[Q] Bricked? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
Tried to install ClockworkMOD but ended up with a pretty bad mess.
From the day i bought this phone, i never had a download or recovery mode (none of the key combinations worked).
Only way i got it to download was adb. Once in download mode used odin (from manual) but after the download complete phone rebooted and i ended up with this brick i cant even use to build some walls.
Now when i connect the USB cable my computer sees only Media device and 2 SD card appare in My Computer but can't access them.
If i turn on the phone first and then plug in cable the Media device keeps popping on and off and phone just reboots constantly (see video).
Is the only way to do thing the hardware mod (jTag). Remind you: Never had a recovery or download mode on this phone.
And i'm still confused: is this the Samsung I9000 or the Korean M110S?
SSN tells me it's M110S korean but phone itself looks exactly like i9000 and the piece on top of the sim card is plastic (not metal) like described in one thread.
#IMEI: 354781/04/570596/6 <-Fixed

SSN: -I9000GSMH
FCC ID: A3LGTI9000
You can see the videos here. dropbox.com/sh/23vkbp6pudepahe/7yna5YNM0K
Is there anything i can to do fix this? Will jTag help or no?

the IMEI you gave, does not check out, so read this

#IMEI: 354781/04/570596/6 //sry had one little 7 more that's why it didn't work. i had 3547781/
Well i checked from the imei.info link that was on the other thread and it gave me this: imei.info/?imei=354781045705966
so it's I9000 Galaxy S
i try to read other threads for more info.

ok, so follow the tutorial and flash a gingerbread ROM (JVU attached) or a rescue kit with PIT file and repartition ticked as guided, also remove all baggage like SIM card and Ext SD card. you should format your Internal SD card but since you cannot boot, lets hope it works...read the unbricking guides in the second post too.
take note of all errors appearing on screen, if possible take snap shot of it, I can oly get back to you tomorrow, as its time for me to quit. Good night.

Thank's for the effort but... you didn't see the videos from my dropbox?
No normal PC connection what so ever. I9000 shows up in device manager as Removable device and My computer as 2 SD Cards.
ADB says: No device found and neither the odin sees the phone.
Since the only thing i tried to install was ClockworkMOD i cant imagine what i was doing wrong.
Followed a tutorial that sayed to use adb to get download mode (that worked since i have the stock rom without combo button) and use Odin: Auto Reboot ticked and F. Reset ticked. All others unticked.
Chose a PDA file and click start. So phone was downloading and then reboot. Odin says OK and all green. And then was this. Phone never got out from the constant reboot mode. (i try to find the manual i used).
//Additional info: Tutorial and files i used http://www.androible.com/root-install-clockworkmod-recovery-galaxy-s-gt-i9000
So again in the other words: I have tried linux and windows. Different computers and still all they see is Removable device (2 drives) and that's it.
adb wont connect to phone and neither any others.
Read a lot: Shall i continue with the internal storage fix maby? Messed partition somehow?
I'm unable to flash anything on this phone since no combo download mode (Thank's to the stock 2.1 update1)
Oh yeah. Almost forgot: When i remove the battery to force off my phone. Reinsert the battery. Now when i put the charger on and try to charge the phone i still get the same screen on my phone as on video 2. It's not showing me th enormal charging icon (aka big battery filling up) just the frozen ring in the middle of the screen what will dissapare after i remove the cable in about a minute.
Shall i go with this? http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8726-sgs-i9000-unbrickable-mod/

yes, saw it and noted it and was hoping you had flashed a ROM with the CWM you had tried sucessfully., which seems not the case.
your problem is there because
1) you had a JM1 ROM on your i9000 ( which is the initial realese without recovery or download function, you only need to use KIES or ADB or USB JIG to update this to Gingerbread 2.3.6 and would not have any problems)
2) But you flashed a CWM, what version? as 2.1 (JM1) does not have a working CWM ( so your phone cannot boot)
How to solve:
you use USB JIG ( about a few dollars to less tan a dollar in ebay) to get download mode or you try methods in

which would be impossible if it is using JM1 ROM, ( only KIES, ADB and USB JIG is for sure to connect) But give the battery pull method a try. or install KIES older version and try, easiest would be buy or borrow the USB JIG.
Once you have download mode, you can flash the Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM package to solve your problem as given in earlier tutorial.

USB not working but system is alive - how to flash?

