So, I will have an upgrade coming up in june, and will be giving my dad my captivate in exchange for him buying me a new phone. I was just wondering what everybody's thoughts were on either the Infuse 4g or the SGSII?
That 4.5 inch screen on the infuse looks mighty fine, but I feel like I might want to wait for the SGSII. Any thoughts? I just don't know if the wait for the SGSII is worth it, although I can see myself holding out quite a while now that I'm running gingerbread goodness.
And please don't talk about other phones. I wouldn't buy an atrix if my life depended on it, and I would rather keep my captivate than go with the htc inspire. I just don't see myself ever going away from the SAMOLED displays that I have grown to love thanks to my cappy, and SAMOLED+ will only fuel my addiction.

This. It's exactly what I'm going to do.
Herp derp Captivate XDA Premium.
SGS2 without a doubt, we're talking dual core vs single core, older processor vs new processor, one gig ram vs 512MB ram, froyo vs gingerbread, the list goes on and on.

Very true. The Infuse is a very appealing option, but I'm definitely putting the SGSII on top of my list right now. I just hope they drop a release date soon, so I know exactly how long I will be waiting. If the release date is too far out I might have to go with the infuse, then use my dad's upgrade when the SGSII eventually drops. FCC approval is teasing me like none other.

I think the only thing you get with the Infuse is a slightly larger screen - if that means something to you.
Infuse = 4.5", SGS2 = 4.3"
Both use SAMOLED2 so the quality should be equal.
I'm holding out for the SGS II also.

I've used droids from Motorola, Dell and now Samsung for at least a few months each and I've got to say I'm VERY impressed with Samsung's customizations to the Android OS. Things like the power controls in the notification bar, multiple lock screens, having an option to text someone right after hanging up and lots of other little modifications have made Samsung my new favorite for Android phones.
After spending as much time as I did trying to get the resource hogging Motoblur off my Backflip and simply ignoring the StageUI that Dell uses, it's refreshing to see modifications that are actually useful being added to Android.
Almost every custom rom image I've seen for the cappy includes touchwiz modifications, which is really saying something when hackers could easily remove it.
I've never used an HTC which is the only other brand I'm interested in trying, but I'm really impressed with Samsung's work, they have my loyalty.
sgs II is way better in my opinion...
the only thing about infuse is the 4.5 inch screen but 0.2 in doesnt really matter...
and SGSII has a better processor, better almost everything.
Just wait to see what At&t does. and the price can change your decision
but i recommend that you wait till SgsII comes out and then decide

Yeah, I definitely want the SGSII, and price isn't really a determining factor. I bought my Cappy at full retail because apple screwed up my iphone 3g with their ****ty software which made it laggy as hell. Good phone for my mom, but I couldn't take it any longer. As a result, my dad will be taking my captivate and buying me whatever phone I want once I am able to upgrade in June, as I will be able to get the new contact price. I just hope AT&T doesn't drag their feet with getting the SGSII to market.

yeah sgs2 is definately the best phone right now, man cant wait till rogers gets it, I HOPE
SGSII
I will probably get the SGSII as long as it has a properly working GPS and Flash
(cant believe they didnt add a flash to my cappy )
Ok, so my dad had to use my phone to tether his laptop this weekend, and wants to make the switch soon as a result. So it looks like I have to choose between the Inspire or the Infuse...don't have time to wait for the SGSII unfortunately. What are peoples thoughts on those two? I definitely like samoled displays, so the infuse is a bit more appealing, I just want to know if you guys think the inspire had anything going for it that should make me reconsider it?

if it is between the infuse and inspire the infuse has some advantages but the price in hard to justify unless you use the hd playback. in which case the infuse has the only true 1080p hd playback that i know of. other than that the infuse makes video calls, inspire doesnt. the infuse is great but the specs are very close to the inspire and the size might be too much for some people, it is almost comical really.

