Hello,
I am having problem with Google services and Android OS consuming around 30 to 50 MB per day, and that started just recently, maybe 30 days ago.I cannot recall, but i am pretty sure before it was, maybe, 1 MB per day for both, at most!I was on stock rom and I am pretty moderate user, meaning I have at most 5 or 6 applications.Backup to Google servers was disabled from start and still is, and I am syncing only mails, contacts and calendar.I tried with factory reset without any application I usually use, but the issue persist.
This was all on stock rom, then I rooted, unlocked phone and installed Cyanogen mod 10.1.2, and well..., same thing is still happening.Btw, my monthly plan is 400 MB, which is quite enough for my needs, but not with those insane drainings from this 2 services though.
Anyone help is very appreciated.Thanks!

As this is not specific to our device, but is actually a problem with Android itself, you're better off using Google to search.
This could be caused by Google's location services as I've seen that before, but search Google and see what comes back.

Hi
I currently have a 200meg per month plan, in NZ we dont have the beauty of massive data plans. Anyway this has been fine for the past 4 months of my N1 but lately as I keep upgrading ROMs I seem to be using more and more.
For some reason on RoDrIgUeZsTyLe ROM I was geting random 40meg blocks for no reason which stuck out when I was only averaging 5 to 10meg per day. I am now on Cyanogen RC3 and still get the odd 5 to 10 meg block.
Just last night I turned everything off, email, twitter, facebook and so on and still I downloaded 3meg and uploaded 3meg using 6 meg of my usage according to 3G Watchdog. Looking in spare parts / batery history / networkwork usage apparently nothing displayed in there used it.
Is there any other app that can tell me what is using my data?
Thanks
Not much for this function, its a badly needed app. If spare parts doesn't show it then I don't know what you could use...
It sure, I dont mind upgrading my plan, I am just more annoyed that I have to upgradefor some unknown process that is using my data. If I knew what it ws and it was usefull then I wouldnt mind.
It was another 8meg of usage last night and everything is reading basically 0 in the battery history.

things to try
-full wipe and try one night without any marketapps installed.
- try a stock-rom
History: as aprevious iPhone 4 user but long time android tablet user, I was less accustomed to battery consumption on Android phones. I was experiencing sleep usage (data on, WiFi connected to home network and good signal, Bluetooth radio on but not in use) of approximately 6-10% per hour. After reading battery life posts from other users on these and other forums, it appeared this was excessive. I had, after enabling these items (Google now, Google +) decided to disable them. But usage varied little. On screen time was about 3:40 or so. I had Google voice and Pandora installed. I was using built in email client, 3 accounts, fetching every 30 minutes including 1 @gmail domain account, what's app running, skype installed but not running or notifying. Battery usage stats indicated nothing excessive, Voice, What's App and Pandora had a process or two running along with WWF and SWF (notifications set for 1 or 2 hours) but batt stats did not indicate anything unusual with OS. Pulse, AP press, Flipboard installed but set to only sync/update when using the app.
First fix attempt: installed juice defender and set to aggressive. Battery use dropped to 3%/hr when left untouched for the hour. Emails weren't coming through regularly because of the JD and email client timing off sync. Installed K9 and set to 10 minutes fetch for all three accounts. Battery usage about the same for on screen. Better performance. Could get through 10-12 hour day with moderate use texts, emails, news apps (pulse clipboard ap) and a few pics. But battery drain seemed to be drastic when using apps and the unit started to drain when idle at a rate of about 4% (could be signal cell tower location cgange , etc). Overall acceptable but still "less" than when compared to forum posts and previous phone experience.
Second and present attempt: installed wugroot toolkit 1.6.2. Unlocked boot loader, rooted phone and installed custom recovery. Returned to stock. Rerooted and relocked. Installed no accounts on reboot. Installed Google account afterwards with same calendar and contact setting auto sync only. No Google +, no Google now, NO Google voice. No gmail. No pulse no clipboard no AP. Researched and installed Taptu in lieu of Pulse. Installed Aqua mail as email client for three email accounts(at least now I can change the account an email is sent from after beginning to compose an email!). Reinstalled Evernote, drop box, Google drive (manual sync for all three). Did NOT reinstall Juice Defender.
Battery use, when left untouched for an hour is almost NIL! (Still says charged) After 2 hours phone is at 98% or 99% when before it could be 82-88%. This is a revelation. 35 minutes of playing granny smith consumes 10% of battery, interpolation (all I can go on at this point) would mean almost 5 hours of constant screen use and less with standby time . WiFi, data, Bluetooth (not in use) enabled. NFC disabled and same settings as mentioned above.
Explanations: Google voice could be a severe drain, but I will not install yet until I am convinced it's innocuous as I am afraid an install and uninstall could "mess things up" with the OS. OR Google + and Google Now can not be installed and then uninstalled without leaving something running in the OS contributing to battery drain. OR pulse, flipboard and ap are not behaving well in manual sync modes.OR the wipe and reinstall via Wugroot has eliminated a bug from original factory setup. Regardless, the phone battery use appears in line with the positive experiences of those in these forums. I suggest, as much of a pain it might be, to give this a whirl if you are technically inclined. Please note all data will be wiped by this process and while I backed everything up via wugroot in case of a disaster scenario, I did not restore ANY data from those backups for the reflash of 4.2.1 and reroot, relock process.
Don't use juice defender, only does more harm than good.

