Hello,
I have a new Xperia Z3 Compact.
I have bought it 7 - 8 days ago.
OS: 4.4.4 (23.0.A.93)
- Network was adjusted as 3G/2G in % 50 of total period, and next % 50 period only 2G
- Stamina mode was always active
- Autosynch: Off
- Brightness: Auto (about % 20 setting)
- Below is my screenshots.
- They say that this is not enought for a Z3 compact.
- So please what is your advice for improving my battery life.
Thanks
Umm, it doesn't get much better than that.
I m getting 0,2% per hour at idle
- Sync off, default settings for most of them
- Google settings disabled for most of them
- Bloatwares disabled through ADB, see the related thread somewhere in Z3 Compact section
- Most of notifications from apps have been disabled
- Apps that attempt to sync or send datas, disable those options
- Wifi sets as not always (2nd option)
- Install BBS and see the amount of awake and if there are suspicious wakelocks (only kernel)
To sum up, disable most of Google services, its one of most reasons for battery life draining
Do not use them unless you need it (i only use Gmail, Books and Maps)
Is it really necessary to disable so much of the functionality? I have Google Now enabled, sync on, stamina mode enabled, and get 2 to 3 days usage with between 4 and 6 hours of screen on time.
I am attempting to avoid Google services and apps
Google and their own services are the main cause of battery life drain, they implemented their apps and services in a way of making it as indispensable.
In the other hand, i have perfectly stable system and my phone would last more longer and doesn't waste battery life at idle
Is this a joke?
It has to be i think
I agree that this is pretty good tbh, but in trying to help: have you disabled or uninstalled all the extra apps that you don't use? There's a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/apps-disabled-boot-t2892919
Removing Facebook is a must for me as I prefer to use or within a browser and like another has said above I also disable Google apps that I don't personally use (in my car Books, Games, Movies & Newsstand). Sony have also put their own apps on the phone, many of which duplicate the functions of Google apps such as messaging, Walkman or are just unnecessary such as Account Manager, Info Eye, Video Unlimited.

Thanks for your reply. I have already done what you mentioned. And i am checking your link now
Who said that it has 10 days of battery usages? Ofc put it on ultra stamia mod and don't use the phone you have you're 10 days. Otherwise you can't expect a smartphone to last that long it's not possible.

You got nearly 3 days of use with more than 3 hours of calls and 4.5 hours of SOT and stil 37% left. Its almost miraculous. I dont get anywhere near that. I never saw anyone who did.
But then you ask how you can improve it!...thats why i ask if its a joke because surely you cant be serious
I buyed this phone because it is a smartphone. If I needed only battery life I would buy a nokia 1100. So, what's the catch paying 400 euros on a phone and use it like a 20 euros phone? It seems hilarious to me.

as i explained that was why i bought this phone. for 10 days standby time.
so as far as i see it is not true
It will give you 10 days, Probably more. If you do not use it at all. The quoted times are always BS figures that are practically unachievable in the real world. But I have to agree with others here, if you want a phone that can give you 10 days of use, by a Nokia featurephone.
What part of "standby" is hard to understand? Believe the estimated battery life. That should give you a good idea. If you really do keep your phone in standby you may even go upto 15 or more days. But it should be standby in the purest sense.
Getting more than 3 days with a few screen hours is easily feasible, but getting more than that is impossible.
The Stamina widget did give me 12 days once but it was a mistake I think, a little glitch in the matrix :silly:
Whats up with people buying a Compact and then expecting miracles? Its already unbelievable good.
Don't forget about GSM singal strength. If you are close to BTS and have ~90% of signal strength and not using your phone you maybe will get 10 days .
It is similar like fuel consumption in car catalog it is always lower then in real usage..
Best Regards.

