I got HTC One, thinking it was Google Play edition, but it turns out it was just flashed with GE ROM. Now tried to unlock the SIM but it doesn't work. I've tried doing the RUU, but the it always comes back with 170 Error that it can't connect to the phone.
The phone is s-off, unlocked has GOOGL001 CID.
What can I do to make it go to original ROM, and how to find out what model is it? I assume t-mobile because when i put my at&t sim it says "locked."

The L means lte, same as mine from Rogers and the model id is also the same. Don't think that model id means much though because you can change it. Any RUU should work with s-off right? How are you trying to sim unlock?

The services online that do unlocking. I did t-mobile htc one unlock and I got a code but it didn't work.
I can't ask the person who sold me the phone anymore so I have no idea where it came from.

Wish I had a better idea but I think you'll just have to try sim's until one works.
Reporting you to the authorities. Sim unlocking is illegal. Lol Jk. That needs to get fixed.

Since you're S-Off, you could write SuperCID (fastboot oem writecid 11111111) and then download CIDGetter from Google Play. When CIDGetter sees SuperCID, it will load your CID from a second location which should be your original CID.

Thank you! I got the app. It doesn't show any CID on top, which means it's super CID? But in the text later on there's a line that shows GOOGL001, BS_US001. So I have no idea why the sim is locked. And I can't use the t-mobile RUU because I just get error 170, USB not connected, but it is recognized by the PC.
That CID is the unlocked version (bu-us001). There are a couple other things that can give you a hint.
Does the OEM box have any carrier logos on it? This would be on the top right corner of the front of the box. Is there a carrier logo on the back of the phone.
If your answers are no, it is the unlocked version whose Cid is bu-us001 and the model number is PN07120.
If the Google logo is on the front of the box in the top right corner, it is a Google edition.
If it is unlocked, not sure why it is not working for you.

If you change to SuperCID using fastboot:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Then CIDGetter will show the original CID at the top. (nevermind what it says in the text)
You can always go back to Google Edition by
fastboot oem writecid GOOGL001
AS LONG AS YOU STAY S-OFF.
Also, once you are SuperCID and S-Off you can flash any RUU, BUT I'm pretty sure that flashing a new RUU will not help with the SIM-Lock.
Try the SuperCID first, then get info from CIDGetter, and we'll proceed from there. So far there's no indication it's a T-Mobile phone... Yet.

I did that. Changed to SuperCID, opened the app and there's nothing on top. I saw it app preview screenshots that it supposed to show in red text, but I don't have anything on top.
The thing is I don't have the box from this phone. There aren't any logos on phone itself. I'm just so confused about it, because everything points that it is Google Edition but somehow the SIM is locked.

Here's the clue. I just looked in the back of the phone. There's a Model number: PN07130 which is T-Mobile model. So I think this is t-mobile for sure. I can't find any stock ROM that would make it t-mobile again, maybe if I have original ROM I can enter the SIM unlock code.
go into terminal emulator and type getprop then look for ro.boot.cid that is your real cid

To go back you will need to change the MID back and relock the boot loader and flash the T-Mobile RUU that came out. Then try the SIM unlock..
But honestly before trying that go to the T-Mobile section and flash a rooted stock ROM and try it out.
It appears you practically have my phone. Its a T-Mobile fully converted to the GPE except for the numbers on the tail of the phone

Is that supposed to happen? Is it safe to assume that my mid is PN0710000 then? if not, how should I fix this?
Wait, where is written this MID?
in adb when trying to fastboot getvar all. It probably didn't help that it says getvar all failed, but I'm stuck here
Wait, if you will you the command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
you musb be in fastboot usb.
If you're in android, you can boot in fastboot with the command:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader[/url] and now you can use the getvar.
p.s. Post it here deleting imei and serial number :)
I did it just like that, did it a couple more times just to make sure, and still got the same result. Anyways:

Your version main start with 5, when the latest base starts with 3, and this is strange.
However, have you flashed some firmware in this period?
Probably there is a solution, but i don't know atm.
well, I just bought this phone yesterday (yay me), realized something was off when I couldn't OTA update (which is because of S-off), and now afraid to just flash the new 3.62 firmware because of the stars (asterisks?). could it be i did something wrong with the commands?
Try to flash a ruu for your phone
ok, I'll take a look at that. thanks for your help Guich
edit: what kind of RUU should I get? do i need to match it with the bootloader or something else, or any one of them works?

