Setup issue. Help needed. - Google Chromecast

So I plug my chromecast in and for about 15 seconds it acts like it is trying to setup up then my screen goes black. The screen then changes to "no signal".
The tv is a brand new 55' led vizeo smart tv.
Any help is appreciated.
This is what google said but did not help.
"If you saw your Chromecast's loading screen ("Chromecast" with a spinning Chrome logo) but the home screen is black, you could be experiencing an HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with your TV. This issue is easily fixed by rebooting your TV. Turn your TV off, unplug it, turn everything back on and try again."

What are you using for power? Maybe the tv's usb is shutting down?

I've tried both USB and wall adapter for power.

Might be a resolution thing. Can you force 1080p on that HDMI port?

Perhaps it is a stuck reset button. Try pressing that a few times to release it.

Turns out I had a defective Chromecast. :/

Help, Won't reset.

Was working yesterday on another network and tv (Won't have access to that setup in a long time). Today it just stays on "Starting your chromecast..." or the exclamation mark. Tried to reset and it does not, light doesn't even blink.
Also at first today tried to use it on the receiver, but since it didn't work connected it directly to the tv and the same thing. I have to be doing a n00b mistake. I'm using the usb to dongle power, at first I used the receivers usb port.

i did hard resets on one of mine 2-3 times at you sometimes need to hold the button for close to 30 seconds. From the way you describe it the device seems like it wasnt completely setup.
You can do a hard reset from the drop down menu on chrome browser from your computer.

It was working before, tried up to 45 secs no go. How long does it take to reset? I think this thing is fried.

That would work if the device was detected but its not.

you honestly wont even need it plugged into the tv, just powered. You will know its reset as the light starts to blink. I doubt its fried or you wouldnt get anything on the tv at all.
Here is one. Mine displays a pink status light and wont display on ANY TV I plug it into. I press and hold the reset button and nothing happens.
Any ideas?

Try a different input? maybe its a sign of it malfunctioning. You may want to contact their support as I havent heard of this before.

I'll try that today, I know its not fried just in a boot loop. At least the other one I have is working.
Well it's still in the boot loop, the reset does not work (no flashing light) even when not on the hdmi port. I have an otg cable on the way so, I'll have to wait until someone makes some custom rom or something or send it back for a replacement since I have no idea what happen to it.

Mine gets stuck when trying to do a factory reset, and a couple of colored dots appear on the right-ish side of the screen. That image stays no matter how long I hold the button (tried for over 2 minutes more than once) It will boot into the regular splash screen if I don't hold the button, but like I said it won't reset...ideas?
Our chromecast up at work bit the dust in the same way you described. Light pink status light and it won't reset or connect.

AFAIK that's a sign of the original (vulnerable) bootloader trying to load from USB.
Let the Chromecast boot normally (don't hold down the button while powering it up) first, then press and hold the button until the light turns red.
The colored dots mean something went wrong in the bootloader. It's very unlikely that you'll be able to recover from that unless you have a rooted device with a vulnerable bootloader (and even then you'd probably need to open it up and solder up the UART). The "Starting your Chromecast" screen means it successfully booted the kernel but content_shell (the main process) isn't starting for some reason. I'm fairly sure that content_shell is what handles the reset button press, so again, if you don't have a vulnerable bootloader, you're probably out of luck and your best option is to try to exchange the unit for a new one.

[Q] Chromecast LED status definition

I picked up a Chromecast a couple of days ago but am having trouble with it and I can't find a decoder ring for the status LED. I don't see a Q&A form for this device or the info in the FAQ so I'm posting here.
Here's my issue: After initial setup/connection I was able to cast youtube/music/pandora just fine. I noticed that the status LED during that time was solid white. My assumption is that this is the status which the device should always be in. However in the morning (same thing 2 days now) I no longer get the cast icon in any of the apps, even though the chromecast app says that the device is "ready to cast". At this point the LED is blinking white. Does this mean disconnected from router? Unplugging/plugging the unit back in from power/HDMI fixed the problem but it just reoccurs the next morning. Any thoughts?
I'm using a Linksys E3000 router running Tomato 1.28 I believe. AP isolation is OFF.
Anyone have a full breakdown of the LED meanings?
Ps: i forgot to add that for a successful reconnect I have to unplug both power and HDMI, plug power back in until the LED goes solid white, and then plug HDMI back in. Just cycling power does not work.

