PSA: I just left straight talk for AIO wireless, but I had to abandon my old phone number to do it. The reason being, in order to port your number, you have to have your straight talk account number, which is the last 15 digits of your SIM number. If you don't have that card that came with your SIM, then you can't get your account number. Straight Talk will NOT give it to you. You can't get it online, and CS won't tell you what it is. Because of this, I could not port my number. So, word to the wise, keep that card your SIM came in.

I thought those numbers were also printed on the sim card itself ?
I just ported my moms iPhone from straight talk to airvoice...I used the phones serial (IMEI) for the account # and you can find the pin when u log on to your st account...did this last month

Cust service gave my sister her account number about a week ago.....
I ported my number to GoPhone back in March and was never asked for any account info but I did it in person at an AT&T corporate store. The agent at the AT&T store couldn't get the number to port on his computer as ST wouldn't release it. So he called into AT&T and a person there then called ST and we did a 3 way and got it ported, took all of 5 minutes. I was told by the AT&T rep on the phone that they have a special number to call for porting so there's no waiting on hold like I would've had to if I made the call.

This..
They are the underlined numbers on the SIM itself, I just ported my wife's over to N10
Related
I just ported over to this service and I must of hit the wrong call code because now when I dial out it comes up telling me
"conditional forwarding active" or something like that..
i have tried using ##004# and it says call forward erased but it still does it..
also can you tell me what #'s are in your forwarding section in Call settings?
thank you
First Q, if you just ported, it may not be active yet. Usually it only takes a few hours, but I've seen it take longer if information was incorrect. They should have given you a ticket number. Call them back at 877 430-2355, there is an option to check on the port status.
Second q, how did you activate service? Did you go the byod way and just buy a SIM card from them? Or did you go the roundabout way by buying the e71 and switching out the SIM? If the first, make sure the number they gave you on the red activation card is correct when you call in. You can't use the imei from your note. If the second, make sure the imei for the e71 is correct.

thank you for the reply..it all seems to be working now so i think it was a port issue like you mentioned.
Hi, I'm interested in switching my N6 to Verizon from T-Mobile. However I input my IMEI on the VZW website checker and apparently the phone (bought at TMO and allegedly unlocked) is incompatible.
I vaguely recall that to get a non VZW phone onto there network, one ahs to use a previously registered sim from another phone. Anyone know if and how this works?
Is there something that starts with 990?
My verizon nexus 6 order shipment email shows the imei start with 990
Theres a few threads that explain how to do this and more than one way. I did this for my dad. Basically, u need a verizon nano sim activated and jus pop it in.

As someone who has done this... it causes other problems because you have an "unknown device" they basically wont let me me changes to my plan because of it. For example enable advanced calling. After *****ing at them for an hour someone said there is a form we can fill out to register your device on our network so it doesn't show that way.... they said it takes 1-3 business days to process and i did it on Friday. If it actually works i will make a post on it. to inform the masses.

First, thanks to the mod for moving this to the Q&A section! I will remember next time...
I actually decided that, if I can, I would like to move to Straight Talk with my Nexus 6. I ordered a $0.99 CDMA activation off their website (with free delivery, I felt this was a cost I could swallow if it doesn't work out!). The Nexus 6 IMEI doesn't get recognized as compatible on ST either which means, I suppose, that they can only activate Verizon-registered IMEIs.
Not sure how to proceed from here though. I have an iPhone 5S which is ex-Verizon (now T-Mobile) from which I could activate the ST service, after which I can put the SIM into the Nexus 6 to see if it works. There are no other options to the ST service I want, so changing service isn't an issue. Are there any other ways to approach this? Perhaps I should do what JustusIV is doing and register the phone with Verizon first?

Yeah, I think the easiest way for you would be to just activate your sim card in the iphone and then move the sim card to the Nexus.
I have verizon, and all I had to do was cut my microsim from my previous device down to nano size and put it in the Nexus. The only issue is, like they said above, MyVerizon registers it as a "Non-VZW Device" which can cause issues with making account changes. I'm interested to hear the results of the guy above that says he can fill out a form so it doesn't show up that way.

This was a bust.... more miss information from the crap customer service.
Went through the same thing. Unless your imei starts with 99 it won't be recognized from vzw. However, all the features do work as advertised. I had no problem adding advanced calling 1.0 and changing voicemail options on my account. I bought the phone through a relative that was on t-mo in december. Been on vzw since.
My carrier is Verizon. I have an individual plan with a 2 year contract. My phone is an LG G3.
I recently just bought a Nexus 6 right off of the Google Store. The Nexus 6 takes a nano Sim card and unfortunately for me my current Verizon sim card in my LG G3 is a micro sim.
After going back and forth with Verizon I realized there is no official way of getting a nano sim card for a Nexus 6 IMEI bought directly from Google.
My unnoficial options:
1. Get a sim card cutter off of Amazon and cut my current sim card and put it in my Nexus 6. Then sell my LG G3 on EBay. When the next user gives the IMEI to a Verizon rep will this cause a problem since technically the IMEI / Sim number combo is still on my account?
2. An employee at a 3rd party Verizon reseller said he could just activate a new nano sim card using an IMEI number from a dummy iPhone that he has laying around. If I go this route my account will have an iPhone and a G3 on it I guess. Would I have to worry if the employee does the same thing for someone else? Does Verizon keep track of IMEIs or just device names on peoples accounts? If I go this route I will also be selling my G3 on EBay.
Can someone who has knowledge on this topic please tell me which path they would prefer and why? I would like to know the downsides of each method.