A ruu compatible with your cid
Because you're s-off and all ruu can be flashed fine!
hey Guich, I took your advice and tried to flash the RUU, but now i'm getting very confused. the flashing went fine, but I see no changes on my phone. In Settings>About>Software Information the software version is still 1.29.401.13, while getvar all shows me that the version is 3.62.401.1. Is there anything I'm misunderstanding here?
edit: do i need to unlock the bootloader for any of this?
I have same PN071**** I dont remember what was there before I have it from Ebay probly some Chinesse version but the cover say that it is PN714000, I accidently changed S-OFF to S On and flashed another rom.I cant do S-OFF anymore tried many things. Riffbox doesnt work with 714000 unfortunately.
Hi
Since I flashed wiped the entire phone, by mistake.. and flashed another ROM (4.4) my GSM won't work again.. only data (3G) would work.
I already try flashing this RUU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
But it's the same.. I've also tried to update my firmware.. to 4A.17.3250.14
Hope somebody can give me a hand.
Thanks!!

Which ROM were you on before and now (4.4)? Stock? Custom?
If it is possible, please provide info from using this command: fastboot getvar all
Remember to remove or mask out the serial & IMEI part of info.

OP's MID doesn't match the ruu linked and ruu isn't signed so if he had tried to flash it he would simply had an error 155.
His CID doesn't match his MID and variant (dwg)
CID should be HTCCN702

and the correct ruu should be this one

are you overclocking your phone ?
kernel tweaks your phone can't handle ?
gaming or normal uses?
under what conditions does it get warm ?

Do NOT FLASH the above ruu. It's only for single sim variants.
And please edit out your IMEI & SN
Did you make up the version number yourself?? coz the Indian One dual sim has .720. Not .707.

The ruu MUST match your phone CID/MID/variants.So this will not be the x.xx.707.x
.707 ruu is for PN0714000 and PN711000
Your phone is a PN0751000
difference between digits in red (1 vs 5)normally means different hardware so the .707 ruu will definitively not work on your phone as its designed for a single sim phone without sd card slot a probably a different modem chip

OP's MID doesn't match the ruu linked and ruu isn't signed so if he had tried to flash it he would simply had an error 155.
His CID doesn't match his MID and variant (dwg)
CID should be HTCCN702
and version main should be x.xx.1401.x
and the correct ruu should be this one
according to this mega-guide
Probably his device has been tampered

Actually, the Indian dual has the same CID as the single sim variant, ie HTC__038. Also, the link above is for the Chinese (I think) variant, and many people from India have bricked their phones using that RUU. Really confused, because the single sim Indian One has .707. but the dual sim has .720. he's from Indonesia, also, his CID suggests that the phone isn't Indian, so we should probably look for an RUU for that, with HTC__044

that's right, i'm realy confused with this kind of RUU,
Hi All,
Same here, still waiting any development that will lead me return to the stock, my version exactly same with the above detail that make all of as confused.
Hi XDA gang,
I have a mind bender.. So, I have T-Mobile.. Worked great. Lately, I decided to install Viper Rom after installing kitkat update. Purple fuzz show up on camera and want to go back to Stock to send it in for warranty repair. I am S-off and unlocked and SU and changed my CID to 11111111 and was able to install the M7_UL_JB43_SENSE50_MR_TMOUS_3.24.531.3_Radio_4A.21.3263.03_10.38m.1157.04_release_336982_signed_2_decrypted" RUU and everything went through ok. My OS is back to stock. No "tampered", but still ***unlocked***. Changed my CID to T-MOB010 and am no longer SU.
I went to receive the OTA update 4.19.531.10 (563.3MB) and it started downloading without a problem. But when it gets to 100% and it wants to run the update package, I get the following error message,
"We have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software. For your protection, we cannot update your phone. Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone. If you did not modify your system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at htc dot com"
I just want to also note that when I checked the CID after ViperRom was installed, I noticed that my CID was set to "BS_US001". Does this matter? I bought the phone from a guy on craigslist but I was using it just fine on T-Mobile without a hassle and OTA updates were just fine.
Oh yea, I don't have my T-mobile SIM card in the phone at the moment. Can that prevent an OTA install as well?
Could use a kick in the arse.
Thanks!
Johnnie

BS_US001 is the dev edition CID. To install ota you must have CID and MID corresponding to your version

Right, but does this mean I have to go back and install a brightstar RUU and change my CID back to BS_US001? Wouldn't the phone not work on T-Mobile anymore? I don't know anything about MID either. Can you shed a little light about it? How would I know which version my phone should be?

If you want to send the phone for repair under warranty, it must be back to 100% sctock, including the right version of OS, proper CID and MID.
If you are not sure what was your original CID and MID, that's a problem.
start by posting the output of "fastboot getvar all" except your IMEI and your SERIALNO. If we can't determine what was your original CID and MID with a getvar, we could pull the partition mmcblk0p6 where the original information is stored.

