[Q] Just another wifi bug - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I just get a new wifi error since some days. If I try to connect to my wifi network, I get an error called "authentication error".
The range is also shi**y as hell! My phone is rooted and I tried different fixes (set gEnableBmps from "1" to "0" and set ConnectivityThresholdDMB from "-87" to "-100".
But the range is still like before. The speed is also reduced a lot, when I got a weak signal.
Is there any other fix for the wifi range? And does anyone got that authentication error too?
I made 2 tests. 1
The first result was made 4-5 meter away from the router (1 Wall between router and the room)
The second result is next to the router (30cm away)

Are ya using STOCK ROM maybe? Update to latest version 12.0.A.2.245 and tell us how it work

I already got the newest firmware (245), but I had these errors on my old fw (257) too.

wifi sleep policy not work correctly?

My wifi seems to disconnect from my wifi when the screen turns off, despite me having changed my settings to never sleep. When I look at the wifi settings it says "Unsuccessful Connection". I didn't have this problem with my MT3G.
Anyone having similiar issues or a fix?
wifi Reconnection issues
I'm having the same problems with mine.
It initially connects to wifi fine but when the screen goes off it sometimes drops the connection and will not reconnect without a reboot.
I have tried setting it to keep the wifi when sleeping but it makes no difference.
I found a few similar reports elsewhere and followed most of the suggestions, like changing routers, changing wifi channels, setting an IP address instead of DHCP etc. Nothing seems to make any difference so far.
Mine never seems to reconnect after waking up, but I just go into the Wireless settings/Wifi settings window (where it lists all the Wifi networks in the area) and press on the network name and it brings up a dialog allowing me to connect again. I press the Connect button and it instantly reconnects. No reboot required...
Try increase your router's "Group Key Update Interval". I had the same problem with my D-Link DIR-655. I changed mine to 10 hours and it's working fine for me now.
i have the issus that my wifi is "connected" i mean i see the logo at the top bar but after a few minutes i don't get any update from the internet like gmail oder twitter when is wake up the device from sleep i get them back again
maybe it something with the Group Key Intervall but i can't switch it on my speedport w700v router
I just tried switching mine, highest it can go is 7200 seconds, so I bumped it to two hours instead of one. linksys
my wifi reconnects when I wake the screen almost 100% but it's not reliable.
I have to go to wifi list and reconnect. Sometimes I disable wifi and then re enable, conects no problem. Irritating
i heared that switching the encryption from wpa/wpa2 to only wpa2 will solve this issues, will try it when i am at home
...seems like almost everybody got this problem.
for example with my Hero i don't had this problems so it's something with the W-Lan card of the Nexus
Got this problem too but will try the suggested work arounds when I get home tonight
found out that my encryption is wpa2 not wpa/wpa2 ... damn so thats not the reason
and my router cant configure the group key intervall
I don't have this issue, running CM5.0.3.1, mine is set to Never Sleep and it does not. My connection does not time out either. I connect to two Trendnet TEW-637AP's at home, in mixed b/g/n mode with WPA2-PSK mode security.
Could it be, that this prob exists just for nonrooted phones?!
i've got mcr 1.6 which is rooted and don't work
i think it's a problem with the wifi card and the wifi router
rooting just means that you get read/write access to all folders
doesn't change anything on your wifi connection