Hey guys,
I got a SGS I9000 here from a friend of mine who got it from egay (stupid, but nvm) and I try to fix the device but till now I was not lucky.
I want to upgrade to a newer / higher version but the "faulty" USB makes it very difficult.
Here are the facts:
- The device is running 2.3.3 Gingerbread
- Device Information: GT-I9000HKYDBT + PDA: I9000XWJVI , PHONE: I9000XXJVO, CSC: I9000DBTJV2
- Charging via USB does work, data connection does not work
- Entering Recovery Mode works
- CWM is not installed
- Samsung Kies is installed
- Entering Download Mode works
- External micro-SD Cards are being recognized at Android
- If I connect the device in Windows or Download Mode, the message "USB-Device was not recognized" comes up
What I`ve tried till now:
- three different micro-USB cables (original Samsung, HTC and Motorola)
- two different PCs with Kies installed and not installed
- Tried to flash via Recovery Mode but nothing is shown on the "external SD", even after renaming to update.zip
- Managed to copy files into internal flash but since the "original" Recovery Mode seems to have a verification, the flash process aborts either with
"E:signature verification failed" or "E:failed to verify whole-file signature"
- Odin of course but USB data does not work unfortunately so Odin as well
So the big question for me is:
Is there ANY chance to root/flash the device with the actual difficulties?
Any help or hints are highly appreciated.
Cheers

you may have to try all these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571 But first break that cycle by removing battery and reinsert after a few min and check phone connection or Mobile Odin is another option
email the recovery file to yourself or upload to dropbox. then download to your phone and flash away!
Don't forget to thoroughly clean your micro usb connector. I once had the same issue with my sgs. Different cables or drivers didn't work. I was about to give up on it, but then fixed it by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and very tiny dentaid toothbrushes.
Afterwards it worked like a charm. Worth giving a shot, since these connectors collect a lot of dust/dirt over time.

Thanks for your fast reply.
I did mention this thread yesterday but after installing all different drivers, switching of the PC completely and disconnecting all devices, turning BT ON/OFF, switching between Dev Mode and MSD I'm at the same position as before.
Doesn't matter which cable I use, I just get always the same fking message about Device is not being recognized.
In the meantime, I got a 2nd SGS from a friend of mine which works perfectly after connecting the device with my PC.
It starts immediately with the driver installation and is ready in couple of seconds.
I also tried to put the cable carefully into the USB but it doesn't help either.
Any other suggestions?

That would mean, its your USB slot on the phone, that needs a solution, either you have to examine it very closely for damage to resolve it or its internal and you may have to change it.
hey
can u do to download mode??
if u can then upgrade using Odin...
And the uUSB issues cam with my SGS too,but after flashing the firwmare via odin there was no issues...i flashed 2.3.6 ValuePack..
U too can give it a shot..

Well, as told above, I can enter download mode but USB DATA connection does not work!
So from my understanding, Odin only works if there's a valid connection, otherwise I could flash anything and would not have the problem
Mobile Odin does not work due to the root restriction.
Is there any way to flash another ROM or get the the device rooted with these restrictions?
Stuck on First Screen
Well this is not an answer to the problem. Well am having the same problem as you, just mine is more complicated.
I managed to root using Z4root by copying the APK file on external sd .
I got cmw and entered recovery.
I updated using the CM10-unofficial rom that is in the development forum
I restored the nand that i did in recovery and now the phone is frozen (Stuck) on the first boot screen (Galaxy S GT-i9000 SCREEN)
Now I can go to Download mode but I can't go to recovery mode.
Let me remind you that my USB data connection is not working.
So now I am looking for a solution that would permit me to flash without USB or allow me to go to recovery mode.
Or a tutorial on how to change the usb port myself.
Thanks in advance.

As long as you can get to download mode, flashing should solve your problem after you resolve the USB problem , which can be due a number of issues.
Somehow ROM changes and bad flashes, may have pin configuration changes on the phone, (just like changes in combo key functions when you use different ROM) ...so driver changes works for some
So you may have to try all these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571 options to get your USB connection back. But first break that cycle by removing battery and reinsert after a few min and check phone connection , and try those options.

Sorry to repeat my comment again, but if all these drivers aren't working for you, you should check your micro-usb connector. I'm pretty sure the connector is the issue here.
Have you tried cleaning the micro-usb connector on your phone? Don't just blow the dust out or clean it a bit with some paper, but go for a complete and thorough cleaning solution.
Get yourself some dentaid toothbrushes. Get a few sizes. You can get these at your local pharmacy.

