Another noob question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I only got this phone yesterday and I was wondering if the 2 buttons with side of the HTC logo should light up?
Mine don't light up and there hard to see in the dark...
I tried finding a setting but I can't see anything.
Thanks for replies

Yes they should light up when the phone is in use

They do light, but not at any time. I Guess it has something to do with the auto-brightness-sensor... So if it dark it'll turn on the button lights

[Q] Does your Vivid have a red flashing light?

Hello all
this is my very first post on XDA but i got a question:
I got my vivid (black) last week and i noticed today that when you make calls there is a red light right next to the AT&T logo (left side of the AT&T logo) under the ear piece. this red light only comes on when you are calling someone. what is that light for?
this light is really hard to see in light so you should turn off the lights in your room (go in a dark place) and place a call, you should see a red light start to flash, it is very low!
i placed a call and noticed the red light started to blink rapidly? does this happen to your vivid also? what is this light for??
Thanks!!
Sensor to turn the screen on and off if its by your ear or not

Notification light Color

Since HTC named their phone the one like the geniuses they are it's hard to get details on if it's the same light from one X, green and amber.
Anyone know? I might not get it if it's not multicolored like every other major android phone. Like to customize that and the other lights are better.
Sent from my One X using xda premium
I've read it's not multicolor like Samsung phones, apparently it's just like 3 colors... amber, green and yellow? I'm not sure. But it's not multicolor like you're thinking.
My One X only did green and red, not amber? Interesting..
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
Yeah, shame it's not multi colour. With Samsung you can't customise the colours by default anyway, and the apps you can use to modify the notifications are buggy at best.

apparently yellow can be done by turning both green and red at the same time, i think it is capable of doing it, but not exactly sure if you're able to use it.
my incredible s is the same
How boring. These lights aren't that expensive... They need to get on nexus and galaxy level.

Lol what?? Not At their level just because it doesn't have the colors of the rainbow as LED colors. Haha get out of here. What's the point of so many colors? You need one color to let you know battery is low(red) and one for notifications and to let you know battery is charged(green).
Most ridiculous complaint ever.

It's a silly complaint, but I was looking at my bro's €100 Heiwei phone yesterday and even he had it, I was a little jealous
Let's be honest you can't see notifications one the One X..

there is a file somewhere which you just have to push different numbers to using the echo command.
Think there are loads of apps that do this.
I've only seen the light as amber for charging and green for fully charged.
The RGB notification LED of say the Galaxy S3 was good, what always bugged me was the lack of native support by Android. Apps that allowed you to customise them always caused excessive wakelocks and I never liked their subsequent effect on battery life. I'll care about LED's if Android can support them natively (hoping that would have a little to no effect on battery life) otherwise they add little value in my eyes.
My Sensation has got green and red

Should home and back be illuminated ?

My home and my back arent illuminated I'm sure they were when I got the phone

cover the 2 sensors on the top left with a piece of folded paper or something, do they light up?
Ah yes .. I'm sat under a bright light doooh thank you
Thought my home and back was faulty . It sometimes is less responsive than other times (double tap to get multi apps ) but I'm presuming that's a software glitch
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Others are reporting issues with the buttons sometimes not responding, not sure if it's a software glitch, or just a small footprint for the buttons, ie you have to press right on the button and not in the general area if you know what i mean.
Cool I'll relax then and stop worrying my phone is faulty. Big thanks

I would monitor how you go with pressing the buttons, it may be a glitch, but i know when i'm using mine, i am often off the button when i press it, being used to the One X for the last year, the buttons are further to the edge, so automatically i have been pressing further out than the actual buttons are.
I always turn mine off. Just saying lol

The capacitive area is in fact VERY small. Just barely bigger than the Home and Back icons themselves. Precision touch is required and is why I suspect some think its not responsive

I use an app called keyboard backlights from play. Works great but recently in occasions they come on anyway. They are off 80% of the time though. Can only do if your rooted btw

Try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39498430&postcount=7
Seems that the One has very small area of touch for buttons, so probably not software problem.
Turn on vibrate and you will realise how small of an area we have .. seems the way it's been designed and not a bug . Vibrate assists because you know when your missing now don't have the issue

Simulate battery pull problem

Has anyone else had trouble doing simulated battery pull? Ive done it before but when I just went to try it, it gets to 1 sec and doesnt reboot. Even held 30 secs longer and nothing. Anyone have any idea why that is? Will it only allow simulated battery pull when phone freezes?

Im in a room with a light on but, when I angled it up toward the light so it would get better lighting..sure enough, it worked! Thank u

I had to have the sensor in front of my laptop when I was doing stuff in the dark.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Weird how the proximity sensor can effect the powering on/off of a device. Never had that probem before. Then again Ive only owned one other phone without a removable battery. Had the htc 4g lte for a short time before getting this htc one. Is this just a software "glitch" that could be fixed with an software update or something in the htc one hardware?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Sad part is, wasnt long ago I read somewhere on xda how someone was told to do the bright light when they couldnt get their phone to power on and it worked. Never dawned on me to try that to restart it..well simulate battery pull anyways. Never seems to restart (maybe Im just impatient lol) without pressing power to get it to boot back up.

Never own a phone with build n battery so this is new to me. But cool tip I will remember this.
You just aim the light sensor but the speak to a bright light and press n hold power?

Yep if you want to do a simulated battery pull or have trouble doing it or getting your phone to power on. Just hold phone (sensor part anyways) under bright light and it should work

[Q] HTC One wont turn on :(

About a week ago, my One got VERY hot, too hot to hold, I wasn't doing anything, it was just in my pocket on standby, I turned it off to let it cool down, I left it while I was at work, and it wouldn't turn back on when I finished, so I stuck it on charge, and the charging LED doesn't come on, I've left it on charge overnight just incase and no luck, it wont turn on or charge, any ideas? thanks
Edit: I've tried every combination of buttons imaginable

Judging by what you have said it sounds like it's dead best bet is to get it replaced under warranty.
