Samsung Apps on other devices? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung released a really cool app:
App Folder:
Link: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/s...48adb-1429-45ea-a507-f3d5f4cad58c?signin=true
Is there any way to get this on a NOKIA LUMIA windows phone 8? It's developer unlocked.
EDIT:
We don't need this App anymore. The feature is already backed into the OS in the latest Update.

Got it working on HTC 8x. Pretty handy app, but not as good as Android or iPhone folder system. (installed with Fiddler and custom rule replacing HTC with Samsung).

Ok thx. Can You upload The XAP? ?

You can download XAP directly by following the link you provided from the PC browser. On the bottom left side there is a link Download and install manually which will bring you to the XAP.

Ah.... yet another demonstration of what you can do with the high-privilege capabilities that WP8 supports. Note that list of installed apps? That's not (officially / publicly) possible. It would, however, allow doing things like writing an app that checks how much storage every app is using - a very handy feature that was homebrewed into WP7, and present out of the box on recent Android versions, but is missing on WP8 and Microsoft won't let us develop it ourselves.

You can try install with this tutorial: http://www.windowsmania.pl/poradnik...i-producenta-na-dowolnym-urzadzeniu-wp8-4496/
This is in Polish, but you can use google translator. Now I have on my Lumia 820 "App folder" app from the Samsung store.

From reading some other threads I figured out how to get my phone to connect using my PCs connection through Fiddler but the whole AutoResponder piece I'm still having issues with as the Polish translation is unclear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Small translating:
1. Download Fiddler2 for your netframework (2 or 4) http://fiddler2.com/get-fiddle and install on PC.
2. Run Fiddler2 and go to: Tools => Fiddler Options => Connections
3. In this window you have to select option: "Allow remote computers to connect" and "ok".
4. Go to cmd console (LogoWin+R) write "cmd" and comend: "ipconfig"
5. In cmd window you have to find IPv4 for WiFi connection eg. 192.168.0.101.
6. On your phone you have to edit your actual WiFi connetcion for server PROXY. In the place for server ip, you have to write above IPv4 adress and for port 8888. Next save changes but not close WiFi settings.
7. Plug in phone to the PC and open market store. Find any application and in left window from Fiddler2 you have to find link eg. marketplaceedgeservice.windowsphone bla, bla, bla - select him and in right window select tab "AutoResponder" and check two checkboxes:
"Enable automatic responses"
"Unmatched requests passthrought"
and click: "Add rule"
8. Now, in down you have two strips of address - in first you have adress and second is empty. In first, you have to change app ID for aplication to install (for AppFolder is: 1a248adb-1429-45ea-a507-f3d5f4cad58c) for other Samsung apps check this: http://www.windowsphone.com/pl-pl/store/oem/samsung-zone?oemid=samsung
9. Now, select and copy address and paste him to second strips but change EXACT to *redir.
10. Next you have to find in address name device (eg. NOKIA, SAMSUNG, etc.) and change him to name producer aplication (for AppFolder is Samsung) and click "Save" (right).
11. Next, use Bing search from the phone and scann QR code for app to instal. Don't touch INSTALL now !!!!!
12. From background run WiFi settings and off server proxy.
13. Now, go to market store with app from backgrund and install app.
I'm sorry for my English, but this process is difficult to translate.

Can you clarify steps 8, 9 and 10. Sorry, but I'm a little confused. Do I put just the App ID 1a248adb-1429-45ea-a507-f3d5f4cad58c in the first line and then put the actual web link for AppFolder in the second line but putting *redir in the front of the address?
Also, I do not see the name of device in the address. If do this from the US site the address is http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/app-folder/1a248adb-1429-45ea-a507-f3d5f4cad58c but it doesn't state the device name in the address for me to change it to SAMSUNG.

Blackberry connect email setup?

I have blackberry connect on my phone, but I can't seem to setup email. I have BIS plan and the setup email button is not lit up..
I've read somewhere that I have to provision my phone or something..
On the service is says Provisioning.. is it suppose to be saying that?
Do I have to plug my phone onto my PC to use blackberry connect? because I have hardware issues with my TyTN II.. so I am unable to connect.
anyone? help
ive never understoos why people want blackberry connect on an exchange capable device.
Is there any big difference betweem the two?
How To Enable BBC CONNECT TO THIS ROM
Install instructions:
1) goto hklm>system>versions and change what ever is there to .0.4.2 (The leading . before the 0 needs to be there)
2) Install bbconnect cab file.
3) If you don't get the check boxes at the end of the install (Calendar, notes, etc). Re-run the install (it will remove the 1st instance), I always get it the second time.
4) Wait for Blackberry to finish "setting up device for first use" and let it reboot.
5) On reboot, status will now show the PIN number.

