Black dots camera - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I got a problem. When I take a picture there are black dots on my screen, on every photo it's on the same place.
But when i shoot a video, there are no black dots..
I really don't know how this is possible. I tried other camera apps, and also have this problem..

I had the same problem strange black spots. Bring your phone back to your carrier or the shop.
Maybe they can fix it otherwise a new phone.
I got a new phone.

I have a question.
Does your power button seemed to sit crooked in to the bulb where the powerbutton is placed in? This was something that annoyed me in my previous SP.

Try cleaning tour camera lens with microfiber cloth, that blue protection sticker left some adhesive on my lens. Maybe its just dust?

I never got it before with my SP.. One day I take a picture and I had these black dots.
I already cleaned the camera lens, no results..
First I thought it's a firmware issue but today I updated my SP to .254 firmware and I still got this problem..
And a second reason it can't be dust. There are only black dots in picture mode, not in video mode..
This weekend I think to go to the store where I bought my SP and tell them. Maybe they can restore it or maybe I get a new one.
Hope the second haha!

First time I see this!
Left side is a bit higher than the right side of the button (when I hold my phone in landscape mode with the screen to me).

I had faced this issue when i using galaxy y. This is hard issue, u should send it back to shop.

Ok, with my previous SP it was also that left side was a bit higher than the right and of course the camera spot problem:crying:
Dont know if it is a batch problem, just a theorie.
How long do you have the phone?
I got my previous SP begin june. (I live in Holland).
The new phone I got doesnt have the spots and the powerbutton is alligned nicely with the frame.
See upper right corner of the picture, if I changed the size of the photo the spots would go away.

I got it from the release here in Belgium.

Strange, maybe its a batch problem but then there should be more people facing the same problems.
Haven you already made a decision about what you do with your phone?

do you still have warrenty?

My power button is like yours, the left side is higher than the right side.
I dont have any camera problem.
Is there any xsp that have a straight power button?
Pic please.

The store where I bought my phone, they can not or want to give me a new one. The only thing they could do, is sending it for reparing. It will take 3-4 weeks they said. I don't want to miss my phone so long, that's the reason I will keep it with the black dots..

I too have the same problem :/

I brought my phone back to my contracter with the intention that they would fix it. After 2 weeks or something like that, I got called that I would get a new phone :victory:. Hopefully this info can help you. I dont know how things would work out for you
Also I'm stuck with three backcovers right now, thought I lost my backcover of my old SP (these you can keep when bringing phone for repair at my contracter) orderd new one, got new phone and found old backcover :silly:.
Also my xperia play is repaired after almost two years (had a contract and couldnt get a new phone yet) got it fixed for free and got the SP after that. In holland it is normal you have a two year warranty.

I don't know if SE can't fix it in guarantee.
My pictures quality is affect, juste see the pictures :
2 exemple before :
2 exemple after :
My pictures are fuzzy and too "grey".
I have send a e-mail toi SE, no answer.
I call in this week...
If you have the same probleme, and if the quality is affect... Thanks
So I'm sure now that's impossible to take again this type of pictures... :
Pardon me but I don't see any problem with the "after" pictures.
Half of my coating was off just after 4 days (or less, I noticed it only on the forth day), so I did not get a chance to take "before" shots.
Still, do you remember doing anything to your phone to cause it to be like it. Was it always like this?
i have your same problem, also i take much care on it!
sry i m italian..
What do you use to clean your phone? Or do you not clean it at all?
My lens is also so...But i must say i dont know how it get so...Maybe it come so in purchase...Very bad lens i must say...

