This is probably a really stupid question, but is it normal to be able to see the crystalline structure of the LCD screen on this phone? I just got it replaced today as my old phone was faulty, and basically if you look at this new one either at a slight angle, or when there's a reflection you can see all the small rectanglular structures making up the screen? I don't know if it's just that I never noticed on the previous one I had, or if it's a problem? First noticed it as when the screen is black it looks a bit stripey...
thanks.

Depends on the light and angle (black screen only), my one has the same. These are the capacitive screen sensors, nothing to worry about.

Do you have the JDC screen by any chance? I think it's only on the JDC screen that this occurs. My old one (before this replacement) was a sharp and didn't have this issue. I want to get it replaced but CPW say it's not really a fault as such. But this display is essentially terrible - colours aren't reproduced correctly, if I want to watch a film, everything is somewhat blue and it's essentially unusable outside because of how visible the sensors are.

Have the same issue here. Just bought the Xperia Z a week ago, and the touch sensors(if those are them) over the screen are really visible when outside and the light reflects it, basically makes no sense to have a fhd display if half transparent lines covering it. I have checked other Xperia Zs at phone shops and so far all of them had it. It's pretty annoying, and this is one of the reasons I will ask to exchange mine to an HTC one, aside of the poor battery life. Apart of that striking beautiful design.

Sharp manufactured screen here and the sensors are visible, although just barely, and only when the light hits it in the right (wrong) angle.
Same for me, on my c6602 the sensors are visible at any angle other than direct view. Its a jdc screen.
I also have a c6602 with a sharp screen and the sensors are barely visible. it actually seems like there is more space between the touch sensor and screen which hides them better than the Jdc. Although the Jdc does have better contrast.
Personally I can't stand seeing the touch sensors on the Jdc regardless of contrast and prefer the look of the sharp screen.

The c6602 is jdc, 13W11 AAC
Both are black.

Got the Xperia Z yesterday and this issue drives me crazy... in 90% of the time I can see it. Inside, outside, different light environment etc.
It's a JDC display.
Thanks for this thread! JDC screen here too and mine looks exactly the same - I thought that my phone's faulty but now I can see that it's common with this screen producent.. It seems that you either get Sharp with greyish black or JDC with capacitors showing.. what a shame!
Anyone tried to contact Sony about this?
Got it too. No idea what's my screen, but is this something to worry about? I don't see any issues with the screen.

I believe that as long as it does not disturb you, it's not a problem. It won't break the phone in any way. It's mainly a matter of aesthetics, although it may also make reading the screen in direct sunlight more difficult.
Unless I'm mistaken? Anyone wishes to share their thoughts?
hello.
from about two weeks I have Xperia z
recently in the lower left corner of the screen, began to appear a strange spot (visible in bright background, such as the white
background, the stain is "yellowish" the gray background is just a bright spot;
becomes more evident usually after a while (after warming up?)
I called the sony hotline -do not know the problem
sometimes it does not resemble a known Xperia S issue ?
ps display mdy70, phone from orange
ps sorry for my English. it's not my native language

what is this Gray background?
did u use any app for screen test?
anyway use this code for testing screen quality;
*#*#7378423#*#*
i saw problem in some pixel with a screen test app> like dead pixel
but after i use stock android test menu i couldn't see any problem
:good:
thx for response.
the color is gray
jpg in full screen
* bottom of the screen is hidden from view by the buttons on the screen (in service mode) but the spot is still visible
the white screen (white board jpg / LCD test pro app) is a yellowish spot-intensity depends on the time you use the screen, after you turn on the phone after a long break the stain is very little visible
regards K.
Isn't that the yellow tint issue that the Xperia s suffered? You might need to get it exchanged if it doesn't go away.
As the phone gets heated up it causes the glue between the screen to melt? I forgot it was sth along those lines. Thought they fixed it.
Can you post the production date? Should be sth like 13w10 aac at the bottom of your phone.

