Basically my old Sensation is screaming die and I have my eyes on the Moto X, but I can't decide if I should wait and stick with T-Mobile or switch to AT&T. Main things I'm considering:
I would like to use Moto Maker, which AT&T has for at least 2 months (according to rumors).
T-Mobile should be getting the black or white versions "soon."
T-Mobile's plans are $10-20 per month cheaper for my situation, assuming current cost estimates of the Moto X.
T-Mobile might have less bloatware (no carrier branding in the notification area).
I guess what it really comes down to: Is AT&T's network/user experience that much better than T-Mobile's to justify the increased cost, bloatware, and exclusive customization? While the weight of Moto Maker is definitely a personal thing, please let me know your thoughts on the difference in the networks? Having only used a smartphone the T-mobile network, I just don't know if there would even be a discernible difference.

It will vary from city to city, but unless I was really strapped for cash, I'd pay $10 extra for AT&T. Here in DC, I'm always on LTE on ATT, but on T-Mobile I'd say I saw edge at least a couple of times per week.

Good to know thanks! I guess my only worries with respect to the bloatware is the AT&T logo in the notification area and something about an app that constantly popups asking to use it when calling someone (or something like that, it may have just been speculation I read).

-Will I receive over-the-air software updates?

The reason T-Mobile users need to get this model is because it's the only Moto X which supports T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 network on the AWS band. The AT&T-compatible Moto X supports T-Mobile's LTE, but not the HSPA band, which means that if you fall off of LTE you'll be in T-Mobile's much more limited, slower 1900MHz HSPA+ 21 coverage.

I had no issues swapping either operator's SIM into my phone. It was SIM unlocked out of the box and the AT&T SIM worked great--native tethering even worked without a mod (sadly still see no solution for native tmo tethering).

I would expect you to receive the same OTA updates as anyone running a tmo Moto X regardless of the att SIM.

No. Many AT&T devices display more bars for a given signal strength than the same device on other operators (i.e. AT&T falsely makes signal look better than it is); I don't know if the AT&T Moto X does that or not, but it's just a display thing and not an actual difference.

The AT&T version may be more likely to get LTE there--I am not familiar with the LTE bands used in Europe--but neither will have trouble attaching to the various European 3G networks (assuming you somehow convince AT&T to give you a SIM unlock code, or pay for one). Also if you include Canada in your calculations, a number of their networks will benefit from HSPA over AWS.

Yes, Motorola's warranty. As for other stuff, you'd have to ask SquareTrade (or whoever) to be sure, but I don't really see how unlocking the bootloader would make them reluctant to replace your cracked-glass phone.
Lastly, people have said that the AT&T version of the phone is not bad in terms of bloatware. Does anyone think it makes more sense to just get the AT&T version of the phone?

If you're buying unlocked anyway, I think the tmo version is an easy choice unless you desperately need a new nano-SIM (though I think AT&T will give you one for free if you drop by a store). The bloatware may not be that bad on the AT&T version, but you have to use some awkward hacks to get system r/w and the like. Of course if you're willing to do that, then you can kill the bloatware anyway.

Funny you should mention that. The AT&T 4.4 build has 5 bars to display the cellular signal strength, the tmobile 4.4 build only has 4. It is quite odd they are not the same, wonder who wanted something different...

I believe AT&T using five bars vs. T-Mobile's four predates their cheating on signal strength, but I could be wrong. I've only been a T-Mobile customer for about a year (and have now almost entirely phased out AT&T, woohoo!).
The lesson is that signal bars are misleading at best, meaningless and confounding at worst. Check the numeric signal strength if you're interested in knowing how good your signal really is.