Got exactly the same problem. It has annoyed me for a long time and makes my camera useless. I have been thinking of sending the phone in, but I dont like to be without my phone for several weeks, besides, how many days will it tike before the problem reappears? unless they are aware of the problem, and have a fix for it. And as everybody else, I take very good care of the phone

i noticed the same thing yesterday on my xperia,
however i believed its sort of moisture left behind the lens, after my little son pee on my x1,i rubbed it instantly, just after that i realised camera was not upto the mark,i still strongly believe its the reason,
else u notice one thing,
only the circle has those scratch like look, and not that whole hexagon shape, only the cirle
so if it scrathed why doesnt the rest..!
hopefully its just moisture and goes away with time,..
...i have the same problem too...
picture in daylight have a kind of "dreamy filter"!!!
By nigth have no big problem!
...sorry double post
lol dreamy fliter
it is actually moisture,i'm 99% sure atm,
it must have gone like that, when we cleaned lens with some fluids,
for me as i said my 4 month son pee on it
as my camera view & shots are much better now, however not as it was yet,
i gave it direct sunlight for 2-3mins 5-6 times in patches and kept rubbing it with soft cotton to give it some warmth,
i assume in 2-3 days it will be all better
To me it looks like it is some kind of filter that is getting worn down. My lense has become less resistant to direct light giving the picture an halo/dreamy look with lots of lens flares

He pee'd on your x1
Haha
U know what? i had mine for about 2 or 3 months now, and im very watchful of it. I notice my lens is starting to have those little marks too. Before it gets worse, i quickly bought a screen guard and just put it over the lens.
Problem solved
My lens instead has a sort of scratch... But I can't imagine I'm responsible for that, I took good care of my X1... Anyone has this problem too? Fortunately I can't make it out on pictures (yet).
But the those scratches are inside, not outside...for me is a construction problem of the lens! I don't like so much that false "dreamy filter" but, now i have and i have no money to change...hurra!!!!!
I've got the same kind of "foggy scratches" on the lens. The pictures seems to be out of focus and like using a soft filter. I compare the pictures taken in the beginnig and there is a big difference...
Hello, I´ve "had" the same problem. ( Im German, sorry about my english ).
As is noticed that Problem, I send my X1 back to Sony to repair. Then i got it back and the lens was okay.
Then after 2 Weeks i´ve got the same Problem again. I made Pictures from the lens, an pictures with the X1.
BUT : i have rub with the fingernail over the lens very hard. And wow : the lens is now 99% clear again. I don´t know where the dirt came from, and what it was ..... but now it´s gone....confused case.....
Here my pictures :
--------------------
Got exactly the same problem as in the first post and picture. I like to ride my bike and yeah I swet a lot during that LOL And I noticed recently that the pictures are "foggy". So I asked in our repair centre and they said it's actualy my problem. The same will hapen to your ordinary camera lens, if it comes to contact with sweat or saltwater. Also fingerprints are chemicaly agressive. If you leave it like this for a week or so, it'll gets more difficult to remove.
How did I fix this:
Basicaly, there are two ways. One is to get smooth finger file. Really smooth one. But if you don't take enough smooth one, you'll damage the lens.
So the other way is to take a tissue or old t-shirt and just clean the lens for few minutes. I tried and after 15 minutes it was gone and pictures are same as before - crappy but not foggy LOL
It's because the lens has same special layer as on digicams. Try to touch the digicam lens, leave it like that for a week or so, and you'll see
edit: it has nothing to do with scratches on your lens. I do have scratches as well, but it'll look different in the picture. The problem described here is simply what I wrote above - sweat and/or fingerprints

Strange reaction on teflon coating

Anyone else got this on their phone?
It started last night and seems to have got progressively worse.
I think it's time to get it in for a repair and get the leaking left hand bottom corner of my screen done at the same time.

I'm not sure, I can only say we have been on holiday this week and it has been TORRENTIAL rain all week.
But my phone hasn't got that wet at all?!?!?
Also when we returned to our apartment each night it was VERY VERY warm in there. I'm not sure if that's caused the issue or not.
Anyway, I'll ring HTC tomorrow.

