Hello,
First: I know these problems have been reported before, but to no avail AFAIK...
So, here's my problem:
My girlfriend's SGS 9000 (International Version) got stuck in a boot loop after randomingly crashing (running CM 9).
The recovery-mode key combination does not work, but I can enter Download Mode.
The problem is now: KIES (latest version) and ODIN won't detect the phone (tried v 1.85 and 1.83) at all. Heimdall Frontend (v 1.3.2) says "Device Detected" but if I try flashing it aborts with
Uploading PIT
ERROR: Failed to send file part packet!
PIT upload failed!
Ending session...
ERROR: Failed to send end session packet!
Heimdall crashed!
(see screenshot attached)
In the utilities section when I try to download a PIT it gives this Output:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to retrieve config descriptor
(see screenshot attached)
I've reinstalled the Windows drivers (I'm on Windows 7) several times. I've tried having the latest KIES installed (but not running in the background, of course), I've tried just installing the "naked" driver (from the Samsung website). All to the same result:
Windows detects the device (as "Gadget Serial", driver by "Samsung Electronics Co Ltd), it won't show up as a mass storage device though.
ODIN and KIES do not detect the device at all, Heimdall "detects" the device but can not upload anything or "retrieve config descriptor" for PIT Download.
I've tried several USB-cables (including the original Samsung one) and USB-ports. They all work perfectly fine with my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7.
So, please, am I just missing something very obvious here or is there really no help for this semi-bricked thing?
Thanks in Advance!

Can't remember, which one ICS ROM I used before, but I got this problem too. To solve it I used old Heimdall v1.1 + zadig to install the latest stock firmware

most solutions listed here and heimdal 1.3.2 had some issues, so try earlier versions . best would be to test on another PC or better still lap top and odin3 for flashing , preferably not win 7, 64 bit or win 8

@diotallevisheir in Odin is rule-of-thumb that you must flash PIT file if you have checked re-partition. Use now your Odin 1.83 and flash again the stock ROM under PDA, but download also PIT file for i9000 and choose it under PIT (Odin will check re-partition then by default) file name ends with 512.tar
It should unbrick it.
And @xsenman is right, the flashing would have more chances to be successful if you would use a laptop with WinXP 32-bit
thank you very much, sir!

What can I say, apart from thank you a 1000 times! :good::good::good:
This one actually worked!
Used the "restore.bat" and "Flash without repartition" and it just worked! And nothing else did!
You just saved me from a lot of trouble and my gf says thanks as well

Hello everyone,
i've got a European Samsung Galaxy S with this 2.1 firmware and it's working with no problems:
PDA I9000XWJM2
PHONE I9000XXJM1
CSC I9000NEEJM1
i tried to update my phone to Android 2.2 via Kies but my phone just doesn't get recognized by the computer in Kies Mode or MTP mode, i have the latest version of Kies 1.5.3
and i even tried to download many drivers packages or manually extract the drivers from Kies and manually install it via device manager.. also all of this doesn't work!
i noticed something weird with my phone when it connects to Kies and the computer is trying to install drivers, the blue screen of the USB cable on the phone keeps disappearing and reappearing repeatedly and i hear a sound of plugging and unplugging from the computer.. it keeps doing so in MTP mode and kies mode, but not in USB mass storage mode as it works normal..
i thought even if i could get the driver to work my phone maybe has an issue with it's original firmware or something..
note that i haven't modded this firmware or rooted it before, this is what came with the phone..
another thing i've tried to enable the 3 button fix the download mode.. but it needs a rooted phone, so again tried to root with the SuperOneClick it works with some command lines appear but it just keeps looping through them and connect and disconnect forever..
i even want to make the lag fix but i can't too..
i'm very frustrated and i'm thinking to sell the phone as i can't do anything with it i can't upgrade it or even fix the lag, the phone is working but doesn't like to be connected to the computer!
...
i would be thankful for your advices
is my phone has a fixable issue or it's useless..
I would love to he anr to this. I am on the same boat.
Few things you could try...for USB disconnects!
1. Uninstall previous Drivers and Reinstall with new Samsung Drivers
2. Go to Device Manager in Windows (presuming you are using Windows)
Uninstall all The USB Root HUB's and everything else under the tab if you can, dont worry Windows will install again on startup
Once all is uninstalled ..Reboot!
3. Try a different cable
Hope some of this helps
Did you tried this

Normal Odin detect the phone and works fine, same for Heimdall(I ended up using exodin and heimdall-ing them, since I have no idea which file goes into which tar.md5 for odin). Any ideas?

