What is the difference between 2 Roms??
Sent by the force with my S3 Mini
In my you've (in comparition to Oliver's CM):
- new Wifi driver, instead of buggy Samsung's one
- new BT driver, instead of buggy Samsung's one
- working Wifi Tether
- real flicker fix
I think I listed most important differences.

I have 8.9 7300 KI3 KHC KI4.
Kies says there is not new rom but looks everybody have received.
The screen of Kies about firmware update shows no address where to download hipothetical update, is it the same for you? Tools, adjusts for the firmware update, configuration of the automatic firmware update.
Maybe my Kies has bad configuration, I have read post about troubles with it.
What says yours, if you have received the update?
Thanks.
i dont have any update! still on 3.1.
mine is neverlocked, and not branded. i know that only some operators recived the update.
I think the updates are region based and so it depends on the version installed on your tablet; my Hong Kong tablet received the update to 3.2 in the last week.
do you have that auto rotation lag?
There does appear to be a delay when rotating but I stopped animations at the same time so I don't have a direct comparison; I'll switch on the animations to double check. Otherwise I don't see any difference in performance in other areas.
I have update. Zero problems.

Can you please post more information about the update you received?
Build number?
Baseband version?
Also look in the following files and post what is there (no root required, only file explorer):
system\CSCVersion.txt: ?
system\csc\customer.xml only one line: <SalesCode>?</SalesCode>
Does the update fix the ****ty looking dirty white of the display, (compared to the 10.1)? Does it fix the fact that I can connect to my cellphone hot-spot, but not actually use it- no data transferred? My 10.1 works fine. Thinking of returning the 8.9 for these reasons, but I love the size and want to make this right. Thanks
RE: rotation lag - after more testing this does appear to be worse with 3.2.

I don't have any issues with the display; do you have 1 of the 2 settings to adjust brightness switched on?
I've also not has any issues tethering (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) to a mobile phone; is the connection set to share on your phone? Have you tried using bluetooth?

Interesting.... I have Brightness at full power and Auto Brightness turned off, and no Power Saving going on. Is there anything else?
I'm using Wi-Fi tethering, not BT. Like I said, I'm able to tether from my Tab 10.1. I'm pretty knowledgeable about this stuff, so all the obvious is out. I went to BB and tried their demo unit and had the same issue with the white being "dirty" - it's not a major thing - until you compare it to the 10.1, which is light-years cleaner and clearer and brighter. I thought I did check the tethering from the 8.9 at BB and that it worked, but I don't remember.
This thing is going back unless I can figure these two things out. I hate to do it. I really hope the bright white-ness can be adjusted. Also, are you on 3.2? That could be why your tethering works and mine doesn't...

While you called the display of the 8.9 dirty, I find the 10.1 display overly bluish and while it may attract the eyes somewhat it is far from being the correct color. If you have a calibrated image, you will see that the 10.1 tends to be very vivid but gears towards blue. I find that the 8.9 much more pleasing to the eyes.
I have no problem tethering to my HTC hotspots at all though.

I tend to disagree - I like the blue-ish cast, as you call it. On mine it seems more pure white and makes the colors pop. I tried the Movie mode on my 10.1 and got a similar look as the 8.9 OOTB. I haven't tried any other Mode on the 8.9, as I don't have it handy right now, (but dying to get to it to try it). I really hope changing its mode makes the whites brighter - or blue-r, if you like.
I put the same picture on both screens side by side, and trust me, the 10.1 is MUCH better looking. I don't like the yellow-ish cast of the 8.9 OOTB, (out of the box).
Thanks for your reply. Good to know that HTC tethering is working. I assume you are rooted and using something like Open Garden, right... (what are you using, if not?).

The newer design diplays that they started using in October are much truer in color and also have better contrast. The Wi-Fi Tab I got in August had a blueish cast while the 3G I got last month doesn't.
Tethering (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) issues
I have 3G working fine with my P7300, however when I start native tethering wifi, my S3 phone connected, but not able to reach internet.
Anyone know how to fix it ?
months ago received update to 3.2 HC

Our Archos-Worker Courville writes there:
For the fritzbox and speedsport owners (Atheros based AP): we are working on the issue with our Wi-Fi chipset provider, we have over the air captures of the issue. Please stay tuned.
Good Evening.

dammit! wish my tablet was working I wanna see if wifi is working now!
Please Delete.
downloading....
Good news! I was having freeze problems with the first ICS update, I installed that... and all gone! Now I have a really nice tablet (only that 512Mb )
Thanks for the info!
Does update increase stability and reduce freezes, resets?
I installed the original version (4.0.4) and went over all the hurdles, reformat, install, slim down app library, turn off wifi, root and install memory management programs etc, with minimal success. The tablet was still not usably stable. Some would run for awhile ok but web browsing did not work at all. Even pdf reading caused soft reboots in different apps.
I downgraded to 3.2.80 and everything works fine again.
Does this version 4.0.5 fix those problems or is it still much less stable than honeycomb?
I am growing tired of all this upgrading and downgrading.
Thanks
Yes !
Doublepost because internet connection timeout
Please delete it
Thanks
Yes !
Yes -
But i think you must test it on your own network and router and such stuff.
For me:
on 4.0.4 wifi had massive problems with my o2 surfstation,
but now with 4.0.5 all problems gone.
For me its the best firmware.
Greeting
P.S you can test it unrooted and if its good then root it.
You can take Surdu_Petrus rooted firmware therefore, or his new custom rom which is based on original archos firmware 4.0.5 and which has lots of improvements.

