in their stores. A shame really because this way all we get is Apple and Samsung which will inevitable keep their prices skyhigh.
Of course IF LG really learn (which they DON´T) and does release the ultimate SIII killer then things 'might' become interesting. Offcourse WHEn the new device will be revealed expect the (remaining) 4X HD's being dumped like crap at unbelievable prices.
I'd just hold on for just a few weeks.

LG F180?
I wouldn't worry about it if the price is higher than this O4X I got.

how's battery life? Most reviews say that this has below average battery life. And I have seen the battery drops from full to about 1/3 or half the battery bar in 15-20 minute long video reviews.
Does this phone have GPS/ Signal/ wifi antenna issues?
thanks everyone.

For normal daily use my 4X can last for 18-20 hours after a full charge ( I very seldom play game, play music or watch vedio for a very long time), furthermore I have a free spare battery life to standby
I don't have any issue with GPS/ Signal/ wifi or antenna, in fact I find the GPS wors better than my previous IP4S!!

I normally use my phone for about 2-3 hours for web-browsing and checking social networking sites that use GPS since I take the train. Do you think the battery will be enough to last me the whole day (9,10am- to 6,7pm).

How much does this drains the battery?
Wait for the Optimus G, it's almost like the 4X but WAY faster and 13 mp camera and snapdragon s4 pro. It'll probably be released next month to October .
Made possible by my sexy LG Optimus 4X HD (P880)
As I'm one of the many who couldn't get a N4 yesterday and need a new phone stat, I can pick this phone up for the same price as the N4 after you factor postage.
Is it a comparable option?
not even close..
dont buy this ._.
It certainly is. Besides the software being older on this phone u get removable memory and battery what is a big benefit already better for playing games because tegra 3 supports all the awesome games. Even thought the 4x and nexus 4 have the same screen size the nexus 4 do has a smaller screen since u have a black bar with home menu and bar symbols always being there and taking away real estate of the screen. U have like more like a 4.5 inch screen then actually 4.7. Besides the software I do not see any advantages that the nexus 4 has.

..honestly can't see any technical reason why people would want the n4 over either the lg4x or the nexus 7 (read: tegra 3 over Snapdragon). I mean.. it has worse media-playback, with higher battery drain. All of the media-functions that work at the same level will consistently draw more power to do so. Standby time is, and has been for ten years or so, a problem for all of Qualcomm's chips in the sense that individual components can't be unlinked and powered down while the larger module is powered on. Bus-transfer speeds is still a bottleneck when it comes to graphics.. The nexus 4 is a bit heavier and thicker as well, which is amazing considering the already large phone the 4x is (..strangely enough, it's also smaller than the onex.. Phones, LG.. not tablets!). There's also the usual (for qualcomm chipsets) higher SAR values, etc. And no external slot for an sd card, obviously, since the iPhone is so awesome and trend-setting, and all that..
What it does have is a lithium polymer battery instead of the lithium ion battery in the 4x. Wish LG would have made replacement lithium polymer cells for the 4x as well. Also, presumably a flashing indicator of some sort on the phone (the 4x doesn't have a blinking notifier if you get a message or miss a call, etc.). On top of that the nexus will, without a doubt, be forcibly bundled with the full google suite, and you will be encouraged to use those programs or else not use the phone at all, I bet. Already a problem on android that if you want to have your own mail-program or reader, it doesn't integrate well with the baseline services and notifications..
Same price? I got mine for $47 singapore. With a $35 plan

Thanks people.
I managed to grab a HOX open box return for cheaper than both, it'll last me a month or two while I see if the N4 is all that. Oh and I'm buying sim free, not contract.
I was seriously thinking of this phone but the lack of custom roms really put me off, I really like to work through the roms and with my atrix I changed roms so often I barely used it
Thanks again.
There's always expectations when new phones like Nexus are close to be released, so I'm curious about what people is waiting for:
like 20 MegaPixel camera, Fingerprint recognition, USB, Bluethoot, 3 GiB of ram, Free google TV (Nice), Diferent USB charger, Front camera Flash, Multi Window (Like samsung) I don't know soo many thinks....
I know you're new here man so I won't be a douche but we pretty much know already what specs the phone will have.
It should be not expensive

What I expect from the new Nexus 5? A crappy camera to continue the tradition.
good price
AVAILABILITY upon launching
I expect it to be so cool that the girls will rush me everywhere I have it!
Hopefully better battery life and OTG support without the need of a external battery source.

Agree and you know it will. I'm still perplexed by people who say they aren't impressed with the specs.
I expect the exact same experience as with my Nexus 4 but faster due to the new cpu and Android 4.4, 30minutes more screen on time, 32gb internal storage, slightly louder speaker due to having dual speakers but not very good either, camera quality should be as good as the Samsung Galaxy S3 but probably not comparable to latest flagship phones. And it will have USB OTG this time, it better or I'll stick with my N4.
I'm so excited for the Nexus 5. I've heard it'll even make your D bigger, cure cancer and cuddle afterwards.
I heard they made a deal with Gillette so they can incorporate the latest fusion pro blade in the phone. How awesome is that?!

Why does Nexus phones have such horrible Battery life
good battery life , good camera , an extended update cycle , no bloatware , and no locking whatsoever. Other things go without saying such as a fast processor a good amount of ram ...

A bigger battery would almost certainly mean a slightly thicker phone. The 1750 battery in my Galaxy Nexus I find more than adequate to last me a day in most cases. Under heavy use, closer to half a day. I have an extra battery though that I usually carry when I think I won't have time to charge it for the rest of the day, just in case.
Good battery life and extreme smoothness
