[Q] Strangest soft-brick I have ever seen. - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I will try to explain what happened in as much detail as possible, but if this is not descriptive enough feel free to ask for more information.
As the title suggests, I have soft-bricked my phone. I can not figure out what the hell is the problem here.
I have flashed a custom rom to my device, the latest viper rom to be exact. I am assuming you know what a boot loop is, but with this it is not a boot loop. It is rather a reboot loop (?). Instead of staying on the bootup, it will load into android. It will allow me to interact with settings and things for say 1-2 minutes, then it will reboot. Some times before it crashes it will show an error message of "system has stopped responding." Other times it will just *FLASH* go straight off without warning. I have tried to flash other roms, to no avail. I have tried to clear the cache, dalvic cache, entire system, all to no avail. I have zero idea of what can be causing this, and no thread or video or anything can seem to tell me.
So please. I'm coming to you as a man who has tried everything he could find for the past 3 days. I am hoping that this is a fix that I just did not see, and I am being an idiot. Never the less, please help me in fixing this problem.

Could be a bad download did you check the MD5 before flashing?
When you wiped pre-install did you wipe cache/dalvik cache/system/data or use superwipe(does the same thing just all in one session)?

I wiped cache/dalvik cache/system/data.
It was not a bad download I believe, because I tried with like 5 different roms.
Check MD5? I have no idea how to check that, so sorry about that.
Thank you so much for at least responding.

Usually not a big deal for roms but it will tell you if the MD5 matches from what was uploaded and what you downloaded
I have gotten some downloads that were a few MB's short
I use WinMD5Free http://www.winmd5.com/?rid=winmd5
Just copy the MD5 given on the file hosting site or the OP into the popup window then navigate to your download

What are the odds that OP downloaded 5 bad ROMs?
Question to Op: did you download it directly onto your phone?
I suggest not doing that. In my experience, they have resulted in bad downloads far too often. This includes ROM manager and goo.im apps.
Did you download the zip onto a PC, then transfer it to your phone via USB?

I sent it to my phone using adb sideload.
I can't even have enough time on Android to download anything.
PS: Not sure if this will help you or not, but when I open the app drawer there is nothing.
There is no pre-loaded widgets, there is no shortcuts.
Just a toolbar, a home launcher with no apps, and the settings.

IIRC sideload only wipes cache and dalvik cache

Like I have stated, yes.
I do it before flashing any rom, and if it doesn't work then I flash again with no success.

Bump ._.
I need to figure this out.

i have exactly the same issue with you. i tried to flash 4.2.2 sense and 4.1.2 sense with no success. currently i am trying to download AOKP ROM to see if that have any difference, but the download speed is poor in my place.

I doubt it man.
Nothing seems to work.
I flashed a new rom, and now I can't even load recovery or get past fastboot.
Not sure what the rom has to do with not being able to run recovery, but whatever.

As was already mentioned, have you tried to RUU back to completely stock so at least you have a baseline to work from? It honestly sounds to me like something physical may have been fried if all the roms you flash after wiping clean give the same result. If you can RUU back to stock, and still have the issue, then you may have the option of having it replaced by Sprint. Do all the roms you flash give the exact same symptoms (including the app drawer issue?)
::EDIT:: In case you aren't sure how to run an RUU, here is a link to a thread walking you through it. CLICK ME!!! ::/EDIT::

RUU doesn't seem to work for me.
I have tried to run like 10 different RUU's and none of them work.
PS: Not all the roms give the exact same issues. The viper rom does what I said. Another rom (can't remember name) did the same thing as the viper rom. ARHD removes my recovery and doesn't even let me attempt to run it. That's all the roms I have tried so far, except RUU. RUU just says incorrect device or something.
EDIT: Just flashed Cyanogen mod rom. It shows all apps, and it does everything. The only problem is that it still reboot loops. Everything works, but the phone reboots itself after 30 seconds.

Need help fixing my phone, stuck on htc screen.

Well after installing few games and reflashing my recovery after accidentally putting an older version on, I somehow in turn corrupted my boot loader, system files, data etc, so much so that my backups would boot once but never a second time, clearing my cache and dalvik only made it stuck on htc screen and afterwards it just repeatedly booted into clockwork over and over. This all happening after trying to also make a new nand backup where it hung at system for 30 minutes only to eat up my battery from 100 to 10.
it does charge, I tried using the buttons to boot into fastboot and hboot but it doesn't seem to work, but fastboot usb comes up with I turn it on while connected to the computer but sadly I keep getting error 171 when I try to RUU it.

