Battery charging problem - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have tried searching the forums for this however have not found anything specific to my case.
My phone's battery died about a month ago and I left it on charge overnight to find that it hadn't charged at all. I charged it for a further 2 hours on a different socket with still no luck, so then charged it by USB on a PC for another 2-3 hours until it powered on.
This problem has luckily not occurred again, however ever since this, every USB wall charger I have previously used to charge the phone (Samsung charger and other various ones) do not charge the phone. The only wall charger that works is an iphone one. I think I broke the OEM charger so am not exactly sure where the fault lies in that, charger or phone. It is definately not a fault with the cable(s) that I am using.
So my question is this, could this be a potentially battery/phone degrading problem, and is this reason enough to send the phone off for warranty, or will they turn round and say "well you should be using the OEM charger anyway". Just seems wrong that they used to work, now they don't.
Thanks for your help, really appreciate it,
Wayne.
*** EDIT: I have also flashed a stock vodafone .FTF and updated to lastest firmware with no change ***

Anyone have any idea?

I think you have to try to charge your phone with another OEM charger (maybe you have friends that also in possession of Xperia Z).
If the phone still not charging, then you should claim your warranty. Just don't tell Sony that you were using non-OEM chargers to charge your phone. Just tell them your battery is dead and the charger doesn't work anymore.

Since am in India, this phone is not covered under warranty nor are the part available. Can somebody help me by pointing me to site wherein i can buy the spares for the phone. I found this site in China but they are not selling it as of now.

I stopped using my home charger because a few days ago, I'd plug it in, it would show it was charging but I'd wake up and it would be almost dead. Next night, same thing. I plugged it in one day, watched it, and it was LOSING power pretty quickly.
I think my charger has a short as well.
I think im having a problem with my charger as well, If i use the A/C charger when I wake up the phone is extremely hot so I play it safe and use usb and a blackberry charger

Stressful Charging Issue

So one day my phone randomly stopped charging correctly..... It was working perfectly like 2 days ago. But now every time I want to charge my phone I have to bend the HTC charging cord down so that it will charge and most of the time it doesn't even charge properly. If I just put it in normally it will not charge at all. The highest I got my phone to charge was 47% and from there it just goes down because my phone doesnt charge properly.
Ive had a problem with my charging port before but Ive gotten it replaced and it was working perfectly.
I also got a brand new charging cord for about $30 so the cord is not the problem.
Ive also tried to use a friends cord and charge my phone but I still have to bend the cord to get it to work.
Someone please help me with this.. This is very stressful. My phone was working fine 2 days ago. And its been working perfectly for a long time. But now all of a sudden it wants to stop working properly.

Same exact thing happened to me, I wouldn't toy around with it too much because I completely broke mine to where it won't charge at all now..
What I suggest is getting a charger dock for just your batteries (if you have more than one) or just buy a new charger port and replace it.. it's only held in by two screws.

How much does a charger dock cost?
You could probably find a cheap charger dock on eBay. Albeit it might be of poorer grade, it would be enough to get you by.

Charger
Amazon is a good resource for many things, including chargers. I bought a battery for my old phone there, and it came with a free external battery charger. It turns out that it charges most any LiOn battery. The charger is built by Anker, and costs about $5 or $10. A very good technique is to buy a second battery and charge it, then swap batteries when the phone's battery gets low. That way you always have a charged battery available.

Xperia Z - Charges very slow or not at all on OEM charger

I'm not sure how many of you are using the stock OEM charger that comes with the Z. I''ve been using a generic 5v USB wall charger which I've used on many many phones for a while but a few nights ago I decided to use the Sony Z OEM charger (which comes in the box) and put my Z on charge over night.
In the morning I noticed, that the OEM charger only charged my Z about 5% extra over 7-8 hours while I was sleeping. However if I use any other USB charger, or connect it to my laptop or desktop PC, it charges very quick - I plugged it into my work PC this morning and it was full in less than an hour...
Anyone else out there having a similar experience? Its almost as if the stock OEM charger is underpowered, or faulty...
I would suggest you have a faulty charger as my OEM unit is very quick to charge from the wall.

Anddd there is a catch. There is something I've noticed. If the phone gets hot, phone doesn't charge at all, even it's connected to the charger.
So while playing a game or browsing via 3G/Wifi, phone stops charging.
But while normal texting and stuff it keeps getting charged
In my opinion, Sony has done a great job for keeping the hardware safe at any cost.

Actually I solved the problem today. I have a Nillkin hard case on my Z. Its an awesome case, but the design of it prevents me from inserting the Micro USB into the slot 100%, so it was probably popping out during the night..
I need to find a slim fit Micro USB cable now... All the ones in my house are too big! Alternatively I will have to mod the case.

Does anyone else have trouble charging this phone on other chargers?

So the battery life has been great, and I haven't had to use any other charger other than the OEM for a while. The other day I was out with friends and I took out my car charger (2A) that I hadn't needed since I got the flex because I just don't have to charge my phone like how I used to with my note 2. So anyways, I took it out because I knew I wouldn't be back home for a while and I would have to charge my phone outside the house for the first time ever.
I connected the charger and I got a "slow charge" message on the top, like if I had connected it to a usb port.. ok?....this charger has charged many devices so I know it works. It has even charged tablets, so I thought it was strange. No problem though right? I'll just charge it for a bit at my friends house and just watch my usage throughout the night. As soon as I connected it to my friends OEM samsung 2A Note 2 charger I thought everything was fine until I checked it again about 45 minutes later when we were about to leave. It had charged maybe 1% in those 45 minutes!
So the night passed and I was ok but ever since then it has got me thinking. I have connected several other chargers and they all act the same, the phone charges at maybe 500mAh, not even that sometimes, but with the OEM charger it works like normal.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have experience this with cheap usb chargers. But I also have anywhere from 5 -10 between my house and work and they are all from Samsung and BlackBerry. And they all work just fine.

I just wanted to update you guys. So I shut down the phone and let it sit for a bit and turned it back on. The note 2 charger now charges the flex at an acceptable rate and it seems that maybe it was just glitched. Next time I'll be sure to just turn off and on the phone first if it happens again.

I remember reading somewhere that this phone uses USB 3.0, and the rep told me that using a car charger may trickle charge the battery and cause irreparable damage.. Looking at my OEM cable for my last phone, the S3, the G Flex cable is thicker.. I make sure to only use the one that came with the phone, call me paranoid lol

Battery strange issue

First of all, i'm sorry if any other thread are already open. I've searched but didn't find nothig...
So, what about my problem is
Started from nowhere 2 nights ago... My battery can't reach 100%. wednesday night, stoped at 87% but still show charging. Last night, stoped at 93% and the same..still charging And all of that, happend after almost 9hours of charging. So i m sure it's not related about charging time.
If yours answers does need for a few more details, i'm completly stock, 4.3 version
And another detail about i think it's not a simple coincidence, that issue described above, starded after a looooong conversation on facebook. Phone was veeerry hot and problems started :victory:
Any sugestion will be appreciated :good:
P.S out of warranty
One thing i learned about Samsung:
* The wall adapters suck.
* The cables suck.
My experiences the same, and a 3amp HP Touchpad charger sends it to 100%.
Now, my advice, in this particular order:
* Clean the usb port on the smartphone (needle, carefully!)
* Replace USB cable
* Replace USB cable AND wall adapter.
Thx. Today i'm going to buy another usb cable and charger.
