I think my internal antenna may be damaged and i want to take it into Sprint to be looked at, but my phone is rooted with S-Off. Do i have to undo everything and bring it back to stock in order for them to look at and if there is a problem, fix my phone? thanks
They are supposed to fix it rooted or not as long as it's a hardware problem
I work at a repair center and he is correct but in this situation it's irrelevant. This phone is unrepairable. If there is a hardware issue the only option a repair center has is to order a replacement. If you don't want that done then you can use your HTC warranty. But you will have to ship your phone to HTC and be without it for at least 2 weeks. They will attempt to fix it and if it can't be fixed then they will replace your device which you would lose everything. So just use your insurance. Last I checked, the device is still new enough to receive a new device instead of a refurbished device. When in doubt, Return your phone to stock and have it replaced.

Why do you think your antennae doesn't work?

I'm rocking a refurb I got 3 months after release. A lot of people returned their initial phones it appears.
My 2¢
Return it to stock. Goto Sprint store. They'll order you a new one and it'll hit your door in 2-3 days. My phone blew the top speaker. The repair center did the order, I tracked it with the number they provided to my email and I was back in business in only a few days.

Damn I didnt even think about the fact that it is not repairable, I'm assuming because of its 1-piece aluminium body or whatever. So, if they can't open it up to see if it is the internal hardware are they going to assume that it is because I rooted and/or made it s-off? or is there some way they will be able to tell if it is hardware related without actually opening up the phone?

My issue is that all of a sudden i have no service anywhere, including places that I used to. I've always had great service with sprint, until the last few weeks. I'll be on 3G or 4G with full bars and i'll drop the call. I've literally had more dropped calls in the past few weeks than i have had the entire 5 years i've been with sprint, combined. That's not an exaggeration. There hasn't been any change to any towers nearby and I haven't relocated or anything. Sprint said i should be getting great service where in and around where i live. So I'd imagine that it has to be the phone. It's been rooted with S-off long before this started happening. So i feel like it has to be something hardware related. I'm open to other suggestions.

i'm not quit sure the procedure on this phone, usually an RUU and then a factory reset from stock recovery will restore radio function.
there may be another way of restoring radio function, not sure, may someone who knows for sure can chime in here.this may or may not be your problem but it couldn't hurt to try

can you guys check out my thread in the marketplace because I really dont want to sell my d3, I just want to fix it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432260
I looked at your other thread and it seems you have a hardware problem with this phone. Unless this phone has a bad ESN, you should be bringing it back for a replacement. Even if you bought this phone off eBay, it would still be covered under the manufacturers warranty, but I suspect you already know this. It sounds more like you are trying to pawn off a broken phone that can't be activated or replaced to a fellow XDAer, that's not cool!

No this has been my daily phone for almost 2 months now, clean esn and everything. The only thing that is kinda stopping me is it has not been activated with Verizon and has only been on pageplus.

Well I originally got it off of craigslist for a decent price and I cant afford Verizon directly so I did some research and got it on pageplus. Pageplus actually uses Verizon towers, so I only pay $30 a month for 1,200 Minutes / 3,000 SMS/MMS / 100 MB Data on verizon service (win!), and of the 100mb of data I dont use much because im always on wifi. Also im not locked in a contract for 2 years (another win!).
Good job getting a win on Verizon. I don't care for them much, though I dislike AT&T worse, so when T-Mobile goes, that's where I'll be taking my D3 most likely.
So, as I asked on your other thread, I'll ask here; have you tried hooking your phone up to a PC and tried the fast/easy unbrick method I mentioned? It saved my ass and put my phone back to stock. It's in the D3 dev forum. Might work for you, if it's a software issue. If it really is a hardware issue (other than something which is not covered by warranty, e.g., your fault), you should be able to return it for repair/replacement from the manufacturer. Call their customer service/go to their website to find out more (if you can't fix it via the unbrick method). Then maybe you can sell a working, brand new/refurbished device instead of one which may never work again.

I apologize for being sceptical of your intentions, there are just a lot of con men out these days trying to take advantage. The warranty I was referring to is Motorola's warranty. You can contact them directly for a replacement as the phone comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty. You don't have to have a contract with Verizon for this warranty to be valid. As long as the phone has a clean ESN they have to replace it for hardware malfunctions.

