Sorry i am just starting to use android and I'm kind of a noob. I used an iPhone before I got my moto x. I love the phone but I really want to root it. So I was wondering Would it be possible to unlock the boot loader in the future without using motorolas unlock tool basically to bypass the restrictions placed by att.
Thanks in advance for the answer to my noob question.

Until an exploit is found, no.
How long does that usually take

Might be never. Moto locks down harder than apple

There are numerous threads on this already. Please do a little looking around rather then starting yet another thread on a topic that has been discussed to death in this forum

On the AT&T forums for the Optimus G, they've had a bounty for any developer able to give us an aosp-like rom for the phone. In my ignorance, I'd assume this is little different than someone throwing a Nexus 4 rom on the galaxy Nexus or even the Nexus s
Is anyone up to the task of conversion? I imagine jelly bean is the preference but he'll anyone there would die even to have stock ics
Last time I checked the bounty was near 300.00 and will likely go higher
Please someone for the love of Pete make it happen!

The thread title is a bit misleading. If you truly want to spark any interest with developers change the title.
Well I've done that and as of yet you're the only response. Guess I just need to be more patient.

I know my post may be pretty useless, but change the word "convert" to "port." Sounds sooo much better

Not useless at all. Port is the correct term.

A. I thin after moto pushes out all their phones that they had planned before Google took them over we can kiss all upgrade chances goodbye. I also think that after that happens the new line of moto will be much better. I also doubt we will ever unlock the bootloader

i am wondering how will they make photoshere work when none of the Motorola phones have a gyroscope .
so for now only 4.1.2 seems possible .
I love this phone, I got rid of my S2 Skyrocket for it. Beautiful screen and the solid build were the two reasons, but the locked bootloader is so infuriating and feeling like a shameful step-child its just so frustrating...
Does anyone on this forum have a developer edition?
Just wondering...
I was going to buy one if root can't be obtained without one. It just can't happen anytime soon. I'm not rich.

If you do happen to have that kind of money don't waste it on an atrix HD. Get one of the new phones coming out this year with twice the specs.

What do we know about unlocking the bootloader? Will it be possible? If it is possible how easy it would it be.. if this has been addressed I missed it

I'd say "not high." The HTC One wasn't supposed to be unlockable with their Dev site on att but it was. Maybe this will slip through the cracks.

As with previous HTC devices, they are unlockable on HTC Dev until a day or two before street date. The AT&T and Verizon models will be locked, and will have a Developer Edition. This was already confirmed by Mr. Punit on Google+.

They were definitely still unlockable a while after street date. Hell they may still be. I haven't checked.
