What the heck is going on?
I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the ROM, because it did this with the factory ROM, Manila 2d and now WM6.5.
I turned the phone off, unplugged it, removed the battery. I put the battery back in, replace the cover and press the power button. Nothing happens. I plug the phone back in to the wall charger and put power, it turns on....for about 3 seconds then reboots and it would seem that it will do this for as long as I let it go. If I unplug the phone while this is going on, it will die.
The last time this happened, it took it about a day and a half to sort itself out. It almost seems like its a battery issue.
Any thoughts or ideas?
UPDATE!
I took the sim card out of the phone for a few seconds and the phone seems to be working now.... But its been up and running for about 20 minute now with no sings of acting up.

tried to charge the pda all night the light stayed orange and never turned green indicating full charge. tried hard reset and when it goes in to prepare rom it shuts off like dead battery. when i plug in the pda to charge battery and then turn on the phone it freezes on splash screen. if i turn on phone then plug in to charge it acts like i havn't pluged in charger. is it the pda or battery?
I am not 100% sure on this, but to me it sounds like the battery.. and that is a MUICH cheaper option to test out... unfortunatly you ahveto wait for shippng typicalyl unless you have a friend who has the same phone.. I got 2 backups and a stand alone charger now... The other option could be your USB port... I have not heard this specific problem with them.... but I am a PC tech and have seen very simmilar problems with laptops... Usually the first think to for is the power port... Just like out phone, if the device is not on a flat surface and such when it is plugging it, it tweaks the port and it eventualyl breaks... on laptops it is not uncommon that when plugged in, the LEF wil light up saying it is getting power to charge, but it enver charges the battery, and even sometimes can;t power up the full system.. .It sort of sounds like this is what you phone is doing as well.. .If that is the problem the stand alone charger would work (my son broke off his usb all together and now syncs via bluetooth and jsut changes batteries.. he has 3 himself as well) If you search online, you can usualyl find a kti with a battery or 2 and a charger/dockign station for under $20US total. Good luck!

tried bootloader and installed official att rom and never shut off. when it was finished with install same issues appeared. help
For anyone facing this issue I would not recommend wasting money on a new battery as this issue has been around with few users since the Kaiser "Tilt" first came out and I've never seen ANY reports that a new battery fixes this. People have bought new batteries, fully charged their battery from a docking station, tried their friends fully charged battery all with the same result. I had this power down issue a Looong time ago my first week in with the Kaiser and managed a fix and am using the same battery now. Although it seems the battery is not being fully charged it's important to leave it charging until you'd assume it's fully charged and get into bootloader mode and flash an official htc Tytn 2 rom. It should flash completely, and the fact that it does not die immediately as on normal boot indicates it is not the battery but the rom. It did take me the whole afternoon of Flashing, recharging and repeating before it finally kicked in. Also, from reading older posts, it seems most if not all users like myself fixed this by flashing the older official htc wm 6.0; worth a shot at least.

Yup, that is what I had to today (I hard reset, actually), with barely enough battery life to do this.
Then the bloody unit came up and was charging - amazing, really!
(Was using the official HTC 6.1 upgraded WindowsMobile OS)
here is my 2 cents....
I owned five Tilts, replaced four of them with warranty issues ... so i have faced this dilemma on at least two of them.
First see if the USB tongue is loose. To do this try to gently tap it with the stylus. If the tongue inside the USB port is loose then you will be facing rebooting and other issues and troubles in the future. The USB tongue gets used and jerked every time you connect your device to your PC or wired headset. If you are still under warranty and the USB connector tongue is loose I recommend returning the phone ( if you still can) and getting a replacement. There is no easy fix for a loose USB connection tongue as i have taken one apart and it is very difficult to repair or replace and very easy to mess it up further.
So, my advice to all Kaiser owners... be careful when plugging and unplugging your phones through the USB. Do it gently as the connectors are very fragile.
For those that have the above issues, I recommend using a separate battery charger tray, avoid plugging the USB as much as you can, and if you must, then administer extra care. The rebooting will stop if you plug the USB cable to the device and move it up and down a hair then holding steady. And most likely you will not get a full charge or even a partial charge. The biggest culprit to this problem is car chargers, and second, is inserting the stylus by mistake (when it is dark and hard to see) in the USB port instead of the Reset hole by accident.
Ok so this nook was bought brand new in December 2010 For my mother In-law. She hasn't used it much. So I asked if I could put Android on it? She said sure cause she hasn't used it at all. As a matter of fact the NC was totally dead when she gave it to me. So I get back to my house and put it on the stock charger. I let it charge for 2 hours. I picked it up and turn it on and all I see is this message: Battery too low to power ON. I did a search and turned up similar problems but the nc where all rooted. I'm wondering if other people have had this same problem? And what they did to solve this as it is more then likely an easy fix. A. Take it back to the store and exchange it. Or. B. Send it off for repairs. C. Someone On XDA has the answer.
Also I've done some trouble shooting like trying to reset it. Also I've used 3 Other chargers and its still not charging or turning on.
Edit: It turns on it just stays at the screen with a red battery displaying the message in the title. Also after charging for a while the screen kind of lites up like its going to turn on but only goes black after that and then comes back to the same red battery screen.

