So while I was sitting at school eating lunch with my friends, an idea popped into my head. We just got a brand new high school and they where installing Samsung flatscreen tvs. They plugged one in and I figured I would try to turn it on using the IR Blaster. Turns out the first code worked using the HTC stock remote app.
My friends and I died laughing, so I set it to French and changed a few other settings.
Some of you may say that this is childish but it's hilarious.
With this app: *Link Removed* You can control projectors and freeze frame them so the teacher gets extremely frustrated.
For more practical uses, I would recommend the stock HTC app as it works great for sound systems and TVs.
I would like to dedicate this thread so people can share their uses of the IR Blaster (comical or practical)
You guys...have....Samsung...tv's?!?!?
All we have are promethean boards which are basically just fancy chalkboards
My sister uses her One to change the channel on the t.v. whenever we go out to a restaurant.

^^^ Good use
Yeah we have like 20 Samsung flatscreens, every classroom has a projector for various uses, and with the projectors there are special pens that you can control the computer from the projected screen, 2 Mac computer labs, and 4 regular computer labs. And there's 2 exactly the same new highschools one north and one south of town

Lol it was the same at my middle school and highschool. My elementary school now has iPads in ever classroom. I'm like wtf. But I LOVE using the it blaster to mess with people! It also comes in handy if I'm at a party and want to turn up or down the volume

Pff, we had the big box tvs with a ****ty vcr wheeled in when we needed video, and overhead projectors if the teacher hated chalkboards. Couldn't control them with our beepers either.

Boom. Right here. And in my high school, if you had a beeper, the teachers all thought you were dealing drugs. Mine looked like this:
But I digress from the OP. I use my ir blaster when my children lose the remotes (which it seems they do daily... i don't get it)
Lmao! These were my days too. It sucked when another class beat us to the TV, and we'd miss out on movie day.

Lol
My teacher was making us take notes from a PowerPoint but every time they turned on the projector, I turned it off.
Long story short they ended up calling tech support (the library staff). All tech support did was walk in to the classroom and turn on the projector. Poof it magically worked because I didn't turn it off.
Too funny
If I was your teacher and you were dicking around on your phone during a lecture I would throw it at the wall and tell you to put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.
I love going to bars and restaurants and changing the DirecTV boxes to like Spongbob when a game is on. People get so pissed.

When it was in the Play Store, was it a paid app? I don't wanna steal anything..
Also, any idea why it got removed? Weird. I've been searching for a decent remote app for as long as I've had my One. The stock one is good, but it doesn't work with all of my devices (eg, my bluray player and dvr)
I could be doing something wrong though.

Me too! But for that reason and another: I'm part of a family plan and we all upgraded at the same time last year, but AT&T is only allowing one line to upgrade the phone. Want to switch to Verizon.
how much data had you used this month when they sent that?

I hope that's a joke. We've already established on this forum that you don't have to be a hog to get throttled. That's why this is an issue.
Why do people keep saying they are going to switch to Verizon, don't there plans have a cap to?

Yup. They do also. And they also have guidelines about upgrades, just like any other cell phone company that isn't prepaid.
I'm pretty sure everyone hates att, they are the worst service provider next to tmobile imo and I cannot wait to switch. Xda users should just get together and switch to sprint. Unlimited data and no throttling!!!

One of the very few people I know on Sprint said he hardly ever gets over 1 mbps on 3G. He did say their 4G was ok, about the same speed as my AT&T 3.5G, when he can connect to it. But it never works indoors.
Granted that is only 1 person but it must be bad because he is probably going to switch to AT&T.

I agree that sprint has horrible 3g speeds, but I would rather connect to the internet at 1 mbps than not connect at all. Just got back from the mall, and tried to get internet there many times today but couldn't because the networks must fail easiley with many people on them. I have ran into these situations 6 or 7 times over the past 2 days and it is starting to get really annoying. Sprints 4g is about 1 or 2 mbps faster than att's hspa+, and the only times I have troubble getting it inside is if it is a multiple story building your in and you are on the bottom story. And you cant beat unlimited data messages and roamiing. Oh well enoygh complaining about att, guess ill tough it out for the last 1 1/2 years of my contract

I just don't get how people can use that much data "without tethering". I tried my best one month to watch YouTube and listen to Pandora for as long as possible, I only used a little over 1G.
I might be strange for some people but I prefer to watch Netflix on my 50" LCD with DTS surround sound instead of 4.5" screen with stereo headphone.

