The setup was fine, connected to my network, played Netflix and Youtube from various devices (phone, laptop, computer) no problems! (Interested in the Plex thread and others on here for locally stored video.. )
What is happening is very strange, however. I have a TV with multiple inputs (typical these days, right?) but after I've been 'casting' to the Chromecast, it takes several tries to change away from that input to another input (my Xbox, or HD antenna).
ALSO - the TV powers itself ON after a while! WHY IS THAT? I left and came back home and thought I had left the TV on - which is not like me at all! And later that night it turned on AGAIN after I went to bed. I unplugged the Chromecast just to get it to stop, but ideally, I would want to leave it plugged in all the time.
What is making the TV turn on?
Will moving my TV input to anything other than the Chromecast port stop it?
Is there a soft power-off option for the Chromecast device?

Sounds like you're having issues with their chrome cast's HDMI CEC. It can be used to automatically change inputs to the one the chrome cast is using and even turn on tvs.
You could disable HDMI control for your TV and it would prevent the issues from occurring.
Every manufacturer has a different name for their HDMI Control feature.

I would suggest to just unplug the USB when not in use if your TV is turning on, I know my brothers TV its a westinghouse turns on anytime something connected to it turns on like the xbox or ps3 or laptop

It's a Toshiba flat-screen, don't know the model. I'll put more detail up tonight when I can look. :silly: I also need to try having it off the Chromecast and starting a session and seeing if it draws the TV to that input. THAT would be nice, but the auto-powering on is a bad bug in my opinion.
My TV turns on automatically when just about anything powers on before the tv is on. Say I turn my ps3 on 1st, it will turn it on. Or plug a USB Flash drive in, turns it on. But, once in the HDMI spot, I can shut it down and it stays off. Very strange.

I have read where this particular TV suffers from this issue with other devices, but I wish there was a way to turn it off from the Chromecast end.
Right now, my solution is to go and unplug the Chromecast when I am not using it...hardly an elegant solution.
Have you check the manufacture website of your TV. I know some TV within the last few years, if it have a USB hook up, you can typically update the TV Firmware it may solve your problem. Just a shot in the dark. Also Chromecast is also getting an update.

I have seen where some people have tried the update and it made no difference, but I will definitely try this when I get home tonight.
Find your HDMI-CEC options (whatever Toshiba calls it) and turn on HDMI-CEC but turn off Auto power. That will allow HDMI-CEC to switch to the right input but will not allow the HDMI-CEC to auto power the TV.
I have the exact same problem with a Toshiba 46G300U1 so let me know if you find a solution. It seems like a bunch of the Toshiba's all have this problem and I doubt Toshiba is going to fix it. I've tried various different kinds of options (connecting the Chromecast through a cable, a HDMI switch etc.). As long as the Chromecast is switched on and connected to the TV it always turns on automatically. Obviously disabling HDMI-CEC doesnt seem to help. I suspect there is a bug in the Toshiba that still keeps acting on HDMI-CEC signalsI am planning to file a support case with Chromecast as they are more likely to fix the problem (maybe an option to disable CEC on the Chromecast) than Toshiba. But since that is unlikely I am thinking maybe I can try a cable that doesnt properly support HDMI-CEC. It seems CEC is a separate wire and there are lots of people online complaining about cables that don't support CEC.
Try not powering your device via USB from the TV. (If you are) My LG TV seems to have issues with CEC from devices that get power from it via USB. Does weird stuff like this
So I tried updating the firmware on my TV...they said just put the new firmware on a USB stick, then plug the stick into the TV and it will automatically prompt you to start the install. Well, it didn't. I tried 2 different USB sticks with no success.
My "fix" was to just power the Chromecast WITH the USB port on the TV. That way the Chromecast is off when the TV is, so it won't try to turn it back on.
Great idea. I am connecting my USB cable to the TV's USB port for now. I might try connecting the Chromecast via my audio receiver later on. FWIW the firmware update did nothing to solve the issue on my TV.
I don't want to disable CEC on my TV, because I'd still like to have the CEC capability to turn on/off my home theatre automatically along with the TV. I can use USB power from the TV to power my Chromecast, but once the TV is on, my home theatre mutes automatically because it gives up control of CEC to chromecast. It's an unfortunate software decision made by Sony, the maker of my home theatre. I want the home theatre speakers to stay active, but Sony has programmed it to mute when another device on the same HDMI bus takes CEC control.
If you don't want your Chromecast to be a CEC-control device, meaning you don't want it turning your set on at all, or you don't want it overriding other CEC devices, just order lindy-usa.com part number 711110-1, which is a HDMI CEC Less Adapter, Female to Male, and put it inline with your Chromecast. It disables the CEC sense line from your Chromecast to your TV. Problem solved. Neall
I received my chrome cast from Google. After watching You Tube via my Note 2 on my HD tv, I try to switch to regular TV on HDMI 4. It would not switch to regular tv. So I had to reset the FIOS receiver which brought the tv back. This happened again today. I have a Sony HD tv.
Also, how do i turn off chrome cast.
Have you tried turning off CEC? This is what allows HDMI devices to tell your TV to turn to the right input (if you on standard TV on HDMI 1 and chromecast is HDMI 3 it'll automatically change input when you cast content)