what are you charging from? are you using the stock nook cable and plug?
Yes. And charging it from the wall outlet. Did that with the stock charger. my charger from my HD2 and also tried with the charger from my vibrant. All have the same affect. It has the red battery and the messege below and it also has been a total of 6 hours of charging 2 hours each with the all the chargers.
That stinks. You may have to contact B&N for it. If your using the stock and other chargers then it must be a battery failure.

If you're using other chargers, it's possible that you've damages the usb port. The NC uses a non standard usb port, which has two stages. The first stage is standard 5 pin uusb communication, the second stage is non-standard 12 pin charging...

Non-Standard chargers...
As far as I can tell it works fine with any microusb cord.
Their charger cables break...(bend and break) very easy. I have gone through 2.
The upside is that their charger provides power far faster than the normal microusb cords.
At this point...I'm charging mine almost exclusively from my stock evo cord.
If you don't turn off the screen when charging...it may not have enough power coming in to actually build a charge without their cable.

I never used another charger besides the stock charger that came with the NC. Up until this happened all that was ever used was the stock cable for charging. I only used another charging cable once I ran into these problems cause I figured the cable was damaged. Its happened to me before with other devices. But the same results happen with every cord I use. When I plug it in it lights up and shows the red battery screen. So that tells me that the cord or USB port couldn't be the problem. Cause its clearly getting power its just not charging.

No. They sell it without one...the 8GB internal storage is enough for looooottts of books. The microsd was just a nice + for people with lots and lots of music.
I had this issue as well, but I found a fix!
No matter what I did or how long I let it charge, it would always have that red low battery icon.
What I ended up doing to fix it was opening up the back of the unit and disconnecting the battery cable from the unit. I then plugged it directly into the wall without the battery connected to see if it would boot, though I don't know if that was necessary, I don't even remember if it booted that way or not.. I think it did not.
Anyway I unplugged the power cable again, reconnected the battery, then plugged in the power cable and tried to boot and it booted up perfectly after that. The battery icon indicated 13% charge, but it quickly charged back up just fine.
FYI I left the unit in the car overnight right before this happened, and it was pretty chilly that night, 10-20 degreed Fahrenheit. I suspect that caused the issue for some reason, so I've been sure not to do so since.
P.S. I had to do a fair amount of googling around before I found good instructions on taking apart the NC. I think I had to take off the 2 screws under the SD card slot and use a butter knife to just pry the back off. It's just held in with clips and you can't tell it was opened except for the little stickers over the screw holes.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm wondering by un-pluging the battery from the nook if it resets it. Kind of like if a phone freezes or if your computer freezes and you pull the battery. Seems like a plan. Not sure if this is what I'll do as I'm sure its still under warranty. If it comes back and its not covered or B & N wont replace it I guess thats my only hope.

I had this problem too, but I'm not sure "faulty" is the right word for the cable.
My friend borrowed my nook and returned it with a dead battery (Thanks asshole). So I plugged it into my computer at work and just got the always-on low battery message. After 45 minutes I took it to my car so I wouldn't forget it. I plugged it into my USB charger in the car using a different cable. Two hours later, same state.
When I got home I pugged it into the Nook wall charger with yet another cable (not the nook's original) and got the same thing. I searched here to see if I could figure out what was going on and decided to try the original cable with the wall plug. literally two seconds after plugging it in it started booting into Froyo.
I'm sure I didn't have four "faulty" cables. I think those that are saying you should be using the original are correct. The others worked fine when the battery wasn't empty, but mine only responded to the original once it got to the point of the unending low-battery message.
Original charger / cable required with totally empty battery
Same here. With battery completely empty and non standard cable, stuck at red battery sign forever. With orginal cable, boots fine and charges.
solution I found
Have CM7 installed on SDCard, got the battery icon, even with the unit plugged into the charger with oem equipment. Held the power button 'til the unit turned off completely, removed the sdcard, rebooted. Nook booted into stock fine, turned off, re-inserted sdcard and rebooted. All is well.
I was using my Nexus 7, playing a game. It then static-screened and hissed for 2 secs and then died! It was charging through PC USB.
It won't power up anymore.
WTH?

