Formatted SD Card and now bricked I think HELP!!!! - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help badly. I was trying to do a FULL system wipe from CWM including SDcard and then sideload my install from adb. But something went horribly wrong because as soon as I hit format sdcard the phone shut down and now has NO access to the SDCard so I can't install any roms or anything because as soon as the installer tried to access the SDcard the phone crashes and reboots. I don't know what to do. Am I screwed or is there some way of recovering the SDCard again in this phone?
Also this is a Rogers HTC One and afaik there is NO RUU for this phone yet. Need help urgently.

Dude that's not going to help me. Read what I wrote. The SDcard is screwed up and as soon as anything tries to read or write the sdcard the phone crashes....I have no problem sideloading a zip to the phone it's when it tried to install that the phone crashes EVERY TIME.
Also TWRP recovery does NOT work on this phone now because TWRP tries to access the sdcard when it loads. CWM will load up but cant install a rom because the SDcard is somehow bricked and I need to know if theres a way to fix it.

Ok and now I apologize because it turns out sideloading DID work after all BUT. I had to sideload a NON aroma installer ROM (cyanogenmod) to the phone. Cyanogenmod was able to finish the install somehow without crashing the phone mid-way through the install and once it was booted up the SDcard portion of the phone was no longer corrupted and crashing the phone. I am able to access it in CWM and TWRP again without crashing .
So if anyone else out there has this same problem where they clicked "format SDcard" in CWM or TWRP and all of a sudden your phone constantly crashes when it does ANYTHING to access the SD card. Try sideloading cyanogenmod onto the phone and THEN go back and wipe again to install the ROM you wanted (in my case ViperOne). I thought for SURE my phone was a goner. I couldn't do anything but then finally decided to try sideloading CM 10.1.3 just for shi*s and giggles and it WORKED my phone is saved

[Q] Interesting boot loop problem.

2 nights ago I thought I would have a go at installing ULTIMATE ROM 3.0. I have flashed many Roms on my Galaxy S before and not had a problem yet. I have ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.0 installed.
However, this time- something went wrong. I don't think the installation completed properly. When I tried to reboot the system (to go back into my previous ROM) I wasn't able to. The Samsung logo appeared before the phone booted back into Recovery mode.
I tried to re-flash my previous working update.zip but had problems. I wasn't able to properly re-flash as the Installation would abort for various reasons. After doing cache clearing and data/factory reset I still had no luck. I resorted to reformatting the sdcard. Still didn't solve the flashing problem.
Throughout the whole time I was able to adb into the phone, browse the file system and I could push files on to it and take files off. But Kies wouldn't recognise the phone and Odin isn't able to complete a transfer to the phone (not sure why).
Today, I am able to successfully flash update.zip files (at least, that's what it looks like) but the phone ALWAYS boots into ClockwordMod recovery.
I am fast running out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestion?
How can I tell if my ROMs are really 'there' but I can't access them because ClockworkMod is preventing them from booting?
hmmm... me too.. stuck in a loop, that keeps going back to the CWM recovery menu, and no matter what i do, keeps going back to it... cant even get to the download screen to flash (again).... here i was thinking no matter what happens when installing custom roms, i can always flash to my stable secure rom, but not this time... need some software that can perform surgical operations, any suggestions?

Thats too bad guys, and i m sorry to hear that news.I would like to havean answer but i dont...
The fact is that since most people in this forum use some custom roms, and all of us think the same, that we can always go back,so it would be great if you give some more details about what happened to you,and mybe why it went wrong, and it would be even better if one of the BIG guys would give some explanation about this...
I already thinking of not updating my rom anymore, dot want to end up in looping too,so lets see if someone will find something.Good luck guys..
By the way,i didnt get it right,CWM recovery cannot load your backup????
I just got an idea, but not sure if or how it would work or not.
Since you can push file with ADB,if soeone made a clean backup with his CWM (o e mail, contacts, setting saved) and send it to you,so that you log in with CWM recovery and flash that ???
Just an idea..maybe stupid dont know...
Its not very clear if youve tried this already but cant you just boot into recovery through adb? or does that not work either?

[Q] urgent helped needed please

I bricked my CDMA Hero. I rooted it with the super one click, and installed a early version of froyo, and had some issues with it. I wanted to get it off, so I used CWM recovery, and formatted everything. Now when I turn it on it goes to the HTC opening screen, and stays there for hours until the battery dies. It will charge, but my computer doesn't recognize it, and it will not boot. What can I do?
Bricked means it is a brick and that is it, your phone still turns on so the good news is that it is not bricked.
Need some more info before anyone can help:
1. You reformatted everything using clockwork recovery
2. Did you re-install a new ROM?
3. Did you restore a nandroid backup?
I would recommend booting into recovery and wiping everything (factory reset and dalvik-cache) in recovery, then reinstall froyo - once you are booted and running you can figure out what you want to put on it. At least your phone would work then.