If you just turn the phone on and watch videos for 10 hours, I'm sure you could do that. You can't look at reviews and think that their battery tests (which don't mimic real use) are gospel. I just had my first day with the Z3C with AT&T service. Long story short, I'm getting the same battery life on my Z3C that I had on my Razr Maxx HD. And that's with location reporting on and brightness at 75 or 80%. On my RMHD location reporting was off and brightness was around 50%. I took it off the charger at 6am, it's 8pm now and I'm at 63%. 2 hours SoT.
If this was my Moto X I'd be at 15% or less.

Yeah, I know that's where you got the 10 hours number from. However, typical "real life usage" doesn't mean having the screen on for 10 hours. For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts and music. If I didn't I could probably double my screen on time. Stuff runs in the background and uses power as well. Battery life isn't just screen on time.
did you have a SIM card inserted? I noticed they didn't have a SIM card in theirs. This may turn off the cellular antennas
The problem with these synthetic tests is its repeating the same thing over and over again. Things like caching start coming into play
They didnt have a sim in? Thats pretty much invalidates the 10 hours number for sure. Cell service always drains more battery than wifi.

He has the phone in ultra stamina mode. If you wanna turn your smartphone into a dumbphone and have it last a week go ahead. Im gonna get two days out of one charge. Probably around 4 or 5 hours SoT, along with 6 or 7 hours of listening to podcasts and/or music. 10 to 12 hours of actual usage over two days is pretty pimp in my book. Im plenty happy with that. Dont know what to tell you.

Well. I'm basing this off of the screenshot they posted (I don't even know what that screenshot is trying to show). They really didn't say in their article. You can see the "no SIM" icon at the top and they're on WiFi.
I doubt they ran the test with a SIM card and 4g/LTE, and then went through the trouble of taking the SIM out and enabling WiFi before taking the screenshot.
Regardless, the battery life is good enough for me. Best from a phone I've ever had.

Sony says you can get 1-2 days on a charge with no battery saving modes on, 3-4 days with stamina mode, and up to a week with ultra stamina mode. Dude is on day 6 in that screen shot, so draw your own conclusions there. Plus, like another poster said, he's not on 4G or HSPA. Of course he'll have crazy battery life. My old flip phones used to last 3-4 days easily as well.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you think that the battery in the Z3C sucks, fair enough. I, however, am more than happy with a phone that gets the same battery life as my Razr Maxx HD. The Z3C has brightness turned up higher, and EVERYTHING on (except bluetooth), whereas the RMHD didn't. After one full day and 5 hours of actual use (2 hours SoT and 3 hours of audio listening with Pocket Casts) I'm at exactly 50%. Didn't charge the phone overnight. Gonna use it like normal today, see if I can get 2 full days with no battery saving mode turned on, 10 hours actual use.

Most of the other settings stayed at stock. The governor (interactive) was tweaked using heimdall's tweaks ( posted in z5 themes and apps section by a user, along with those power tweaks and setprop tweaks)
I felt amplify made most of the magic here. Helped a lot with wakelocks. Searched the net for guide to use amplify and it worked brilliantly. Phone was down to 50% and I had an SOT of 4.5+ hours.
Will try the new kernel and let you know in a day or two. I am pretty sure the kernel would work better if I gave it a day to settle.
For the previous kernel which I was testing, it was it's first run.

Best for me is 4:48 as reported by Battery Monitor Widget, but mostly is 3D games so I think is pretty good
I have my Phone 3 hours off Power, Battery goes down to 60% and the main app draining power is the Display with 17% as per the battery consumption chart.
In the Details to the batteryconsumption of the display it says the display was on for 1:35, however I hardly turned it on.
That is the same since LP and even with MM I reset already 3 times. no change.
I would love the meet someone with that great performance. mine seems just broken :/

Actually I hope so. I am one step away from rooting my phone and hope that this might help, especially with greenify having root access.
The device is almost unusable anymore with this battery life. I factory reset once a week, don't even have many apps or do much with it but it still lasts just half a day.
After a factory reset the first 2-3 days are almost fine up to one day.
I dont even think 2 days are possible if I don't activate the whole time...