Not exactly, it means also modified system files, which could include those that interface with the wifi chip and those that control the sleep state of the device.
Also, Cyanogen (and most other custom roms now) are running on a different (newer) kernel.
yes i know
but mcr is although running on different kernel and it's not working there
i don't think its an issue bei the stock rom and mcr
maybe here is someone with CM where the wifi drops?
edit:
okay i tried it with the desire rom version from modaco, the same failures, maybe i try a CM built now, and see if it changes
Code:
[B]Rom [/B] [B]Router / Access Point[/B]
MCR 1.6 | Speedport w700v | not working
Desire MCR | Speedport w700v | not working
CM 5.0.3.1 | Speedport w700v | not working
i think this means it's not a rom issue, its something with the routers and access points in combination of the wifi card from the nexus
That´s strange..perhaps just accidentally, but: yesterday I installed "Task Manager" , which has an auto-kill function.....since then my Wifi reconnects perfectly
maybe because it automatically does anything inside of the 10 minutes which keeps the wifi active?
which one did you install?
there are a lot of them on the market
which developer?
edit:
ah i found a strange issue, today i was at the wifi of my girlfriend, she has the same router BUT i don't have the wifi problems there, with the same model of router thats very strange
i found another work around, i set my twitter client to 5 minutes update intervall, this means every 5 minutes is network traffic and the connection won't drop after my 10 minutes public key intervall change
don't know how much battery is used while setting from 10 to 5 minutes but i think it should be okay
Try a different WiFi channel
I've seen reports of WiFi connection problems being solved by changing channels on the AP. Channel 10 seems to be a consistently reliable choice.

[Q] Anyone still having wifi issues???

I have looked at every thread and forum possible for the past 2 months. My wifes nexus and my own connects to our home wifi for a few minutes then disconnects itself (weather the screen times out or not) and will not reconnect at all. I have tried the wifi fix apps on the market, changed the settings on my router numerous times, factory rest my router and phone, changed roms, and even routers but nothing seems to work. My wife's nexus is stock and not rooted so I have been using hers as a reference thinking it was maybe a rom I was using but she is having the same problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had that problem but as soon as I got to 2.2.1 and/or used a newer Radio version, the problem disappeared...
Although, N1s are still very picky on routers...try with another router and check if it keeps the connection alive.
Also check your router settings to see if they're optimal (try having no password set and see if it keeps the connection...if it does then it might be a problem with the N1 not crypting information well or so)
You could also try updating the router's firmware.
Make sure your wifi policy is set to "Never" (go in wifi settings the press Menu and click on settings)
Last thing you could try is manually set an IP address + gateway + netmask in the wifi settings as well as setting your N1's mac address to that same IP address in the router...
If nothing works then, I'm completely out of solutions
I just got on to look at some of the settings with my router when I noticed that some times when my phone says I am connected to the wifi there is no IP address assigned to the phone. Under connected devices it says "android device" but with no ip address associated with it...
I still have the problem
I still have the problem. I have pretty much given up on it. I have heard that if you increase the minimum CPU speed a little, it will help. I'm not willing to do that as it will undoubtedly waste more battery.
I have changed the wifi sleep policy back to "when screen turns off", because having it on "never" would make the phone think it's connected..when it isn't..leading to hours of no email notifications and such. But I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for people who don't have a data plan or some other similar situation.
I'm thinking about getting a Wireless N router (I have a G right now) and seeing if that helps. But even if I was to get one, I don't have much money to spare so I'd probably get the cheapest N routers, around 30-50 dollars..and I don't know if those are any good...or if there really isn't any difference between the high priced and low priced ones.
I said this in another thread, but I'll say it here.
I tried all of the things everyone could suggest and none of them worked. When I heard Broadcom updated the driver and CyanogenMod put it into his nightlies, I bit the bullet, unlocked my bootloader and installed CM6 and it changed NOTHING. So I went out and bought a new router: Cisco E3000. It works great. So I guess it was a bad combination of phone and router. I had to spend hundreds of dollars. Really ****ing pissed me off. But I wasn't going to buy a cheaper router without dual channel wireless N.

Nexus has N connectivity but only on one band (2.4Ghz) and I don't think the technology matter (heck, I'm still on 802.11b ) it's really more of a phone/router combination problem...
I did actually test on my VERY CHEAP spare 802.11g router (DLink --> do not buy their products) and the connection did NOT stay...that was back when I was on stock FRG83 though...I should try again on Cyanogen but I'm wayyy too lazy ^^
btw, I really don't get why people always unlock when they wanna flash a rom....heck, keep your warranty!! there is an easy way of doing it without unlocking...meh
PS: I have a 50MB data plan (technically, I didn't buy a data plan, it came free) so I AM a heavy wifi user and it was such a pissoff to find out that my new Nexus One couldn't connect to Wifi and keep the connection alive...now I'm damn happy that it works after all that fiddling ^^
@sigep: try to assign a manual ip to your N1's mac addres...or update firmware, it definitely looks like a router problem...
The root without unlocking method wasn't too tested when I unlocked my bootloader.
I have made two swaps with no problems since.