It is actually a last resort for those whom are unauthorized, intimidated or unsure about reflashing the OS onto their device. Therefore, while it may do more harm than good on a device with little issue (i.e, no software apps or OS bugs), it actually helps those with such problems until they root out (couldn't resist) the source of the problem and move on. Again, reread my post as I discontinued its use after the reinstall of the OS.
I dosabled google play services cause it eats up my ram and battery but im not sure what it does. My phone is still running fine.. Should i enable it back?
Also what is "devices"? What does it do and can i disable it as well?
Any other useless system running apps i can disable? Thanks.
I think Google play services is linked with Google Play Store, I'd be hesitant about to disable it.
Even if you disabled Google Play Service to get more free ram, Google Play will ask about it at the right time when you try to connect to it.
Ok so first day without the annoying google play service and i noticed a massive improvement in battery life. Before i was getting an hour of standby time per 1 percent battery. Now i got 7 hours from 100-99%. And then dont know why but the succeeding was about 3 hours per 1 percent after that. Still, massive improvement. I am currently on 2 hours screen on time. Surfing, youtube, gaming and texting. I still got 65% battery.
I can still use google playstore without problems. First time i clicked youtube it said i need to update and enable gp services for app to run but i ignored it and it is still perfectly fine. The notice doesnt come the 2nd time you clicked the app so all good. Same goes with maps. No prob at all.
So my conclusion is that google play services is nothing but bloat trying to steal your info every once in a while hence, the battery drain. Try it and you will see what i mean!
Hello,
I have a new Xperia Z3 Compact.
I have bought it 7 - 8 days ago.
OS: 4.4.4 (23.0.A.93)
- Network was adjusted as 3G/2G in % 50 of total period, and next % 50 period only 2G
- Stamina mode was always active
- Autosynch: Off
- Brightness: Auto (about % 20 setting)
- Below is my screenshots.
- They say that this is not enought for a Z3 compact.
- So please what is your advice for improving my battery life.
Thanks
Umm, it doesn't get much better than that.
I m getting 0,2% per hour at idle
- Sync off, default settings for most of them
- Google settings disabled for most of them
- Bloatwares disabled through ADB, see the related thread somewhere in Z3 Compact section
- Most of notifications from apps have been disabled
- Apps that attempt to sync or send datas, disable those options
- Wifi sets as not always (2nd option)
- Install BBS and see the amount of awake and if there are suspicious wakelocks (only kernel)
To sum up, disable most of Google services, its one of most reasons for battery life draining
Do not use them unless you need it (i only use Gmail, Books and Maps)
Is it really necessary to disable so much of the functionality? I have Google Now enabled, sync on, stamina mode enabled, and get 2 to 3 days usage with between 4 and 6 hours of screen on time.
I am attempting to avoid Google services and apps
Google and their own services are the main cause of battery life drain, they implemented their apps and services in a way of making it as indispensable.
In the other hand, i have perfectly stable system and my phone would last more longer and doesn't waste battery life at idle
Is this a joke?
It has to be i think
I agree that this is pretty good tbh, but in trying to help: have you disabled or uninstalled all the extra apps that you don't use? There's a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/apps-disabled-boot-t2892919
Removing Facebook is a must for me as I prefer to use or within a browser and like another has said above I also disable Google apps that I don't personally use (in my car Books, Games, Movies & Newsstand). Sony have also put their own apps on the phone, many of which duplicate the functions of Google apps such as messaging, Walkman or are just unnecessary such as Account Manager, Info Eye, Video Unlimited.