I'm also pretty sure your phone isn't bricked, as long as you can still get into Recovery, it Most Likely can be Fixed!
I also Recommend trying to Wipe Everything, then Reinstalling a New Rom, Also as a Suggestion... If it were me I'd Probably Choose a Different ROM to install! My Very First ROM I Flashed was a Cyanogen one, and I had Trouble with it Booting Also!!
Try LiquidSense... its Only 2.1, but its Stable, It Boots Fast, and just plain out Fast as Hell!
You can always Switch to Whatever you want... Once you get your phone back to a Working Condition!
Good Luck!

I cannot get it into recovery now. It will turn on, but it stops at the initial HTC screen, and stays there until the battery dies. When I connect my phone with my computer, the computer recognizes it, but I can't seem to get the 2.1 exe from HTC.com download to the phone. My guess is I wiped the thing clean. Unfortuneately, I didn't back anything up.
I can't even get into recovery, it just sits on the HTC startup screen until the battery dies. It does recognize when I connect it to my computer, but running the 2.1 exe doesn't do anything.
Can you adb into the phone and flash a recovery?
I think that would be a helpful start.

Pull the battery, hold volume down and power and you should boot into bootloader. I believe it is *home* to get you back into recovery. Then reinstall a new rom and you should be good to go.

t-y, got it. Yeah, then adb a new recovery image may be the only thing. But he may not even be able to get in then.
Just a matter of waiting right now.
He did say his computer was recognizing his device, so he might be ok.
If he can flash a new recovery, or even just adb.. then he can start rebuilding it.
stonemad:
You'll want to grab a recovery, and try to connect to your phone via ADB when it's on.
Then do adb shell
then : flash_image recover [name of recovery].img
let us know
Ok, I can get to the CWM recovery, there is no backup files, no recovery files, and no files on my sd card. I cannot seem to get an opperating system on. I mounted my phone to my computer and downloaded .zip files, but it still says no files available.
How do I flash a recovery, I can't find any files anywhere.
i have .zip files on my sd card to flash, but when I try to apply them it says no files found.
Ok, I have been working on this all day. Thank you to every body who answered. This is the situation as best as I see it. I can use the power and the down volume buttons to go to recovery mode. I have ClockworkMod 2.5 and can mount my computer to my sd card. It appears that I don't have an opperating system at all, or anything else on the phone. I have downloaded several .zip files and tried to install them, I can mount them, but when I try to apply them it states that there are no update.zip files on the sd card. I have deduced that I need an opperating system for an update to work, but I could be wrong. I am having a hard time finding the right files to use to get my phone to go. It seems salvageable, but I'm not sure how. People have sugested a couple of Mods to instal, but I don't know how to do that with what I have. CWM is asking for a update.zip, or a recovery.zip, but I don't know wich one at which time, or even how to get it to flash. That is what I think I know, but that is subject to change depening on what you all know.(showing just how foolish I really am) Thanks again people for you time and advice, I really do appreciate it.
Don't select "install update.zip", select "install zip from SD card" or whatever the option is called.
I've tried that too, it seems like all the software is gone. HTC, Sprint, Google, and Android. Does anybody have a download they think will work. I'm at the point to try anything.

What software are you talking about? Sprint, Google, and Android what, specifically? A download for what?
Mount usb storage in recovery, put rom of your choice on there, and flash?
what about kernals, how do I know that I have everything I need?
ROMs generally have kernels in the zip builds already. From the sounds of it, you're kind of lost at what you're doing.
Do you have a SD card reader? if so, plug in the SD card to your computer and pull over a ROM zip, like Cyanogenmod or whatever is to your liking.
Then in recovery, go to "install zip from sdcard"
go to "Choose zip from sdcard"
then search for the ROM zip you put on the sd card.
State exactly STEP BY STEP, what you are doing. Your phone is perfectly fine, you just dont have a ROM on your phone, which is why you cant boot. You're not missing kernels, or anything, you simply dont have the baseline of a ROM on your phone yet.

I don't know where or how to find a rom, I have heard good things about cyanogen, but can't seem to find where to download it. Is ClockworkMod a rom, and if so how do I use it. You're right, I got way in over my head, and now I just want my phone back the way I bought it. What is your favorite rom, and can you give me a link. Thanks again everyone.