Hi everybody! My One has been in the service center for a week after getting hard bricked for no reason, and repair hasn't been started yet, and they're giving me an ETA of a week or two more So, if any of you is in any way related to HTC, could you pm me a number or an email ID, which isn't ignored, to talk or send a message to convince htc to get my phone repaired quick or give me a replacement? Talking/chat with any of the higher authorities, who actually care about customers would do.
Thanks
Hopefully I'll get them convinced

I bought my phone with a carrier that I'm no longer with so they aren't doing anything. I was forced to use HTC.
I guess it wasn't that bad since I had a backup.
And the ETA was given by the call center people , who don't know ***t about anything. The service center guys are saying that it may take two weeks or more because of shortage of parts. Why don't they replace the damn phone if they're gonna replace the most expensive parts anyways? Btw, my phone has a faulty mobo, camera, and speakers.

How do you have that many things wrong with the phone? They almost never replace the phone because (according to them) it changes the IMEI number of the phone. It does do that, but how the heck does it even matter? HTC support is useless IMO.

I don't bloody know. I took proper care of the phone, it was never out of a case and it never fell. And believe it or not, this is the third time I'm having a problem with this phone And if the mobo is changed, the IMEI is changed anyways, so what difference does it make? HTC support is always like "I'm sorry sir, but we can't do anything for you right now. Please check back in a week" it driving me crazy

By here, I'm assuming you mean where you live. I guess I asked them to not change it (I would have to get another unlock code) so thats probably why,.
So I recently bought my M8 and would love to root, but there have been a lot of reports of issues with data because of csfb issues. I have not had this issue, but if I do start having it or any other issue, I want to be able to go back to stock and return my phone to Sprint. I am currently in the 14 day return period and I have insurance. On my last phone, I was rooted and was having issues with my battery and went back to Sprint, and the guy there told me that he could not work on it if it was rooted. He was a pretty cool guy, but he made is sound like it was a really big deal that I rooted. I have searched on all the Sprint M8 threads and I can't find a way to go back to stock. And I mean completely stock. Finding a stock ROM, Kernel, and recovery is easy, but I am not sure about s-on and locking the bootloader. I don't want the bootloader to say "re-locked" at the top because that is a dead giveaway that I unlocked. Is there currently no way to go completely stock?
As of now there is no public RUU and without that you won't get completely back to stock.
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
You don't need an RUU for your device to "look" stock. Restore that stock nandroid that's floating around, flash stock recovery, and take the OTA.
As long as you're S-OFF, you can change the flag to LOCKED and then go back S-ON.

Basically people are having issues with connection. I'm not going to fully explain this because it is quite complicated and to be honest, I don't even fully understand it. But because this is a tri band phone (sprint spark) it relies on the network to tell it when you switch from different bands and when to switch from an LTE connection back to a 1x connection for voice calls. The phone only has one data transmission path, so it can't be connected to LTE and 1x (voice network) at the same time. It has to be one or the other. That's why you can't use mobile data while in a call. This works perfectly fine when the tower you are connected to has been upgraded and has the correct csfb fallback switches in place. But the problem is, a lot of towers don't. This causes huge problems for spark phones. All spark phones have this issue; the. Samsung Galaxy s5, LG G2,and the Nexus 5. But a lot of people have been having issues with this phone being really bad. Sometimes people can't receive/send texts or calls, and sometimes they can't connect to mobile data at all, no matter where they go. Originally it was thought to be an issue with sprint and what I described earlier, but people noticed that if they swapped out the phone for a new one, the issue went away. This isn't true for everyone, but that solved the issues for a lot of people. The general idea now is that it mainly seemed to affect people that ordered the M8 online early on. It doesn't seem to be affecting the phones bought from stores recently as much. Someone also claimed that the phones were provisioned incorrectly and that was causing it. But nobody really knows. If you are having an issue like I described, I would go back to where you bought it from and tell them you want to exchange it.
Also, if someone notices anything I said was incorrect, please call me out on it. As far as I know it's all correct, but I could easily be wrong.

I don't want to sound like a total idiot, but I guess their no way around it, I haven't used a HTC product since my Hero days, So let me make sure I understand what you are saying, flash my stock rooted nandroid, find a stock recovery zip and flash, then do I used terminal to lock my bootloader, or do I flash another zip? Then where does the OTA come in at? Now after reading this and the rolling of the eyes, I just wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake, and this will have me back to stock without root ? I will like to thanks in advance for your patients.

Good explanation. On my note 3 I was consistently hitting no less than 10 mbps at my house. On my M8 I was getting 2-20 MBPS at my house, with NO consistency. No issues with calling/texting, however. I recieved my M8 on the 11th (same day as the s5 came out, expecting chaos) and was getting okay signal in my house. Now a few days later it seems someone is pointing a cell phone jammer at me. I lose connection completely, then it goes back to slow speeds, about twice per minute. Same thing with calling and texting though. I REALLY do not want to go through the entire process of going back to stock to ship it back to amazon, so I am hoping it has something to do with sprints towers since I was alright the first few days.

