Unable to unlock via Windows 8.1 Preview - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I created this thread to hopefully prevent someone else from wasting countless hours doing the same as me in troubleshooting driver issues.....
If you are running Windows 8.1 preview and trying to get Windows to properly recognise your phone in fastboot and failing at every turn.... Just use another PC without Windows 8.1 Preview and it will work fine....
I wasted hours uninstalling and reinstalling various drivers etc only to fine Windows was the problem the whole time.
Took me 20mins to unlock the phone on my other PC with just Windows 8.

this is a known issue, you should use search rather than posting a new thread

Results of searching the forum for "windows 8.1"
"No results found"
I searched everywhere for a solution till I found some random topic elsewhere simply discussing this.
This should be mentioned at the OP of all the HOW TO ROOT guides etc. in my opinion.

Trouble Staying Logged Into xda

I keep having to log into xda. For some reason it won't keep me logged in. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3. I have it set to accept cookies. Anyone else having this problem and is there a fix? I have searched this forum and Googled to no avail.
Hmm, I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3 too and didn't have to log in since the first time I switched over from IE.
Any chance you have some anti spyware app running that keeps cleaning up your cookies?
Any chance this is OS related?
I am running XP pro SP2, but I haven't update it in at least 6 month.

[Q] Cannot get Helium to work?

I want to use Helium to back up my apps on my One because it's unrooted and I plan to root it today after school. I install Helium on my One, then I install it on my PC. I open it on the PC and then on my One but nothing happens, it doesn't seem to wanna find it. Dev options are on and so is advanced debugging. ADB works and finds my One so why doesn't it want to work?
I had this problem a couple weeks back. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to work on either of my Windows 7 64 bit machines. Was about to give up hope but gave it a try on my old desktop running Win 7 32 bit, and boom, started straight away. So I'd suggest trying another computer if you can and see if that works

[Q]Help w/ mounting phone with 4.3?

ON 4.1/4.2 I had no issues with mounting phone to transfer files. Even on GPE roms with 4.3 no issues. But all 4.3 sense roms I cannot get it to mount and allow me to transfer files. What it does right now when I plug it in goes through found new hardware attempting to install, no go, or select advanced and it says not installed because it couldn't find necessary software. Then it comes up with HTC One Camera connected and shows stupid options that don't help me at all like; Dropbox and microsoft options and stuff.
Things I've already attempted
Removed drivers
attempted to re-install them
USB debugging on, rebooted between selecting/deselecting options phone & computer.
Removed HTC Sync, attempted to reinstall get an error upon trying 1152 Error extracting to temp location, I cannot change its desired location though, stupid lol.
Cannot delete C:\HTC folder cause of passthrusvr.exe I don't need or want that (my understanding it is for passing internet connections and such).
I'm on XP, I know its a dinosaur, it gets what I need done, until now lol.
Oh ya, it connects fine to other computers like my works and a friends. Just not mine which has all my music on it... :-\
I just wanna move some music over and stuff, hate going back and forth on backups to do so.
I won't be available til tomorrow to trouble shoot or late tonight depending on how things go later.

Umm sounds like the problem isn't with your phone but with your computer and windows is such a finicky os that not one solution works for all kind of thing. Just a thought are your firewalls configured properly? What does the computer show when plugging it in device manager? Sometimes my phone and laptop don't play along and its either because I have fast charge enabled in kernel or I just turn debugging off always works then and the phone is recognized as mass storage device. Good luck

I don't use anti virus or have any firewalls active as far as I know, it looks for cdc serial but then nothing happens so it mounts as an HTC One camera device. Stock kernel as well, appreciate the trying tho.

And its def a computer thing which I'm not super knowledgeable on unfortunately. I've got it to connect on other PCs and laptops without a hiccup, also have tried differs cables also, before that's suggested too. I'm almost positive it's just the leftovers from drivers that I can't seem to fully get rid of.

Smashed phone, please help.

I dropped my note5 and now I can't open it... I've tried everything I know how to do with adb and such and I can't get my photos... Any help is greatly appreciated. My grandma recently passed and I have our last photos on here...
So far I've tried using kies3, adb devices with the android studio install, which it never finds... I was trying to push my passcode manually that way but couldn't ever get it to come up.....
Try downloading smartswitch on your computer then connect your phone to your computer and it should work.