As someone who just received his discounted Off-Contract T-Mobile Moto X, I have to recommend it. I got the $150 promotional discount and was curious myself as to which carrier version to buy. From all of the information gathered here on XDA, I made the choice to go with T-Mobile (and have no regrets, yet). I'd go into details on why I chose T-Mobile and such, but teiglin has already provided great (and accurate) answers to your questions.
So instead, I'll give you a quick recap:
- The T-Mobile version of the Moto X has absolutely no branding that I can find. Literally the only T-Mobile symbol I could find on the phone (software or hardware) was inside of it, on the T-Mobile Nano-SIM card.
- [From what I've read: motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/87215/] The T-Mobile version is essentially the developer's edition without the additional warranty coverage for unlocking your bootloader.
- The T-Mobile version of the Moto X has almost the same frequency bands as the AT&T version (except it also supports the HSDPA 1700 MHz band and doesn't support the LTE 850 MHz band)

My Moto X usage:
I'm a former AT&T customer, having recently switched to Straight Talk through their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) program. I was still using the Motorola Atrix with a Mini-SIM card purchased from Straight Talk (the AT&T compatible one).
After receiving the $150 promo code and remembering the $100 old Motorola phones trade in program, it seemed like the right time to make the move and upgrade ($500 retail down to $250 after rebates/promotions). I placed my order on December 5th and was told it would arrive by the 10th (came on the 11th due to snow).
Once I got my Moto X, all I had to do was cut my Mini-SIM card down to a Nano-SIM card. Templates can be found here: airportal.de/nanosim/. Aside from the network cutting in and out (lasted for the first 10 minutes or so), I've had no problems since. I have access to 4G LTE and everything else seems to be working fine (haven't tried tethering yet).
In the end, I'd recommend the T-Mobile version just because there is no branding and it works fine on the AT&T network as well.

I got the TMO version for use on AT&T. No branding at all.
I went to the AT&T store and they put in a new sim. I'm getting perfect service though I only see the 4G at the top. Wondering if I should also be seeing 4GLTE? Is there something else I need to do to get LTE speeds? Or am I already getting them and just don't see it?
Look here in xda, you won't get lte unless ATT registers your Moto with an imei from another ATT Moto. I had the same issue. There's a post here in xda where you will see what I had to do and who helped me

I remember reading somewhere a chat between a potential customer and a Motorola rep. The rep said that unlocking it voids the entire warranty with Motorola, hardware included. So you would have to check with whoever else you could get the warranty with.

Sorry for the late response. I actually had to check my phone a few times just to confirm my thoughts before posting them here. I can't really comment on 4G and 4G LTE for AT&T, because I have Straight Talk. But from what I've read, I believe Straight Talk piggy-backs on AT&T's network as is, so I'd imagine it'd have to be similar.
I've been noticing the 4G icon in the notification bar also indicates 'LTE', although not all the time. There are times where I also see only the 4G icon without the 'LTE' symbol, during which speed tests have been much slower. Can't confirm what r_diaz13 posted, and I don't know if what he's saying applies to people on Straight Talk's network.

This is WRONG.
Totally NOT necessary to use an IMEI from a different LTE phone.
I just activated an XT1053 (the TMo version, which is SIM unlocked).
Put in an AT&T nano-sim card which I picked up from my AT&T company owned store.
Called in to activate the card -- but asked to talk to 2nd level support since I knew 1st level would NOT be able to help and likely tell me the same kind of dumb stuff I've seen posted about how to get the phone to work.
2nd level support was great -- and because I knew what I was talking about, it took less than 5 min to take care of what is necessary.
You will need to manually enter MMSC and MMS Proxy in the APN settings
MMSC should be:
-https://mmsc.mobile.att.net-
don't enter with the dash at front and back, the forum doesn't let you post what they think are links if you are new.
MMS proxy should be:
proxy.mobile.att.net
Just as an FYI -- these settings are BURIED (you cannot see them) on the AT&T version --
And these settings are NOT DOWNLOADED AUTOMATICALLY via SIM card (I thought they might be).
You can confirm whether you are getting LTE service not only by the indicator in the status bar up at the top with signal strength but by going into ABOUT PHONE from the Settings menu (scroll all the way down). Then in that menu, click on STATUS. Here you will scroll down and see the battery level, network signal strength and mobile network type.
If you are getting 4G only, it would should HSPA+.
If you are getting LTE, it will show LTE here.

