Why?
Because in my opinion Touchwiz is really ugly and outdated looking. Replaced many icons/colors with stock Holo ones, replaced all the cheesy rounded borders and gradients with hard edges and flat surfaces, made many things grayscale. Colors should be used for emphasis, not cluttering the whole interface for no good reason.
Why XXLPP/XXLPS/4.0.4?
Because for my needs Jellybean 4.1.x is a step back in functionality. They added lots of stuff that is useless for me (eg. multiuser), and made stuff I really need way more difficult (eg. mounting CIFS on /sdcard).
What is themed?
Settings.apk, SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk. Everything is treated with OptiPNG/DeflOpt/JPEGOptim and zipaligned.
How to install?
Do a Nandroid. Flash the .zip in TWRP or CWM. Wipe Cache/Dalvik. Reboot.
The XXLPP version was made for SkyHigh ROM P6810XXLPP ICS v4.2 - I don't know if it works on stock XXLPP. If it breaks something, just reinstall the backup you made earlier. Maybe it works on P6800 too, but then you have to remove the assert(getprop) line in the updater script.
The XXLPS version was made for the stock ROM.
Optional: The Dummy Files pack contains dud replacements for all the annoying audio and animation crap Samsung packed in their ROM. This is not a flashable ZIP (because I was too lazy to create the updater script ). Unpack the archive, mount /system in recovery, push the folders manually, and chmod the files to 644. Then you're rid of all the pings, clicks, wooshes, and plops that Samsung found cool to have in their interface, without any option to turn that junk off.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing
Think I'll give it a go, but real busy right now. Downloading for later
BTW, I see from your screenshot that you're using an older kernel. kernel is updated today to v2.8.0

Cheers, UpInTheAir - thanks for the heads up.
Sure is a nice kernel you built - upgrading to the newest as we speak. Too bad you discontinued your ROM, but it's nice as it is... (I, for one, don't care about synthetic benchmarks at all - I only care that games and movies aren't laggy and choppy. )
Oh, and v0.2 of my theme is up for grabs in the first post as well.
Added a theme version for XXLPS and audio/animation dummy files in the first post.

First of all thank you for reading this.
I've flashed Darky's ROM v6.0, it was working great. Then flashed this theme, it was still great, moreover even better.
Then I had the idea, what if I make the transparent background of the dialer a little bit darker so I extracted the DialerTabActivity.apk from Darky's ROM, changed the corresponding PNG, saved the new apk with TotalCommander and replaced the original DialerTabActivity.apk in the phone with RootExplorer. It was all right, it was working fine after reboot as well.
Then I had a greater idea, at least it seemed to be a great idea at that time What if I replace the gradient status bar background with a plain black background... I've done everything the same way with the framework-res.apk, yet after restart basically everything force closed. Tried to reflash the theme but it didn't help.
I was wondering what have I done wrong.
1) Why did it work with the dialer the first time and what went wrong with the framework-res.apk?
2) What is the correct way to do these modifications?
Thank you for all your help.
The method was fine. Both modified apks work after ROM reinstall.
Mods attached below.

i don't have balls to try it, because my gingerbread is working awesome and looks georgeous. but the circle mod status bar will fit perfect in my theme... who ever will test it, will get a "thanks" (if it is enough).
by the way: very useful thread!!!
just read this:

have you managed it and how? do you have any errors after that? thx in advance.
i'm one step closer now: i tried to extract the framework-res.apk by adb, (re)place the old battery icons by the new ones with winrar (as a lot of tutorials say on google), gave the framework-res.apk the permission 644 and adb it back to phone. i don't get errors, but the icon is stuck 80%... just when i plugin usb, it changes to charging icon (but this is stuck, too - no animation!)
can anybody try this please? i would like to know if it's related to my build (mdj gingerbread 2.2) or if i made some mistakes?! editing stat_sys_battery.xml should not be necessary, since i just replaced a few icons, right? thx in advance for suggestions.

This theme was originally created for Corvus5 ROM for the Vega, but this is built originally on the VEGAn Tab framework so it should HOPEFULLY work on here too!
OK, so for my second theme entry I have created an actual framework theme (status bar icons, custom boot animation, wallpaper etc). This theme replaces ALL statuis icons. Wifi, 3G (if you use it), battery etc etc. It also replaces most of the screen transition animations for nice, smooth swipe animations (and flyin animation for the popup menu's) that should look good with the rest of the theme. On top of this, there is also a shiny boot animation in keeping with the whole theme which installs with it (high res made for the Vega's larger screen). Everything has been created from scratch (I will attatch the source PSD files at the bottom of this post for those who wish to see how I did it, or want to edit something).
The core of this theme was created for my newly released ROM Corvus5 (created by myself and the very talented corvus) for the Advent Vega.
This is a modified version of that theme, which removes the Corvus5 logo and bootanimation, and replaces them with the standard GRID ones (again, created by me ). This has been tweaked slightly to work on other ROMS. You should be able to install this on Modaco R8, Corvus 0.5 and possibly others (I have only tested these two though!).
DOWNLOAD GRID AND FIGHT FOR THE USERS!
Flash this zip in ClockworkMod ... Be aware that if you do this after using your rom for a while, it will wipe your google account settings (sorry, unavoidable!).
The brand new and shiny boot animation made for GRID (installs with the theme!)
This screenshot was taken on the Modaco R8 ROM running ADW.