I have spent all day trying to get my o2 Stellar to give me a PIN...no luck. I have read a lot and i have reached the conclusion that what you write here is correct but does not work for me. Is it because o2 in the UK use different settings? I have also tried .0.4.4.
If anyone could help would be appreciated
YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD Blackberry Connect Desktop to a computer on the company network, plug into USB & then select configure device.
The PIN is generated between the device & the network, your provider CANNOT give it to you.
Also, make sure you've registered with the network first, there is a button in BBC settings for that.

M2D Weather - Adding Custom Cities Tutorial

I just copied my other post to make it easier to find over here. Hopefully you will all find it useful and enjoy the information.
For those who might not understand how to do it, just wanted to post this guide here too.
What you need:
1) HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file. I have attached one below which you can use, or alternatively you can copy the one from the your /windows folder.
2) If you don't have the version which is already patched then you will need the N2A patched file attached below as well.
Here are the steps:
1) Open HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml using Notepad.
2) You will see many cities listed like this:
<city name="Anchorage, US" loca="NAM|US|AK|ANCHORAGE " land="United States " /> (original)
<city name="Ketchikan, AK" loca="NAM|US|AK|KETCHIKAN" land="United States" /> (copied and edited)
Simply copy one of the cities from your country, or state and then edit the city information. You will notice in the example above i have changed "Anchorage, US" to "Ketchikan, AK" as this is just what will display on the screen. The section marked loca=con"CONTINENT|COUNTRY|STATE|CITY" must be typed in correctly or else you will not get any data.
3) Repeate step 2 for as many cities as you would like to add.
4) Disable touchflo on the today screen
5) Copy Manila2D.exe (if you are not using the version already patched), and your newly edited HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file to the /windows folder.
6) Enable touchflo on the today screen again.
7) Go to weather and add new city, the new cities should be available to you. I would remove any old cities you had before as well.
Weather won't download via edge or 3g:
For those of you still having problems with the weather plug-in here is another thing I did to fix it:
1. Go to Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks - Edit (MEdia Net) - Proxy Settings -> UNCHECK BOTH OPTIONS
2. Soft Reset
It should work fine

Scotchua, nice tutorial. I've been using several of your fixes since I discovered them. However, the one note missing from your Manila2D Weather Custom Cities tutoria is how to determine the loca="NAM|US|AK|KETCHIKAN".
I have the solution! For most US locations, you can use the 5-digit ZIP code, but to determine ANY location, including outside the US, use this link to AccuWeather's RSS.
Simply put in your location as instructed in the 'Choose a location' field and click 'Set'. (For this example, I used Whistler, Canada.) The page then generates a URL for you, which looks like accuweather.com/rss/liveweather_rss.asp?metric=0&locCode=NAM|CA|BC|WHISTLER. The piece after locCode= (which I've hilited in Red) is what goes in the loca="" field in the XML file.
Then complete your tutorial, and choose the custom cities! Hope this helps someone else looking to make a quick fix.

Hi all,
Here is what I did to fix my the darn weather problem using my AT&T Tilt through MediaNet.
1. Make a copy of the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml in the Windows folder.
2. Modify the file to include your info. (for me the zip code worked). See the examples below:
Code:
<city name="Idaho Falls, ID" loca="83406" land="United States"/>
<city name="Idaho Falls, ID, US" loca="NAM|US|ID|IDAHO-FALLS" land="United States"/>
3. Copy the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml back to your device (your storage card or My Documents)
4. Disable TouchFlo in your Today Screen settings
5. Using TotalCommander overwrite the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file in the Windows folder
6. Go to Settings, Connections tab, Connections program and select the "Manage existing connections" option.
7. Click the Proxy Settings tab and uncheck the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" option.
8. Click the OK at the top left.
9. Once again, select the "Manage existing connections" option.
10. Click the "Edit..." button for your MediaNet or ISP connection
11. Click Next, Next
12. Click the "Advanced..." button
13. Click the Servers tab at the bottom
14. Click "Use specific server address" and enter the two following addresses for DNS and Alt DNS:
208.067.222.222
208.067.220.220
15. Click OK at the top, then Finish at the bottom, click OK again at the top, then OK again.
16. Reenable TouchFlo in your Today options
17. Go to the Weather Tab and Add your city
18. Enjoy
I have tested the solution on are Garmin's ROMs, but it should solve proxy server issues and DNS issues relating to AT&T's seriously out of date default DNS servers (the proxy server uses an up to date DNS server).
The above DNS servers are from OpenDNS www.opendns.com
Please post and/or PM me if this solution works for you. I've been frustrated at the lack of working weather for my area, so this is the crazy solution I came up with!