Security - In terms of security both products are flawed:
*Chromecast acts as open AP if is not connected to, in case of rooted it allows to steal your ESSID and PASSPHRASE
*EZCast(Measy A2W in my case but it's just EZCast standard)
EZCast is by default protected by WPA2 and 8 digit passphrase which is fair.
Dongle acts as ap/wireless router in order to use it. Client app connects to EZCast wifi and EZCast dongle is connected to main wifi network.
1. EZCast Dongle has for some unknown reason WPS enabled.
WPS is broken/hackable via WASH/REAVER since December 2011. Fixed in firmware 13886 (Aug 2015)
2. EZCast has always the same ESSID(should be an option to change it), also 32 characters limitation.(fixed in 2015)
3. It's not possible to hide ESSID broadcasting.
4. Passphrase to it's network is always limited to 8 ASCII characters, which is too short, should beup to 63ascii/64hex characters.
5. AP that EZCast can connect to has to be about ESSID 16 character long/16 characters long, should be ESSID 32 chanracter long and passphrase 63 ascii or if 64 hex character long.
6. After dongle factory reset initial WPA2 passphrase is always the same(returns to stock value), should be randomized.
7. I find it strange that iezvu .com collects unique ESSID, email, IP, while default WPA2 password is the same after each dongle reset.
Probably there is a correlation between ESSID, MAC and passphrase - guys from RouterKeygen are good at finding this....

For mirroring desktop/expanding desktop EZCast is superior to Chromecast Stream can be about 30 - 35Mbps.
You may stream up to 4 desktops at once to one screen1/ split 2/split 4, I have tried only 2 at time.

If it comes to playing movies (nearly all formats supported) with EZCast Windows it runs fluid in Video Mode, but without subtitles.
It's also possible to watch movie with subtitles with screen mirroring but it's not so enjoyable - slightly tearing.

I have the measy a2w. miracast works well with android 4.2.
But for my 3 phones/phablets with mtk6577 chip and running android 4.1. It was difficult. The EZcast app wouldn't install. I figured out how finally. I had to add the .apk app file to /data/app manually and set permission to rw-r--r--, then reboot.
The manual is a joke, as always. It doesn't even talk about miracast.
settings > display > wireless display > search device > connect
That's all it takes for android 4.2.

I'm half deaf and I need subs to understand what they are saying.
If they can't fix this, then it's not worth to buy it.

If they want to sell a product, then they have to take the time to show it so people can say WOW...worth the money.

In full screen mirroring its possible to watch with subs, its just not too enjoyable while dynamical motion, its much better than chromecast full screen or tab mirroring.