I am never at home, and I watch a lot of hockey games live on the phone, as well as on the phone constantly watching youtube and other sites, pretty much live on the phone, and I am hoping they start to offer some 10gig plans soon instead of the 6 gig plans that they max out at here.
I never tether, and rarely download, just the odd song or two here and there and apps, but media consumption like streaming video is a huge part of my phone experience and I need a data plan to allow for this important use for me.
So AT&T announces that throttling would start October 1. Vivid wasn't released until after that date. Before signing a new contract, people already knew they could be throttled. It's been stated many times before, you still get unlimited. Nothing in the contract states at what speed you are to get your unlimited data.
I work at a place that has wifi. I have wifi at home. My phone connects to many of the free wifi places around where I live. I still manage to stay below 2GBs. I am still under the unlimited plan and have not been throttled. I stream Pandora, watch YouTube, and stream Netflix.
This Vivid forum is starting to fill up with complaints and nothing relevant to the phone itself. I would return this phone not because I can't unlock the bootloader, but just so I don't have to keep seeing so many threads with people ranting.
Dude, I use Netflix and Mt dish vip922 sling and i average 6gb a month

Which is your favorite store to buy music and why? Amazon, Google Play or iTunes? Do they let you decide in which quality do you buy your tracks? Do all of them offer digital booklets?
I want the best quality possible and to be able to copy my downloaded albums to my nexus 4 and my macbook
Thanks for the input
So it seems now all stores have DRM free tracks, which means you can put the tracks you download in any device you own :victory: now about quality:
Amazon offers uses 256kbps variable bitrate
iTunes uses 256 kbps AAC and they say now their standard is "iTunes plus" and that the old format is still on some albums/songs because the record companies dont offer apple their iTunes plus version but how can i know which albums are offered in the old format and which ones in itunes plus?
Google play uses 320 kbps files
So in short it seems that the place to get the most quality is google play, to get the best prices is amazon and the largest collection iTunes
The downside for amazon and google play is that if you want to have the digital booklets it seems you should buy your music in itunes, google play doesnt offer digital booklets whatsoever and amazon offers it in just a few albums :'(
Is it a Deja vu or have I seen this thread before?
Im writing this post because I think im being drawn to apple. I love all the features of android and rooting and all that good nerdy stuff, but music for me is huge. I think whether a lot of us want to agree on this or not, but itunes is beating google play. Googles music is not very user friendly when buying music and downloading it. You are only given 3 times to download a song from the web, and for unlimited downloading of the song you nust download your entire library with it. As for google match, it only STREAMS 320 kbs. You can't download a higher bit rate song that's been matched. Which is a big downside I don't hear anyone talking about. For itunes, you pay 25 dollars I think but at least you can download the higher bit rate. Plus, they're program for mac and windows is super easy. I think a lot of people who have android still use itunes because of this.
When I went to an apple store (against my will) I just glanced at their iphone 5 to mock it as many of us would've. When I was going through the music, I noticed it sounded and looked much better on it. Now, granted they were probably a higher bit rate, it still irritated me. I think google should get a program that can edit music and match with DOWNLOADS, because if not im afraid im going to have to go to apple. The simplicity of the music outweighs my love for android. As soon as you connect your iphone to the computer, it automatically syncs your library with itunes. No duplicates or any of that, no installing isync and spending so many unnecessary hours...

@islandjat If you are that into music, why don't you download it from iTunes and then put it on your Android. Solve the bitrate and download policy issue. For the UI and stream, Google Music is still young compared to iTunes. Either you give it time to mature or leave it. And for the "better" sounding iPhone, I have nothing to say. "Everyone's ears are different" - Apple.
I got the best if both worlds now lol. I have my awesome note 2 and I use itunes along with winamp for wireless sync. Im satisfied because I can use tuneup and I paid the 25 dollars to have the match feature. Anyone else who's reading this should do the same if thwy have had my issues. Which is the beauty of android...you get it all

I mean are they totally redoing the SDK or are they just tweaking some stuff. Well better yet do we know if google is even going to go further with the chromecast, or abandon it basically like the Nexus Q. Reader's server costs didn't outweigh the money they made from ads.
wave still exists, just not worked on by google.
the other device in the list (nexus q) was canned before it was released. It only had a few more features than a chromecast but was $400. They canceled it because no one was going to buy it.
THis device has been a huge success and google could barley keep up with sales.
mine just came in the mail today and i ordered it on 7/25/13
I am also a tad disappointed....
4 weeks in and we have seen nothing as to new app's.
With these things selling like hotcakes and being sold out everywhere, I would have thought that we would have seen something by now.
If Netflix and Google tv/movies work, what could possibly be holding up the likes of Hulu/HBO/Showtime etc?

