touch screen firmware? - Motorola Droid 4

If i boot looped and had to load the maserati .xml, had spotty touch screen response, now its just dead. Replaced touch screen, re flashed multiple times both the last JB sbfs. Still no touch screen control.
What controls the touch screen then? Where is the firmware and does it get replaced/reinstalled with flashing a .xml?
I was able to push safestrap over and after installing it, all the sudden i had access to my other partitions. I cannot get into SS because i have no touch screen but is there a good chance my other partitions are interfering with my stock rom? Is it possible Kexec that i believe is ran for liquid smooth possibly the problem? Is it the kernal that controls the touch screen? b/c it doesnt work even in SS and that is before any roms are loaded....
HELP!!!

If you have twrp installed, check to see if touch screen works there before rom loads. I am having a goofy touch screen problem in a related thread. Wondering if problem lies with digitizer controller, the little magnet sensor for the slide, or worse, something on the motherboard.

It doesn't work in twrp, plus ive replaced the digitizer(touch screen) so unless i flashed it wrong somehow, its the MB.

Unfortunately this also occurs when moisture finds it's way to certain components through sweat mostly. Not saying that's your case just a possibility

I wish i could say that i have found or will find a solution. But I cannot. this is my work phone so I need a working replacement right away, which I have now done.
i will add that my screen works about 2% of the time. i have to catch it and be lucky. Then watch that i dont turn off the screen or slide it closed again. So, it HAS to be a sensor that is messed up. Yes, it could be sweat. There is a lot of that on the side of my head these days in Phoenix!
Good luck guys with this. It is on to an S4 for me!

I couldnt output the file so i ran /proc/kmsg and copy pasted the results. Are all the init: cannot find '/system/bin/...." entries in the beginning normal? Or is that my problem? And can i get around it?

[Q] Touch screen dead spots

This may be a problem beyond the scope of android, but seeing as I'm running it, I thought I'd try here first.
I've noticed that the lower left hand side of my screen has a "dead spot" where touch is simply not registered. To illustrate, I went to screen calibration's test screen and drew a straight line along the edge of the screen. (See Attachment)
I've tried recalibrating the screen (manually and resetting to default calibration) as well as wiping data and reinstalling the system. Reinstalling the system worked once, but then the problem came back and subsequent reinstalls did not fix the issue.
I'm running Incubus26jc super froyo [RLS 12] on the 15-07-10 340X480 Froyo Kernel.
Anyone else seen anything like this? As far as I can tell, the problem is not getting any worse. Currently, it's only a hindrance when trying to use keys in that region, but I can work around it by switching to and from landscape. It's a bit of a hassle, so I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the situation.
I was sure it was hardware until the system reinstall fixed it, but am now baffled as I can no longer replicate the fix.
I have not tried reinstalling the kernel but will at some point in the next day or so. I'd like to avoid switching back to WM to check if the problem persists, but may have to... we'll see. Doing everything I can to make this phone last until the Incredible month of February when I'm up for an upgrade.
dont know the issue resolution... but i have the same with my touch vogue.. and in the same 'area' apparently as well.
hard for me to hit the 'a' key on my keyboard. hehe
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one... anyone else?
Bottom right corner for me... I was able to calibrate around it but it took a few tries.

The sensitivity across my screen was inconsistent some time ago. I found that years of my abuse had taken a tole on the exterior of my phone. It eventually got worse and I bought a new housing (with a new digitizer) on ebay for a reasonable price. If it is hardware then it really isn't that hard to fix if you like taking things apart.
If you're sure that win mo accepts input from that part of the screen then nevermind my post. I would play with a painting app though and investigate the hardware further.
I may be talking a little out my a$$ with this part but.. is it possible that in calibrating your screen the os may change it's settings on how hard you have to press and such also. that may be how you got it working.
In any case, my investment in a hew housing was well worth it considering how modern my old phone has become thanks to the developers here.