Same here, only time I take off my case is to change battery's
I was doing a clutch replacement on my car last Feb and I accidentally got brake cleaner on the back of my G1. If anyone felt or has/had a G1 will know the back has a rubber feel to it almost like the Nexus One. The cleaner was only on for a few seconds and the result was exactly what your picture is showing. It caused it to wrinkle and bubble up. I peeled it away and ended up buying a new cover.
yep, brake cleaner'll do that lol
had you tried to clean the trackball at some point recently?
if so, what did you use so i dont use it lol
I noticed a small raised area on my bottom cover that could be the start of something similar. Did you get a reply from HTC?

I haven'y been able to contact them yet due to the Easter break.
I will be doing it first thing Tuesday.
Hopefully they'll repair it under warranty because to be honest I ave no idea whats happened.
Okay.
Rung HTC today.
Phone is being collected tomorrow and they did not ask if it was unlocked.
They also didn't ask for a CC to charge against.
Fingers crossed.

I tried taking a photo of it, but it's near impossible to capture. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't look for it after reading the OPs post. If it progresses I'll take one and contact HTC. Right now if I run my fingernail lightly across the front where the bottom half meets the metal frame I can feel a bump on the "teflon." Also when held up to the light and viewed at the proper angle I can see a very small line or crack.
If I posted the photos I doubt many people would be able to see it. Hopefully it stays this way and if it gets worse HTC will fix it.
Update:
Phone was collected Wednesday at 3:30pm.
They rung today to say it had been repaired and had passed final test and will be shipped either today or monday!
Not a bad service at all.
I'm presuming because of the speed they will send a replacement.
And this is why I advise using a skin protector

Supposedly it's military grade stuff so I bet it wouldn't even affect it. At the very least, I guarantee the effects of what the OP posted would at least be minimized greatly, if not prevented entirely.

LOL! Brake fluid and brake cleaner can look at plastic and it will dissolve. I don't care what grade it is, I promise you it will not hold up to it.
I tried taking some photos under sunlight to capture what could be the start of this problem. They are more difficult to see in the photos than with the eye, so I'm not entirely crazy about this and I'm posting these photos in case this can be used as an early warning sign of a more serious problem for other users. As I mentioned before I probably wouldn't have noticed for quite some time if I hadn't read the OPs post. The darkened spot circled in the photos is raised and can be felt when running my finger along it. When viewed at the proper angle there also appears to be a small crease/crack on the bump.
I had kept my phone in a full phantomskinz before and have since moved to a flexible TPU style case, so there's very little chance of me having bumped it somewhere.
Possible reasons this could be happening? Heat? Moisture? I'm really not sure, but if it turns into a problem like the OPs it could be trouble. Anyone think I should just contact HTC or should I wait and see what becomes of it?

Sister smashed phone on rocky beach

Hello guys.
Since my sister smashed my phone roughly 9 days ago on a rocky beach ->

It felt on the screen and then went back up in the air for about 30cm +/- and went on its back wich gave small dots on the plastic cover.
The screen itself survived (The screen is though as hell! , she smashed it hard!)
Now my phone is stuck a lot, and sometimes the picture (projectable screen) moves over the screen (fisical one) like if it doesnt know its place.
Now i contacted samsung wich says i had to go to http://site.e-care.nl/nl/pages/home to let it be picked up.
But no respond for a long time.
And Samsung keeps pushing to make a date for them to pick it up.
Does anybody know here if my phone is broken on the internals?
Or might it be something else?
And anybody know what to do with samsung?
I do have an insurance, but does it have to go that far?
Also for all customers.
This phone is a though rock. No other phone would have survived this at all. Maby an old Nokia :good:
Greetings
Mitch
I'd deffo say that's a hardware issue for the service centre to look at, not that i think it'll make the slightest difference, but have you tried taking the battery out and sticking it back in?

It pops up now and then, did not had a chance to make a picture yet.
But see it like this.
You have an tv, and it projects a screen.
That screen goes from the top to down and back to the top and down and back to the top again.
Just like some roadcommercial signs.
Its rolling through the screen.
Or it shows pink/magenta/green screen instead of all colours.