I think they knew Netflix had to work in order to sell it. By only having to deal with one partner, they can work with them to modify the SDK pretty easily. The whole thing seems to be a beta test at this point. Once they feel it is ready, they will push it out to everyone else.

The strategy may be to release it once more devices are in the pipeline. No need to anger those waiting to get theirs even more.
Does anyone have an estimate of how many they have sold?

Leo LePorte on Twit reported that Amazon sold 700,000 of them. On the first day.

no not in total but the fact that google had to cancel the netflix offer in just a few hours or so means they sold well. Google even said it was "due to overwhelming demand."
Also the fact that places were running out of stock so fast means demand was higher than supply and if you know anything about economics you know that means its doing very well. (well because its something mass produced and intent on selling, i guess that rule wouldn't nessessarly count for some rare item)
heck some guy told me he bought 3 and sold them on craglist or something like that for like $75 each I think and he kept the netflix codes.
I can't believe you guys are already freaking out google is going to abandoned it before the final sdk is out.

Heck I went ahead and started searching with bing just in case!
Honestly at this point even if google, amazon and samsung all stopped supporting and using android it wouldn't die.
Android is pretty much here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Well I bet they are mass producing them now...its a no brainer at $35 and also at the perfect price of being an "impulse buy" my god its better than a droid 1 phone minus the screen amoung a few other things.

Is it just me, or you just as sick of the iPhone hoopla . Really, come on these idiots are lining up for the same crap, yet again... It's kinda sad really.... The Android community should really reach out to try n free these people from the constraints their suffering. We should try n make n effort to help these lost souls in their devious ways.... LOL I feel like an evangelist... DON'T SEND MONEY.... I won't accept. This is a sharing, caring community! Peace... My Android bothers..... Amen. Lmao...

I'm not going to lie, the iPhone is extremely well built, so I wouldn't call it crap. Is it essentially the same thing as the last model? Yes, but it's still a heck of a well engineered electronic device. Apple might not always be the first to do something, but when they're not the first, it usually works better than the ones that were the first.
ios7 is ruining peoples' lives, apple is dead

I think the iPhone is well built too and the new one is slick. Been hearing good things about the 64-bit dual core. Yeah, only a dual but they are saying it blazes.
Software on the other hand. Wow, take a huge chunk of features from android, screw it up and make it look like a 5year old ate too much Neapolitan ice cream and threw it back up... And you've got iOS7.

iOS market share is shrinking and Android, Windows and BB are growing. Apple will always be about hype and branding. A plastic iPhone and a gimmick fingerprint scanner won't save iOS. That being said.....

I'd say iPhone is better for people who use it phones for basic things. Like surfing, camera shooting, messaging, etc. It's also very sexy.
For every thing else, there's android.
I like how iOS7 looks. I turned off animations on my one because they were too slow. And then I tried 7 on my iPad 2. I almost threw up. Why the hell are the animations so slow?

It couldn't be that bad...
Could it? I know iOS7 completely lagified all devices that aren't current. Maybe the animations ARE the cause of the lag?

my fiancé's 4s feels slower to me. I'm not sure if it's actually slower or the animations are just slow. I generally like the OS though as it fixes a good chunk of my iOS complaints (improved multitasking, quick toggles, boringness).
I'm not an apple fan. Would never buy an iPhone but the way ios7 functions is a huge improvement over previous versions. Very smooth and fluent. I've been activating these phones all day and am very impressed. The only thing that annoys me is the theme. It's slick and all but extremely girly. A lot of business employees and business owners depend on the iPhone and are too involved to change. Apple needs theme options besides invert. one or the business people, casual people and the current for everyone else(teenage girls, moms, and flamboyant men).