In my case, no - when drawing a straight line down or across the screen, the line starts 'moving' away from the stylus (like the picture in the OP).
Gah... now it's shutting itself off randomly and the dead spot has grown. Not good at all.
Yeah, mine was better for a while then 'slid' again. I ended up swapping the digitizer with my other Vogue and things are back to normal.
Sent from my Full Android on Vogue using XDA App
I have another vogue, but am weary of doing anything like that. How hard was it to get done?
All you need to do is switch the front half of the housing rather than the digitizer itself- it's not hard. There's a teardown guide somewhere in the forum, Google Vogue teardown and it should be at the top.
Sent from my Full Android on Vogue using XDA App
The only thing that worries me is that my spare vogue exists because it was dropped in a muddy puddle. I'm hoping the water damage isn't too bad. Guess we'll just have to see.
it is really annoying
I have the exact same problem and I too thought it was a hardware issue till I saw this Thread. I was ignoring it till two days ago when it started really bugging me. Now, I don't even need to press any button and it automatically gets pressed around the curve and I have a google search box there, so it keeps on searching for eee or sss randomly and started draining my battery. Is there a proper fix for this?
I thought I'd chime in too... I could never seem to calibrate the touchscreen properly in either Android or Debian. Changing the screen resolution (i.e. msmfb scaling) seems to have no effect, whether it's 240x320 or 640x480. Any area within 5mm or so of the edges of the LCD will register as the edge, making "A" and several other keys on the virtual keyboard impossible to hit. Passing calibration values to the kernel didn't seem to fix anything, but it's possible I was using them the wrong way...
i have the same kind of problem on my Kaiser... i think its realted to hardware... either the housing or the digitizer...
I am experiencing the same problem on X10 mini pro. the same screen spot exactly, i have to try very hard to get z or x or shift to work. Sometimes when I try locking the screen and unlocking it back, it works.
update
so after a very long time with this problem i decided to change the digitizer and problem is gonne. visualy the broken digitizer had nothing wrong with it. The fix was fairly easy though, there is no glued parts involved into getting a new digitizer on the u20i.
Touch Screen
I just bought a brand new Cubot One and it looks more than perfect! It has just a little problem with the touch screen ( I think its the software, need ROM change). There is a dead line on the right side of the screen that touch doesn't work at all. Any solutions? Anyone faced that before? Can I fix it myself or do I have to send it back for replacement? Is there any video or guide that shows its done?
I uploaded a video on YouTube to show the problem but i cant post it yet.. (new member)
You can write "Cubot One touch screen problem" and it's the 1st one.
Thank You!

[Q] screen touch problem

hi.
i have milestone with screen touch problem. the problem is the right side of the screen doesnt respond including the button on the right side which looks like magnifier(also there is same in google search on screen). is this a hardware problem or software. how can i fix the problem. thanks for helping
Download an app called touch test, run it and verify that portion of the screen isn't working. Also does the screen not work all of the time? Sounds like a hardware problem a few phones have. There is however a similar problem with phantom touches that is caused by not using the motorola charger.
If it is hardware, you can get a Replacement digitizer off of ebay, or a donor phone. You have to be VERY comfortable with taking apart your phone though.
I'm not even thinking, if you have a warranty you can use that, I'm of the 'if you haven't opened it, you don't own it' crowd, so self repair is always the first thing to come to mind.

[Q] Screen not working propperly

Hey guys, i'm new in these boards, so if this is not the right way to post or the right place to ask this question, sorry!!
I have a problem with my Incredible S; There are portions of the touch screen that don't respond propperly, the most alarming one, the section where the phone-apps-personalize buttons are (mostly because all buttons are always on that portion of the screen). The other one is the section where the 'install' market button is. These sections are about 0,5cm, so the whole line doesn't work.
The screen is in perfect conditions; no scratches, not broken glass, no dirt under the glass, no water, nothing. NOTHING. Phone is barelly 4 months old; bought it factory unlocked.
I tried rooting the cell, flashing clockwork mod recovery and installing several roms to test if it was a software problem; i noticed roms with ICS and 4.0 Sense don't work at all, while other oldies, like CoreDroid with Gingerbread still won't work perfectly but it works well enough to allow me to finish the initial setup (the 'next' button is in the area that doesn't work propperly, and no, i can't flip the phone 'cause those buttons don't flip on those screens). Typing is a pain in the behind though; it's seriously a nightmare.
The problem is pretty much the same as the one on this video on youtube which link i can't post yet (but you can easily find under htc incredible, eh title, tags incredible s touch screen fail not working).
I also tried with the htc calibrating tool, and some others... no luck.
I've seen that many people have the same problem, yet i haven't found any solutions... I want to hear some opinions, if anyone has any, before i decide taking it to repair and changing a perfectly fine (to the eye) touch screen.
Thanks in advance!
This https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.hermit.touchtest than post results.
If after you have touch problems you need to either:
A. Replace screen and digitizer .
B. Pay to replace screen and digitizer.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Thanks for the suggestion; i installed and ran the app, and the results were pretty much the same; those areas are blank. If i try running my finger through them, it recognizes it as if two different fingers are running around that area but not over it.
What drives me insane is that i'm currently with the coredroid rom, and those sections *SOMETIMES* react (at least well enough so i can finish the setup on the phone and start actually using it). On the opposite, when i'm using any based ICS rom, they don't react at all. That makes me wonder, is it really a physical problem? or what?
I have a solid feeling that your digitizer is malfunctioning, however I'm no expert but I don't believe it should vary rom to rom. Maybe the touch sensitivity in coredroid is turned way up and it allows you to press the buttons from outside the area.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Heh, i know, i'm pretty sure it shouldn't vary, but it sorta does... what you mentioned about the enhanced sensitivity on the coredroid rom makes sense though; i tested about 5 roms already and it's the only one so far that sometimes works.
I'll try to buy a digitalizer screen over the net on Amazon or somewhere else and have it shipped here; otherwise i'll just have to wait 'till i go to Ontario in a few months.
Thanks again!~