Thanks for your reply. I have already done what you mentioned. And i am checking your link now
Who said that it has 10 days of battery usages? Ofc put it on ultra stamia mod and don't use the phone you have you're 10 days. Otherwise you can't expect a smartphone to last that long it's not possible.

You got nearly 3 days of use with more than 3 hours of calls and 4.5 hours of SOT and stil 37% left. Its almost miraculous. I dont get anywhere near that. I never saw anyone who did.
But then you ask how you can improve it!...thats why i ask if its a joke because surely you cant be serious
I buyed this phone because it is a smartphone. If I needed only battery life I would buy a nokia 1100. So, what's the catch paying 400 euros on a phone and use it like a 20 euros phone? It seems hilarious to me.

as i explained that was why i bought this phone. for 10 days standby time.
so as far as i see it is not true
It will give you 10 days, Probably more. If you do not use it at all. The quoted times are always BS figures that are practically unachievable in the real world. But I have to agree with others here, if you want a phone that can give you 10 days of use, by a Nokia featurephone.
What part of "standby" is hard to understand? Believe the estimated battery life. That should give you a good idea. If you really do keep your phone in standby you may even go upto 15 or more days. But it should be standby in the purest sense.
Getting more than 3 days with a few screen hours is easily feasible, but getting more than that is impossible.
The Stamina widget did give me 12 days once but it was a mistake I think, a little glitch in the matrix :silly:
Whats up with people buying a Compact and then expecting miracles? Its already unbelievable good.
Don't forget about GSM singal strength. If you are close to BTS and have ~90% of signal strength and not using your phone you maybe will get 10 days .
It is similar like fuel consumption in car catalog it is always lower then in real usage..
Best Regards.
I love the phone, but actual use doesn't drain the battery quickly, but standby does. I use avast battery saver, and it doesn't help. Over 20 minutes I lost 2 percent, or 1 percent every 45 minutes. It's annoying how quickly it drains. I have the unlocked edition with 6.0 for two days now, and battery life hasn't improved. Ive wiped the cache and have done a reset, but to no avail. Should I root and go to a different ROM, or try something else? thanks.
What kind of apps do you have installed? Have you gone into the battery details to see what's using the battery? I have had CM 13 and like it, but can't really tell much difference between it and stock besides having much better control and customization, things that I find it hard to live without (granted, I only had stock 6 for a few hours).

AH this is my other account, but i have instagram and snapchat being the only auto refresh apps, and snapchat only loads when i open it so it doesnt sync when its on standby, and ive reinstalled instagram. Without it, nothing changes. So im at a loss as to changing roms or sticking with stock
Have you looked at the 'Battery' section in settings to see what it says about per-app usage? It lists the apps by how much each one has used, and gives useful information about how long each one has been active, how many times it has woken the phone, etc..... Not sure about stock, but in CM13 it even estimates how many mAh each one has used. I would try to figure out what exactly is using the battery before switching to a custom rom (unless you're wanting to switch anyway), because there's a chance that if it's a specific app that's causing the drain it will still do it on a custom rom. I would also get rid of any battery or system managers, savers, optimizers etc... I'm not saying that none of them ever work, but obviously they're not working for you, and could be part of the problem.
I don't lose any more than 5 percent overnight on CM13. There are only 3 issues [that I am aware of] that you may have going from stock to Cyanogenmod: Moto voice doesn't work (OK Google does), Android Pay probably won't work, and if you use Google Cardboard you'll have to change the dpi settings in display options, which is no big deal. The one thing that I miss from stock is Moto voice and being able to wake the phone with my customized hot phrase. Other than that everything 'just works' and is smooth, stable and super fast. And gets an update almost every day.