I don't really have an opinion on iPhones 'cause I've never own one, but here's something funny:
Here, in Belgium, Europe, we almost never use any contracts for our phones, only for SimCards, as it's illegal to simlock devices. So we usually pay full prices for phones. And I must say, I REALLY don't see many iPhones, but we have lots of S3 and S4 for example. It's the same for computers. I don't know anyone who has a mac, I once saw one in the library, and a friend has one at his job for video editing. But that's all.
iPads are more common though. But Samsung has also a big tablet market share.
I think that's kinda funny, Android is almost everywhere around here

Hey guys, a friend sent me this and I just thought I'd share this, it is similar to that kick start (Pressy)I saw a few months back. Looks like it would be pretty cool thing to have a extra button to play around with and it is just $0.99 with a coupon. It could be a bust or really cool but for a buck I don't see why not. Check it out, I can report back once mine arrives... just wanted to post before the coupon expires. Coupon code is ikey0624 but I think it expires 6-27:

How is this a scam? I've ordered a lot from these guys and never had one issue... It's like order from China but with faster shipping
they called from bank and told me that many customers lost their money so they are blocking cards before purchase on tmart.com. Its funny because i ordered many items from similar sites (ali, dx etc) without any problem and now they blocked my card for 0.99$ :silly:

hmmm I assumed they would provide the app name with the item... I would try to see if the pressy app would work cuz that would be a win:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pressy.app&hl=en
If not I may contact their support to find out more details. I don't have mine yet.
EDIT I see that you need a code for pressy. SO what about these apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helloklick.android&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.robocatapps.thermodo&hl=en
In the description on the site, these links are posted:
1. http://www.helloklick.com/index.php/site/download
2. http://down.360safe.com/360zhijian/360zhijian_v1215.apk
3. http://www.ikeyandroid.com/www/1460810-1460810.html
Not quite sure why there's three as the links won't load for me.

The first link posted here, "Hello Klick" is the same one posted on their site first, so I would try that one.
The button works out of the box for playing pausing music.
Works for the camera app for taking pictures on a triple tap.
I've found I had to have the Pressy App installed and set it as the default search, which requires Disabling the "Google Search" feature (weird). Once Pressy was installed, my audio returns to normal operation. Because out of the box, all audio is routed to headphones. So I downloaded and installed Pressy, went through the initial setup up to the point where it is asking for a registration key. Then I reset my phone. From then on, it seemed to be functioning better.
I've gotten a few little apps to register the button press and assign an action, but it seems they conflict with Pressy.
I haven't really played with it much. I'll try those apps linked and report back any findings.
UPDATE:
Ok KLICK works pretty good. I found a good slow solid key press is really required for it to pick it up. Klick App also has to be manually running and doesn't start on startup automatically. There is also an icon in the Status Bar.
I have Single Click = Flash Light
Double Click = Camera
Triple Click = Pandora
When running Klick, it seems to work well. The Camera app will launch on a double tap and then the FIRST (only) tap will take a picture. Sequential taps don't do anything. UPDATE, seems just tapping the button will keep launching the camera app and keep taking pictures. I don't know what its really doing but I have to back out of the camera a few times. Occasionally I get a popup saying it cant launch the camera app. I wonder if the camera app is being opened within the Klick app.
When Klick is NOT running, single taps start playing my local music / pause local music.
Seems to want to still conflict with stock android controls. Occasionally the volume slider will pop up and will try to bounce up or down a notch.
All of the actions work while the phone screen is off. So right out of your pocket, you can launch stuff without unlocking first.
I wonder if we can just install Klick, set it up but delete all button assignments, hide the app, then use another Button Programmer that works better.
What ROM are you guys using to get this working? I can not get it working on Mahdi ROM

Did that too! Has yours arrived? Order fulfillment time is 7-25 days !!!!
Mine iKey came yesterday. For $1.50 incl. shipping I just couldn't resist I've played with it a little bit and then left it. I've actually ordered it for the ridiculous low price. I don't think I will use it soon

Info from Headset Button Controller author Christoph Kober:
"I just released a new version of Headset Button Controller to google play. The version 7.6 includes the pressy mode (version 7.5, which I released yesterday contained a bug). (...) As I said I don´t wont to implement such a hack for long click.
Showing a different profile icon depending on the selected profile makes sense. I will put in on my backlog ..."

For me with this app most important things are Tasker support and all apps, shortcuts available to chose as click action.