Too bad it doesnt say GTab. I think that would be cool.
Yea sorry just to clarify, this theme is for the 2.2 vegan builds, not 2.3!
I have it inverted also in another thread in the Fascinate section but it's more of a Holo theme than Blacked Out...
This thread is for the Transparent Version tho. This is a huge accomplishment since I'm pretty sure this has never been done. There have been transparent Talks but none of them had the chat screen done also.. so this is really cool!..
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU OR YOUR PHONE
Installation Guide:
FOLLOW PRECISELY
1. http://bit.ly/403TalkNOmanifestEdit Download this zip file and flash it in recovery or rom manager... once the device reboots, check your talk.apk and make sure it's working.. it'll be partially themed. If so, reboot your phone again.
2. Once the phone reboots, download this http://bit.ly/403TalkTransparent and flash it in recovery or rom manager.. Once it reboots you should have a fully transparent GTalk.apk
3. If you lose Talk at any point or just wanna go back to stock, download this http://bit.ly/stock403Talk .. it's the stock Talk.apk and flash it
This install method is the only way I got it to work and credits to TravP for collaborating with me on getting this to install due to the weird GApps issues when we touch the manifest.
*known issues*
Only thing I can find is the notification pop up menu.. it's white with black text. We're still looking into this one...

I have a Fascinate, not a Gnex.. So I don't know if this will work on other ICS Roms. Feel free to try it and feel free to add them to a zip file that will support your device.. The zip file I used is from the GApps I installed with the rom just to ensure it installs.. I'll add a "how to" guide later for anyone that want's to know...
works great for me. one request, would it be too hard to still leave black on the top navigation bar? or maybe a darker tint of some sort... I use the awesome plasma live wallpaper and the part behind the name while in a chat is almost exactly the same color as the wallpaper.

Thanks for this B-boy. I'm digging all of this. Everything is working for me just as expected.
Was wondering if you might spread this love to contacts/people?
Whoaa its awesome bro...thx

Thanks guys... glad ya like it...
Its a tough app to theme since it has install issues so I plan on leaving it as is..
Contacts is a biyatch... it force closes the dialer so I plan on compiling it from source to invert it.. along with calendar and the built in keyboard....

Well you sir, are the tits.
Hello all, this is my first time posting sth here...
Cut the chatters, this is the stock "Nexus" LWP from Nexus S (crespo/soju) 2.3.6 factory image, deodexed.
I've done plenty of searches for this LWP, quite a lot of results pop up from keywords like "Nexus S LWP" or "2.3 Nexus LWP"... But as far as I can see, some are Eclair version of that "Nexus", some are variants that only changes the background to the Nexus S one (The real difference? If you know "Nexus" displays stripes running across the screen, then you see, authentic GB "Nexus" has stripes in different widths, making it look MUCH better than the Eclair/Froyo "Nexus" with identical stripe width)
I became bored with all this search when I came up with an idea: why not grab a Nexus S "stock" ROM and extract its goodies? The authentic one is definitely in there...
So there it goes. Took me a while to get the download site for the factory image and took me more to learn to deodex (damn, the stock ROM is odexed) and finally I got the LiveWallpapers.apk out and running on my good ol Nokia N900 w/ Android 2.3.7 (woo-hoo)... Screenie below.
PAY ATTENTION TO HOW STRIPES VARY IN WIDTH:

Then...
PREREQUISITES:
1. A rooted ANDROID phone (iOS stay away!)
2. Android version >= 2.3.3. Not sure if this works with ICS/JB, but who needs it anyway? We have Phase Beam (LOL)
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
0. Make sure you have root
1. Transfer the attached LiveWallpapers.apk to sdcard
2. Use RootExplorer or whichever file manager you like (BUT with root permission enabled, of course) and move /sdcard/LiveWallpapers.apk to /sysem/app. Replace if there is already one (backup first)
3. Modify the permission of /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk to the same as other files in the same folder (at least most ROMs I came across has rw-r--r-- in /system/app)
4. Reboot and enjoy
Notify me if I'm wrong or sth, you see I'm a Chinese and not quite good at this...
And... Hope you all enjoy my work!