[Q] HTC one - ARHD install crash - phone bricked

Hi Guys,
So i've been away from flashing ROMs for awhile but have been playing with my HTC one and have had no issues until today.
I downloaded the new ARHD, put it on my SD card and went to install it. Aroma played nice for once but as soon as it started installing and doing the full wipe the phone rebooted. So i tried again with the same result. In the end i passed by the full wipe option and managed to get to the final step of rebooting and then it would freeze which it did 3 times.
Now i can see the ROM but i can't mount the SD card in CWM to put anything else on there so my phone is useless. I am not really experienced with ADB having only used it briefly with my sensation a few years back.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
connect phone to comp, open cmd in folder that you have rom on computer (cd/location/here/rom.zip) then do (as long as you set up adb correctly) adb push rom.zip while selecting flash rom from sideload. cwm will do the rest.
I think all that happened was Aroma crashing every time. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.
Hi,
I cannot get the phone recognized in fastboot, if i let the phone start to boot i can see my device.
Sorry if this isn't clear

If it got all the way to the "Reboot Phone" stage--meaning that the phone wiped and installed the new OS--you should be fine to boot the phone up normally. I'm sure you have, but have you tried just powering it up and seeing if it'll load into Android? Reminder: First boot after a new ROM always takes a few minutes.
Hey guys,
So i ended up continuing to flash it trying various options and eventually it came up ok... The scary thing was the random reboots during install whilst aroma was trying to wipe everything...
But all sorted, thanks everyone!

[HELP] Please help me with boot loop (CM)

So I was running a cm 10.2 nightly (late december) and today decided to try the new CM11 ones.
I download it and try to install it through the standard cm updater, when it reboots to CWM I get the famous "status 7" error.
I didn't think much of it and selected reboot now, then was presented with the "root permisions possibly lost want to fix now" message, I hit go back.
Ever since then, my device has been on a boot loop. After I re entered CWM I selected the option to fix the root permissions and after some attempts to start the phone again I did a factory reset&wipe cache which didn't help at all.
I have a backup on my computer of stock 4.1 rom but I don't know if/how I can use adb push while on CWM or bootloop to transfer it to the phone. I may be able to use a card reader to put it on the micro SD card and will try it tomorrow because I have to sleep now.
My CWM version is 6.0.3 and not 6.0.4, not sure if that caused the problem but I read that to update to CM11 you need the 6.0.4 version.
Any help to unbrick my phone would be greatly appreciated.
You've answered your own question as to the cause. People on here don't normally say things like "CWM v6.0.4.4 or newer required" just for fun.
As for getting the phone back, search and read.
Yeah I read that after I had bricked my phone, trying to load my backup to external sd right now.

Internal SD card behaving strangely - Please Help

In short: Canceled Factory Reset, Now my SD card is not being detected properly and I am unable to format/mount it in recovery
Hey Everyone,
I've recently created quite a frustrating problem on my HTC Vivid that I'm unable to figure out. While attempting to go into CWM Recovery to check what version I have I accidentally selected Factory Reset from the bootloader. I quickly pulled the battery, as my back cover was off, within a second or two of this selection, and to my knowledge the phone was still on the bootloader screen and hadn't begun the process. After rebooting into my ROM and I attempted to install TWRP Recovery via Goo Manager in preparation for flashing a new ROM. After the download timer expired my Goo Manager crashed. Any attempt to install via Goo Manager since then is giving me this error, or it just hangs at the download web page. I suspect that this is because of the botched Factory Reset I mentioned earlier, and I'm worried I've somehow messed up the internal SD. My internal sd card is not detected by the camera app nor correctly seen in my file manager, in settings it is reported at the correct size, but apparently all my media has been deleted. I'm unable to format/mount ext sd or emmc in Recovery. My questions are: Has my sd card been corrupted, and If so, why did all my apps and user data remain? Secondly, how can I remedy this situation? I should mention that my phones data port is basically unusable, so I am unable to connect my device to a PC and use adb/fastboot.
My recovery is CWM 5.5.0.4 and my ROM is CM-10.2 | AOSP 4.3.1 Jellybean [KANG] [Oct-31] My phone is unlocked and S-OFF
Update: I tried to Factory Reset, thinking maybe what got me into this mess would get me out, but that option just takes me into recovery. This leaves me even more puzzled. I followed that up with a factory reset/davlik cache wipe from recovery but that hasn't done anything either. My conclusion thus far is that I need to somehow reformat my internal storage, is that possible without connecting my phone to a pc?
Thank you for any responses, and taking the time to read this.
I inadvertently hit the factory reset once from the boot loader and it did the reset in just a few seconds. It hosed my internal memory and unfortunately had to run the ruu to fix it. I know that is not what you want to hear if you can't connect it to a computer.

Seriously?
I have answered this question literally 100 times...
Please use the search feature...
Or at least scroll down and read thread titles...
And if your port is borked... Replace it

I did a forum search, I was unable to find a satisfactory answer so I started my own thread. (All were referring to using some method of connecting the phone to a PC)
If anyone is wondering, I solved my problem by simply doing a reset/data wipe via recovery and reflashing my ROM. During setup it prompted me to format my internal storage and now my phone is behaving as normal.
Mods feel free to lock and delete this thread.