Oh kay sorry then
Although all the new wikis and todos should emphasize on the locked bootloader methods to avoid voiding warranties...although I admit fastboot is always noobproof but I digress ^^
I've been testing several routers from different brands, and the only one that seems to work fine with mi Nexus One is the Linksys/Cisco WAG160N (802.11n, but 2.4 GHz only). However this one has other issues of its own, like not being able to connect to mapped ports after two days up and running (not even from the LAN). The N1 works fine, thought, it doesn't disconnect overnight.
I've also tried an SMC (SMC SMC7904WBRA-N, I think). This one is really bad, the router freezes after only two days of use, the lights freeze and it stops working altogether. I returned it after a week.
I'm currently using a Sitecom (300N WL-348). With this one the N1 WiFi is dropped over night, and the connection to this AP is disabled. I'm still testing if moving to a less crowded channel could fix that. I hope it does, since this router seems to have a more stable firmware that the Linksys/Cisco, same WiFi coverage (which is quite good), and even better WiFi performance. Not all is good, though, DSL performance is worse.
In the past I used Netgear routers. The firmware was stable as rock, but the hardware not so much and after a year of use they are very prone to failing. No idea if newer models are any better in this regard, they are impossible to find, so I don't think this has improved.
Since I have DSL at home, I'm looking at routers with DSL modem built in, so I don't have to have two devices (DSL modem and wireless router).
From my observarions - Nexus will disconnect from WiFi when the IP it has is lost and the network doesn't supply IP on time. After 1 or 2 IP assignment timeouts, it will skip the network and refuse to connect.
Every router I've connected to that supplied IP on time, even when revoked every X min, didn't cause disconnects.
Of course, WiFi on sleep set to "Never".
Success! Last night I updated the firmware of the Sitecom router, and changed the WiFi channels (it's set to use wide channel, so it uses two channels). This morning the N1 had still a solid WiFi connection and over night it updated all services just fine (weather, Facebook, email).
I've been using the Sitecom router since my last post with no issues. Then last friday arrived a small update that broke WiFi. On Saturday arrived the bigger update to Android 2.2.1 but the problem with WiFi remains. Before 2.2.1 Wifi has been working fine every day at home and work, now with 2.2.1 it's broken at home and work.
Are we moving forward? If Gingerbread doesn't fix this problem I'll have to do something about it: try cooked ROMs or even getting another phone . Currently my N1 keeps disabling my access points all the time.

[Q] Receiving Server Error after Secure Full Erase

About a week ago I did a Secure Full Erase on my 32GB HP Touchpad.
Then after finishing it rebooted and I started going through the initial setup. I select English then United States and then confirm that is my selection. I then get taken to the Wi-Fi Setup screen, in the background I can see the HP Terms & Conditions, where I select my network and type in my password. For about 1/2 a minute it sits there and states "Cannot connect to the internet through this connnection. Try another network." It then decided it will go but then I receive a Server Error which says "Please visit http://hpwebos.com/support to help resolve this problem". I have tried this multiple times many different ways. I've used other networks and even tried making mine unsecured. I've tried selecting different languages and countries. I've tried using WebOS Doctor which did the reinstall of the WebOS 3.0.4 and even tried going back to 3.0.2 but same thing.
I've been working on this now for the past 8 hours and have tried everything that I have came across out there on the net.
Anyone else have any other ideas?
Any help is welcome.
Thanks.
Well... 100 have checked out my post and yet to have any ideas.
I really just want to get it up and running so I can run Android on it.

