Not buying it. First of all KitKat is a trademarked name... Also the whole "golden ticket" willy wonka thing is bogus too.

I feel like kitkat is gonna be dope. Anyone think our phone will be able to handle it? (they seem to have no doubt that the nexus 7 2013 will have it and besides the ram being 2gb and that AHD being 1gb, the specs don't between the two don't differ much [feel free to nicely correct me if I'm wrong])

4.4 is being made for older phones with lesser specs than ours. The question is will the carriers give it out to us?

Exactly! I personally am not down with the moto x. Its just a (very) slightly updated version of the matrix HD. And the real deal killer (from what I've heard) is that there's no f*#$%¡£ SD card slot.
Slightly of topic: since we where talking about kitkat running on older phones, does anyone else find it awesomely funny that the HTC dream/ T-Mobile G1 (the first official android phone) can run jellybean? Sure it's crap compared to ours now but the fact that it can even boot is cool.

AT&T users got 4.1.1...

i actualy did not know that and not only that att cut there main support for atrix hd as soon as moto-x came out and i haveused the moto-x its really more of a downgrade than an upgrade and you are correct it does not have a external sd card slot which prevents me from even thinking about the moto-x as a possible device
thats why i havent bought the nexus 4

Well I don't really think that 4.4 KitKat will be the next version of android. I don't know why but it just doesn't sound right. I mean all these hints from Google about klp for nothing? If you remember a Google employee had posted a picture of android eating klp which actually "confirmed" klp as the next version of android for me. It could be a marketing trick, like they show kitkat and then release 5.0 KLP . It could be a small "lie" from Google so that it keeps us thinking that they release 4.4 and then, boum they release 5.0. I could be wrong but I don't think 4.4 will be next version of android if you think how many android versions 4+ has supported (4.0, 4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3, and now 4.4???) All other android version numbers were supporting no more than two versions of android (1.5, 2.0, 2.2, 3.0,) Also I don't think Google would use a copyrighted name as their next version of android. Like I said, this could be a "trick" from Google or I could be totally wrong

I have owned a ton of phones over the last 5 years. Apple is probably the best quality, but IOS blows. After the for quality Motorola is the best choice IMO.
They may have dropped the ball with the previous Atrix models, I work for AT&T and the Motorla spokesperson guy came in to review the Atrix HD with us, picking one up myself today probably, said they're rolling out Jellybean for it soon...Wether that means this year, or 2 years from now, who knows...but he said they WILL be updating it.

If they get this out soon it will be awesome, but if a dev pushes out a less bloated version, it will be amazing!! Either way the root is out and good things are to come for the AHD. So glad i didn't get a one x or a gs3!!!!

Why is ROM development so slow for HTC phones?

I'm trying to decide between the sprint galaxy s 4, and the HTC one. My concern with the HTC is ROM development, my original galaxy s gets fully working cyanogenmod before a useful rom is made for my evo 3D. This seems to be the case with most all of their devices.
Why is it this way? Will the HTC one be this way as well? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

lol! Cyanogenmod ROM comes first before stock ROM? Ain't believing it buddy
useful ROM = Stock ROM
Nono, the evo 3d has unofficial cyanogenmod at least 3 months after the epic 4g receives official. Two, unofficial AOSP roms seem to be more stable (and released earlier) on galaxy s devices than htc devices why is that? Both being flagships, what leaves htc behind in custom AOSP roms?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My galaxy s would be on. 2.3, it is now on 4.2. The evo would be on 4.0 with outdated sense, it is now on 4.1. Nexus 7, stock 4.2. I use stock until the phone ages, and stock isn't good enough. I plan to have my next phone for 2 years, I might as well choose a phone that will stay current throughout those two years.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
HTC supports the flagship in every way possible, look at the One X. Even the newly released One is getting OTA at a crazy rate. And for custom rom developers, my Desire HD has fully stable 4.2.2 CM, AOKP and even paranoid. I hope this was helpful

I'm glad they support, but they only go so far. Samsung goes further. in the end if I want to run custom roms, will it flop like my evos?