very true but the infuse feels flimsy, there is no sense of quality, on the other hand i have opened up an evo and dont think much of htc's design principles either.
if it werent for the captivates less than stellar gps (not to say mine is bad, just not stellar) lower amount of ram and the shutdown issue that not every user is going to be able to fix i would say it was the most practical and best built android phone on att. but there are design flaws.
SGSII or something better. I wouldn't waste my time with the Infuse.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
Like I said before, price isn't an issue. Size isn't either, as I have large hands, and being a 6'2" 260 lb guy means my pockets aren't lacking in size either. My captivate still feels small. Also, I wish I could wait for the SGSII, but that isn't happening anymore. I'll probably end up going with the Infuse, because I love samoled displays, and though it's still single core, the 1.2 ghz in the Infuse beats the 1 ghz in the inspire. I suppose being able to side load apps from the get go is a big plus too.
I just hope the dev community shows the infuse even a fraction of the love they've shown the captivate.

if your talking about a camera flash i hear you but if your talking about the browser ad on then really... there is an official update for both the rogers AND at&t versions of the captivate as well as pleanty of guides to get 2.2 and even 2.3 unofficially once you have on of those go to the market and simply search flash and install it.
Hello all,
So I know some of the developers are moving on to better phones... and I wonder, after the nexus one which has been an awesome phone, whats the latest greatest everyones going to (I use Att)
You didn't give a time frame for your upgrade but if you can hold out then the S2 looks like an excellent option. It's the first phone that I feel upgrades everything about the N1 and will likely be as popular as the original Galaxy S with the devs. It does lack NFC and has the same resolution as the N1 but it'll probably be years before NFC is commonplace (In the UK at least) and the Super Amoled Plus screen has been called one of the best, if not the best displays out there by several reviews (Check out engadgets review).
The LG 2X (or G2X) is gaining a bit of momentum, although the stock software is pretty bad.
I'd definitely gofor the galaxy S2. Thats like the phone of the millennia.
Sent from my non-Apple device via XDA App
The S2 has NFC really (point of correction)
And to add to that, i have been using N1 since the month it came out and to be frank the only phone worthy of being an upgrade to my N1 is the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Not in the UK it doesn't
I don't want to go any bigger, so probably Desire S unless the Galaxy S2 Mini is almost exactly the same with the only difference being 3.7" vs 4.3" screen.
i didn't make up my mind between htc sensation or samsung g s2
I'd definitely go for the s2. I see more value for money on that.but that's just me.
Sent from my Nexus One
Agreed, the Galaxy S II is the first phone that has looked liked a worthwhile upgrade to the N1. I've been a little tempted by it, however I've decided I can hold out a bit longer - for the possibility of a Nexus 3 in December. I'm hoping it'll be as revolutionary as the N1, and not a complete disappointment like the Nexus S.
I wouldn't really call the Nexus S a disappointment.... just more of a Nexus One.5; upgraded touch pannel, NFC, better GPU/CPU. It just wasn't a huge leap like the the previous ~500ghz phones to the Snapdragon.
I wanted the Sensation because I don't like the way Samsung has treated their upgrades, but if the SGSII is hackable enough I might concider it over the Sensation.
I'm thinking HTC Pyramid/Sensation...if it can be unlocked & rooted
I'm a vanilla stock Nexus guy, so I just splurged on a Nexus S. If it weren't for an accident, I probably would've hold out for the 3rd Nexus iteration or Samsung Galaxy S II.
Any phone with dual core and gingerbread in it
anything dual core
Seriously there is no point going with the Desire S or anything like that.
You're getting the same CPU except die shrinked. OK GPU is better but I'm not big on touch screen gaming so its moot for me, of course you may think otherwise. Screen, battery, functionality all similar to Nexus, you won't see much difference.
Basically you want a major bump, and that means atrix, SGS2, sensation, LG2x.
atrix is bootloader locked, ditto sensation. not sure about LG2x but it only has 512RAM, otherwise looks like a good phone. But Samsung Galaxy S2 looks like the runaway best option - you get a vastly better screen, better battery, cpu and gpu that smokes, also ships with gingerbread, very popular so lots of dev support, can't lose. Only issue is cost, gigantor size and availability - apparently there are 3 million preorders/backorders!!!!
In all honesty if SGS2 is not for you, I'd just wait. I'm doing that with my nexus one, I figure a 3.7 or 4" superphone is round the corner (not too keen on 4.3 gigantic size either), or I'll just save a few hundred bucks, in meantime the nexus is still trucking along doing everything I need it to do (push emails, SIP, music, light browsing, google sauce integration, gps, and oh yeah it works as a phone lol).
Is the new Sammy only coming out for ATT or is there also a Tmo version?
first time nexus one user. like it but i see y they made the s. had the g2x took it back, and i have the xperia play on the way. might go with the sensation on the 6th. they cracked the thunderbolt so they will crack that as well. ill keep selling and trading till than.
I have the GS1 and I am for sure getting a GS2. I have had all the droids except for the charge and the galaxy line is far superior to any other Droid. The only other phone I would get is the next Nexus. The rumor is its going to be the Nexus R.