I called sprint and was told since I have had the phone for less than a year I can get a free one from htc just need to go to sprint and let them fiddle with it, if they can fix it then it's a free repair if they can't its a free replacement, I am supposing no traces of rooting can even be seen the phone literally has nothing on it, it nuked itself while I went to take a leak, left it on updating 10 applications, backing up the others and flashing my cw3 recovery, after that it was acting up, kept booting to recovery than after flashing things and formatting it nuked everything else recovery and all.

Well, maybe you have a brick. Cool you have the warranty. And if xda can't find a way to fix it, sprint almost surely cannot, lol. I would say get the new one sent to you, that way when you send the old one back it will be too late for them to tell at you - IF they figure it out.

Yeah, I may not post alot but that's due to college and church, otherwise I would be making guides and helping out in Q&A instead of asking for it now haha, I tried so many things and nothing worked so I concluded a brick, sadly I'll never know why my phone randomly nuked itself, I didn't do anything I normally don't was so odd.
Update: they couldn't fix it so they are sending me a new phone.

System partition not booting up?

I'll try to keep this one explained simple
- Was running have boot loader unlocked and am rooted, was trickdroid
- Decided to try what else was out there for ROMS, switched to Renovate rom, was a downgrade from trickdroid in my eyes
- Decided to switch to one more rom before making the jump back to trickdroid, accidentally wiped internal storage data along with everything else
- After wasting most of my day messing with this crap, I finally got everything back to somewhat operational again
- My internal memory and Cache at one point were unmountable and read 0MB, had to do a factory reset via boot loader then a full wipe using TWRP
- Finally have trickdroid installed and its semi operational, aside from the fact that when I load it, it instantly has no service, no internet, nothing. It sends me to the launcher portion and there are no apps on there either. Shortly after it starts it will restart the device.
-After doing several restarts into recovery I have confirmed that the system partition consistently unchecks itself and I have already attempted fixing permissions several times and doing a system wipe and full ROM install again.. same issue to no avail.
- Last night I actually managed to pull up icons and programs, somehow, but again there was no system being loaded up
A little help please? I am in a state of a soft brick at this point, which is not bad considering I had a SUPER HARD brick earlier.
Help me, please. I just want to get this phone back to a functioning state!

A hard brick is unrecoverable. It means your phone is literally as responsive as a brick. I would say your phone is pretty functional if the actual OS loads.
Anyway, have you tried RUU? That usually brings everything back to normal. Be sure to use the correct one, and note that you will lose EVERYTHING. Even root.
EDIT: Try this.

So I did try using this link and downloaded the full zip file and unzipped as per instructions of QBKing77 off of youtube, then clicked setup.exe within the folder which was unzipped, but after it ran through its setup process, nothing else popped up? I tried doing it as well through hasoons all in one toolkit but while that worked, it didn't work as expected and it just stayed at the black htc screen. I'm lost at the moment.

Very true there are HTC One forums for:
International
Sprint
AT&T
T-Mobile
So it could be confusing to some
Hello from my finally unbricked one! Turns out I was having issues with the computer itself launching installshield so it wouldn't keep the factory RUU running. I did it from a different computer and it did it in stride.. I'm so happy to have this thing back. So on a sidenote I had to rwlock bootloader and then I had to reload the factory RUU.

[Q] Stuck, in many ways

Hi,
I have the non-Taiwan Butterfly S. I unlocked it via HTC Dev, and installed Clockwork Recovery.
This week, the 4.2 update was released for Singapore. It seems to have been in two parts, one which was a minor upgrade (235MB), and after that was applied, I got the option of the larger, 4.3, 700MB, OTA.
Applying the OTA seems to have left me, at boot time, with a blank screen (there is some backlight visible, after the HTC splash). I read tonight that OTA should not be used with custom recoveries, so I have (using fastboot) been able to flash the stock recovery.
I can now go into Fastboot, HBoot, and even Recovery. But I think I may no longer have an actual "system".
How can I flash either a custom ROM, or investigate the situation?
And also, after I see the Recovery screen (the battery icon), what can I do there?
Thanks,

What I would do is get TWRP Recovery (Just a matter of personal preference you can get clockwormod too) do a full wipe, clear the cache, dalvik cache and install a custom ROM hope I helped somehow
Do you still have the OTA zipfile on your device? It should be possible to force the stock recovery to install it, I just don't know how exactly. If you manage to achieve that, it should fix any corrupted files or inconsistent state, unless something went completely wrong.
Also, did the CWM recovery actually succeed to install the smaller OTA? I find that somewhat weird, but then again, I haven't tried to install OTAs using CWM, only TWRP and that did fail early.
If it was a 901S, I'd suggest installing the stock ROM from scratch, but since your phone is 901E (as far as I understand) and my stock ZIPs are for 901S, that's not guaranteed to work. Still, you might try to do that, but make sure to make a backup of the current state first, just in case it only gets worse. If it does work, it's probably going to be the easiest way out.
Another option would be to get someone else with the 901E to post a backup of their /system, I could turn that into a ZIP, which would solve your problem.