hello after the break ...
today I received new c6603 from the operator- the same date of manufacture, the same lcd manufacturer (jdc) etc-but this time zero "bad" pixel(in previous I have 1), and at this moment no spot on screen...
in the previous xz -authorized sony service confirmed the presence of lcd defects.
regards K.
The other day I was sitting in front of my computer with my One beside me. I checked my phone, turned the screen off and tried to put it away.
In the putting away process, the lighted computer monitor was reflected on my One's screen (which was off and black then), and I noticed horizon stripes on the One's screen.
I put some pictures below to help you guys understand how I got it, though the stripes are not that easy to be caught with my iPad. But you should be able to identify the stripes if you check out the silver part of the reflection.
(Damn, the pictures are upside down)
It is more like a manufacturing process rather than an issue, and the stripes are totally invisible when I use the phone, they are even barely visible under sun lights while the screen is off, however, pretty easy to notice in front of my LCD monitor though.
Again, it is totally no issue for me (and for anybody else I think, because I do not seem to find a thread about this on XDA or Google). I love my One, it is gorgeous and a piece of art. :victory:
I create this thread just to see if anybody else had ever noticed these stripes, or if I am the only "lucky" guy.
FYI, mine is US 32G unlocked model

It's the digitiser, I'm not sure what's bad about it.
There's nothing bad about it. It's normal. On the Xperia Z it is a Grid of dots that are easily visible in light even while the screen is on. Neither phone is broken, and you can't see it on the One unless you really look close on an extremely silly angle.

Well there's at least 3 of these threads actually lol. And yes it's the digitizer. Every phone will have this to some degree but they don't all have the same pattern. Maybe you'll hate me after I tell you this but you can see them very faintly when the screen is on with a pure white background That's what the other threads were about. Not a big deal at all though (you and most didn't even notice them did you? )

Anyone else's display seem to have a yellowish tint? Mine seems very yellow looking at it straight on. But when I look at it angled either from the bottom or top it looks perfectly white with just a slight bluish tint. Either way it looks much better than yellow.
So what I'm trying to figure out is of I got a bad unit and if I should go get a new one. Only reason I am even considering not exchanging is the whole "scratchgate" bs.
Anyone care to weigh in?
BTW I have the 64gb black.

Comparing mine next to my LG g3 I noticed a yellow tint as well. Not a deal breaker for me as I rarely compare screen to screen but I've owned a gs2,gs3, and gs4 and there is always some yellowish tint discussion that pops up. You can keep exchanging until you get a more bluish tone but I don't have the energy any more lol. Screen still looks great to me!!
Blame AMOLED tech. Your options right now are a slightly yellow screen with generally more accurate color reproduction or a slightly blue screen with less accurate overall color reproduction but mildly more pleasant whites (to most people).
It wouldn't be a big deal but its really bad because its centered. By that I mean when I look at all the different sides from straight on I can tell they are more blueish and it makes the center look even more yellowed. I realize the amoleds generally run warmer in tone but it seems to me that the whole screen should at least carry the same tone from the same angle. Obviously because of the curved nature the color will shift on the actual edges of the screen but everything else ought to be the same color/tone.
Or am I totally off base here?

Doesn't really answer the question which is...
A: is it possible that my display is defective since it really only shows a warm yellow tone in the center most portion of the screen?
B: is this going to be true for all sgs6e's or is there a chance of having one where the tone is the same throughout the entire display face.
I understand color shifting and how is inevitable, but I would at least like my screen to have the same tone from top to bottom (obviously the edges will have a different tone done they are being seen at an angle when viewing the phone head on) rather than Top:Cold Middle:Warm Bottom:Cold
Sent from my Samsung GS6edge
Just turned on Adaptive Display which seems to make the whole screen more uniform in tone temperature however angles are still a bit of a..... well..... bi*** because they remind me of the pure white coloring I've grown to know so well. But I suppose this is far more livable than before which was almost unbearable (thanks OCD).
May still try to swap for a new unit in a week or so just to see if anything has changed.