Yes. If I switch to the Samsung driver, Odin works fine(normal Odin). If I switched to WinUSB/Heimdall Driver, Heimdall works fine, except for the get .PIT function.
okay, so put a tar file in the pda slot in normal odin 1.85. the other odin 3 standalone odin doesn't work with captivate. at least thats what i recall reading. I use 1.85 and never had trouble getting it to see cappy, including labels on the boxes.
it looks like you are running 1.81 and something in your PC setup is preventing the labels from something. try odin 1.85.

I get blank boxes in Odin when I forget to run it as Administrator. My PC is running Windows 7.

Is there a OneClick version of 1.85/Anyway to make a 1.85 OneClick? I can flash em with Heimdall, but its a little annoying compared to click and do something else for 10 minutes. 1.85 normal odins see it fine, I used it to flash the CWM kernel.
@Val D. Tried it all, Run as Admin, compatibility mode XP.
Guys I am in serious trouble here.
I am familiar with the flashing procedures and done it a lot of times with diff Roms.
I tried flashing my phone with Atrix Mod. The phone was hung up in startup display for a long time so i removed the battery and tried to restart.
But the phone would not start and neither am I able to access Recovery or Download mode. The phone is not detected in Odin.
As seen in several threads/advice i tried changing cable/ using diff PC & USB Ports but nothing helped.
The Recovery key combo shows something in Korean which I cannot read. The dowlnoad mode combo shows another korean lettering.
I will attach both for the members.
Please help as to how to restore it. If I can get it detected in Odin I can get it back up & running.

Solved....
Guys thanks a lot for the replies and suggestions.
Finally managed to solve it.
Here is how it happened...
1. Connected phone in download mode...(not detected in Odin)
2. Went to Device manager in Control Panel.
It showed as a unknown device as serial gadget something...
3. Right Clicked on it. No driver was present. Clicked on Update Driver.
4. Windows searched on the net and installed some driver.
5. After driver installation the connected phone was showing as Samsung Modem in USB Connections.
6. And it was detected in Odin....
Rest is all history

Hello.
Tried to install ClockworkMOD but ended up with a pretty bad mess.
From the day i bought this phone, i never had a download or recovery mode (none of the key combinations worked).
Only way i got it to download was adb. Once in download mode used odin (from manual) but after the download complete phone rebooted and i ended up with this brick i cant even use to build some walls.
Now when i connect the USB cable my computer sees only Media device and 2 SD card appare in My Computer but can't access them.
If i turn on the phone first and then plug in cable the Media device keeps popping on and off and phone just reboots constantly (see video).
Is the only way to do thing the hardware mod (jTag). Remind you: Never had a recovery or download mode on this phone.
And i'm still confused: is this the Samsung I9000 or the Korean M110S?
SSN tells me it's M110S korean but phone itself looks exactly like i9000 and the piece on top of the sim card is plastic (not metal) like described in one thread.
#IMEI: 354781/04/570596/6 <-Fixed

Is there anything i can to do fix this? Will jTag help or no?

the IMEI you gave, does not check out, so read this

#IMEI: 354781/04/570596/6 //sry had one little 7 more that's why it didn't work. i had 3547781/
Well i checked from the imei.info link that was on the other thread and it gave me this: imei.info/?imei=354781045705966
so it's I9000 Galaxy S
i try to read other threads for more info.

ok, so follow the tutorial and flash a gingerbread ROM (JVU attached) or a rescue kit with PIT file and repartition ticked as guided, also remove all baggage like SIM card and Ext SD card. you should format your Internal SD card but since you cannot boot, lets hope it works...read the unbricking guides in the second post too.
take note of all errors appearing on screen, if possible take snap shot of it, I can oly get back to you tomorrow, as its time for me to quit. Good night.

