Do active notifications and other lockscreen goodies work when you have a PIN code set?
PS Why are some people having wet dreams over these when Symbian had it years ago?
it doesn't. after you say the "ok google now" and your pin lock is already active, the phone will have you type your pin before it starts registering your google now queries.

Unless you have a skip!
The other thing you could do is take advantage of the Trusted Bluetooth Devices feature. Not perfect, but if you're around a device you usually pair with you can avoid having the device lock.

He's also asking about active notifications, which will still be displayed even if a PIN is set. However, the PIN will still be required to get into the phone.

I'm hoping someone comes up with a low power bluetooth beacon I can hang on my keys. Wander away too far from the phone and it locks itself. The only question is whether an activesync policy would allow that.

As far as I'm aware, activesyncs just require your phone to have security enabled. I'll test it with mine once it comes in and try to let you know.

I suspect it depends on how they've interpreted the "Password enabled" policy. My current device interprets that as PIN or password only - no pattern or face unlock.
I'll be interested to hear your results though.

I believe my Vivid even interpreted Password Required as a pattern unlock...so it may depend on ActiveSync server and device.

I encrypted my 32gb moto x and have discovered that my voice commands are halted by the PIN prompt. It will proceed as usual if I enter the PIN but this defeats the purpose of not having to touch the device. The only feature that seems to work is giving a command to call out. Is there any way around this? I'm not sure how this would be possible without creating a vulnerability in the system, i.e. mimic my voice. Could I only encrypt part of the drive to nestle photos and other data in? The skip is a little better but still I have to "touch" the device.
Thanks

I don't think this has to do with encryption. Mine isn't encrypted but I do have a pin screen unlock and it prompts me to unlock it when I do voice searches like "who won the last world series" or whatever. I don't understand why but I think that is normal operation of the phone and not due to you having encrypted it.
By the way, was there any performance hit or did it warn you that HD video or anything like that would be impacted by encrypting the device?
reviving this thread - I would like to encrypt my phone, but would that mean having to place a password on my device each time I unlock it? I would rather the password/PIN enabled at bootup only.
basically, I do not want to lose the ability to use bluetooth via my car and the touchless controls if my device requires to be touched due to the encryption.
anyone that has encrypted their phone care to chime in?
thanks!

i had to encrypt my phone as a result of my employer's corporate email policies. encryption requires you to input a password when your phone is powered on/rebooted, in order to decrypt the device. in addition to that, boot times take twice as long because the OS boots once, realizes your data is encrypted, then boots again.
as far as unlocking the device, encryption forces you to have at minimum NFC unlock (moto skip), which isn't as painful as having to put in a pin every time. however, all active notifications and touchless controls work as expected.
with that said, my corp policies put so many restrictions on my phone, i couldn't even use the touchless controls with my phone locked. device administrator blocked them. long story short, i'm rooted now.

thanks for the response. I probably would encrypt if I didn't have to do that moto skip or password unlock. just don't want to have to carry that piece around with me and take the time to enter a password (I know, I know, it only takes a second with a pattern, but still quite annoying). but I suppose that's the price you pay for security.
I got my own Moto X and wish to configure it to have a password but to use my Bluetooth in my truck as a Trusted Bluetooth.
I paired the phone to my truck successfully. I configured the security settings to use a PIN and selected the Truck as a Trusted Bluetooth. I expect that the phone will bypass the PIN when paired in the truck - it doesn't do that. It requires me to pin in then it will stay unlocked. is that how it works? Seems to take the appeal of Trusted Bluetooth if I still need to pin in even once.
That is how it works.

So the trusted Bluetooth requires the entry of a password once?
kind of makes it less convenient than I hoped for
How is that? You set it up and that's it every time after it connects itself and you do nothing. How much more convenient could it be?

That's how Moto set it up. If your phone is locked when your trusted Bluetooth devices connects and you have a pin, password, pattern, etc then you have to unlock the phone. After that it remains unlocked. I would guess it is a security feature in case your trusted Bluetooth device and your phone end up in the wrong hands.

With the slide to unlock I don't have to unlock anything it does it on its own.

as I said - it is still asking me to enter a pin in the truck even while paired with the BT. That is not convenient or safe if the vehicle is moving.
I will delete the BT pairing and go through it again - all I was asking is how is it SUPPOSED to work, because it is not working that way for me at this time.

once you do it there will be a pop up every time it connects what you need to do is check the box on that pop up that says never show this again. then it will do it without you doing anything. Hope this helps

Still not the case. I finally just put a skip label in the truck and unlock it when I need to. I was expecting a totally hands off experience but that does not seem to be the case. I did click the box you refer to but I am still being asked to PIN in.