Nexus R? How about Nexus 3!
I've Bern full out nexus one proponent. But the galaxy s2 is finally what interests me to upgrade. Its very future proof, comes with up to date android 2.3.3, minimal skin, and unlocked boot loader. It ticks every box more than any other upcoming phone.
Hey all,
I was just thinking since my milestone is starting to get fairly old and beat up, would any of you have a phone with a hardware keyboard you might be looking at??
So far one phone that has caught my eye, might have to paper bag it, but its the Xperia Pro. Looks thicker then a brick, but hardware seems solid. Also read somewhere that sony will begin to unlock bootloaders, if I'm not mistaken it was here within xda... I've also been looking at the nokia N900, looks amazing but then id be parting with android which I don't really wish to at this current moment...
Any way what would you guys/gals have to say??

m done with motorola .. nt coming back to it .. sony xperia arc or some htc dual core phone .. mayb even blackberry storm 3 .. or iphone 5 .. too many options for me
I'm also interested in the Xperia Pro. It's not out yet, but hopefully in a year's time (when I'll be looking for a new phone) the price of the Pro will be down enough for me to afford it (either new or used). Or maybe I'll be used to on-screen keyboards by then and can choose from more phones.
I've been wondering for a while if a netbook/smartbook would be a better way to do more 'serious' web browsing, etc than a mobile phone. If I got a reasonably portable netbook/smartbook/tablet I could get a simpler and cheaper mobile phone. The Asus Transformer is looking pretty good...
maybe i am also done with motorola- i say maybe because i love the industrial design of motorola and till now any other phone out dosent have that factor. Nexus 3 or whatever is next nexus is getting my attention unless it is by samsung again.
hey im interested in buying. I am moving from an atrix 4g but keeping it just incase. im wondering does this have fully functiong jelly bean? and is it easy to root? idk what else to ask but feel free to convince me!
This phone has a great community and is easy to root. ICS or JB should be near fully functional shortly (thanks guys!) - looks like the camera is among the last few remaining speed bumps. Still, consider all your options - some people prefer a manufacturer driven ICS/JB build over a community project. It all depends on what's more fun for you.

Get the droid 3 if you want full QWERTY.
Without the qwerty, there are quite some phones that are better (more ram, faster cpu, better screen, full android 4.x)
im a bit confused. soo is the droid 3 basically in the same state in the atrix or like the camera just isnt working or something?
Camera isn't working right now. It might never work, since we lack the proper drivers to make it work. Just buy it if you want full QWERTY and is short on money

I'd suggest you to stay away from this phone for your own sake. Or buy it second-hand for not more, than 200 bucks. The worst smartphone ever made.
TOTALLY DISAGREE. BEST QWERTY DEVICE EVER MADE!
I owned these Android devices, and find the Droid 3 the best: HTC Hero, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy, HTC Desire, HTC Desire Z, Motorola Milestone 2, Motorola Droid 3.
There is only one downside for me, no official ICS.
It's display is GREAT, especially outdoors. You can use FM Radio, Camera is perfect (with the right modifications), battery life is good, keyboard is awesome, build quality top notch.
There is no reason to describe it as "worst smartphone ever made"...

