So basically i rooted my samsung s4 on bell with clockworkmod "CF-Autoroot" odin and tried out a few roms. didnt like the roms, switched to my restorre and im back. but now i want to unroot and get rid of clockwork mod. How do i do that? Also, My bigissu is that my phone sais i have 16 gb space, and only 9 mb available. there are no none-stock apps on it and i have nothing else installed. This is after a fresh factory reset. so
1: how do i remove clockworkmod
2: how do i get all of my storage space back
3: how do i remove all remnants of my rooting adventures
4: how can i go back to getting carrier (bell) updates?
5: At least show me how to get as close to how it was when i bought it.

I'm completely stock right now with the new update H7 and new to this flashing and rooting stuff. I've been reading everything and seems yall got all this down to just clicking one button and the program does the rest.
So before i try this everyone says backup backup backup soo that leads to...
1. Is there anyway to back up my phone like it is now since i haven't rooted. Just in case something goes wrong
Or
2. is the only option i have is to do the one click root thing and back up the rom then try to flash the 2.2 ?
and
3. If something goes wrong and 2.2 doesn't flash right..could i just go into recovery mode and click reinstall packages and be back to the h7 (if i don't root to back up)? or does that recovery option get deleted/overwritten when i try to flash 2.2 with odin one click?
thanks for any help
You don't really have to back up your phone. It is up to you if you have important info, games etc that you want to keep. Lots of times games were either purchased from the market so they will be attached to your profile. Use appbrain to sync your market as well. Otherwise there really is no way to do a backup unless you are rooted.
so basically i'll have to root to back up the phone at its current state? ...i'm not really worried about having to reinstall everything i've only bought beautiful widget so far but i think froyo flash deletes everything anyways right? but i just want to be able to go back to stock in case something goes wrong and the flash doesn't work or say the phone screws up and i need the warranty.
If the flash goes wrong can i go back to recover mode and hit the reinstall and will it reinstall the h7 i have now back to the phone or will that recovery option be deleted when you try to flash the 2.2?
In rom manager you have the option to back up your phone in its current state. If you get boot loops or continuous force closes you would need to use odin to flash back and do root again to load rom manager. Then you would be able to load your backup.

ok thanks man, ...one more thing does the one click root/unroot work just fine with the 2.1-update1 right? the h7 firmware wont make a difference when trying to root?
That should have no issues with 2.1.
My experience with JH7 to 2.2 became a huge issue when I used Master Clear....
I could not for the life of me get the phone into Recovery or Download mode using the three button press or any other combo of USB battery pulls and button presses.....ended up biting the bullet and using the SDK method which turned out to work flawlessly.......after hours of searching, googling, reading and experimenting.....
I now have two Captivates in Stock froyo mode.
Hey guys. I had rooted my Nexus One without unlocking the bootloader using the 1-click root application. I have managed to successfully use Cyanogen roms in the past. I am currently running eViL's NXSense v1.26.
I want to now revert back to the stock Froyo Rom, install all the latest updates which have been done after Froyo 2.2 & be ready eventually for Gingerbread . My question is how I can safely revert back to the stock Froyo rom & still be rooted?
I have Rom Manager installed and I am currently using clockwork recovery. I believe that there is an option in Rom manager to flash the stock Froyo rom. Is this the best option to select? Also I have an ext 3 partition of 512 MB. Do I have to format my card to delete the partition ?
I would really appreciate if someone can post a step by step procedure regarding what needs to be done