He told me since I didn't have an lte plan before it wouldn't just pick up lte. ATT has to end other feature in the account. When I gave then the tmo imei, it shows up as gsm only, not lte.
So if you already have lte, you are good to go with just a simple sim swap. If you don't have lte already, you need to follow these steps. Nothing to do with APN settings or anything.

This is wrong information -- hopefully people here read through to get the accurate information.
I did NOT have an LTE plan before (I had a Moto Atrix 4G, which gave me HSPA+ service).
When I gave them the IMEI from the TMo Moto X I purchased, I asked them specifically, what does it show in your system?
2nd level support told me it was a non-ATT version of the Moto X -- totally accurate.
She then knew exactly what settings were needed (as I noted above in my post) to be entered. These settings are not shown anywhere on the AT&T version of the Moto X (again, I know because I have 3 of those that I unlocked).
To be clear to anyone else thinking of getting the TMo version of the Moto X. You do not need to lie and give them some other IMEI. You simply need to make sure you have those settings input into your phone. As soon as they were entered, my TMo XT1053 showed LTE service.
Please do not continue to give out wrong information -- this may have solved the problem for you (to give a different IMEI), but it is totally not necessary. I have seen people asking about how they are supposed to get an LTE IMEI to activate a nano sim card and get LTE service. It is not necessary on the TMo version (now Moto says this is the GSM unlocked version -- which is really more accurate because it has absolutely NO BRANDING and no other software from any provider -- and is exactly the same as the Dev Edition except for the fact that the Dev edition can be bootloader unlocked and retain its warranty).
I have the Dev Version (same as T-Mobile) running on Straight Talk with AT&T. Other than one small configuration issue in the phone settings LTE is working fine.

So I'm looking to upgrade but don't want to be stuck in another 2 yr contract. I'm thinking of using Verizon's edge program and getting the moto x and then paying the rest off when my contract is up at the end of the year. I would like to know if its possible to then go with an AT&T sim card and prepaid option in the same phone?
I have read all Verizon 4G phones come sim unlocked. I can't find either if the Verizon version comes with the GSM radios necessary to do this.
Any help on the subject would be great! Really tired of Verizon..

Won't work. Vzw uses Cdma for voice and lte for data. Unless someone proves me wrong, the phone can't do voice calls on att network

The carrier issue aside (see above) you should not even consider upgrading with Edge unless you want to pay for you phone twice. It is a complete rip off.
All newer Verizon phones are gsm unlocked and will be able to do voice and most of them hspa+ data on ATT. Weather the lte will work really depends on the phone and what radios they put in it.

It is possible to use a GSM carrier's sim in Verizon's phones for both voice and data. What would you like as Proof?
I don't have an X yet, but....
I have both Verizon and T-Mobile lines for work. (Verizon for personal).
My T-Mobile phone is a Galaxy S3. When T-Mo started supporting the iPhone, our corp rep swapped my sim to a T-Mo Nano SIM for me.
Since then, I have put my T-Mobile sim into my Verizon iPhone 5, VZW Galaxy S4, VZW BB Z10, VZW BB Q10, and VZW Nokia 928. Doing so works fine for voice, data and text messaging on T-Mobiles network, but at EDGE speeds since these VZW phones don't support the 1700mhz UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ bands that T-Mo uses. They do support the 1900mhz band that ATT uses, but I don't have an ATT sim handy to pop them in.
Oh, and I did need to use a SIM adapter to convert between nano and micro since only the iPhone 5 uses Nano sim. I do not recall results of trying to SMS, I really don't sms anyway.

I hate seeing this response all the time on Verizon devices. Most modern Verizon LTE phones do GSM just fine. Verizon used to call this being a "World Phone", but really all Verizon phones are world devices now. Galaxy S3/4, Note 2/3, all of Moto's phones, etc.