You may have overheated it. Wait a few hours and try again. also, depending on the USB charging, the charger may not have been able to keep up with the battery drain of the game and it shut down for a low battery. Use the OEM charger whenever possible.

If the device actually made a "fizzle" sound then I recommend sending it in for a replacement. Sounds like a battery leak. Was it overclocked?

I had the same problem yesterday, my battery was very low and I was using it while plugged-in a PC USB.
I was playing reckless racing, i left it on the desk for awhile when I went back to my PC. the device was on, but all of a sudden it fizzled and static screened.
I freaked out and unplugged the USB. then the device shut-down(turns black) immediately. The device was a bit hot on the back bottom. I tried to turn it on, NO GO. I plugged it in the OEM charger, NO charging screen. tried turning on, still no go.
then i look in xda. and found out someone said to hold the power button for 30s.
So, the device was plugged in OEM charger. I sat it there for like 5 mins first. then try to do the 30s.
It boot up again on like 35, or 36 second i counted.
I bet it was a low battery problem, since charging it from a PC doesn't provide enough power.
The method solved mine, and i hope it solved yours too.
Gd luck!!

I meant to say a I heard a fizzling sound when it static screened. Almost like the sound you hear with TV static but more... fizzy? :silly:
lol
If you heard a fizzle I'd definitely still send it back in for RMA, better safe than sorry down the road.
just looping the sound file from the game before shutting down not a issue. watch that battery icon in the future.
playing nova 3 on full 1600mhz oc N7 did the same on a freeze and reset. (; have to find the settings that work right. nova 3 1500mhz with the gpu oc at 500 screams and is stable on my N7. spiderman became a fun game after the kernel flash.
Just to say it again - plugging the Nexus 7 into a PC USB port will not keep it charged during high current usage.
If you drain the battery completely - don't expect any display until you have charged it for probably an hour.
Funky noises from your game when you flatline the battery is no cause to return it.
Use a dedicated charger for game play, preferably the one that came with it.
Didn't fizzle here, just turned off and no matter how long I held power button or left charging on mains connector or on PC, the tablet was completely dead. Returned to Argos and got refund and now waiting on another Nexus 7 to be delivered but via Tesco direct this time.
Fingers crossed this one lasts a lot longer than the hour the first one did

I had this exact same problem except mine wasn't plugged into anything and my battery was not near empty. When I finally got it booted back up it was at 27% so for me it wasn't low battery. I only ever use the charger that came with it - unless I'm connecting it to my laptop for a few minutes to transfer files, etc.
This is my second Nexus 7. The first one got returned because it had problems with the touchscreen on occasion. It actually did do this static/fizzle/crash once or twice as well.
I wonder if the static/fizzle/crash issue is being addressed in hardware and/or software with a newer version of either one?
Pls tell me Asus representatives are reading these threads in xda. I can see lots of problems with the device. Google should take serious actions on this

Maybe, but I had more than a quarter of my battery left and had very similar symptoms. I think it might be related to heat generated by gaming. Maybe with low (but not out of) battery, maybe not. The touchscreen issues I experienced on my first N7 seemed to only occur after hard gaming. Maybe there's a heat dissipation issue? (Wild speculation)
Mine did exactly the same last week, thought it had died altogether but holding the power for 45 seconds sorted it.
I need help too.
My N7 turned off when the battery ran out. So i plugged to charge through PC USB and immediately when that great charger icon apear in the screen i pressed the button power, and so it go black. No more signals. Dead... No charge, no turn on anymore.
I tried to hold the power button for 30s a lot.
I opened the N7, unpluged e pluged again the battery. Nothing.
I let it charging, in the OEM charger, with OEM cable, all the night, for more than 12 hours. Nothing.
And it has a "fizzle" sound. It can be heard better when its open.
When i disconnect the battery the sound stop. If i connect the charger, even without the battery, the sound come back.
When i hold the power button for 30s the sound stop for about 3 seconds, and then restarts.
The Windows manager device recognizes the N7 as a weird "APX" (image attach).
In from Brazil, so for now will not be easy to return to google.
Any ideas?
Thx in advance
---------------------------------------
Update:
I discovered that the unit does not appear to be charging.
Before, the OEM charger became a little hot, and now nothing.
I instaled today the program "Asus AI charger" that lets you charge a ipad in USB, and the icon charging do not apear when i connect the N7, only when i connect other devices.
So mine just fizzled and died not connected to any power source. I was at 9%. It was running a bit warm but no where near relatively hot. Will update...