Some bluetooth devices don't stay connected enough to consistently work as "Trusted Devices." Every time the devices disconnects and reconnects, you need to enter your PIN/password/pattern again. Ideally, this means only once when you first connect, but if you have a device that constantly disconnects and reconnects, then you'll be constantly entering your PIN.
I use Pebble watch as my Trusted Device. It generally works perfectly, but every so often I have to enter my PIN anyway, after the watch has reset its connection.
Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 SM-N960F.
I use fingerprint recognition, face recognition and a pin number so hadn't needed my pattern for a while.
My battery ran out. I charged the phone, restarted, it asks for pattern and after a number of failed attempts, have 1 left. Before I try one last pattern and have to do a factory reset (and lose all my family holiday snaps over the last year), is there any way I can get into the phone and recover the data?
There is a dearth of rubbish and click bait on the web. But if anyone can help, I'm told it's XDA. I have a samsung and google account - both linked to phone, remote access, a backed up OS (but not photos), but can't connect - presumably because it has not booted up. Any help appreciated! - & no I haven't enabled any development options....
is it rooted, do you have twrp on it?
i am copying this from other website. you can try this method.
If your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network and it is linked to your Samsung account then you can unlock your device’s screen remotely from the Find My Mobile website.
Use any computer or mobile device with Internet access, open a web browser and go to http://findmymobile.samsung.com. Click on SIGN IN.
Click on MORE.
Click on UNLOCK MY DEVICE.
Enter your Samsung account password and then click on UNLOCK.
Depending on the network and the state of your device, this process may take a few minutes. You will receive a notification and the screen of your mobile device will be unlock.

I don't think it would be possible sadly. You have not enabled USB Debugging so you can't flash anything. Also OEM Unlock is turned off. It doesn't work via remote control as the phone is not booted up pass the lock screen at least once. How can you forget your pattern ? Try to remember it or guess blindly, maybe you'll catch the correct one. Also if you do eventually get in again, turn on auto restart once a week. That not only helps to keep performance in top shape but it will ask for the pattern once per week when it auto-restarts so you won't forget it again.

Isn't it you need to enter pin number, not the pattern? Pattern is more secure than a pin?

Hi,
Is there currently any way to disable the unlock pattern on a SM-N9600?
I have been using the same pattern every since i got this phone, and used the same pattern on the phones before it. I woke up yesterday morning to the phone telling me i need to input the unlock pattern like it does every morning, but it wouldn't accept the pattern that i know is correct. I know all the passwords for the google accounts and samsung account that is on the phone, and my fingerprint is also on it. Is there any way to use any of the above to unlock the phone?
I also tried using find my mobile, but it's saying remote unlock is disabled on the phone. USB debuging is also not enabled on the phone as far as i know.
I contacted Samsung customer service but got no real help, they couldn't even answer how many attempts I have to try the pattern and if numerus failures would eventually wipe the phone.
Any help at all is appreciated.
You should be able to unlock your Samsung device in Find My Mobile, then you can go into the Settings > Security and reset your security preferences.

What about the Google one?
Best bet in the future is to keep the phone glued to you (not hard to do) and avoid passwords/ lockouts.
More times than not the only people they lock out is you. Hardware failures many times lead to complete lockouts. Hardware failures happen unpredictably... been there, done that
No password, no problems; don't get too clever for your own good.

The google one doesn't allow unlock anymore, only lock.
If i was getting clever with the pattern and that caused it, I wouldn't feel so bad, I'd know it's my fault, I'd tell myself i deserved it, but this is basically the only pattern i've use since my first android phone.
It seems my only hope is to pray for some kind of exploit that can bypass that pattern screen.
I had no idea hardware failures like that happened, I have neever heard of it before now.
Thanks though.

Yeah it never accord to me either until a laptop bios got corrupted and completely locked the machine down permanently. Fun times.
This is another reason why I always have/use an SD card as a data drive on phones.
Unlike the laptop you can't easily access the internal memory of a locked phone.
Hello,
TL;DR: I cannot unlock my Huawei P10 device, PIN code was not changed by me, but the device does not recognize it. Need to remove PIN or push forward without resetting.
Long version: I was driving with my device connected through Android Auto, Spotify was playing and I was tracking an order through Uber Eats that should arrive a bit after I got home.
After parking the vehicle, the music died, and so did the phone. After taking the cable out and trying to restart the device, it came back up.
However, even though it accepts the SIM card PIN, it does not accept the Screen unlock PIN (which is actually the same). After rebooting, it still does not accept the PIN and I'm not waiting for 1h before I can try a new code.
In order to insert the SIM PIN, I have to press OK, but the screen PIN does not, I just add the PIN and it unlocks.
Can anyone make heads or tails out of this situation and help me recover access to the smartphone without doing a factory reset and losing all the unsaved data?

Give your girlfriend her phone back if you feel insecure about your relationship it's better to talk to her about it, if you can't do that then it's best to just leave
Also if that is your phone and not your girlfriend's then you might be giving it a hard reset unless you have developer options open with enabled USB debugging and a computer nearby
