Does it work? Is it supposed to have a notification while active? As far as I can tell it doesn't even activate at low battery or prolong the battery longer.
It's good to begin with though.

You must have come from HTC's camp. No notification is shown while on. Only shows in battery section of settings.
I guess it only has an effect on syncing and display brightness when the phone reaches 15% or lower.

wait, what? what's the leaf icon then? yeah, the one that appears saying something about "battery saver", that when tapped, takes me to battery settings, and disappears if I deactivate "Battery Saver"?

See I don't have this lol. I've seen it before on reviews, is it supposed to do that?
Also I have no notification and no dimmer screen as far as I can tell.
Yes, power saver is on and has been cycled on/off a few times.

Couldn't say... I found an outlet about 20 mins after I saw 1%. Now, if that's 1%, multiplied by 100 it's 2000 of batt... which would equal to about 33 hours? Still more than the 28 hours I got out of that charge, but I just don't know if it would have gone further had I not plugged it in.

What's the recharge schedule for the battery? Should I let it drop all the way down in a while or just charge it up when it's down to around 20%? I tried to google it, but my google-fu lately has been off.
Ok, so I dont have this leaf thing.....What does it say if you pull down the notification area?
How do those of us who don't have it fix it?
Is there an app we can clear cache on or something?
Edit: This could be a carrier software change. I'm on Verizon, what is everyone else using?

Don't quite remember... I think it was some "battery saving mode on" thing, that accesses your battery settings when tapped. And if I recall correctly, also a triangle with an exclamation mark, letting me know mobile data was disabled.

Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life, other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery once in a while. Read more about Battery Calibration.

I have the verizon moto x and yes i believe the leaf is carrier dependent. From what I have read online battery saver mode causes the phone to poll for updates less frequently to conserve batter life. Can anyone else confirm this?

One thing I will note is that the Moto X does have a power saver mode, but it appears to just disable background sync and put the data connection to sleep aggressively. It doesn't change the governor so that the max CPU frequency is lower (say the 1.1 GHz state) like a lot of other OEMs power savers do, which seems like a missed opportunity.

I noticed the longer battery life also. When a lot of stuff is running sometimes I will use the ES Taskmanager Kill app and when I did that there is more free memory than before and even when a lot of apps are being used there is more free memory than before also.

That's what I was thinking. But since I bought the device, it hasn't done this. This is either a bug or battery life is extremely increased!
On 4.1.2 my battery drops 1% in 16 minutes of the same usage. This is definitely way beyond!
Still monitoring it.
Might as well play a few games to see what happens.
There is definetely a bug with battery readings.. It is likely drop more than normal , once it drops to %99.
Ok. I did a bit of NFS and it brought my battery down to 95%. Now to see if it'll drop normally.

I think your battery stats are jammed, I'm not seeing anything like that at best 30 - 40 minutes of extra battery, which is still nice. If your right your device is drawing power from the air around it

I've had relatively poor battery life as well... I went 12 hours with a recharge from 10 to 50% again before it completely drained...
I'm not impressed with the battery on this phone but everything else has been great.
... I'm starting to think I'll have to make my own Qi Charger for pant pockets... embed it in your pocket so whenever the phone is there it's charging. I'm seriously considering trying this to see if it's possible... if so, i'm doing it for sure. Or a carrying case with an extra battery and a Qi Charger... or a Qi charger dock for the car... you get the idea. Wireless charging shouldn't be the fix for poor battery life, but it definitely could help it.

Task managers mess around with Android's memory management and it is fairly well known that they usually end up draining more battery than they save. Try getting rid of it.
Also other people are reporting that the battery life gets better after a few days of using. Is yours really new? Im not sure how true that is btw.
Probably a combination of that task killer and a wake lock.

Install Franco's kernel. Battery life has been outstanding (1 Gmail account sync, 1 Exchange account sync, maybe 30 minutes of calls and 100+ texts a day; I have location services & Google Now enabled as well). I average 3+ hours screen on time and I normally end the day around 30% ...
I would stay away from task managers ... it's not that I know what's going on more than you or anyone else, but well established and respected kernel developers recommend against it. If these guys don't know then I honestly don't know who else does ...

Yep...20-30 minutes won't tell the tale. I'd also recommend Brightness Toggle widget...allows a few extra steps (16 total, IIRC) of brightness control over stock, to fine tune screen brightness, often another culprit.

Must be something like 10-20 minutes, lol.
Regarding "always scanning", I dont think it's something that uses alot of battery. Probably even more battery friendly than other "location" services. Just because it labels WiFi as always on, doesnt mean it uses as much battery as actually being connected to a network. Personally, I don't care for all this location nonsense so it's obviously off. Regarding the location-based wifi, it's only smart if you don't know how to toggle WiFi when leaving your house, etc.