Pulled the battery but when I boot the screen goes on after 3 secs, stays on for 2 secs then goes into dim mode (i can see it's still on).
However my phone doesn't boot since I don't get any whatsapp messages. Normally it should boot to SIM screen but other apps should run.
X+power or M+power doesn't change much.
I'm guessing mobo/cpu fail.... any ideas?

edit: It turns on when I put in the charger without battery! Dead battery?
If you put the battery flat on a table does in spin well. Batteries bulge when they are done. The better the spin the worse it is. It's odd the behaviour that can happen with a end of life battery

Well now I'm not so sure what it is.
When I put the cable in without battery the M logo appeared and then the charge screen with a ? in the battery (because there was none)
Then I put the battery in and it started charging.
After a while I tried to turn it on but same problem - just a black screen when power it, no logo whatsoever.
Now I can't get it to work without battery either...
edit: I don't think it can be the battery, because the screen stays on (it has power apparently) and it doens't work with cable connected either
But I also don't see it being the screen as it never vibrates like it does when you boot it.
How did it just show the charge screen before and now it doesn't??
I made a vid of what happens when I power it:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22072961/Droid 3/Video0067.mp4
The Droid 3 and Bionic are similar phones, and it turns out that the Bionic will not boot up without a battery - it will hang at the Moto logo even if plugged in. See this thread at androidforums.com: http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...via-adb-unable-boot-up-phone.html#post5463741
So, it may be that you just need a good battery pack in order to get to Recovery/Bootloader/Fastboot etc. if the phone will not start or start to Safestrap.

I tried at least 30x now no difference
The worst part is using my Samsung Jet "Smarter than a smartphone". Which isn't even close to a smartphone because it doesn't have any of the OSes = no apps
In my XT860 in its power when it reaches the lockscreen, restarts or shuts.
When I put it to charge my battery shows 0% and charging. When I go to Safestrap-after several attempts-, battery shows 99% or sometimes 80%.
I think the cpu wants to leave the world of technology :crying:
edit: yeah, now i get infinite bootloops in the M DualCore LOL

I tried the stock cable that came with my phone (USB) but nothing happens. Screen doesn't even go on.
The light next to the microUSB does go on.
But my phone has never booted with USB (0.5A). When my battery was 0% I always needed a socket charger because it wouldn't go on and charge with USB
When I then insert battery and try again with stock cable same happens as in the video

Ah I see. Well I'm not in the US so getting one would be a PITA
I'm gonna try my spare battery (original battery) tomorrow. It that doesn't work it must be hardware related because I haven't flashed or done anything to it so it's not softbricked or something.
edit: it team blackhat do send to europe? How would this be different from trying another (working) battery?
Try cutting a USB cable open, hook the red wire to the + of the battery and - to the black and let it charge that way. Also, do you have any MicroUSB charger? I have one for a BB Bold I used to have that delivers I think 1.25A and it could charge my phone from dead (obviously not now with the flex cable having a rip in it).

The little light next to the USB port is the 'It's still alive" light that Moto put in when the battery is completely dead. It's to let you know that the phone *is* charging, just not high enough to boot the phone (i.e. when you let the battery completely die).
WHY they did not make it a standard charging light (like the D1 and D2) I don't know, but that's the only time it comes on. A quick flicker on USB plugin, or when the battery is dead. The light goes out when it gets enough power to boot up.

Well, it's not charging because there's no battery , the light it still on
I really dont see how its the battery because when I put it in without cable the screen turns on and stays on for as long as I keep the battery in. So it HAS power. Today I'm getting my spare battery and we'll see I guess..... don't have my hopes up
My daughters D3 was doing the same thing,me being not ready to dig into a phone yet ,took to a local repair shop, they checked it out and found it had a bad LCD,should get back Friday, sorry for the bad news, just thought you would like some insight.