I wonder if the lack of proper tmous radio tuning leads the phone to drain on LTE... Have noticed more drain (phone doesn't seem to have doze lines anymore even though BBS shows doze..) after rooting/xposed. So much that I uninstalled xposed as a test.
Going to try dropping back to HSPA and see if its better.

Hmmmm may be onto something here, right away I'm noticing that Yappy is not hanging on sending messages. What I think was happening for me was low LTE signal was causing Yappy to wake up every minute to restart itself. Not sure why Yappy wasn't showing in battery settings, but my phone seems to be connected now that I'm on a 'stable network'. Really wish we could get the tuning on tmous :/
I'm getting average 7-9 hours SOT with my Xperia Z5 Dual E6683... btw is it normal for the GPS indicator at the battery usage page to show that it's constantly turned on throughout the whole day eventhough it's turned off?

Aaaand nope, got the fast dormancy wakelocks and battery drained faster than before. Reflashing the stock system and wiping cache now to see if I can get doze lines again.
Edit: Battery is better but I think because of things I did after reflashing. Installed WLD since I have root now and noticed that google maps (and later android pay) were generating NLP wakelocks, so cleared data on google maps since I have location reporting off already and then denied location to android pay and it seems to be back to normal. If this is stable for a few days I may try Xposed again.
On average daily use with WiFi on and location enabled most of the time I will get 5 hours SOT. I have pushed it close to 6 with reducing my brightness to almost nothing and only using the phone for messaging. Several factors will affect SOT. For me getting group messages or picture messages drops battery life. Using Chrome also drops it.

Are you asking the app usage in the day? Funny enough my battery life today was a definite miss but it got me through the workday and that's all I need.
Nah I meant like what apps do you have that are non-stock..
But looks like my phone is back to not dozing.. losing ~10% overnight, where I used to lose 3%. Looks like I'm getting the Mobile Radio Active bug displaying through google play services. Clearing caches of apps that appear to be causing it as I go...
This is a little trick for those talking about battery life that hasn't really been discussed anywhere.
On my old S5 I tried this out and got AMAZING battery life.
Standby time was around 14 days (phone on)
SOT test was well over 6 hours (running a youtube playlist .. known as the "high on android SOT test" - link http://highonandroid.com/highonandroid-sot-test/ )
..and it is all to do with syncing and apps
basic gist, factory reset .. don't setup your google or samsung account, just skip
install apps you want to use via apk's downloaded to your phone (or preferably transferred via usb from your pc)
don't use any apps that want to connect to the internet and sync in the backgorund (i.e. email, facebook, etc do all that via you phones browser e.g. chrome)
what this achieves is your phone isn't constantly pulling information from the net to either update your apps (via google play / samsung apps or just updating the information contained within the app e.g. emails)
battery life is staggering
sorry i don't have any pictures anymore of the battery life graphs as I sold the phone recently
but this is something to keep in mind, and for those who want to try it let me know how you go!
Ah ah ah..

i'm pretty sure that your battery is dead
Good tips for those who want better battery life but I guess I'm okay with 1-1.5 day standby, 5 hour SoT, and apps being downloaded from Play and synced continuously and save huge amount of time and complication rather than installing apks one by one! Also the phone charges more or less fast too.
Hmm...!
I found the part about downloading APK and manually install them is rather ridiculous, not to mention unsafe. Wouldn't just turn on airplane mode all the time or at least turn off mobile data/wifi would yield similar result. Taking battery off is rather stupid, the phone wouldn't be standby. But I think if you want a Note (Android phone w/ stylus) and long battery life, I think you are better off using a Note 2 or Note 3, as they are not using 4K screen. And combined with large battery pack and turning off mobile data would be a big improvement w/o much sacrifice. As you can still get update to app and data via wifi. Not to mention if you are close enough to get wifi, you probably are nearby power outlet to charge your phone. Of course if you are in an area where both cell and wifi signal are unstable, then turn on airplane or completely turnoff the phone is ideal to save the battery life as the phone is not in constant of checking for better cell & wifi signal. Use common sense, people, not ridiculous strategy. I buy and use the phone/accessories to fit my life(style), not fit my life to make the phone stay on standby for 14 days.
But that's not all, if you order now we also remove all icons from the home screen, set a black wallpaper and completely disable the sound.
Isn't that amazing Mike?