Don't trust the status given in the Chromecast app - it has a tendency to be incorrect with respect to Ready to Cast, Needs Setup, etc. Always go by what Chromecast shows you on the TV screen.
Blinking white - Chromecast is not connected to a WiFi access point (this is also the state it goes into when it needs to be set up)
Solid white - Chromecast is connected to a WiFi access point (it may or may not have access to the Internet)
Solid Red - booting, or settings reset triggered (by holding button down)
As for your problem...
The first thing I'd try is using the HDMI Extender - that will reduce the amount of WiFi signal interference/blockage you get from your TV.
Check your router's (advanced) settings for any power-saving features. Some APs reduce signal strength when there's little/no WiFi activity, so it might be dropping the signal enough that Chromecast loses its connection.
Not sure why you have to unplug HDMI - you shouldn't, unless your TV is providing enough (or more than zero) power on the HDMI port to keep Chromecast alive or semi-alive. Does it show any light or attempt to light when you plug it into HDMI but don't have the power connected?
I already have the extender on. No power through the HDMI but it won't reconnect unless I unplug it. I have it powered externally and not via TV's USB port. Don't remember any energy saving features on the router but I'll take another look.
I get excellent reception during streaming so I don't know why it's disconnecting...

Well, I'm not sure what happened (maybe there was a firmware update?) but Chromecast has remained connected and stable for the last 3 days.... I didn't touch anything... go figure.

If it makes you feel any better, either we're both crazy, or both not.
The same thing happened to me. WiFi simply would not stay connected with 12072, everything was fine on 13300. It would complain on first boot, then would reconnect in a few minutes and stay connected.
Yeah, seems like whatever happened fixed both problems because it now even reconnects after a power cycle (previously I had to disconnect HDMI also for it to reconnect). Sweet!
I got a connection issue similar to this then other day and had to run the installation app again to get it to reconnect.

Couple of months old this thread, but had the same issue, watch a movie through Avia yesterday, came home from work today and it was blinking white, reboot didnt help, unplug and reboot didnt help. Had to reset with the button pressed for 20-25 seconds.. works as it should now tho.. :cyclops:
I've done a few things recently that seemed to have all but stopped my Chromecast connection issues.
1. Changed my phones IP from DHCP to Static. You do this by selecting you're Wifi access point and holding down on it until Modify Network comes up, select it, then check the Show advanced options box, then you'll seee the option to change the IP settings from DHCP to Static.
2. Go into Avia's setting and make sure the Lock Wifi on box is checked. Be warned though this does cain you're phones power so switche it off when you've finished casting.

#2 is the main one here, though your phone might have been hopping between IP leases if you router's DHCP lease time is set very low. Usually it's ~8 days which should more than cover your phone disconnecting WiFi and reconnecting a few times, unless you're binge-watching multiple seasons of something.
Hey guys I am having a similar issue with my chromecast and I am unable to tell if my chromecast is bricked or is it some software issue, I was able to cast all my apps in the morning but when I reconnected my chromecast back with the tv it showed me an error with yellow exclamation mark but after that when i reconnected my chromecast nothing comes on the tv and there is a constant red and white led blinking on my chromecast since.
If anybody could help me out with it I would be grateful.