The phone maxes around 5-6, MAYBE 7 (I've never come near that though), hours of screen on time in total.
The 13% means that 13% of the battery used going from 100% to 72% was from the screen.
Tap "screen" in the list of battery usage and it will tell you how long it has been on.
This one's mine... ca. 70% brightness:

Hi,
I want to understand battery performance of Moto G5s plus. I am seeing that battery life of my phone is very poor. It goes down to 70% from 100% in an hour with just usage of YouTube.
When i received my cell phone i haven't full charge it's battery before starting it. I have full charged my battery when it was 40% remaining. While the official manual says that, we need to full charge it before starting our cell phone.
Does Moto G5s plus need full charge of battery before start (when we are starting our phone just after unboxing)?
Anyone have similar issue?
How's battery life holding for others?
Thanks,
Abhishek

My phone's battery drained 12% for three and a half hour screen use (browsing, messenger etc. and Mortal Kombat - only 20 mins, though). The screen is almost at the least brightness.
I too faced q similar issue as yours. Turned out it was because of some app Battery HD or DNS something app (used to block ads) or maybe some other third-party app. I uninstalled all those and the performance improved significantly.
Give it a try.

Did you full charge your phone before you switch it ON for the first time?
I would check for a rogue app draining the battery. I've had the phone for a week now and the shortest SOT I've had was 3hrs. That was with streaming music through Bluetooth while driving for 13hrs. My average ok normal day has been 5hrs with 35 percent left on battery.
No issues with battery life here. I didn't fully charge my device when I first unboxed it. Matter of fact, I didn't charge it until that night.
I've had this device since Saturday, so it's hard to say exactly how well battery life is exactly, but based on what I've seen so far...it's pretty damn good. I took it off the charger 5 hours ago and it currently says I have 2 days left. I haven't used it much today as I'm at work, but I have a feeling something isn't right with your setup [emoji848]
Being nobody else has posted any screenshots, figured I'd show mine [emoji6]

No. Instead, I used it until the battery discharged to 0. Then I charged it to 100 and used it till the battery drained to 0. Did the same like thrice. I really doubt such a thing had any effect on battery, though.

Did you try holding it in your left hand, hopping on your right foot, waving it around and around your head, shouting "go battery go go charge"? I reckon it's got as much chance of making a difference as anything else. It's a lithium ion battery - just charge it when you think that you're going to need it to last longer than it would if you didn't charge it, and make sure you fully charge it if you intend leaving it unused for months. Anything else is cargo cult nonsense.

Haha! I only replied to what the OP asked. BTW my intention to drain the battery to 0 before charging was to measure the time it takes to get fully charged from 0.

I had to lol at that. Moved to the Moto from a seriously battery impaired Nexus 6P and that was about the only thing I didn't try.
"Go battery go go charge" is now our household meme for "I have to charge my phone". Thank you.

No. Instead, I used it until the battery discharged to 0. Then I charged it to 100 and used it till the battery drained to 0. Did the same like thrice. I really doubt such a thing had any effect on battery, though.

Yes, you are right. Old batteries needed to full charge before switching it ON for the first. What i find surprising is that Moto is saying the same for new generation batteries and printing it in Manual.
I finally got a fresh new g5s plus and so far I can't complain about the battery life. On my second charge I got 2 days of battery with 8 and a half hour of screen on, but only a few calls, and almost always wifi. The next days I'm using the phone lot heavier with lot of GPS and calls, so we'll see then how it's going but so far I'm very satisfied.
By the way I haven't fully charged the phone out of the box but I've waited untill it was almost fischarged
I m getting around 4-4.5 hours screen on time , Aod off , Edge off , Just wifi is on at home and its off when i go out and mobile data is on . Usage - browsing , netflix , web . Power saving mode is disabled , Brightness is around medium and resolution is FHD+ , Its been 2 weeks + since i got it.
What should i do , I see people getting way more along with way more usage than mine .
same, its hard for me to get over 5 hours.

Are you guys using package disablers? I feel the make battery life worse. Did you guys turn off all diagnostic and reporting settings (Samsung & Google's) I average 6-7.5 sot . Wifi data bt gps on at all times, screen at 20% adaptive brightness. I use FB via browser no app

Turned it off just now .
First off are you using exynos version or snap?
Exynos version here. When signal is good and I'm. Not dealing with carrier aggregation issues I can get almost 8 hrs of sot

What service provider do you have ?
Are you using a dark theme? Darker colors are easier on the battery to produce on an AMOLED screen.
What are you doing during screen-on time? If you are doing resource intensive activities like using Navigation, that will absolutely kill battery. Someone having 5+ hours of screen-on time, may be doing something passive with their screens on. It's really difficult to go apples to apples in these cases.
User sewe used 1659 mAh on screen during his 7h+ run. How much is your stating is due to screen in mAh?
same here, exynos, running in performance mode, wifi & mobile data on, 6.45 on battery and 4.40 screen on time, 56% left on battery, I do turn screen brightness down a bit as I don't need it full whack when in doors
The only other factor is gonna be wakelocks , or Signal strength.

So, it sounds like you have the Exynos version. I have been hearing some stuff about shorter battery times on different variants. I think they might be Exynos related.
Are most of you using WQHD? I had an S8 Plus and then got the Note 8 and I can say from using both phones the Note 8 doesn't have as good battery life. I run my screen on WQHD and I get through most of the day. Battery life is average in my view, but battery life isn't a big issue since the Note 8 has fast wireless charging and fast wired charging and I have a portable battery so I always have something to charge the phone. I mean worse battery life was expected compared to the S8 Plus, bigger display and all with a smaller battery...