The wifi does not seem to work with certain configurations of WPA2 on the setup screen.
Set your router to wpa TKIP (or weaker) and reduce the speed to 54 mbps. I am not sure which on of these fixes it but it does. Once you are setup you can put the router back to WPA2 and it works.
Took me a while to figure that out on my system include modem resets.
BTW I have a netgear wndr3700 as my primary router, do you happen to have the same?
That worked!!! Can not believe that is all it took was to drop the speed to 54mbps, I didnt change the security. And yes I have the exact same router.
One thing I did notice is when I switched my router back it would not connect to the system related sites like System Update and App Catalog. So what I did was use the fact that the router is a dual band to set up a second signal with the lower speeds, was not using the 5Ghz band anyway, so this way the lower speeds would not affect when I stream to my Epic Touch or my SqueezeBox.
I'm having same problem how do I fix it

[Q] Need suggestions for troubleshooting wi-fi problem

I have a Droid 3 running CM9. I have had wi-fi problems with this phone since it was new (and still running 2.3).
I can turn on wi-fi and get it to successfully connect to my work's wi-fi network (which uses PEAP & MSCHAP), but after a couple of minutes the connection will stop passing data and eventually disconnect.
I started logcat to watch what was going on. I see a wpa_supplicant state change message and then another indicating it is authenticating. Next I see an "authentication successful" message, but in the next couple of lines "authentication failed" and then it switches to disconnected. PCs/Macs/etc. on this same network don't seem to have any trouble.
Anyone have any further suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? This phone has been a big disappointment from day 1. Upgrading to ICS improved things quite a bit, but wi-fi is still very unreliable.
Does it work with an open wifi signal like at Starbucks?
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
Haven't tried it on an open network, but it does seem to work better on my home wi-fi that uses WPA2.
I have the same problem with an XT860.
It only ever happens with ONE router i ever use, and it's an 802.11n *draft* router.
On anything else i get solid wifi. Rather open, wep, wpa1, wpa2, or wpa2-enterprise.
PM me a pcap file of your wifi when the error occurs, and ill compare it to mine.
But in the end, the only way to truly fix it, is to replace whatever AP you have issues with. In my case, not even forcing 11g fixes it. nor 11b.
My solution was less elegant though. I just set up a repeater.

[Q] WLAN connectivity and Cellular Network

Hi,
got some real uncool problems with my RAZR i and wanted to know if anyone is also experiencing this kind of things.
First there ist the WLAN:
Not always, but most times, my WLAN connection stops working. It still shows that there ist signal and the logo is blue, but i can't down or upload anything or veeeeeeeery slow (1 - 5 KB/s). This happens when i try to download something bigger (apps for example) I always have to reconnect the WLAN. Speedtest.net shows the same thing, first test works queit well but the next tests simply show a connection error or have a ping about 5000ms. In comparison to my old Milestone 2 the Razr I is just awefull at this.
Second thing is about the signal of my cellular network. I live in germany and my provider is Vodafone, a very good network here. But sometimes i unlock my phone and there is no signal at all. After a couple seconds it returns and shows a full signal.
Am I the only one who git this kind of bugs? If it is so, maybe I should try to get a new one. Otherwise I'm going to stay with my Milestone 2 for a bit longer and send the Razr back.
I did suffer the same WLAN problems. By the way, i'm german too.
I reconfigured my Fritz!Box 7270 to 802.11 b+g only (no more n) and a bit later i changed the WiFi-Frequencies to 2.4ghz only on the razr i [you'll find it at WLAN -> three dots -> advanced(?)], didn't have any problems since. I live in Berlin, with the worst network eplus i never had these connectivity problems you suffer. Signal is a bit stronger than on my old JellyTime Desire HD, laying them side by side, the DHD has -95dBm while the razr i is around 89dBm.
Please tell me if the WiFi mode change ends your problem.
Hello,
I had the same problem with WLAN. So I tried this solution and is working so far.
I have a TP-link router and I configured it to miss the "n" .
My RAZR I set to 2.4Ghz too