Thanks for the link mate. I would still like to know since my Nexus is rooted, if I revert back to the stock rom will I lose the root? Also if I revert back to stock Froyo 2.2, will I get the OTA updates which have been released after that? Finally what about the ext 3 partition? Do I keep it or do I have to delete the partition and how I delete it if it is not required?
Hey guys. Can anyone please look into my questions? I want to switch back to the stock rom while still maintaining my root.
you will lose root on a completely stock (untouched) ROM, no matter the version. But you can always root back through various methods if needed. Rooting does not prevent you from getting OTA updates.
If you go to Froyo 2.2, you MIGHT have to manually update to 2.2.1 (FRG83) depending on if Google made the update available again (it was taken off for some reason...) but you WILL get future updates (such as the new FRG83D)
As for the ext partition, I do not think it's useful, unless you are planning to use apps2ext which requires root I believe. Don't take my word for granted, I don't know much about this.
Thank you replying mate. As mentioned earlier, rom manager does have an option of going back to the stock Froyo rom. I have a2sd enabled. So how do I go back to the stock Froyo rom. Do I have to format my sdcard to delete the ext 3 partition?
Hey guys. I managed to download & install Nexus One FRF91 stock rooted image using rom manager. I have also managed to restore my applications using Titanium backup. I can see all my root applications are working fine & I can also see the superuser app.
Now when I go to Settings--> About phone--> System updates, it gives me a message that my system is currently up to date. Is this because I am rooted? As mentioned earlier I rooted using the 1-click root & so my bootloader is still locked. How do I move on from FRF91 to the remaining Froyo updates while still maintaining my root?
Also when I connect my phone to my PC & use Minitool Partition Wizard, it shows me my ext 3 partition & the swap space. Since I am not using a2sd, how do I regain this space while still maintaining other files? Can I just delete these 2 things using Minitool Partition Wizard?
I would really appreciate some help here folks
Ok Mods I have finally updated to FRG83D without unlocking my bootloader Also I do not have to delete my a2sd partition now. So please delete this thread. Thank you to everyone who attempted to answer my queries.
I've read all "bricked" threads up and down (honest!) but none of it "fits" and I have circumstances that make me afraid of completely "losing" the phone. My situation:
- got the Captivate with stock 2.1 and did the one-click-root and unlock. From that stage I have a ROM backup generated via ClockworkMod recovery, and a backup of nvram.bin etc.
- after that I used Samsung Kies mini to upgrade to stock 2.2, then hard-removed ATT crapware before I learned that this could be a problem. Also made other changes to remove bootup animation and sounds, etc. and installed lagfix (2.2 if I am not mistaken)
- no backup from that stage because ClockworkMod wouldn't run anymore (checksum error)
Now after installing live dmesg I am stuck at boot and can either get into download mode or a vibration loop, i.e. it vibrates every few seconds. I can get into adb shell but only non-root because it's stuck at an early stage. dmesg doesn't tell (me) what the problem is.
My main question now: What can I now program in which order - safely - to get back into a usable state? I am afraid that whatever step I take will lead me into a non-recoverable situation.
ANY help or tips are greatly appreciated!!!
Get in to download mode and 1 click back to stock eclair. A good 1 click is this onehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
That should get you back to a stock 2.1 from factory.
On a personal note don't bother with stock android roms. There's plenty of Froyo roms or GB roms to use most of them just better than anything a "stock" rom can do.
Good advice, I would also add that since you're able to use adb shell, to try method 1, 'adb reboot download' or 'adb reboot recovery', then ODIN-1-click back to stock. Also when trying to get rid of AT&T stuff, try TiBU and just 'freeze' those apps. It hides them from your phone but if you ever want them back, just a click away.
Thanks that worked, but...
...only after it got stuck the first time with only the (Computer)--!--(Phone) symbol and NO apparent way to get back into the download mode. But thankfully there is an extremely odd method to recover (linked from that thread). I was getting extremely nervous for a while here.
Thanks also for the tip to try another ROM. I am in the process of getting DarkyROM and Gingerbread installed - looking good!
Sorry guys, I've been piecing together different posts/threads to try & find my answer without much success, but I haven't had too much luck
We bought somebody at our office a rooted Droid 4, using Safestrap 3.11 recovery, which appears to be running CM10.1 in it's slot 1. For some reason, unclear to me exactly, she wants to remove the root, if possible & just run the phone the way it comes. My initial thought was to just run a rooted stock RUU on the phone & give it back, but I've had difficulties finding one for this phone so I decided I might as well just do as she'd initially asked.
From reading other posts, it appears as if I'm supposed to disable Safestrap from the recovery, allow the phone to boot into the stock rom, then remove the safestrap app. However, I'm at a loss for finding the option that would allow me to disable safestrack out of the recovery, as everything I've seen/read doesn't seem to be an option anywhere that I can find.
There's an option for Stock ROM, but after attempting to switch it to that rom, the phone just reboots over & over. After I've selected the stock, it appears as it it's wanting me to Install the rom from somewhere, & the previous owner does have a stock maserati ROM listed in his downloads, but I'd like to confirm that selecting this option is what I'm supposed to do before I run with it, as previously mentioned, it's not my phone to get to enjoy fixing if I mess something up.
I'm not a complete NOOB, as I'd rooted all of the HTC EVO branded phones I'd owned, but I'm typically a little braver at trying first & fixing later, when it's my phones than when it's somebody elses.
Thanks for any & all advice.
Hi all,
So, a little earlier today, i noticed the 'update available' appear on my phone here in the UK. Although I rooted my phone when it had Gingerbread, the update to ICS was fine, so I decided to go ahead and accept the software update to Jelly Bean.
Big mistake!
Now when I turn on my phone it is really sluggish, but after between 10 to 40 seconds it restarts itself.
It does this constantly so it is now impossible to use my Note.
I really need to get it back into a working state, ideally without losing my photos.
What would be the best solution?
If I can back up my photos to my PC then it won't matter if they get wiped from the phone. I'll try that as soon as it is charged up.
Another thing that may cause an issue is I can't remember which program I used to root the phone. I remember it was just a straight forward root, with no custom ROM installed, no clockwork mod thingy and no binary counter update.
Should I just try to unroot the phone to see if that fixes it?
Since I can't remember what software I used to root it, does that mean I can't unroot it?
Anyway, hope someone can help.
Cheers
Best would be to download stock rom from Samfirmware.com install Philz kernel. Do a wipe data, format system, cache, preload. Boot into download mode and flash the new rom. A fresh start might solve the issue. Make a backup of important data.
