Question about CDMA and GSM One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why is there such a huge difference between the Rom ability. I know it's a different network code but isn't the One able to run both anyways? Why are some roms GSM only. When I had my Photon nothing like that mattered.

Bump because seriously curious

As far as I know, almost all ones are the same, except for the sprint model. I believe the partitions are different on the sprint model, and flashing a ROM designed for anything else will not work.

Does anyone know if there will be a physical difference in the Tmo, Sprint, and AT&T version? What about hardware? If all 3 phones were same, and there needed only one development thread, I'd be thrilled. Probably pipe dream

Yes there is some hardware differences, the most prominent one being CDMA vs GSM. You definitely don't want to flash gsm fw on a cdma phone and vice versa.

[Q] interchangable?

Hey guys just a question regarding the roms for the one, I see for some reason development in the sprint one section is rather slow compared to the other versions. I see when I go to the general HTC one forum the roms say "supports all HTC one models" does this mean I can use on my sprint one? I would assume not because of radio issues?
Thanks in advance for the replys.
No. Only flash roms designed for the Sprint One. Give development time... It will pick up.

Quality over quantity. We have root, and a few ROMs. The Evo3D took forever to break in and just exploded after a bit.

really are ones were just released they had there's a month or more longer

[Q] Why is Sprint so hard to make ROM's for?

I know it's CDMA and everything, but does that make a difference? And If it makes a huge difference and I'm just being stupid, please explain why? I want to flash ARHD to my One, but I can't since it doesn't work on Sprint!
It's not hard to make a rom for it but because of the hardware differences, it's impossible to make a cross flashable Rom for cdma and gsm.

Even for the One, which is the same across all carriers?

The One is the across all carriers, EXCEPT SPRINT. CDMA and GSM are completely different pieces of hardware, so one ROM cannot address both chips.

I was actually happy to leave CDMA carrier like Sprint and start using GSM phone which are more widely used and have far more development due to the fact they have the same hardware as their international counterparts

On of top that Sprint has such inconsistent and spotty service in many parts of the country. Some parts of the country Sprint compatible networks are all but absent.
There's a reason why Sprint subscribers can get such great price and package deals for their phones & data plans... Becausr they cannot hold onto customers who get lured in by the great deals, then as soon as they leave their comfortable metropolitan areas, they have zero signal in some random small town, where the average AT&T and Verizon customers have at least some phone service.

Using Aroma it is quite easy to do this. There were many ROMs in the EVO 3D forums that had one flash-able zip for GSM and CDMA phones. You just selected in Aroma. I believe Trick Droid for the One in the International forum is also like this.
And it is not harder to make ROMs for the Sprint version. It is just a matter of DEVs. There are more developers for the GSM version and some are more actively developing and therefore there are more ROMs available. Also they have a 4.2.2 kernel as is for their phone and there has not been one released for the Sprint version. Once there is a 4.2.2 Kernel available for the Sprint variant you'll see lots of movement.

Ahh, gotcha! Thanks!
Now I just get to sit here and wait for ARHD to work on Sprint. Maybe when 4.2.2 is released officially on Sprint, right? So then they can get the kernel?

I think once we get a SPrint 4.2.2 kernel/firmware there will be more crossover, mostly the difference in the the variants is at the kernel level.

I agree; I think people are waiting too. It's hard to invest a lot of time into developing a ROM when we'll get a 4.2 release "soon". Sometimes one can just diff to see what's different and incorporate the new features into an already made custom ROM (or vice versa), but it's easier and more stable to start over.

Now question. Since we have gsm capabilities. If we unlocked our devices in 90 days would we not be able to flash gsm roms?

Short answer is no.
I believe the Sprint phones are Hardware rev 0004 which means they would need a kernel for our specific hardware. It's mostly a kernel thing.

Will a Unlocked AT&T HTC ONE work on T-Mobile's LTE/Hspa+?

I was wondering this because I have somebody that wants to trade there ONE for my Nexus 4. Is there a way to make this the Google edition by flashing a rom? Also can't I just flash T-mobile radio's to get it to work on T-mobile if it doesn't?

There are plenty of threads that go into in depth discussion about this. Search for them. As of now, the answer seems to be no. You can get LTE and 3g but not HSPA+ I believe? I'm not sure of the details...

FML I finally find somebody willing to trade straight across and it's not worth it x.x
If it is worth your while to trade I would look into the possibility of flashing compatible radios, which in many cases is quite feasible. On another note the HTC One is an excellent device which only took minutes for me to transform into a Google Play Edition on not only an AT&T GSM variant, but a Sprint CDMA version as well. These ROMS even allow OTA updates, so as I said before if its worth your while there should be a solution. Please come to me with any issues or concerns you may have, I have been working with the HTC One for some time now and have become quite familiar with the device.