Get some Cleaning / Rubbing Alcohol. You can find this at a handyman store or your local pharmacy should have this as well.
Dip the toothbrush with some rubbing alcohol. The toothbrush should be a bit moist but not dripping wet.
Start cleaning the connector. You can apply some pressure to clean everything.
If this doesn't work, no harm done. These things are quite cheap and rubbing alcohol and these dentaid toothbrushes come in handy when other electronics go bust.
Honestly, just try it! People always dismiss this solution attempt as a last resort but it's usually the problem fixer.
I fixed mine that had the same problem with a similar technique

[Q] Bootloop, no Recovery Mode, phone not detected in Download Mode

Hello,
First: I know these problems have been reported before, but to no avail AFAIK...
So, here's my problem:
My girlfriend's SGS 9000 (International Version) got stuck in a boot loop after randomingly crashing (running CM 9).
The recovery-mode key combination does not work, but I can enter Download Mode.
The problem is now: KIES (latest version) and ODIN won't detect the phone (tried v 1.85 and 1.83) at all. Heimdall Frontend (v 1.3.2) says "Device Detected" but if I try flashing it aborts with
Uploading PIT
ERROR: Failed to send file part packet!
PIT upload failed!
Ending session...
ERROR: Failed to send end session packet!
Heimdall crashed!
(see screenshot attached)
In the utilities section when I try to download a PIT it gives this Output:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to retrieve config descriptor
(see screenshot attached)
I've reinstalled the Windows drivers (I'm on Windows 7) several times. I've tried having the latest KIES installed (but not running in the background, of course), I've tried just installing the "naked" driver (from the Samsung website). All to the same result:
Windows detects the device (as "Gadget Serial", driver by "Samsung Electronics Co Ltd), it won't show up as a mass storage device though.
ODIN and KIES do not detect the device at all, Heimdall "detects" the device but can not upload anything or "retrieve config descriptor" for PIT Download.
I've tried several USB-cables (including the original Samsung one) and USB-ports. They all work perfectly fine with my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7.
So, please, am I just missing something very obvious here or is there really no help for this semi-bricked thing?
Thanks in Advance!

most solutions listed here and heimdal 1.3.2 had some issues, so try earlier versions . best would be to test on another PC or better still lap top and odin3 for flashing , preferably not win 7, 64 bit or win 8

@diotallevisheir in Odin is rule-of-thumb that you must flash PIT file if you have checked re-partition. Use now your Odin 1.83 and flash again the stock ROM under PDA, but download also PIT file for i9000 and choose it under PIT (Odin will check re-partition then by default) file name ends with 512.tar
It should unbrick it.
And @xsenman is right, the flashing would have more chances to be successful if you would use a laptop with WinXP 32-bit
thank you very much, sir!

Need help for SHW-M110S

Guys I am in serious trouble here.
I am familiar with the flashing procedures and done it a lot of times with diff Roms.
I tried flashing my phone with Atrix Mod. The phone was hung up in startup display for a long time so i removed the battery and tried to restart.
But the phone would not start and neither am I able to access Recovery or Download mode. The phone is not detected in Odin.
As seen in several threads/advice i tried changing cable/ using diff PC & USB Ports but nothing helped.
The Recovery key combo shows something in Korean which I cannot read. The dowlnoad mode combo shows another korean lettering.
I will attach both for the members.
Please help as to how to restore it. If I can get it detected in Odin I can get it back up & running.

Solved....
Guys thanks a lot for the replies and suggestions.
Finally managed to solve it.
Here is how it happened...
1. Connected phone in download mode...(not detected in Odin)
2. Went to Device manager in Control Panel.
It showed as a unknown device as serial gadget something...
3. Right Clicked on it. No driver was present. Clicked on Update Driver.
4. Windows searched on the net and installed some driver.
5. After driver installation the connected phone was showing as Samsung Modem in USB Connections.
6. And it was detected in Odin....
Rest is all history

i meant what odin sayd when you flashed the firmware, and as i see you dont have the normal s3 mini,
which firmware did you flashed?
you can try a jig dongle to get into download mode,
you can buy one (search ebay or amazon or something else for that)
or you can build one yourself, if you know how to sold (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/how-to-diy-download-mode-jig-dongle-t2121306)
if that wont help your phone is full bricked, only a JTAG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Test_Action_Group) can save it (they sold a device on your phones motherboard to acces the emmc (the internal memory of your phone)
if youre from germany i can recommend you this guy which once saved my phone: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Samsung-Boot...tur-/221200788763?pt=PDAs&hash=item3380982d1b