AH I forgot about the mirroring!
But the quality won't be that good if you have to mirror it instead of streaming the video.
The other thing with EZcast is that it doesn't take over all the work like Chromecast does.
So your phone is still consuming power to run the media? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are probably right(i have not tested it with android.) You may ask on their (iezvu) forum. I bought Measy A2W (EZCast dongle) because of decent screen mirroring and flawless movie playback with any format(on PC i did not succeeded to use subs) , things that Chromecast is totally missing.

I have the Ezcast M2 and it works flawless if I'm near my wifi router, but if I'm downstair, there are massive lags when viewing in 720p and higher. It kept buffering. I believe Miracast acts more like bluetooth which is based on distance I wish there's a way to improve this. If anyone have any idea how to fix this lag, please chime in.

Be sure it's updated to 11391, place it not too close to the wall/floor, you may use hdmi extender for tests.
Generally this device should be placed in line of sight not another floor.
It depends on how good is wifi adapter is used. If its not in 802.11n(150Mbps+) or newer such as 802.11ac card there is high chance for lags.
Cast movies via Video mode not mirror screen mode.

I have my ezcast plugged into my Yamaha receiver to have surround sound, and the router I have is a linksys e2500 dual band. I have most stuff connected through the 5ghz channel, leaving the 2ghz dedicated to guest and ezcast or any other devices. Both bands are on wireless N only, and it's not pointed toward the wall or on the floor, it's sitting on top of my tv stand. My router is fine I have no issues with the roku 2 xs, just the ezcast is always buffering on 720p when streaming from youtube, and 1080p as well. I have the latest firmware and the app update as well. Any more suggestion?

Not much(I doubt it will help):
Update routers firmware.
Experiment with router position - should not be too close to wall/floor or other high density objects.
Be sure you use 40MHz channel width and experiment with different wireless channels.
cheap signal booster example, it'll be hard to direct it between floors

It's working so far, but I noticed my ios youtube native app no longer can airplay to the ezcast! It keep telling me playback error, however if i use the "web" function of the ezcast app it works flawless.
a quick update on this... I tried the ezmirror using my laptop and it plays 720p and 1080p perfect! I don't know why when playing over tablet or iphone it lags so much! Any experts in here know how to sniff out the protocol it uses?

I have iphone 5 but running ios 7. I am on windows lapto so I can't use that wireshark! Also I have not forget to say thank u to u, just we have not finished solving this issue that is all eheeeh don't misunderstand! I greatly appreciate all anyone does to help troubleshoot!

Two answers at once:
1. Technologies used on iOS - Ezair(Airplay)
2. There are known issues on iOS 7 with no workaround.

Thank u! I did see their forums but it looks very inactive thats why I didnt bother posting there! Odd how it worked before on native youtube app but not anymore! It's like random.... Also I wish they have a stronger antenna bc I cannot connect to any other channel besides auto! It also took me awhile to connect to the tv via my laptop, but it connected fine now. Major lags within the windows OS when using ezmirror but youtube stream and flash contents are on sync with the laptop!

I have the Tronsmart T1000 and have been using it for a couple of months to stream from both Android and Windows.
I have used both Miracast with Android and also using the devices built in WiFi network to stream from Android and Windows. Miracast is a little laggy and buggy but typically works fine. Sometimes with larger video files there is a .5 second sync issue with audio and video but it is not present at all times.
The Tronsmart (and devices like it) really do fill a gap that the CC doesn't. If anyone has any questions about the Tronsmart T1000 let me know!