Well, to install custom ROMs, you'll have to use either TWRP or CWM, I don't know about a way to do that using stock recovery.
Ok, I did this:
Installed CWM Recovery
Flashed the Stock zip from koniiiik's archive
Rebooted successfully. Lots and lots of force closes, Everything from android.core to ...
Used Rom Manager to restore a backup made a month ago
Rebooted. All OK now
Flashed Stock Recovery (again, thanks koniiiik)
Booted. Checked OTA. Got a small update (1.x)
Applied. Rebooted, Checked OTA again
Got the 4.3 package. Applied.
All is well
Between Step #3 and #4, I got my entire backlog of SMS delivered, which I lost in the next step. But that is a small price to pay.
Thanks to all of you helped,

Would you mind uploading somewhere the /system part of that backup? I'd be interested in comparing it to the builds I have at hand.
Backup of /system, nearly stock
I say nearly stock, because it was taken after HTC Unlock, Clockwork Recovery was installed, and root flashed

I have three files in the directory:
system.ext4.tar (0B)
system.ext4.tar.a (954MB)
system.ext4.tar.b (500MB)
Is the split to avoid files greater than 1GB?

Don't worry about that, of these three, only root affects /system and it should be not too difficult to revert.

Most likely – FAT filesystems, depending on inode size and other factors, only support file sizes up to a certain limit. Sometimes it's 2 GB, sometimes 4 GB, sometimes probably as little as 1 GB.

[Q] Help! Can't reboot into new rom!

Hi, so I made the dumb mistake of deleting the OS from my HTC One (Sprint). I got the One deodexed stock Jelly Bean rom from Android Revelution HD. Sideloaded it onto the phone and went into TWRP recovery to install the zip. It says the install was successful, however, when I hit reboot, it doesn't start into the rom. It just stays on the bootloader screen and sometimes I have to fastboot flash a recovery in order to get back into TWRP. I have tried fastboot erase cache and have also tried factory resetting it and wiping cache/dalvik cache before I install. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas???

If it was me, I would just RUU and start over. Once that is done, boot it up transfer your rom over to the internal storage via usb while booted up. Then go back into fastboot, flash newest TWRP recovery and flash your rom. Also I don't think that rom supports the Sprint Variant at least that what is says under the details section. That could be part of your issues as well. I usually stay away from roms that weren't specifically made for my version but that's just me.

You're right. I checked and it's not compatible with Sprint. I downloaded the 31.6, but now I can't install it? Something about error with partitions. I've thought about doing the RUU but thought it might be more difficult.

RUU is easy. Just boot into fastboot, connect usb and launch the RUU. Once it's done then flash recovery and a different rom. It won't affect your s-off either if you are. I am currently using stock with goodies. It's a little older but it's rock solid, bloat is all gone, no blink feed and awesome battery. Will be switching once kit kat officially drops.

RUU was SO much easier! Only problem is I can't get service now? It says I have Sprint service and there are some signal bars, but it doesn't say 3G or anything. Anyone have this problem after RUU?

Try resetting the radio. ##786 then reset. You will need your MSL there are a few ways to get it. When I first activate a new phone, I always get in the habit of getting the MSL so I just have it. If you don't have it just call Sprint and ask. If you get some moron CSR just hang up and call back don't argue. I also don't like to use the word MSL when asking, I always say reset code so you can reset your phone most the time they will give it to you.

[Q] M7 Custom roms install then freeze

Got an interesting issue. Interesting as in annoying the **** outta me ha ha
My phone accepts and installs any custom ROM (Tried Maximus, ViperOne and Revolution so far) it says successfully installed, press here to reboot - all good to that point. I then reboot and it sticks at the HTC screen forever - left it overnight just in case it was doing something funky and just needed time. Some of the ROM issues I've read about suggest clearing cache etc. No luck so far.
If I then hard reboot, go to recovery and clear cache or factory reset it doesn't change the result. The only ROM that doesn't have this issue is CM 11 via their installer program.
Any ideas what I'm missing?
I thought about finding a RUU and going back to the start but of course I can't find a RUU for my area (Australia) nearest one is Asia - and I'm not sure if I can just use another RUU and cant find anything to say either way.
Can anyone give me any pointers?? Ideally I'd like to be left with the Revolution ROM BTW
Thanks
Did you try to update your custom recovery?