Something I've noticed when I was checking RUU's on htc1guru was that there's a google play edition RUU with my MID number in it.. I'm wondering if this is the ROM that I should've been using instead of the T-Mobile RUU I installed.. but then again, I'd rather be using the T-mobile RUU for this go round'.

ok its confusing a bit, if your phone was a dev edition it should be BS_US001 PN0712000 and 64gb. T-mobile should be T-MOB010 with MID PN0713000. So its looks like your phone was neither a Dev edition or T-mobile version originally.
I can check your mmcblk0p6 if you agree. This partition contain your original CID and MID. But it also contain your IMEI and SERIALNO which are sensitive number you should not share. If you are fine with this proceed with instructions below:
Make sure you have USB debug enabled from the dev option menu
make sure your phone is booted in the OS
open a command prompt from your adb/fastboot folder and type:
Code:
adb shell
su
You'll probably be prompted to allow/deny superuser access on your phone, if so, make sure to allow superuser access.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6_bakup.img
be careful with above command, if you make a mistake, this could harm your phone, you may want to copy/paste the command instead of typing it.
then browse your phone storage (/sdcard) and PM me the file just created (mmcblk0p6_backup.img), do not post it in your thread, because like I said, this file contain your IMEI number.
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 PM ----------
@jtlefebvre
from the information stored in your mmcblk0p6 partition, your original phone info are:
CID: BS_US001
MID: PN0712000
P/N: 99HT223-00
S/N: FA34TW9*****
IMEI: 354439*********
Production date: 2013/04/03
So change back your cid to BS_US001 and follow nkk71's guide linked in my signature using the 1.29.1540.16 ruu.zip

Holy crap.
Thanks for the help bro. I'll definitely get into that today. I really appreciate you looking into this for me.
But one question.. Isn't there a way to change the MID and CID to match the T-mobile RUU so that I can just use the stock T-Mobile ROM and get OTA that way? Because if I send this in for the warranty, they're going to expect the T-Mobile setup. I don't kn ow wtf the T-mobile dealer was doing when selling me the phone... maybe they had Brightstar phones that needed to be used.

you said you have bought the phone from a guy on craigslist, I doubt t-mobile will accept to repair/replace your phone under warranty. Probably have to send your phone directly to HTC with everything stock (PN0712000, BS_US001, LOCKED bootloader, S-ON, no tampered flag and a X.XX.1540.X OS version).
Yes this is possible to change the MID to match T-MOB010 and use the t-mobile ruu. This all depends what you are planning to do with the phone (sending it back to HTC or sending it to T-mobile). If you send it to HTC and the phone doesnt match the info in the p6 partition, they will maybe notice it and charge your for the repair.

Yeah the guy posted the phone for sale on craigslist but he had a little wireless shop a couple of towns over and he's an authorized T-mobile dealer. I got a good deal for it at $200 but I thought it was actually a T-mobile phone. I'm actually sending the phone directly over to HTC to fix the problem with my camera since it has pink fuzz all over my images. I had sent them the receipt for my purchase and they authorized my RMA. They're now just waiting for me to send them the phone. If they charge me to repair the phone, I'll have to deny it. But to prevent it all, I just want to give them a T-Mobile phone. Thus, here I am wondering, "why am I getting this message after returning the phone to stock". But if I can change the partition information to match T-Mobile's I will. I'm fairly tech savvy.

no, you wont be able to change data in mmcblk0p6.
You are getting this error message because the OS doesnt match the MID. So go ahead and return your phone back to 100% stock before sending it to HTC (BS_US001, PN0712000, LOCKED (not relocked), S-ON and software x.xx.1540.x)

Well, you already have European firmware and radio. Go to settings/mobile data/prefered network, and see if 2g/3g/4g is enabled. And remove your IMEI and serial no from your post. You don't want those two to be widely known [emoji6]

Hi!
have bought a used HTC One (M7) that is AT&T unlocked. Now I live in Tunisia (North Africa) and i can't update my software version "4.18.502.7".
This is my bootloader status:
***RELOCKED***
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-11111111
HBOOT-1.56.000
RADIO-4T.24.3218.09
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
OS-4.18.502.7
eMMC-boot 2048MB
I tried to install the following RUU: "RUU_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_7.17.15 40.7_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_4 20191_signed_2"
I had changed my cid to match that of Brightstar (BS_US001, or sth like it) but didn't work. I kept encountering "error 155".
I just want to find a compatible RUU and to be able to update (getting rid of AT&T bloatware would be a plus).
Please help!
Thank you!

Thank you!

You must be connected to the at&t network to receive ota update for the at&t version. If you want to convert to the Brightstar version using that RUU you'll first need to update your firmware to at least 6.xx.1540.x. Look in my dev edition thread (link in my signature) you'll find all the dev edition files.

make sure you use a full firmware and not a firmware patch (ota firmware).
The 6.07.1540.2 should work fine

Thanks! Can I install the version you sent me (Brighstar) without changing the "cid" into "BS_US001" ?
(mine is CID-11111111)

Thank you, mate! I just can't say it enough.
Flashed the firmware, then applied the RUU. Worked like a charm. Now I'm updating OTA