I'm beginning to think that the evo 3d was just a horrible buy. I hope that the fact they're releasing the exact same device across all networks helps development. Still can't decide between the S4 and this. Both very good phones.

I've never owned a Samsung, but I've owned 2 HTCs, and my device is great in durability. I have this phone for about 2.5 years and I drop it around once every 3 days (obviously not intentionally) and it still runs good, no issues. For Samsung, you should read Samsung forums.

Ohh ok I got it now. Unfortunately there's won't be any CM or AOSP ROMs until kernel source code is out. Thing is Stock kernel is not compatible with AOSP/CM ROMs and the other way around since both custom and stock has some functions added to the kernel for it to work.
And the thing here is samsung releases kernel source code earlier than HTC. So it really depends on the situation. And by the way samsung is not releasing opening up it's exynos to developers. And now that samsung implemented octa core & big little architecture on their new processors. I doubt they would be able to make a CM/AOSP ROM anytime soon on S4.
I know cm10.1 runs slow as heck on my wife's one x as a custom sense rom works smooth as butter. On my note 2 cm10.1 actually runs better than any touchwiz rom. My advice is to wait until there both out and go see them in person. Both phones will get a good bit of development.
Thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Do you think the unlocking/s off process going to be simple to get it to run AOSP? I had to do the horrifying "wire trick" to get AOSP on the evo 3d.

You don't need s-off to run aosp. You just need to unlock on htc dev or buy the dev edition one that htc will offer. But yes I'm sure in time we will get s-off for everyone. Lol.. I remember the wire trick, I used to own a rezound, horrid phone. No I just did s-off on my wife's new one x and its just a command line hack and software.

Doubt that, it's not unusual for phones to ship a version behind. But with the s4 shipping with the latest I'd hope htc will push an update ASAP.

4.3 leaked/in testing Galaxy S4

Seems as Nexus owners we're not the first to get the update this time. It could turn out to be an elaborate fake but probably genuine as Google are an experimenting company and have released two flagship devices with a vanilla Android option (although they're not "nexus"). From what I've read there doesn't appear to be any big changes (if any actually visible) and more fixes/optimisations.

Flashed it on my GS4 and working like a charm (and it's the international version of course). No root yet, so i'll switch back to 4.2.2 to get my apps lol (can't restore through TB Pro duh).
It's just a leak so don't worry about it. The Nexus devices will definitely get the 4.3 first.

Cool, I'm another few months away from a handset upgrade and so it definitely makes these phones an even better proposition, having access to stock android goodness. Was impressed seeing how quickly someone had put a vanilla 4.2.2 ROM together for the HTC One, then seen this and was very surprised.
Its good to see really as it shows that Google and the handset makers are finally getting why people like android so much and that is the option of choice and customisation. It may not be the exact reason for doing so but they must be conscious of it. As the last I/O conference showed, it was very developer orientated

An older kernel isn't necessarily a bad thing, but those Soak Tests/OTA's tweaked the system enough to break the unlocked bootloader exploit. If you have a RAZR HD, don't update it. Have an Atrix HD??? Doesn't matter, Motorola completely dropped support for us so we'll never get an official Motorola/OEM/Carrier OTA ever again. Motorola dropped our support hoping we'd buy an X, the only thing they accomplished is making a lot of us not get a Motorola Phone on our next upgrade/purchase.

Yeah definitely not smart on their part. They drop support on almost every phone after 1 or 2 updates. And every atrix people got screwed on. Especially people that traded in their old Motorola to get this one and then moto was like ha just kidding get bent. Buy this new 200 dollar on contract phone.

Are you absolutely sure Motorola has dropped support for the Atrix HD? I remember getting a maintenance update on my old Atrix 4G last spring after Motorola had announced that the Atrix 4G would not be getting ICS.

cool

Motorola Atrix HD will get android 4.4?

I don't know if the future update we will receive is android 4.4 or a lower one(4.2 or 4.3) but at least there's something planned..