Thank's for the effort but... you didn't see the videos from my dropbox?
No normal PC connection what so ever. I9000 shows up in device manager as Removable device and My computer as 2 SD Cards.
ADB says: No device found and neither the odin sees the phone.
Since the only thing i tried to install was ClockworkMOD i cant imagine what i was doing wrong.
Followed a tutorial that sayed to use adb to get download mode (that worked since i have the stock rom without combo button) and use Odin: Auto Reboot ticked and F. Reset ticked. All others unticked.
Chose a PDA file and click start. So phone was downloading and then reboot. Odin says OK and all green. And then was this. Phone never got out from the constant reboot mode. (i try to find the manual i used).
//Additional info: Tutorial and files i used http://www.androible.com/root-install-clockworkmod-recovery-galaxy-s-gt-i9000
So again in the other words: I have tried linux and windows. Different computers and still all they see is Removable device (2 drives) and that's it.
adb wont connect to phone and neither any others.
Read a lot: Shall i continue with the internal storage fix maby? Messed partition somehow?
I'm unable to flash anything on this phone since no combo download mode (Thank's to the stock 2.1 update1)
Oh yeah. Almost forgot: When i remove the battery to force off my phone. Reinsert the battery. Now when i put the charger on and try to charge the phone i still get the same screen on my phone as on video 2. It's not showing me th enormal charging icon (aka big battery filling up) just the frozen ring in the middle of the screen what will dissapare after i remove the cable in about a minute.
Shall i go with this? http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8726-sgs-i9000-unbrickable-mod/

yes, saw it and noted it and was hoping you had flashed a ROM with the CWM you had tried sucessfully., which seems not the case.
your problem is there because
1) you had a JM1 ROM on your i9000 ( which is the initial realese without recovery or download function, you only need to use KIES or ADB or USB JIG to update this to Gingerbread 2.3.6 and would not have any problems)
2) But you flashed a CWM, what version? as 2.1 (JM1) does not have a working CWM ( so your phone cannot boot)
How to solve:
you use USB JIG ( about a few dollars to less tan a dollar in ebay) to get download mode or you try methods in

which would be impossible if it is using JM1 ROM, ( only KIES, ADB and USB JIG is for sure to connect) But give the battery pull method a try. or install KIES older version and try, easiest would be buy or borrow the USB JIG.
Once you have download mode, you can flash the Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM package to solve your problem as given in earlier tutorial.

Hey All,
My niece was using my phone, and when I got it back, it started to just stay in on the Samsung logo screen. I let the battery die, and now it is stuck on the screen that says "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software.
I downloaded the Smart Switch software, but didn't really get anywhere with it.
I then came across Odin, which seemed more promising. I'm using a Galaxy S10 SM-G973W. I am from Canada, and got the phone through Fido. I searched for the firmware to use, which I got from sammobile. After a few attempts at refreshing the FW, I am getting a failed message from Odin. I've attached the log messages from Odin. It says FAIL right after storsec.mbn. The version of Odin I've got is 3.14, and the PDA of the firmware I am using is G973WVLS4ETK1.
I've read online that trying a different FW might help. I am using the latest Fido one from sammobile.com.
My phone is completely useless right now, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

A few more pieces of information that I have checked and tried.
1. Reinstalled drivers using Smart Switch.
2. Using the factory Samsung USB Cable, and have tried other cables.
3. Tried using two different computers. One is my main PC with two USB ports connected for a keyboard and mouse. The other is a laptop, where only my phone was connected.
4. Tried USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 on my main PC. My laptop only has USB 3.0 ports.
I have been reading some stuff about a PIT file that I might be able to utilize. I tried to extract it from the CSC file, but it says I need a password. I extracted the HOME CSC file, but no .PIT file showed up.
Another update, I've tried using Odin 3.14.4, and used Frija to get the firmware, but still not working. I am getting the same messages in the Odin log, as above.
I'm thinking of rooting the phone using TWRP. I have the recovery file, which I think I should be using, that is
twrp-3.5.0_9-0-beyond1qlte.img.tar
I have the Samsung S10 Snapdragon, so that appears to the be correct file. Then I load that file into the AP slot within Odin. I click start, then reboot the device into recovery mode. Is there anything I am supposed to do, once the phone is in recovery mode?
Is there anything else to know when using TWRP?
Thanks.
Would it be possible for one of the mods to post this into the questions and answers area? I think this is the wrong spot for this. I'm hoping to get some responses there.
Thanks!