Any Suggestions
Hi, I've done everything. However when I try to copy the new file I created with the HH_0409 exe there's problems.
1) when i go into windows on my device and go the the HH_file it will not let me copy it or deleate it, so i could then put in the new file.
2) when I try to copy and paste my new file titled the same HH_0409_WeatherCities to the Windows in device I get a error message that reads (error copy file, cannot copy HH_4090_WeatherCities access is denied. Be certain that there is enough free storage memory that the destination is not write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.)
I have unchecked TouchFlo as stated and done everything as listed. I'd somehow had this working when using MD2 but now that I'm using the Solace 1.5 rom, I'll be darn that I can get this to work. I'm trying to put Millsboro, DE USA into the darn thing. If you have any suggestions I'd be greatly appreciative.
Thank you in advance.

I use total commander (which i have added as an attachement to the first post) to copy the files. If you have tf2d, and done a soft reset, but still cannot copy the files using total commander then i really don't know why your files cannot be overwritten. I've honestly never had that problem before, so i just don't have anyway to help you.
I also got that same error when I was using file explorer but I did get it to work when I used Total Commander.
I downloaded the file to my desktop.
Then opened it with notepad.
Added my city
I then choose to save as and selected the file on my desktop to be overwritten.
I copied it to my storage card.
I then copied it using total commander to the windows directory with TF2d disabled.
soft reset
enabled TF2d and it was there.
Can you give example of with zip code. I tried it using the info off the rss feed hyperlink and still nothing. Thanks.

you need to either copy the patched manila2d.exe file over to /windows or change the DNS server addresses. I tried both methods and they work. They're both in the instructions.
Thanks!

Hey I appreciate the help...I am up and running now. I had saved the Manila2D.exe file to my storage card--I thought I just had to run it like a .cab but obviously (I overlooked it before) you have to save it to /windows. (I didn't have to mess with the DNS settings and I was able to simply enter using the zip code method.)
Guys like you are an asset to the forum...

can you do a step by step using total comander, I stil get a message that the files can not be replaced
I have the same problem. I am using a touch cruise with chavon bravo's rom. Cant move the manila file to windows.
NOTE: OPEN THE XML WITH NOTEPAD, NOT WORDPAD.
Word pad will translate foreign characters and will corrupt the XML file.
I did the step by step instructions, copied both files to the windows folder, and then restarted touchflo. Wheni go to Select location, its completely blank. Any ideas on this one?
still nothing
i'm using hyperdragon IV IOLITE, with touchflo but same trouble, when i've update the XML the new location appears, but when i sync nothing comes, but if i overwrite the patched Manila2d.exe now doesn't come up the manilla.
i don't need the Connection setting, cuz i'm a Mexican user, i've my own settings.
any idea, anybody know if the Hyperdragon IV IOLITE has already the manilla patched version?
this is the change in the XML NAM|MX|MX019|MONTERREY, the original MONTERREY has MX005 and comes with other weather forecast not from my city
i've tried two ways, overtwritin' the original Monterrey item, and adding another as MonterreyNL, and as i told you, in both ways the new setting pops now but can't get weather and in the other locations JUST FINE!!
Custom M2D Weather
hi guys, maybe I have the definitive solution to setting new cities on M2D weather. (or at least on my Kaiser go on)
1) in M2D weather set one city whatever you want is indifferent.
2) disable touchflo in today setup
3) open REGISTRY EDITOR and go on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then open software, then open HTC, then open Manila2D, then open Weather here you have two choice "0" and "setting" in both of them there are two item: "Location" and "Location Code". (you have to modify the item in "0" and in "setting")
So, when you tap in Location, you have to insert a string like this:
Caprese Michelangelo, It (first city name and after the nation)
When you tap in location code, you have to insert a string like this:
eur|it|it016|Caprese Michelangelo
If you want repeat for other city. At the end enable touchflo on the today screen again and upgrade the weather.
Work fine for me on my Tytn II.
original manila
where can i get the original manila2d? cuz i dont like the patched one
pincopinco,
You the man!! Just tried it on my TyTNII and worked first time! Outstanding!