In the past some phones on Verizon with GSM capabilities were software restricted from connecting to US GSM providers.

i think in the past verizon phones were GSM locked for only europe / asia and not US GSM carriers.
i think the moto x, and the droid ultra/maxx/mini are not GSM locked for US.
i just switched from verizon to t-mobile. and my last phone was a droid razr m. i unlocked the radio to be able to use t-mobile for a week before my moto-x came, and it DOES work on at&t / t-mobile.
in this case it supported at&t / t-mobile on edge and voice. with 1900mhz hspa+ at&t 3g (and refarmed t-mobile band). no LTE support.
i think the xt1060 is the verizon moto -x and it doesnt havef support for t-mobile HSPA + 1700/2100 AWS or the t-mobile or at&t LTE bands.
so if you bought a verizon moto x, and used it on at&t in the future you'd only get hspa+ 1900mhz at&T "4G". and edge/voice. but it should work fine.
I can confirm that putting my wife's iPhone 5 nano-sim into my Verizon Moto X does work, and I get H+ (7-8mbit) speeds.
Okay so the next question would be, does this also apply to Sprint's Moto X? I hope it does but I am not holding my breath.

i don tthink sprint has GSM unlocked by default. you'd have to find a way to unlock it, which from the sounds of it on this forum from other posters is not easy. probably have to be a sprint customer and say you are going on a trip to europe etc...

I got a T-Mobile SIM for my VZW Droid Maxx (same chipset as the Moto X). With no changes to any settings it gets voice and text, and after manually inputting the T-Mobile APN I picked up H+ and the 1900 MHz 4G in my area. There's an article on Android Central with pictures of a Droid Ultra on a GSM network (I think AT&T).
That said, Verizon's tech support maintain that their unlocked phones aren't allowed to use any non-Verizon US carrier. They also said that if I take a U.S. T-Mobile SIM card roaming outside the US it will work there. The last generation of carrier locks were based on the nationality of the SIM card, not the tower, so that doesn't make much sense. Further reason to question anything tech support tells you.
I have a Verizon moto x and I placed my Att nano Sim in and I can only seem to get hspa+ not LTE. Other than that everything else seems to work fine.

I think you would get LTE if you unlock the bootloader and flash the att modem files. I think some people with the Dev edition ultra maxx flashed the att X radio and it enabled LTE.

I put a T-mobile SIM in my stock 16GB Verizon Moto x. Here is what works and doesn't.
First off, 4G works! in the South Jersey area and it is Blistering fast, I have exceeded 40MB speed test downloads twice, Several in the high 30s and I am avg in mid 20s. Uploads are averaging 20+/- . Compared to Verizon this is like comparing Fios to 1999 era dial up. the best I ever got on Verizon 4G was 14 download but average between 4 and 9 !
The Network notification switches a lot between 4G, "H" mode, whatever that is, just bars and another which I didn't catch quick enough to read ?
Battery has been amazing compared to my galaxy Nexus, I got 7.5 hours of Actual "Screen on Time" which included some GPS use and an hour of music streaming total phone up time was 34+ hours. How long it will perform like this is anyone's guess, today i got about 6.5 of Screen on time. I hope this inst a trend
Now for the bad news - Using it as a Phone. Incoming calls are fine but, making outgoing is a Pain in the A$$.
When I dial a number, (which is a hassle on this KitKat dialer) it often goes to the home screen or back to the dialer. The Call Fails. I am not sure if my dialer is buggy or its a compatibility problem. the KitKat Dialer on the Moto X is an exorcise in futility. Google are you listening? Why reinvent the wheel. All I want in my Dialer is a Number Pad! and a phone book.
When I Open dialer I see Recent calls up top, the whole middle section says all contacts and is otherwise blank, the bottom has the number pad icon, History and settings dots.
Clicking the number pad icon enlarges the bottom section, which then goes all white and removes the three icons. I have to then click the back arrow and re-click the number pad icon to bring it up the actual dialer. .
At this time I can dial. and then the call always fails on the first attempt. Sometimes it takes several attempts to go through.
When I click send on the dialer the 4G disappears and I am left with just the bars. they come back when call is done but sometimes take a few minutes to do so.
If you Kill the dialer app or swipe it away, coming back to it you will have the same issues when trying to get the number pad (two attempts) if you dont, the number pad will open on first attempt. but the calls will still fail on the first try.
I also cant use the internet when in a call, whether WiFi is on or off. Is this a T-mobile problem? I could use the net in Verizon when in a call when on 4G or WiFi
The Data is set to global mode but I have tried both the other settings. On boot up I get a warning saying the SIM is not recognized which I just swipe away.
I am also having this problem. After making a call, the music player and the phones "volume" aspects cease to work., Meaning, I get no sound out of the phone, Music, notifications alarms etc.. This happens almost every time and the only fix is a reboot
I disabled all Verizon Bloat and a lot of Moto Bloat as well This could be causing some of the bugs? But i have tested several different configurations all with the same outcomes.