I9000 back button is stucked ON

After I have changed the screen (I bought one from ebay, completed with menu button in) the back button is stucked on most of the time. There are times when it's working well and times when it's stucked ON. So I can't use my phone at all. It might be a hardware problem? I tried cm 9, cm 10 and cm10.1. The same. Thinking of taking menu, back and central button from broken screen and try one more... Any solution, please?
It seems I will break another screen for removing home button.I was wrong! Any help please?

Sounds like a hardware problem, could be from replacing your screen. So you might want to go get the screen checked out by someone just to see whether there's a dodgy connecion or anything.
Until then, use LMT Launcher or Pie Controls (same thing really) if they're built into the rom (like many have) to navigate your phone. Not exactly ideal, I know, but that's one of your only options if you don't want to get the hardware checked.

Like Soryuu said, i think it is a hardware prob ...
Any chance to test it, that you can sure that it is not the changed screen ...

[Fixed] Screen problem (ghost touches, unresponsive touch)

I have a XT1068 Stock Retail Asia, untouched 5.0.2.
Lately i've been having problems with my screen, such as ghost touches. It started randomly one morning, and nothing i do seems to help.
Sometimes i'm unable to unlock my phone due to this problem. The back, home and recents buttons too stop working. Only 1 out of 3-4 attempts to unlock the phone works.
I somehow managed to enable visual feedback for touches and took a screenshot of what's happening (see attachment).
I cleared cache, factory reset the phone but to no avail. Please help.
EDIT - A screen replacement is the only solution to this problem.

i had this problem on my friends flooded moto g xt 1064 flashing an new rom to the phone seems to have fixed it but to do that you have to unlock your boot loader witch voids your warranty you may be able to reinstall the lollypop update by going in to recovery and install update from zip file
Same problem here after 3 months without any problem .
Now I got ghost touches and unable to unlock phone by swipe
I was just about to make a thread about this because I'm having the same exact issue and I really don't have a clue as to why because I've tried everything.
In my case it seems to happen when I take my phone out of my pocket when I'm out and about sometimes the touch screen becomes unresponsive or does its own thing. For me it happens when the phone is really hot so that might be something to consider. Maybe how the phone spreads the heat or a service on the phone when the phone is really hot idk.
It makes its own touches normally around, if you pop up the keyboard on your moto, in my case the ghost touches are around the m,delete, the dot or period and enter buttons.
Any progress from any of you with the problem or any suggestions from anyone?
It doesn't seem to happen when the phone is cold or room temperature, I think.
Edit: Additional info just in case: XT1064 rooted currently on stock moto KitKat though it has happened to me at least once on all the roms I've had. It has not dipped in water ever.

i have the same problem on my xt 1068, when the phone is warm it works fine, but when is cold or some place with conditioned air the screen starts to fail, the phone is stock so i dont know what could be the problem.
i'm going to dry the phone with a hairdryer, i remembered i saved up my phone on a closet during the nights sometimes and in the mornings the phone was wet by humidity, and i wasnt worried by that, and maybe that was the problem
i will post again if i find something
sorry if i wrote something wrong, i'm from colombia and still learning english

I have the same problem, it is probably a hardware problem because it happened after reflash stock firmware and in twrp recovery also.
It's a hardware problem. Replacing the screen under warranty fixed the problem for good. If you are unlucky enough to have voided your warranty (by damaging your screen physically or water damage, don't know about unlocking), then it's going to cost around 4000 Indian rupees (around 63$) to replace the screen. It's the only solution.
Apparently this problem is relatively common as I found out from the Motorola forums.

The ghost touches affected not only the lock screen, but also the soft buttons and the notification bar. AFAIK there is no software fix for this issue.