I seem to have deleted a DWORD in HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/MANILA 2D/WEATHER/SETTINGS because the keyboard was in the way and I rewrote a DWORD by mistake. Could anyone please list all DWORDS under HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/MANILA 2D/WEATHER/SETTINGS?
FINALLY a simple fix-Thanks!

hi guys, maybe I have the definitive solution to setting new cities on M2D weather.

Man, thank you, thank you, thank you! This is the first fix that worked easily without messing up something else. City data now updating like a charm on my Vogue. Thanks again for sharing.

More cities in TouchFlo weather

Hi all,
I would like to know if it's possible to add more cities in the TouchFlow weather tab, when these cities are not part of the database.
For example, in the Touch Diamond, this was possible by adding a registry value.
I tried the same way .... without success.
Help really appreciated!
Thank's
more cities in the weather tab
this might answear your question, best of lucks!

Hi all,
Here is what I did to fix my the darn weather problem using my AT&T Tilt through MediaNet.
1. Make a copy of the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml in the Windows folder.
2. Modify the file to include your info. (for me the zip code worked). See the examples below:
3. Copy the HH_0409_WeatherCities_xml back to your device (your storage card or My Documents)
4. Disable TouchFlo in your Today Screen settings
5. Using TotalCommander overwrite the HH_0409_WeatherCities_xml file in the Windows folder
The above DNS servers are from OpenDNS opendns. com
Please post and/or PM me if this solution works for you. I've been frustrated at the lack of working weather for my area, so this is the crazy solution I came up with!

[XAP] Functional Webserver

I've enhanced my Webserver sample to support reading from the device (where allowed), as well as reading/writing IsolatedStorage
The XAP is located in the Webserver project.
To access the webserver, open the app on your phone (it will disable the idle timer and run behind the lock screen--but WiFi will turn off, so you'll want to be connected via USB or don't let it sleep)
//phone_ip/IsolatedStorage
//phone_ip/Windows
IsolatedStorage is a special case (virtual directory that uses the SDK IsolatedStore APIs), the filesystem is mounted at the root of the webserver. Note that if you navigate to //phone_ip/, you will not see anything, as we are not able to list the contents of the root directory.
I am working to create a real socket library that mimics System.Net/.Sockets, and System.IO for file access. TcpClient and TcpListener are in a mostly functional state already.
Most of the socket and I/O code came from jmorrill. I have pulled code from mono to mimic System.Net.
Perhaps I'll spend some time on the web UI next, maybe a fancy Silverlight uploader. There doesn't seem to be a ton of interest though, so we'll see.
Update ("v2"):
- Authentication
- UI
- Adapter list
- More reliable
nice.. will try it out.
Very nice! Thanks!!
I've updated the sample to one with a UI, Authentication and more reliability.
Looking at your code WP7 looks more and more like a normal windows CE with a secured UI.
Yeah, I think someone with a strong WM background could port code to [native, homebrew] WP7 pretty quickly. Pretty much everything works just fine.... I just wish we could add the System.Net .NET CF assemblies back to the GAC. :/

Noob questions: It says "connect to your wifi address below". How? Also, connect the phone or the pc? And navigate via IE mobile?
As I said, noob questions. Thanks for any help.
start ie and type in http://wifi address
I have found on alternateboot.reg
HTML:
; Disable MTPz USB function driver
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\CompositeFN]
"ClientDriverList"=multi_sz:"Serial_Class"
What is MTPz USB function driver?

... which gives me the ever-popular "cannot find server or DNS address". What am I doing wrong? I assume you meant IE on my phone.

I think (might be misreading your question), you'll need to plug your device in to USB (or be prepared to loose the connection), then on your desktop, go to one of the IPs listed (in IE or any other browser).
On the screenshot shown, WiFi is the last one, with "BCMSDDHD1" attached to the label, thought the device name may be different for you. Try one that has "192.168.1." as that'll be the most likely option.

Thanks. Next noob question: It asks for a user/password. What do I use and or where do I set it?

I don't know what the default password is, but if you type admin/admin in on the device for user/pass that works fine.
EDIT:
Code:
// In order to secure the device, the default password is a random number, not a static default
So you'll need to change it, unless you can read minds

OK. admin/admin works. Next nq: I get "Error opening directory:O". Is there a specific path to enter?