Question is, which carrier's phone would I be able to use outside the US? I'll be going to Europe this summer and would like to purchase a local SIM in Europe and use it there, instead of paying roaming fees on AT&T or TMO.
According to Wikipedia (can't post link) and what I've read on here, the TMO version is SIM unlocked. So this means it will work on all GSM carriers, right? In the US, that would be AT&T (if TMO doesn't have good signal where I live), and when I travel, that means I can use a local SIM, correct?

Yep, that's correct. T-mo is SIM unlocked. I use mine with AT&T actually too. It should work abroad with no trouble other than tracking down a local nano sim or cutting one down.
If however you want to use LTE abroad I don't think the bands in the T-Mobile version match those used in Europe. HSPA+ should work fine though.
From my experience when traveling abroad a prepaid SIM w/ LTE was way more expensive than something I wanted just for being able to gchat home and look up directions on gmaps so it was a moot point.

Found a thread here explaining the differences between AT&T, TMO, and Dev Edition. From what I can see, the TMO edition is more flexible than the AT&T edition. Only difference compared to Dev Edition is that unlocking the bootloader on TMO voids your warranty.

LTE works in Europe although is not yet as widely spreaded as in the USA. But you'll be fine with 3G which is fast enough and most countries are well covered with that network. More important issue is roaming if you are planning to visit different countries. You must switch between different operators and even using service from the same operator in different states ( e.g. T-mobile) imply roaming charges. In my opinion the best solution is using local sim with best data plan and voip for calling in every country. If you don't want to switch sim cards, you may find the best roaming solution with prepaid Vodafone Italy. You can buy its clone online (http://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/europa-sim-roaming-data-sim-card/) and refill it in any Vodafone shop around Europe.

I love this phone and have been waiting to buy it for a long time. I prefer the customized version from Moto Maker that is available in US only and not in other countries. My friend is due to travel from US to Dubai by end of this month and I can finally get my hands on the customized version.
Before continuing please bear that my knowledge on this subject is very new.
I have few concerns. I live in UAE where the freq bands by the network provider are 900&1800 Mhz for GSM, 2100 Mhz UMTS, and LTE 3&7 (1800& 2600 Mhz). My concerns are:
1. I doubt the 4G will work. I think Moto x supports a different band for LTE/4G than the one supported by network providers in UAE. So the 4g will not work for Moto X in Dubai correct?
2. If 4G does not work, will the Moto x function with the 3G service provided by network providers here?
I dont know if I understand this topic thoroughly, so let me put my concern in very layman terms - Will a Moto X bought from the Moto Maker store in US, work with UAE network providers 3G service?

Just get Tmobile version customised. 3G will work, 4G wont and phone will be SIM unlocked out of box and you will be able to unlock the bootloader as well.
No need to worry about 3G.
Europe will soon get Moto Maker too! It is planned for Q2. The European Moto X's (XT1052) frequencies are:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100
LTE: 800/1800/2600
So if you can wait you can get it via Europe

I'm not aware what a bootloader is - a newbie to the tech side of phones or anything. A quick search reveals it to be a set of commands executed at startup/OS. Now, at the risk of sounding even noobish than I have already portrayed, my question is -
1. Will this unlocking the bootloader affect the Touchless controls?
2. Also, since the phone is not officially launched in UAE - I wouldnt be able to get any changes (like unlocking the bootloader or anything else) done.