Once you pop the SIM in the N6, it will show up on your account as "Non-VZW device". The phone you use to activate the SIM will no longer show. So it doesn't matter what you do with the other phone afterwards.
I would go with the second option though so you don't have worry about cutting the SIM down. I thought it was really easy and I cut my micro down with scissors while I was sitting in traffic, but some people have had issues.

Thank you for the response this is exactly what I was looking for!!! Any idea why my google voice won't work. Is it possibly because I was subscribed to Verizon Visual Voicemail Basic on my previous phone? I have never had problems setting google voice up on any of my past verizon phones until the N6.

Make sure that call forwarding didn't get turned off on your line. I had to call Verizon support & get a rep to turn it back on. Or dial *72 and then your Google voice number.
Hi All,
My son bought a Note 4 for me from his friend who went out of contract and no longer needed his Note 4. It is a white NOTE 4. We already got a T-MOBILE account for this white phone...with the IMEI but it turns out I do not like the white color of this phone. His friend offered to just take back the phone and says I can buy a Charcoal Black 32 GB Note 4 from the store instead.
Now my question is: do I have to call T-Mobile and have them register a new IMEI number to the same SIM card from the older white phone? Or can I just instantly use this new sim card without informing them of the new phone's IMEI?
Thank you
Jack
No need to call, your service is tied to the SIM card and not the phone. Just move the SIM card over. If you buy a new device, they charge you a $15 SIM kit anyway for a replacement card. You can tell them to use the existing SIM otherwise they will activate the new one and move your service over.
Hi Nifty,
Thank you for a quick reply! Pardon my lack of knowledge as I have always been on Verizon (CDMA) and with them it's like a chain and dagger sort of system with always calling in, feeding them IMEI numbers etc through the years then waiting 72 hours for the phone service to activate.
I always thought the SIM card had the IMEI of a device/phone linked to it? Is this not the case?
So basically I can just pop in the SIM and it won't have me "activate" the device or call in etc? To clarify: this SIM card was already activated for that White Samsung Galaxy Note 4 of my friend's son. I just want to switch it over to another Note 4 from T-Mobile that is black color

hi
but isn't the sim or my account registered to the old phone's IMEI number?
Bumping this. I am sure anyone with T-Mobile can help me out here before the week starts.
T-Mobile Chat gave me this answer
"You: Would doing so require me to activate again? Or provide an IMEI number to T-Mobile similar to Verizon when switching phones?
You: or can i just take my SIM card from my current phone, pop it in the other one and im good to go?
Reichell V: Thank you for this information that you provided regarding changing the phone. No worries! You are correct you can just simply insert the sim card on your new phone and you are good to go"

That's the beauty of GSM, just pop in the sim for the carrier you want to use in the phone you want to use and you're good to go!
I hope the op enjoys the benefits of GSM as we do
Unlike CDMA which you need to register the IMEI of the phone in order to tie it to your service for example Verizon, Sprint, etc . GSM ties the service to the sim card so you may transfer it from device to device without having to get a new one or call customer support. Only reason you may need a new sim card is if the current one doesn't support LTE and in that case you would need to get a new one from T-Mobile and activate it.
Did anyone here successfully unlock T-Mobile GN8 buying directly from Samsung.com?
You need to chat with tmobile Twitter. They unlocked my T-Mobile s8 purchased from Samsung.com. It takes a few days for your emei to be added to their system then use the unlock app to unlock.

My TMO Note 8 was ordered direct from Samsung and paid in full at the time of purchase. I just used the sim card from my S7 to switch phones for the Note 8. When I go to my TMO account online the Note 8 is shown as my phone, but when I hit the link on the web page to check unlock status I get a message that the phone is not listed in the TMO system. I stopped by a TMO store to ask about this and was told the phone is showing up but that I have to use it on my account for 40 days before TMO will request the unlock code. I am travelling internationally in November and want the phone unlocked before I go.

If the phone is paid in full, you're not required to wait 40 days! That rep was shooting sh!t out of his @sshole! You're eligible for an immediate unlock!
i contacted T-Mobile via Twitter and they said they will put in required to have it unlocked and would take couple days for the them to email me back to let me know whenever it ready to unlock using Device Unlock app.
I still get this message when I sign in to my TMO account: This device is not in our system.
I am wondering if the problem is that I just took the old sim card from the S7E and put it into my N8. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I should switch sim cards and use the new one that came in the box with the N8?
3 day after contacted T-Mobile, mine device successfully unlocked using Device Unlock app which is what they told me to wait for 72hrs before try it.

Can you be more specific? Did you talk to person, or tweet, did you gave them your imei? Because I wasted half an hour talking to multiple people at customer service and finally was told by some idiot tech that my T-mo phone comes unlock from factory. Very frustrating, you would imagine they know a little bit about their phones, but it's like trying to explain theory of relativity to 2 yr old.