Haha I completely understand the position you are in. I was in that position not too long ago. You do almost exactly what you said. Flash stock rom (NOT stock rooted though) and stock recovery, then lock the bootloader through adb. And that will pretty much return you to stock, but your bootloader will say "re-locked" at the top instead of "locked." So it's obvious that you've unlocked at some point. If everything else is stock, I doubt anyone would question it and you would more than likely be fine, but I like to be extra safe. I know with my previous phone (EVO LTE) if you were s-off, you could run a tool that made it say "locked" instead of "re-locked" so I would imagine you could do the same for this phone, but as far as I'm aware, you can't yet. I guess we'll just have to wait for a dev to make a tool for that.

I REALLY do not want to go through the entire process of going back to stock to ship it back to amazon, so I am hoping it has something to do with sprints towers since I was alright the first few days.

Glad I'm not the only one... My data and cell service have been not connecting all day today after a couple days with no issues ... Definitely going to be returning this one

I am so dissapointed, but I dont know wether to blame HTC or Sprint. No matter where I am I get the same crap, I went a few miles away where I know the heart of sprint spark connection lies, but still get really bad connection. I'm just going to return it to amazon, then buy it from best buy so if this crap happens I don't waste days and days of getting it shipped back to amazon.

You don't need an RUU for your device to "look" stock. Restore that stock nandroid that's floating around, flash stock recovery, and take the OTA.
As long as you're S-OFF, you can change the flag to LOCKED and then go back S-ON.

How does one get the stock nandroid? I have also searched and cant find it. Then I just flash it like a normal rom? I need to ship this back to amazon, I dont think they will check the bootloader and stuff but for sure a rom with missing apps will surely trigger them.
Could you point me in direction of a link or location where I can find a stock M8 rom and recovery, trying to get back to Stock so I can return phone to Sprint for another M8 after having the problem with my Spark and signal that everyone else is having. Plan on using Captain_Throwback method for my Hboot, just need to have the Rom and stock recovery to get this show on the road. Thanks in advance and thanks for your patience dealing with noobs !

Sprint is trying to get their network working properly, but it's not an easy task. The upgrades have to be done to each tower and that takes time. Not only does Sprint have to have the work done, they have to get a permit for each tower first. Some places that is easy enough, but some other places the government is very strict with work permits and it takes forever to get one. It could quite possibly be an issue with your phone, but it could also be an issue with the network. If you get a replacement and still experience issues, it's the network. If the issue goes away, then it was the phone. Unfortunately, I'm most cases it's really hard to tell until you get the replacement. But in your case, I'm almost certain it's an issue with your phone.

I honestly don't know where to find one. I've seen it mentioned multiple times, but I've read like 30 threads for this phone in the last couple days. Tomorrow I will he unlocking and I can send you guys the stock nandroid for the system, but I don't know about recovery. I'll try to find it and let you know.

Guys, check out @BD619's rooting thread here. He has the stock recovery included in his guide. You can download it here.

Stock nandroid here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51624633
A simple "yes" or "no" and where you are located should suffice.
Spent a total of 5 hours with Sprint between the phone and corporate stores since the first day this came out and today I was finally told the truth that all Sprint HK M8 owners are facing data issues.
To be specific(D.C. is a spark area) Every 15 minutes or so, my data/voice will drop regardless of what I am doing and pick back up anywhere between 1x and lte/spark 3-4 minutes later like clock work.
The lady at the corporate store let me see how my phone was in the red(see last pic). I went back to stock unrooted. Downloaded the .15 update. Updated profiles, PRLs, ##72786# data resets constantly and this problem still exists. The best that any representative could do is credit me $30 for my troubles(bull ****). Tried to get a replacement handset and they told me no. No one has given me any sort of "this will be fixed soon". Its always "well.....profile/prl/data updates cant fix this so a technician will look at your local tower"
I'm trying to get a rough estimate as to how many people are having the same problems
Here are pics for reference. This all happened with in 2 hours and continues to happen

Don't be surprised if you see this on other forums. Kind of going every where to see how many are having issues.
It's your phone. You need a replacement. I had the same issues, went into a store. They replaced my phone. No more issues.