Thanks for your reply tommer. I checked into that possibility - issue is the phone is significantly more expensive in Europe. It costs a good 150 USD more than US. Now 4G is nearly double speed as that of 3G I think. However, 3G speed is fast enough for me.
So the trade-off is between 150 USD or double the speed than what is enough for me. I chose to save the moolah instead.

If you want to keep phone stock, no need to unlock the bootloader. But unlockable bootloader will allow you to flash custom recovery and root the phone.
does not matter where you are. You will still be able to unlock the bootloader through Motorola site. All this is optional. T-Mobile version just offers you this freedom along with moto maker.
Just unlocking bootloader will not affect touchless controls.

After many months of consideration, I am considering upgrading my old Droid 2 to a Moto X. I am currently with Verizon, on a very old grand-fathered plan, which works just fine for me. If I pay for the device, I can keep this plan, and avoid a significant increase to my monthly fees. I want an unlocked phone I can use for European travel, and at home, if possible. I am also considering switching to ATT. Verizon still has better coverage for the places we live and visit most often. ATT has a more attractive data plan for the way I use a smartphone, if I upgrade my current plan.
I would like to purchase a global SIM before I leave, in order to avoid ATT or Verizon expensive international fees, and to be able to have both a European and US phone number, and to have support available in English.
As much as I would like to avoid both Verizon and ATT, the other US carriers do not have service where I am.
There are several ways to buy this.
1) Through Verizon - Cost $399
2) Through Motorola Moto X Motomaker website - Cost $299. When it comes time to select the version, I have the choice of
a) GSM Unlocked - ATT and T-Mobile 4G LTE with Global HSPA
b) Verizon
c) ATT - I am assuming this is a locked version???

After 2 sessions with Motorola on-line chat help, I am more confused than ever.
In the first conversation, I was told that the Verizon phone will not work in Europe, and does not have GSM.
In the second session, I was told that the ATT version is not guaranteed to work in Europe. Huh???? Have the specs changed? Or is Motorola support totally incompetent?

Buy the developer edition for Verizon. If you have a very old grandfathered plan on VZW, wouldn't that mean you have unlimited data? By upgrade, do you mean adding more talk time minutes?

Why?
Only The Verizon XT1060 (Dev Edition, Moto Maker, Retail edition) supports CDMA/EVDO needed for Verizon's voice, sms, and 3G service. Since the other X's don't support CDMA/EVDO they can NOT be used on Verizon.
The XT1060 supports GSM, HSPA/HSPA+ for global roaming
The XT1060ships SIM unlocked, and can be used with domestic GSM providers as well as global (some conditions apply)
The Dev Edition allows you to unlock the bootloader and root the phone and disable write protection, and does not void the warranty. The Moto Maker and Retail editions cant be unlocked via Moto, and while a 3rd party China Middleman (see thread in general section) has been selling unlock codes again, it hasn't been as consistent and reliable, and could go away at any moment) it would void your warranty.
because you can unlock the Dev Edition's bootloader and thus root and disable write protection, you can have better success when using the phone with another provider's SIM card, and their settings.
The conditions on GSM Use... the X supports the standard QuadBand GSM for global roaming, as well as the GSM bands carriers like ATT and T-Mobile use. HSPA/HSPA+ frequencies supported by the XT1060 are compatible with ATT in the US. T-Mobile support varies. Where T-Mo has completed their "network modernization" (refarming 1900mhz from 2G to HSPA+) the XT1060 will get HSPA+, but if you are in an area where T-Mobile hasn't, you'll only get EDGE.
The XT1060 only supports LTE Band 4 and 13. T-Mobile does use Band 4, I am not sure if ATT does, but if they do its not their primary band. LTE when global roaming will not be possible.
When trying to use the XT1060 with a GSM carrier, expect to be limited to HSPA/HSPA+ if you want voice to work as well. There are some tweaks outlined for getting the XT1060 to work T-Mobile for voice/data/LTE. Having an unlocked bootloader along with root and write protection disabled is crucial for this. This tweaks may allow you to work for other GSM based carriers that support LTE band 4 as well.