I have s6 edge too (32gigs black) (Indian Variant) and I also have the same problem. Coming from note 4 so this yellowish tint really is deal breaker for me!
you sure it isnt the adaptive screen setting?
what I found is if you are using the adaptive screen mode and reading a webpage w/ lots of text, it sometimes will change the tint to warmer which ends up with a yellowish screen instead of white, which may cause you to think that the screen is yellow (thats what I thought the first time I saw it)
try to change the screen type to some other settings and see if that get you the white color?
I am having the same problem. I know it's a defective screen because I have two S6 Edges here.
My black sapphire 32 gb has a white screen
My new gold platinum 64 gb has a yellow screen and its very annoying. I'm probably gonna exchange it

Hello . Please do tell if you use a screen protector film or glass . Cause i have the exact same problem and everybody saye it's the protector but i dont think so . It happend after a bootloop and because the phone turned too hot before i download the stock rom i decided to put it in refrigerator. Battey ran out and when It realized it the phone was too cold maybe next to 0 degree . After the flash was done I noticed the color has changed . So I'm kinda unsure
Does anyone get any inconsistent light bleed at the bottom of the screen, I know light bleed is normal in current screen technology, i'm just curious, top and left/right side looks fine on my unit, it's just the bottom, I will not return my unit as it isn't realy consider a defect.

Sent from my F8131 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Come to think of it, you can only see it if you are on the lock screen using the white, rose or white background, I did notice this as well on the other units before I chosen this one as my final one.
I have a slight light bleed on the bottom right hand corner. i only notice it if i really look for it,. it only shows on brighter colors. Only thing im afraid of is it getting worse.. my xperia z3 compact had the same issue, but way worse. it was yellowish, so i think it was the glue melting or something. whats crazy about the z3 compact having the issue is; i bought the phone with a cracked display and sent it to Sony to fix/replace everything that was broken and i received it like that. i havent owned one IPS display device without having light bleed.
PS. i have the xperia x, non performance.

im talking about the very bottom right part of the bezel. think of it as if you had a white tool bar at the very bottom, you would notice it on the right edge of the screen, on the bottom portion. it goes up about half an inch. I would get it replaced, but then id be without a phone and i only really notice it if im looking for it.. still bugs me with my OCD though

I'm looking and don't see it. My only issue which doesn't affect functionality and that I ignore is that my front camera isn't quite centered in the opening. It's slightly shifted to the right. It's weird because when I check the phone I don't see any gaps even with a flashlight. But no big deal.

All I have is a row of very faint light dark light dark light....... along the bottom from one end to the other, I think its just the row of LED along the bottom, I have check many units from friends and display model, they all have this.
But since it's very faint and only shows with white or beige background, it isn't important and I don't think its a defect.

If you open diagnostics, screen test and look at the full white page.. Do you notice light in the bottom of each corner? (not the top ones, but bottom). I just got my replacement because it was bothering me on my last unit.. this one has the EXACT issue, in the exact spots (more noticable on the right side). a pure black screen looks perfect though? i just think that is so odd.
also, i do notice the black strip you're talking about, i think it has to do with those leds being visable

This issue isn't bothing me, but there is a problem I have noticed, not sure if it was their during my purchase or it suddenly just popped out, but in a white screen I do have a patch about 3mm-4mm which is white that shows up, it's much whiter than the actual screen if you have white and also shows up in a biege background, I think it's what people are calling a light bleed I guess, it's on the bottom left corner about 10mm from the left and 15mm from the bottom.
I took it to a local xperia service center yesterday, and they say it could be two reasons behind it, either something is pressing on the back of the screen or a defective LCD panel, either way they say my warranty covers it, it's a shame as It was sort of a perfect screen free from any pixel problems that I find with many xperia phones.
I will have them to service it after my holiday in early October.