That was my problem. They said they wouldnt swap phones because its not the phone's fault.
Im having the same issues but only when connected to my airrave.
No,
I did encounter issues when I first got my phone......... but did a system update the first day and all issues seem to be fixed ..this update does note that it corrects this type of problem .. on my phone anyway

Might want to have them check the SIM Card Reader. When I brought mine in after having the phone for a week, they told me that the issue were a result of the reader being busted. They replaced my phone right away with no issues since I only had it for a week. From what I hear is that the longer you've had the phone, the less likely Sprint will replace it though.
I'm heading over to the store again today to have them actually look at it.
They finally acknowledged that it is a handset problem. After looking at the service trends again I was red in voice and device was grey(don't know what that means). Crossing fingers that this fixes the issue but also Hoping that this isn't the only solution as it sounds costly

Grey means not enough data collected yet to determine anything.
I'm having bad issues as well as everyone else I personally sold HK and Non HK M8 too something is not right.. I'm to scared to order myself a replacement and not be able to achieve S-Off on it.. But I could buy the 25 dollar app to get it. Anyway Ive asked about these issues no response worth talking about. Hope to solve this soon guys...
Just got an HKE no problems here. I actually get better signal and speeds than on my Note 3. No Spark just LTE

It's a damn shame. Flew through Milwaukee, Vegas, Reno, and am in lake Tahoe on vacation and it's the same **** everywhere.
Flash the roam only mod then the Verizon prl. I'm getting better signal now then when I was with Verizon. I also have an hk m8 btw.
Received my replacement at 11am(EST) this morning and have had zero drops or issues since then. Been at full service in Spark since then.
Will update this thread in a few days with my findings.
Sucks because I am afraid to root/s-off because everything is working but I miss my backups of apps(Ti Backup) that I have been working on for years and hate these damn ads and bloat ware.
Im in the same boat waiting on my replacement tommorow. Im looking at it this way. Make sure you have the latest firmware and there should be no difference. I guessing bad antennas in some and some are just lucky and got a good one. Maybe start a thread Rooted vs Non rooted with signal quality and maybe we can answer our own question?
I have been holding off a Sprint visit for weeks, but after getting voicemails without getting phone calls on numerous occasions, I will have to go to Sprint.
However, after completely unrooting my phone in preparation to go to Sprint, I might not root my replacement whenever I decide to go there.
HTC Backup is excellent, in my opinion, and it really helps we with my lack of Titanium Backup. I don't like the ads either, but I think that it might be time to throw in the towel on rooting my phone. I've gotten more than my share of rom flashes and whatnot.
I was given a replacement due to my original having a bad antenna. Ive had zero issues since getting my new phone
SENT FROM MY ROCKING HK M8
I just as got my second one In less then a week and it keeps showing data connection error or some like that
If you're having trouble with your HTC One M8 download the latest latest network performance test tool.
"dl3 . htc . com/us/sprint/network_performance_test_tool_v0.85.zip" <=== Official website I cant post link currently so remove spaces.
If you get a red screen with NG device you need a replacement. It's a known device problem so charges will be waived.
New radio seems to fix problems
I was having tons of data connection issues with my M8. I recently followed the posts on doing the recent firmware update (OTA for those of you not rooted) and it includes a radio update. The new radio seems to be working quite well and I haven't had any connection issues. Hopefully this works for you guys too.
Amsick you can get into big trouble for that lol

Well that's a problem that nearly everyone has.. could you please take a picture with the pattern and upload it?
A temporary fix for this is changing your ISO to different settings, but that doesn't always work (didn't work for me, for instance).
The best solution is getting HTC or Sprint to fix your camera/replace your phone as it's a hardware issue apparently, although it seems like it would be a software issue.

HTC told me my phone is now "out of warranty" (it may have turned 1 year this month, but I even doubt that)... So even tho they acknowledge it is a defective issue, I have to pay to fix it. Guess they lost another customer to Samsung or LG

She is currently working on other solutions. I told her I would be willing to pay a small charge if they can switch it for an M8 at this point.

Ah, good luck then. I've never talked to Sprint's customer service but I've read of reviews online and they're apparently terrible, lol.

Edit... Looks like HTC lost a long time customer.

None of the other phone manufacturers are going to fix your phone for free out of warranty. I know you're salty now, but know that switching does no good for your problem in particular.
Enjoy Samsuck. LG make decent phones but they lack in build quality.

HTC has made one lackluster device after another since the original EVO. The HTC One M7 wasn't exactly an amazing device (had a lot of short comings... specifically the camera) and the M8 is just a rehash of the M7... atleast with the S 5 you can install QI with a simple chip under the back cover.
Enjoy Knox

yeah, you'll have to call HTC and make a claim. you'll have to pay for shipping and handling, but in a week or so, you will be sent a new device with the new camera hardware installed. I did this less than a month ago, and yes, you must still be under warranty.