Interesting, we all hoping to get anything the least. Skeevy already point this out last night. But thanks for making its own thread.
Me you I rename it though as it mislead.

According to Droid Life, Motorola's KitKat-compatible phones include all versions of the Moto X, as well as new Droid phones like the Droid Ultra, the Droid Maxx, and the Droid Mini. Meanwhile, notable omissions include the Razr HD and the Razr Maxx HD.

Motorola (even in spite of being under Google's control now) will pull the same crap they did with the Atrix 4G and Photon: they'll keep saying "future plans" or "coming soon" or "we'll let you know" and then they'll just drop a bomb as they already did and say "if you want KitKat, go buy a candy bar or a new phone..."
Sad but more than likely true.
It really pisses me off since Google is pushing KitKat with marketing-speak that professes it runs great on non-top-tier hardware with as little as 512MB of RAM and a dual core processor, and yet with a device like the Atrix HD which covers that (dual core 1.5 GHz + 1GB of RAM) they'll just say "It's not gonna happen so get over it." I know in the long run it would be AT&T's decision whether to do it or not, but it's safe to say that no, we'll never see an official 4.4 update for the Atrix HD. Hell, I probably won't get one for my LG Optimus G either, which truly sucks.
/me hates it when companies do crap like that...

Yea. Finally the decision is on At&t's side. But they should give us android 4.4. =]

The decision has always been on att side. They suck at getting updates across.

AT&T doesn't even factor into us getting stock better than 4.1.. We have more carriers than just AT&T, not many, but we do -- Atrix HD already has 4.1.2 stock, where AT&T Atrix HD is only 4.1.1. Also, rumor has it that AHD Bell is running 4.2....almost makes me want to flash Bell JB just to run a system update on it....almost. If someone does flash B 4.1.2 and gets an update, don't install it, notify us so it can be ripped and made into a rom first. Don't want to accidentally f**k yourself out of an unlocked bootloader.
Remember that as long as ANY device of the razr-msm8960 family gets better than 4.1, then all the other devices essentially get it.
I know I'm saying att personally sucks at updates as your post just confirmed lol.

To be fair to AT&T, Motorola is/was just as bad. Look at the Bravo, Defy, Defy+, Milestone 2, and a few other similar phones, between the 4 the biggest differences are 3 different camera modules, a hardware keyboard, the below screen button layout, and maybe some slightly different sensors....Moto released the Defy+, which is the exact same as the Defy only clocked to 1ghz and had the red lens camera module (OG Defies had 5mp cameras, but some had a red lens module and the other green, Milestone had red 5mp, Bravo green 3mp).
Now on the custom scene, Bravo and Defy use the exact same sources other than camera and, I think, some proprietary lib differences. Milestone is the same other than the hardware keyboard additions, and maybe some more...been a while since I've messed with that platform.
Bravo latest is stock froyo 2.2.1 (there is a 2.2.2 model around)
Defy is froyo 2.2.2 (there is a leaked 2.3.4 GB)
Defy+ is GB 2.3.6
MS2 is GB 2.3.6
All these phones could have easily been updated by Motorola, but its easier to not update them and make us get new phones.
Stock Bravo is the worst stock experience ever, and my first Android. Four hours in and I was rooted and on a custom rom, BravoX.
They all run CM10.2 thanks to Quarx and many other talented devs.
What's funny is I bet ya that more than half of XDA's members are here because of the Manufacturer/Carrier release fiasco that always happens. If they didn't want us messing with our phones then they should give us something that doesn't completely suck, like our Stock ICS...Other than TB, governor type crap, etc I could use that without root any day of the week and be happy with it.

Got caught up with my six month old. I will try later. Sorry.

Yea but I wish something different not just the same. Because all cyanogenmod roms are the same look. I wish something at least noticeable different from the current one's.

Totally agree. Don't get me wrong as I truly appreciate cyanogen team but what you have stated is exactly why I'm not a fan of their ROMs any more.