Thanks. But should it turn on when the LCD is bad? It doesn't even boot else It would vibrate once.
Can anyone confirm that the phone should boot when I remove the LCD alltogether? Else it might be a bad LCD or loose connector
My XZ died yesterday - I was not able to switch it on.
Pressing Vol+ and power helped and phone switched on again.
WTF? Anyone experienced similar issue?

Yep. It happens when you switch it off and try to turn it on too quickly. Can be fixed with a cold reset, power + vol up.
mines died this morning what was the cause of this
I had Qualcomm Battery tool installed.
Now I have removed it so will see if the problem will reoccur
It happened to me 2 times already. Both times when I was playing with some apps. It must be a software issue.
Mine SGS2 did that too, on some leaked firmware. Had to take out the battery, then.
I just encountered my 3rd instance of this problem... and it's bugging me!
The phone is "alive", but it does not notify you nor wake up. When you call it, there will be a ringing tone, but your phone will not sound nor wake up.
For my third instance, I had a message come in which I did not attend to. My phone died with the LED still blinking (via lightFlow).
So.. do you guys have lightFlow installed too?
I would return the device so Sony is aware of this issue.
Indeed does not sound normal.
Fooled around quite a bit with my Z and did not run into these problems.
Perhaps sending it back while you still can would not be a bad idea.
Just make sure it is not an app causing this before doing so.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Xperia Z Dead
Bought my Xperia Z a week ago and was thrilled with it until it just died yesterday for no reason. Symptoms: battery has drained withing 6-7 hours after full charging, phone was quite hot although no heavy apps running. After full battery discharge it just simply would not charge or react to any action: power button, power button + volume up key: both do not work however long I press them. Dont know what to do, so frustrating!!. Do not want to switch back to iPhone....
Any ideas except than just returning it back (got it in Moscow, while I was travelling for a short trip, would need to travel all the way there again and not sure if they accept returns or exchanges...) ??

I do not think you should discharge the battery 100%.
Infact, I always wait for it to go to 4% a 5% and then charge it.
Did so with my Xperia Play for almost 2 years and the battery seems to be ok still.
If you still can not turn on your phone:
- Plug in the AC adapter using the wall socket and wait for a while.
(I can remember reading somewhere that some devices refuse to charge via USB using your PC if the battery is 100% depleted.)
Hope this helps.
Kind regards, Stefan.

It has been left there with charger for a couple of days now, used both original sony charger and some other mini-USB i have for a different phone - nothing happens unfortunately
That is a serious bummer!
- Does the RED charging led go on when plugging in charger using wall socket?
- Sounds stupid, but did you try another wall socket and leave it to charge?
- Did you try to remove the USB cable from the wallsocket adapter and plug it back in?
(If the USB bit is not plugged in correctly it will not charge aswell, had this with my phone yesterday.)
Kind regards, Stefan.

No, no lights go on, neither RED or any other colors. Charger is 100% fine - it charges a different phone (Samsung S8300) no problem. So it is defenately a problem with the phone.
Same problem. No charging, Hard reset doesn't work.
My girlfriend XZ white died today "power + vol up" helped. My XZ black didn't have this issue yet.
The Xperia U of my girlfriend had this same issue, and it's related to software. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is return your phone and get another.
Because on this state, the phone doesn't even connect in flashmode or fastboot mode.
It seems to be some Sony problem, so my advice is that you don't leave your phone get 0℅ battery for the first months.
I seriously doubt this is related to the battery level being low.
Mine died 3 times and battery was close to full.
Hell.. the last time it died (this morning) was while it was charging in the dock!!
Sony ought to do something about this!
Here's a related post in Sony's post. Maybe make some noise there as well..?

Mine died 2 times within 2 days I got it. The sleeping error which can be solved by holding all buttons for 3 seconds. I then took it off stamina mode and hadn't had a problem so far 2 days later.

I don't think you have to go to Moscow. Go to the nearest Sony service center, and they'll repair or replace it. if it's unbranded you shouldn't have a problem at all. (Unless you've voided the warranty - box and papers are probably needed.
I did the same with my Arc S which I bought in Poland. (I live in sweden)

How do you know it's a solution? Not seeing the problem for the next 2 days doesn't mean much. I saw the problem after a gap of over 3 days.
And to revive it, just VolUp and Power button is enough.
Stamina? I've never used stamina before.. so you can rule that out.