[SOLVED ]Chromecast keeps factory resetting when plugged into TV

Got my chromecast day and tried setting it up, first few attempts failed. When I plugged the CC into my TV, the screen shows the 'home' or default CC setup screen then it goes blank.
Eventually I managed to set everything up without plugging the CC in, it updated too. Then I tried casting from youtube, it found the device no problem but when I plug it into the TV, after about 10 seconds or so of casting the device 'resets' and then the CC logo appears and it says 'restoring factory settings'
Bought this brand new off eBay, unboxed. Seems bust to me. Anyone else had these issues? I've tried different HDMI ports and using the USB/AC power. The TV is a Samsung.
TLDR It works fine until I actually plug it into the TV, then it resets itself and I have to do the setup over.

What is the first 4 of your serial?
Some units have buttons that tend to get stuck in the pushed position, which will cause a settings reset like you describe.
You can...
get a piece of weak tape (scotch tape, painter's tape or light duty masking tape) and stick it to the button, then pull it off
push on your reset button firmly (but not crushingly), wiggle slightly, then release to see if it pops back up
flick the button with your fingernail
That's done it! The button didn't seem depressed but I pressed it a few times to see if it 'clicked' back out, didn't seem to make any difference, but when I tried the setup again it ran smoothly!
thanks dude!
:good: Funny little buttons...
Wow didn't know someone posted this same problem. I've had my CC for a bit....and it frkn did that all the time. I got fed up with it and haven't used it .....I will try above suggestions. ...thanks....I'll let you know if it worked for me..If you want to know lol

Sounds like you need a reset as it does not seem to be booting properly....
What screen do you see on the CCast?
Are you powering the chromecast from the tv's USB? It's possible the voltage supplied from the TV is not compatible with the chromecast. Try the wall adapter that came with it.

Try the manual setup from a browser on a device that has 2.4 GHz WiFi capability.

Try gently wiggling the button back and forth - some units have had "sticky" buttons, though in your case it sounds like maybe it's misaligned and not pushing the actual button.
You could try flicking the button with your finger too, but if you really can't reset it, probably best to get a replacement.
Try logging in with the setup app and doing a Factory Reset...
After I did a factory reset of my Chromecast I had issues setting it up with my mobile device (nexus 6). Turned out that I had privacy guard on and it was blocking location from the Chromecast app. Once I allowed that it setup just fine. Hope that helps anyone out there.

Boot powered off device directly into Fastboot mode

Hello,
I'm attempting to use hardware key combinations in order to boot into Fastboot mode, e.g.. Power + volume up & power + volume down.
The phone is unresponsive. But the phone boots normally when only pressing the power button.
I've read the tutorial about launching Fastboot through a PC connection here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/help/howv-to-phone-fastboot-mode-screenshots-t3966727
But in this case, that wont be an option since my display doesn't work, hence there's no way to accept ABD-permissions when prompted on the phones' screen.
I was initially trying to pull all the data from the phone through ADB. When I realized I hadn't accepted my PC's ADB permissions on my ROG Phone, I had to rethink..
So I thought I could plant my PC's RSA-key (for accepting ADB) in my ROG Phones storage through Fastboot, just pushing the file.
I was dumbfounded when I discovered my ROG Phone 2 to be the only android device I've owned, which seemingly doesn't allow for a raw manual boot into Fastboot? CAN THIS REALLY BE THE CASE?
Any input would be highly appreciated
EDIT: I've ordered an USB-c hub for inputting kb+m & HDMI, which should allow me to accept the permissions. Although some of the data I'm trying to reach are time sensitive, any second rescued would be of value!
Similar problem
Hello,
I have a similar problem. My display is broken but the phone seems to still work. I bought an USB-C hub, but when I connect the phone to the TV (via the side USB port) it only shows a white "Asus rog" logo for a few seconds and then vanishes. When I click the mouse the logo reappears again for a few seconds.
Did it work with the hub you got? Do you have an other idea? I need the data that ist sadly still on the phone.
Thank you for your help.

I did work with the usb-c hub. Never saw any white ASUS ROG logo, I'm not sure what's going on with your phone. Also I later replaced the screen third-party, since ASUS charges a lot of money and insists on factory reseting the phone. So you could always do the latter if nothing else works. Send me a PM if you want the display I got.