Or you can do this, without loose anything.. Perhaps you wont have 16 days standby, but 10 you can make (if you are not using the phone), and you will still have a smartphone.
I have actually follow many things from there and see much much better battery..

I wouldn't be so sure about it, after a few factory resets on stock rom, it was still the same about 1 hour most. Now I decided to flash a clean stock rom using odin, so far have 1,5 hour with 45% left... I wonder if sd card could be the culprit... as I removed it before doing everything and didn't put it back in, or maybe it was some rogue nonsense in system as system UI was the biggest drain before, uptime for nearly 8 hours...
this isnt a tip
waste of time
like turn off all the functionality i WANT and USE, so my battery life is "amazing"
lol
do us a favour
save YOUR battery by turning your phone off
?
With note 4, you can permanently activate ultra saving mode and it wouldn't have the same effect?

This is a little trick for those talking about battery life that hasn't really been discussed anywhere.
On my old S5 I tried this out and got AMAZING battery life.
Standby time was around 14 days (phone on)
SOT test was well over 6 hours (running a youtube playlist .. known as the "high on android SOT test" - link http://highonandroid.com/highonandroid-sot-test/ )
..and it is all to do with syncing and apps
basic gist, factory reset .. don't setup your google or samsung account, just skip
install apps you want to use via apk's downloaded to your phone (or preferably transferred via usb from your pc)
don't use any apps that want to connect to the internet and sync in the backgorund (i.e. email, facebook, etc do all that via you phones browser e.g. chrome)
what this achieves is your phone isn't constantly pulling information from the net to either update your apps (via google play / samsung apps or just updating the information contained within the app e.g. emails)
battery life is staggering
sorry i don't have any pictures anymore of the battery life graphs as I sold the phone recently
but this is something to keep in mind, and for those who want to try it let me know how you go!

ok, without gmail , facebook, game, email, instagram ... why i need a smart phone ??!!!!
Hi guys,
The main reason I moved from OnePlus 3T to this Moto X4 is for the great battery life. But ever since i bought the phone i am not running on good mileage. It is rather decent but battery percentage decreases quite a lot. Unable to find the right culprit for this.
Currently I have rooted and running Magisk and running on Oreo (Retin, XT1900-2 India).
It goes from 90 to about 15 percent in a day with decent Whatsapp, Facebook (app changed to Fella), and Messenger, and from time to time I use Google drive, watch little video clips (low quality from Whatsapp).
Screen time is about 3-4 hours, in the span of 24 hours. My home is situated in a half sort of signal zone (constant 4G network, no 3G or 2G, Jio network) and 90 percent of the time I use Wifi (ac/n).
In contrast I have a Xiaomi Redmi 5A (office use, costs 77 usd currently) runs for 3-4 days on a single charge!
In Magisk I tried the Google GMS core (i think thats the name) doze and it freezes my Whatsapp notifications and others, I need these notifications, so I disabled and am running normally.
Is there a particular thing that I can use or test or try out to find out what is going on in my phone? OR would you consider that this is usual for this phone?