Totally agree with you, but there is one single point making the device great micro-tab with QWERTY - as the phone with CDMA networks device is extremely poor. It doesn't work with non-Verizon EV-DO networks, therefore loses the network pretty often and reboots deliberately twice a day. Half-time the phone is offline and this makes the device of totally no use as communicator.
Did you apply the GSM option that leads to much better reception? It gave me the double amount of signal bars and stopped loosing signal immediately.

I like my phone but the lack of a stable update is kinda saddening but we got a high quality dev and he is working on it.
It's great if you don't mind lack of official OS updates, and if you can find one without keyboard issues. I've got one of the ones with bad keys and it makes the keyboard pretty much unusable. Aside from that, though, it's pretty fast and capapble, has a nice screen, feels pretty good in the hand, and has a variety of accessories available.
Everyone here owns one I assume.
Should I buy a droid 4?
And what are the pros and cons?
Online video reviews are way to biased
It's all up to you. If you MUST have a physical QWERTY keyboard, then it's probably one of the best choices, but here's my own list of pros and cons:
Pros:
-Decent dual core processor, can be overclocked up to 1.4 GHz using myfishbear's scripts
-One of the best hardware keyboards you can find on a phone
-Build quality is good, feels sturdy
-Call quality is clear, haven't had any dropped calls
-Screen is pretty bright when you need it to be
-Loudspeaker is... loud.
-4G speeds are supposed to be good, but I haven't tried
-8MP camera with 1080p video
-Docks available (I use a Motorola Atrix 4G dock that I bought for a cheap price, modified it a bit and works fine)
-Global use possible due with GSM
Cons:
-Screen's Pentile - nowhere near as clear as a non-pentile screen, e.g. HTC One X, it's not HD, and black levels aren't low enough at high screen brightness
-Camera's photos may be slightly washed out, definitely doesn't beat an iPhone 4S (as much as I hate to admit it)
-Limited ROM activity, like most Motorola phones (but there are good ones available)
-Accessories limited, as with all hardware keyboard phones (few choices in cases, etc.)
-Interface lags behind slightly at times, but very little
-Internals are outdated as of 2013, since quad-cores are the rage now
-Battery life won't last with heavy use
At present, the Droid 4 is close to the best you can get with a hardware keyboard, but don't expect the screen to astound you like the newer models' would. If you want a hardware keyboard and can wait, I'd suggest waiting for a successor, maybe a Droid 5.
Droid 5? Somehow I doubt that will ever come out. :-/

If you're mainly going to text, I can't see why it shouldn't last a day - as long as the screen brightness is kept low, and the Wi-fi off. You should try one out if you can first, to see if the screen's not a bother for you.

JB was announced, but unlikely before summer imo. You got shafted my friend. People who are having problems, ie broken droid 4s are being given droid razr hds. I only use keyboards, thus only the droid line....put your phone in 3g and be happy. Batter life isn't bad per se, it is small however at 1785mah. Other than that, the phone is excellent. i went to verizon and got my upgrade to razr HD (payed $199)

so in all actuality I only spent $100 to get this phone (with contract)

Ya ive had it a few days and overall love it
I just bought a lapdock for it as well
The only issues I have with it are the lag it seems to have once in a while and the battery is pretty bad.
But besides that I have to say I love this phone
Now I think droid 5 is possible...moto recently released that keyboard phone for at&t or sprint photon q or atrix q or something like that
So we will find out soon enough
i would recommend trying to freeze unnecessary apps. and uninstalling the bloatware. sped mine right up to 400mb free memory. now i can run any number of my apps and the multitasking works great too on ics. even after a reboot. didnt want to run a custom rom so i sorta cleaned up the stock to suit my needs with the root script and link2sd.
JB is supposed to be released soon. within the next 8 weeks i think, so will be looking forward to that. and we'll know if a droid 5 is on the way by the end of february.
would love a 13/16mp camera, 2 or more gigs of ram droid 5 with the new flexible unbreakable screens. that would pwn.