Still unstable
The whole 4.0.5 is still unstable for me. My router is an airport express but even with others (no idea who makes them) it is problematic. A weak signal seems to cause connects and disconnects which leads to many programs force closing (Amazon Kindle, Files, Browser, ...)
Taking the microsd out makes it quite a bit better but the card had no problems in 3.2.80
So maybe it would be stable without wifi/sd/many apps, but that's kind of the reason I got a tablet in the first place
does lg p970 has weak GPS receiver

This is a common issue... you can try optimizing it with Pimp My ROM or various scripts. Read through the Optimus Black Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting thread and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
The GPS receiver in OB is probably not the best on the market, hovewer it is not as bad as you probably think. In my opinion its weakness is a result of bad software, as some tweaks improve GPS functionality. My OB (on IZS) can fix in less then 30 sec., sometimes even inside the building (close to a window).
Hey guys,
After much research it looks like we might never get an update to JellyBean. I'm thinking about going with one of the custom roms, but have a few questions.
- What are the drawbacks? I see that most people mention losing WIFI Calling and TouchWiz.
- Since I only have 100 minutes, I use talkatone (w/ google voice) for free calls using wifi/data... will losing the wifi calling feature effect this?
- Does losing TouchWiz mean losing support for some of the Note's features (especially with regards to s-pen related features)?
Talkatone and WiFi calling are independent of each other. You can use talkatone.
The s-pen functionality is still there and it works fine. What you lose are the samsung s-pen apps such as s-memo and s-note. There are suitable replacement apps available in the play store. Stylus gestures are only in the ROMs released since June I think.
Also, latest jellybean 4.22 is unstable with the chipset the note is built on. There are occasional random reboots, some graphical issues. Recommend that you either use a 4.1.2 ROM, such as CyanogenMod 10.0, or a 4.2.2 dated from mid April or before, which is when the instabilities started. So CyanogenMod "experimental" or "snapshot" or M3 (three names, same rom) dated 4-11-13 works pretty well for me.
Hi,
I do have few perplessity about rom and android phone in general.
I have to say that I mainly had only HTC android phone (I tried the S3 but I sold it after 3 weeks, couldn't stand many things of it) and I'm somewhat quite disappointed about the wifi (of android in general and of non sense rom in particular).
Right now I'm working on a cruise ship and the wifi connection here is REALLY bad BUT I noticed few things:
1) from the same place people with iphone are using skype with video call (not the best ever but still working), with my HTC ONE I've problems loading facebook and checking email because the connectin seems SO slow (but than why ipohne user can do skype?!?!?!)
2) With any sense rom all works more or less fine BUT with 3 different non sense roms I tried I have the following "connection problems":
2a) this wifi is like an internet cafe so i need to login...surfing the net sometimes (often actually) the internet connection stops, I've to disable the wifi of my phone and turn it on again to make the internet connection works again (I don't have to login again to the internet cafe login page, just need to turn off and on the wifi module) -- with the sense rom I tried I didn't have this problem or it didn't happen so often like with the non sense rom I tried
2b) it seems that the non sense rom catch less signal, maybe it's just a feeling but from my cabin I had with a sense rom 3/4 line of signal with a non sense rom 1/2 line
So mainly what I would like to ask is:
1) Is it possible that iphone has better wifi and in a way or another is able to drain more band than an android phone? And if so, is there something to install/do to make the android phone works like the iphone?
2) Is it possible that non sense rom use different module for the wifi that in some way decrease the efficency of it? If so is there a way to install the sense wifi apk on a non sense one or is there any way to optimizing the wifi?
3) How is it possible that I loose the internet connection of the wifi in here (things that doesn't happen with my laptop and that happen not so often with a sense rom) and is there a way to fix it/boost the wifi ??
Thanks for your advice,
Massimiliano

Most here will not admit it but the iPhone is a very refined device with very good service both wifi and network. I had the iPhone 3gs and 4s for nearly 5 years and changing to the HTC One took some getting use too. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the components used or just a better antenna system, but yes the iPhone is very good at both. I'm by no means unhappy with the One but it was a noticeable change when it come to signals. That said I'll still never own another iPhone ..lol