Nope, it's not normal. With wifi usage I get 7.5 hrs SOT on average. When I am out of station, I use Jio sim for accessing internet. I also use gps and maps in such case and still manage to get 6 hrs of SOT.
Thanks for that confirmation. Looks like something would be wrong then with the hardware.
There's something really wrong with your x4.
I have more or less the same daily usage and in the end of the day I still have more than 50% of battery.
i'm not usung my phone heavy, but always on bluetooth, wifi, momile data and gps, checking facebook instagram and those others social media few times throu the day, sometimes pokemon go. and i have 4-5h on screen time. max 20h in total (android 7.1.1 reteu)
Moto display is culprit
This phone has bad battery life. My moto g5 plus last longer.
yes i can confirm this behaviour. i guess this is largely after the oreo update and even before the update i didn't like the battery life as much which was may be the case because i was coming from yu yunicorn with 4000 mAh battery. so i don't know may be it's the oreo update issue or may be it's only a few models like ours that are affected. either way i'm really concerned as i'm really in love with this phone and don't wanna get a new one any time soon... ?
IDK how much it helps but go into developer settings and disable mobile data always active. It was on by default after I updated to oreo
Wow. I just picked up this phone, X4, to take advantage of a Sprint special.... The 2 days I have had it, the battery has been horrible. I turned off Moto display so I'll see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't have Facebook or any other social media app. I have 1 hour 39 minutes of SOT today and I'm at 15% battery. I'm seeing reports the Oreo update is when this started. Hoping this can get fixed with Pie and soon!
Any tips or tricks would be great! Thanks.
Here is an overnight view on WiFi. So 14 minutes of SOT with Google play services using 35% battery. Any suggestions? This is really hard to believe. I'm likely going to try and return phone I guess.
Did you reset your phone or restore backup?
Hello. Yes, I did a factory reset at the end of day 1. I just turned off background activity for Google play services so hopefully that will help.
Looking at the OnePlus 10 pro on paper, it has everything you would possibly need to achieve incredible screen on times.
The idea behind this besides some healthy competition is to whittle out the bugs and battery draining apps and habits.... in the hope that we all benefit from the knowledge learned and gathered.

If you'd like to register an SOT, you will need to provide a screen shot of your battery stats using the stock battery app, clearly showing the up time and screen usage time and app list.
Your OS, kernel if different from stock (no screen shot required)
NOTE*** Without this proof, your name and score won't be added.
That's it

Some tips for better battery life.
Change 5G to 4G
Remove Facebook use web based
Remove Facebook messenger use web based
Remove Twitter use web based
Remove any ad based apps pay for the pro version
Turn off gestures like lift to wake
Change from QHD to FHD (No difference)
Allow auto brightness
Turn off WiFi overnight
Turn all updates to manual not auto (play store)
Remove any so you don't use
Change back up to once a month (WhatsApp)
Turn off location history (Google)
Use titanium to remove any system apps you don't need
Don't allow anonymous usage statistics for any app ever.
Don't allow tracking cookies on any website
Use adaway (root needed)
Don't open web pages in Google app (I use Samsung browser)
Don't use xposed.
If you game you will not get high SOT scores, period.
Don't bother with battery saving apps or monitoring apps.
Streamline your apps, if you don't use it, remove it.
Don't allow WiFi scanning (as in letting other apps use it when it's not on)
Never allow personalised ads.
Never allow notifications from websites
Always decline cookies unless your absolutely have to allow some tracking (common sense prevails here)
Optimise as many apps as possible unless it affects performance.
Don't allow apps to remain open in the notification area.
Change your launcher, my preferred launcher is lawn chair and this did actually burn up some battery when compared to the OnePlus launcher.
Don't use live widgets (yes they look cool, but they annihilate your battery)
Live wallpaper, again very cool, but battery burners.
Again! Don't charge overnight, make a note of your percentage then see what it is in the morning, you shouldn't be losing more than 5% really, if you've done well then it'll be reflected here, the good SOT results will follow.
Turn off live read outs of network speed, RAM usage in the status bar.
Turn off NFC unless in use.
Leave location on in quick settings.
Don't overcharge your phone, IE: overnight
Don't allow your phone to fully deplete the battery.
Whatever anyone says, this does 100% damage batteries, there is no argument here and I won't entertain anyone who says otherwise, Ive seen through real life tests what this results in, bloated, inefficient, possibly dangerous lithium batteries.
Keep your phone out the sun.
Keep it out of extreme cold.
Keep your device clean and dust free.
Snapchat, Viber, house party, apps like that tend to use more battery as they don't have great dormancy periods, use them if required and get rid.
Apps like speed test by Ookla tend to have location tracking, similarly they tend to turn themselves on and off when they feel like it, my advice, install test and uninstall.
Allow a couple of battery cycles between tweaking sets, to give you an idea of how much of a difference you've made.
Use BBS to see what is being used, once you've removed problems, remove BBS.
I've just written this from the top of my head so I've probably missed some things, the general idea is to keep your device clean and fresh, remove files / apps / mods / widgets / features you don't need any more.
Keep an eye on apps that misbehave or aren't wanted, index your folders so they aren't a mess.
The more good things you do means the more potentially bad apps you can have on your phone, eg if you really need Facebook, you could keep it so long as you clean up other areas of your phone.
Hope this helps.