This is really the best choice. I love my unlocked Verizon Moto X. With a custom ROM it doesn't even show a trace of being carrier branded.

You should get LTE, but you won't get HSPA/HSPA+ unless you are in a "re-farmed area" using UTMS on 1900mhz.
Sounds like you have already done the research....so not really sure what you are asking...
You can see if you are in a re-farmed area by searching google for "t-mobile network optimization" - if you area is "optimized" you are in a refarmed area.
The big drawback is that *IF no T-mobile LTE is available, AND you aren't in a re-farmed area* you will only get 2G (EDGE) speeds. YUCK!

alright so i should get LTE and i did some research but just wanted to make sure so i dont get screwed over. I live in Leesburg va which is about 30 minutes from DC and DC is one of the refarmed areas so should i get the HSPA+ to?

if T Mobile's website says that your area has completed network optimization then yes. You should be good for both LTE and HSPA+. Remember that HSPA is only a fallback for when LTE is unavailable... :good:

One thing to keep in mind is that if you buy the AT&T branded XT1058 it is the ONLY variant that cannot have the bootloader unlocked, which means you can't flash the T-Mobile ROM to get things like visual voicemail working as they should..
I actually ended up soft bricking one of my XT1058 because I tried to flash T-Mob version, am now waiting on official 4.4.4 FW to be released so I can get that fixed.
In retrospect, I'd have bought an XT1053 instead or a Rogers-branded XT1058 - i didn't do my research and hence got suckered into the lower prices of the ATT ones on eBay.. just my 2 cents..

Um....no.
In your original post, you said you intended to "unlock" it - I **THOUGHT** you meant "SIM-UNLOCK" it.
Not only is the AT&T Moto X **BOOTLOADER-LOCKED**, but it is also **SIM-LOCKED** at AT&T.
The ONLY way to use it on T-Mobile is to SIM-UNLOCK it - you do this by obtaining an unlock code from an online unlock code seller.
Now there is only ONE way to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash other ROMS. You have to pay $45 to the "China Middleman" to get a bootloader unlock code. He somehow has access do Motorola's database. He doesn't have all of the codes, so it might not be possible to BOOTLOADER-UNLOCK at all. There is no other way. Zero.
Considering that you are going to have to pay between $10 and $30 to get a SIM-UNLOCK code, **AND** another $45 to get a BOOTLOADER-UNLOCK code (assuming you want to be able to root and flash custom ROMS).....you might want to give up on this idea of using an AT&T Moto X, and instead, buy the actual T-MOBILE Moto X.
I really thought you already understood all of this. Your OP stating that you intended to unlock it to use it on T-Mobile gave me the impression that you KNEW it was sim-locked to AT&T.
Hope this answers all of your questions.

The ONLY way to use it on T-Mobile is to SIM-UNLOCK it - you do this by obtaining an unlock code from an online unlock code seller.
Now there is only ONE way to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash other ROMS. You have to pay $45 to the "China Middleman" to get a bootloader unlock code. He somehow has access do Motorola's database. He doesn't have all of the codes, so it might not be possible to BOOTLOADER-UNLOCK at all. There is no other way. Zero.
Considering that you are going to have to pay between $10 and $30 to get a SIM-UNLOCK code, **AND** another $45 to get a BOOTLOADER-UNLOCK code (assuming you want to be able to root and flash custom ROMS).....you might want to give up on this idea of using an AT&T Moto X, and instead, buy the actual T-MOBILE Moto X.
I really thought you already understood all of this. Your OP stating that you intended to unlock it to use it on T-Mobile gave me the impression that you KNEW it was sim-locked to AT&T.

that is what i meant in the OP but then you said that the bootloader cant be unlocked so i was also wondering if it can be rooted. Guess not ill look into T-mobile Moto X's