Ba-da-bing! We are in business.
this works great! does this work just over USB? I assumed that since I didnt see an SSID advertised that the webserver wasn't broadcasting over WiFi.
A few feature suggestions:
* Make it clearer in the device UI to use the last IP address. I had assumed I would use the SERIAL ON USB IP address
* When browsing files, show a detail view so that you can see date/time modfied, type (optional), size
* when in a subdirectory add an Up ellipsis (...) to more easily walk back up the directory tree.
* be able to filter a directory listing so that you can display just certain file types (ie *.exe)
* Be able to download files
I love it! Its handy to be able to get a file listing that you can copy so that you can capture file listings.
Scratch the suggestion to add downloading files, the filenames are of course URLs which enable http downloads
I found a bug. When you click on a file to download it the href seems to have an issue since the file extension is stripped. You can easily add it during the save but it would be easier to have that done by default. I need to check the syntax but for example for filebrowser.exe the html is:
FileBrowser.exe<br />
This was handy so that it was possible to download an EXE and see what certificate is used for signing.
It looks like if you press Back or Start the webserver shuts down or is tombstoned.
I wonder if anyone has come up with a way to keep an application from being killed.
If that was possible then the webserver could provide active control. In that case if it was running in the background a great feature to add would be a screen capture function.

[Solved] Sync with Mac

Hello there, I want to sync my music with my phone (Nokia Lumia 920), I searched the internet and saw that you need an application for this if you're on a Mac with atleast OS version 10.7, now here comes my problem: I don't have that version, the current version I have is 10.6.8 and is not compatible with the software you need and is provided by Microsoft. Does anybody here know if there is some other software (doesn't have to be official by Microsoft).
P.S. Upgrading my system to 10.7 is no option, since some of my software won't work anymore...
P.P.S There is a Mac version available for 10.6.8, but that is for Windows Phone 7.
You don't need special software at all. Unlike WP7 (which did need special stuff), WP8 just uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) to sync. This is a widely-supported protocol - there are at least a half-dozen Linux programs that provide it; I'm sure there are OS X ones - and you should be able to use lots of different options. On Windows, you can just use Explorer (Finder, on OS X) to browse the phone's media libraries and copy stuff on and off.
That is my problem, it doesn't show up in Finder at all, I also looked in Disk Utilities to see if the disk was "hidden", but it wasn't. You really need a program on Mac OS X if you're below version 10.7...
You need *a* program (Finder is a program...). You don't need a special one from MS. As I said, many Linux programs will happily speak MTP. You just need to find such a program for OS X. I'm sure they exist. Search for "MTP client on OS X" or some such thing online, you'll probably find something.
Oh, and stop using the products of a company that intentionally renders their systems obsolete after a few years. Apple sucks. Backward compatibility means I can run 16-year-old programs like Total Annihilation on my Win8 machine, if I want to.
The Solution
Seems like I found the solution:
From the Mac OS X desktop, hit Command+Shift+G and enter /System/Library/CoreServices/
Locate SystemVersion.plist and make a backup copy of it to the desktop
Open a terminal. (If you don't know how to find it, type terminal in spotlight, in the top right-hand corner)
Type in
sudo nano /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
Locate the keys ProductUserVisibleVersion and ProductVersion and change them from “10.6.8″ to “10.7.2″
Hit Ctrl+O then Enter to save the file (make sure you got the rights to edit in the folder!). Then Ctrl+x to exit nano.
Now launch the App Store and install Windows Phone but don't open it.
When the application has finished downloading, go back to the terminal and type in
sudo nano /Applications/Windows\ Phone.app/Contents/Info.plist
Find the field LSMinimumSystemVersion and change its string from "10.7" to "10.6.8"
Hit Ctrl+O then Enter to save the file. Then Ctrl+x to exit nano (don't close the terminal, you'll need it again later on).
Then type in
sudo nano /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
and change back the ProductUserVisibleVersion and ProductVersion and change them to “10.6.8″.
You can now try to open the application by double clicking on it the application folder, if it doesn't work, don't panic, it didn't on my computer either. One more step is needed :
Go to your Applications folder, right click on Windows Phone and then on Show Package Content. Then go to Contents > MacOS, there will be a file here, it is the application. If you open it, a terminal window will open as well as the application which works perfectly fine. Note that if you close Terminal, the application will close as well. Therefore, don't close Terminal.
The icon will keep its strikethrough but it will work.
I couldn't post the source, since I need 10 posts. It is from Reddit. Search "reddit windows phone mac" and it is the first one.