I'll put it up as there's none up and a believable time.
Changed over to lawnchair 2 and holy moly the difference has been amazing.
0% lost overnight 8 hours
Currently on 4 hours with normal usage, it's heading for a ridiculous screen on time.
6 hours and 2 minutes with 41% used.
Crazy

Not that I've noticed.. its just the one from the play store. I think it's 2. Could be wrong, certainly more efficient than anything else I've tried.
I'm just happy I've managed to get my phone to be dropping 0% overnight, that's how it should be.
My 8 pro used to take about 4-8% overnight

Gonna try out Lawnchair launcher and see if it helps my phone too
Most recently I now have 8 hours SOT with 12% battery left. Feels good gonna try to empty the battery to 1-2% and report back the SOT here once again.

I got 2 % drain overnight 8 hours, which is ok for me with everything I got installed (airplane mode).
I wonder whether I will try lawnchair too, but I am using Nova for years

Comparing the two I prefer lawnchair, nova is a little too flicky for my liking, I prefer smooth transitions and fluidity rather than overly quick and flicky, you'll know what I mean when you install it 2% is still 2-6% better than the 8 pro..

It's nuts I'm on 7+ hours with 52% left.
Haven't been doing anything special, just using my phone.

Try disabling Google play Services when not needed. It has a bunch of power sucking dependencies. I disable more Google system apps than that on my N10+, but disabling play services may be enough to tone it down especially at night.
Use manual brightness control and keep below 50%.
Social media apps should never be installed for a variety of reasons including excessive battery consumption... just saying.

I agree buddy, but I'm not sure I need to disable anything else.... At this rate I'll have 14 hours SOT..
Have a look at the second post for my idea of keeping the battery down
But then again, could always have more...
So when you disable Google play services. What method are you using?
Just literally disable it?

Agreed, it sounds optimized to me! Hell yeah.
Most Android phones need to be optimized to get best performance... just the way it is.
I go to settings>apps, search for play, then disable/enable it there. I use it 2-3 [email protected] day, sometimes less.
If the disable option is grayed out, go to security and disable Find my Device as a system Administrator.
So many big sister Gookill system apps I hate...

Just done it but getting a lot of dings every time I unlock, little annoying tbh. I'm just wondering is the call to open services actually using battery ? I dunno. Perhaps if there wasn't a load of notifications..
I'll leave it for this cycle and maybe see how it compares next time, I'm not out over the weekend so have a good location to get fault results.

On my phone it can suck up to 1+%@hr with screen on... so it adds up. No reasoning with it.
You can kill those very annoying notifications; Gmaps, Gmail, do it; disable notifications. There may be more depending on your configuration.
Leave the warning running and when you disable notifications in the right app... it will stop. Instant gratification
