Rooting you won't lose any data. To unroot you always can flash your firmware again using odin. :good:

No you don't if you don't do a factory reset, but to root you just need to flash a .zip using recovery, it's easy.

I rooted my s advance, unrooted and all ok.Thank you very much.

Why you wanna downgrade?
Anyway, before any downgrade process, be sure to wipe all data.
If you don't wipe data you will have problems with nfc firmware causing in a bootloop
Sent from my Xperia Z using XDA Premium 4 mobile app.

"C6903_14.1.G.1.534_NUT.ftf" I hope? You can't downgrade using a flashable zip, you have to do it using an .ftf file.

Now you have to backup your TA partition, after that you can safely unlock your bootloader.

Then its gone forever.
There is no need to unlock anyway if all you want is recovery.
But now you have unlocked you may as well just flash XZDR kernel and then flash SuperSU then the rom of your choice.

does it stay rooted?
OTA yes PCC and SEUS not!
OTA only patches the required files and PCC and SEUS rewrite the entire /system and thus removes root

my phone was rooted and had cwm recovery. The OTA failed twice . Then I unrooted the phone and did a wipe. After that, I was able to install lollipop

OTA will always fail when you're rooted, as signature checks will fail. You need to flash a pre-rooted 157 after wiping system and caches (not data).

Install a non-rooted, fresh copy of 157. Close Sony Updater tool(s).
Flash the 108 kernel using Flashtool. Close Flashtool.
Root using XperiaRoot. Close XperiaRoot.
Flash the 157 kernel using Flashtool. Close Flashtool.
Install XZDR Dual Recovery, and use TWRP from now on. CWM is old and should be killed with fire.
Send me $50 and a large pepperoni pizza.
Files are available here.