I'm waiting for my Measy A2W right now. Can you tell me how is the situation with multichannel sound? I see on my Galaxy Note 2 (Android 4.3) that there is option for surround sound on HDMI output, but I guess it's just some kind of Virtual Surround. At least I didn't get any DTS or Dolby Digitial signs on my amplituner (I was using mhl adapter). Would I be able to get proper 5.1 surround sound out of Measy A2W with GN2 or will I have to stick to Dolby Prologic? I've heard that Chromecast can output multichannel sound so maybe this baby can do this too?
I'm trying to cast my (Tab S2 9.7) screen to my Chromecast (v2). If I use the Google Cast app it sees my Chromecast, I choose the "cast screen/audio" option then get a warning that the device is not optimised, and when I continue nothing gets cast to the Chromecast - the tablet shows a "connecting to Chromecast" message which never goes away, and the TV/Chromecast screen remains blank.
If I use the Quick Connect option on the tablet it doesn't detect the Chromecast on the list of devices.
I'm running Android 6.0.1 (stock, unrooted).
Any ideas how I can cast to my Chromecast??
Google Cast works on my T810 using stock 6.0.1, so you must have a hardware problem. I'm assuming your connection to your router is OK from both your tablet and the Chromecast device because Google Cast sees the device. But to be sure, I'd re-install the Chromecast device on your network. If that fails, do you have another tablet you can use to test it? Or have you tried another HDMI port on the TV/Monitor? Or another TV? All I can say for sure is this isn't a general problem with MM on the T810 because I use it quite often.

Mine's an SM-T815. Anyone manage to Chromecast from one of these?
The Chromecast/TV setup seems fine - can cast from my phone no problem. Are you casting using the Google Cast app or the "Quick Connect" Samsung utility?

Samsung's Quick Connect connects via Bluetooth to transfer files. Google Cast connects via your wifi network and that's what I use. There is also a way to cast without a Chromecast device but I think that only works with Samsung Smart TVs.

Eh? According to this, Quick Connect uses Bluetooth OR Wifi to connect to devices including Chromecasts:

Maybe it's supposed to, but I just tried it and the only "nearby device" it found was "Samsung Cloud Print". Even with Bluetooth turned on. It doesn't even see my Desktop Computer, though it does show in my Bluetooth connections.
edit: I just had a chat with Samsung support and they are blaming Quick Connect not working on Google. Always the other guys fault.

Mine can see my Samsung Smart TV and Onkyo A/V receiver (both wifi-only devices), but not the Chromecast :0(

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your Chromecast device is an older model?

Interesting....I tried casting to an old Chromecast v1 (in another room) and it worked fine. Then I tried casting to the Chromecast v2 again, and this time it worked. I hadn't tampered with the Chromecast v2 at all. So now it's working, but I have no idea why it wasn't working before....?????
Hi Guys, sorry to butt in here, but you may be able to help me with my new Tab S2 9.7 64G Lolipop 6.0 (I think its 6.0) that I got for my 70yo mum to play movies on her Sony 46" non smart tv with either the Google Chrome Cast or MiraCast. I purchased a few micro USB to HDMI MTH?2.0 adaptors, and non of them show an image on her screen. I don't want to go and buy the Samsung adaptor as its easier to change movies play and pause using VLC media player while sitting on the couch for her. Can any of you please tell me the easiest dongle I can buy to simply play movies wireless to the HDMI dongle in the back of the tv? Happy to go Google Chrome, but which model do I need? Thanks in advance guys!

The problem with HDMI/MHL dongles is that they are difficult to connect. Most of them will work if you have the patience to keep trying until the finally connect. But then, you are forced to leave your tablet within a few feet of the TV. I MUCH prefer a Chromecast dongle that plugs into the TV and uses your wifi to connect. Most TVs also have a USB port that you can use to power the dongle rather than having to plug a separate power adapter into a wall plug. Here is one on eBay that is only $17 whereas a "Google" branded one will cost about $40. You can even get cheaper ones if you are willing to ship from China.
The current software to mirror the tablet on the TV is "Google Home". But be warned, the picture is not "widescreen" or HD.

Absolutely go for Chromecast, the easiest and most reliable way to cast from any Android device to the TV.
Do NOT buy a cheap chromecast copy from Ebay, they do not work properly.
Pretty much everywhere is selling CHROMECAST very cheap at the moment in Black Friday promo deals.
Get it now while you can as the price will go back to normal soon!

Chromcast sounds like the go! Im in Perth - Western Australia.
If I update the VLC media player App will it work ok with Chromecast?