First why would your sister smash a 500 usd phone that doesn't belong to her...
Second your internals might be broken..
Third why don't you have a case
Forth if your sister does not have money and you don't have insurance make your parents to pay either for a replacement or a full repair including new housing..
That's what I'd do

Flash is ruining my photographs at night!!

Have tried the stock camera app and VSCOCAM as well - but still the flash is ruining my photographs. Haven't got a case on the phone when taking these images and to be honest... it's annoying as hell! Tried it with my girlfriends black Z1 as mine is white - and hers does the same...!
So, I assume that the flash is interfering with what the sensor is picking up, in which case... the phone isn't fit for purpose..?

Well it's fairly simple, flash pretty much always ruins a photo. Only use it if you really have to. Other than that, superior auto does a fairly decent job and if that doesn't quite cut it for you, you can try manual mode.
Other than that there isn't a whole lot more that we can do. Remember it's still a phone and not a DSLR. Low-light photography relies mostly on the lens that's fitted on the camera as far as I know. (correct me if I'm wrong) Due to the amount of light a real lens can capture and a smartphone lens simply can't.
Also the photo's you've taken maybe aren't that good of an example, the image without flash looks fine to me. I don't know what you're expecting to capture there, but if you want to show off the back of your car, it's perfectly fine.
PS. if that's your car, you may want to blur out the numberplate.
I had exactly the same problem with my Z, and i as well heard some people with Z1 had this problem too.
What u should do is to clean your lens and flash well and try it again to make some pictures.
Try it and respond here with what happend.
Thanks for the advice etc
Just wanted to test camera during darkness because I am going on holiday soon and want to know whether to buy a camera or if my phone will cut it enough for what I need it to do
It's one of many of my dad's imprezas... it's got pics of it many places on the web so it doesn't matter
The car was lit from behind me by an outdoor flood light so that's why I could capture it. I was just shocked that the ghosting on the right side of the image happened. Surely this means that the flash is completely unusable as it interferes with half of the image?

Yes, is unusable but if you switch the flash to torch when you make a picture you will see some improvement, same here, and you want to know why? They put the flash to close to the lens.
Just clean your lens and flash area well and it will help... That's how i fixed that problem.

Yes I thought as much... in which case... this means the device is faulty... as it's not useable in combination with flash at night?

The reasons can be many but for sure if they will made the phone with a flash more distanced from the lens we will not have this issue and in this case is like you said, an unrectifiable device design but is not faulty. You can get improvements by settings the flash sincronizations because I do not understand yet, why if I switch the torch on when I do the pictures at night they come out a little better than a picture with automatic flash. So here between this settings is something not right and that why you. like me too and others, do have this problem making pictures with flash. I will test again few things to be sure and I will post my opinion but now I am 100% sure if the flash will not be so close to the lens we will have less of this brightness in the pictures.
Taken two more images... much better!
Gave the entire rear of my phone a wipe. It may be because I run a fish and chip shop and grease may have covered the back a little bit?
Either way, it seems this issue may have been caused due to dirt that isn't visible...?

So you solved the problem, lucky you! I can clean how much I want but when I do the pictures I got always, more or less, the brightness in the pictures at night. I keep testing.
I'll have to test again at original location I took first pictures to see if it happens again.
Will just have to wait and see.. But so far so good
try putting a piece of white masking tape or white electrical tape over the flash. this should diffuse the light so it's not 'harsh'.
i have same issue and more worse also please remove back cover of your mobile becuse if you use flash it reflect try to remove and make foto

I am having the same issue with Z3. Mine even worse. I tried many things to fix. But I noticed the problem came to me after the first OTA update. Now my flash is only for torch.

Front camera off centerd. Should I care?

Hello.
So recently got my replacement of note 5 due to screen issue.
This unit is perfect the only problem is my FFC is off centerd towards bottom left.
Its not blocking picture or anything.
Just getting ocd.
So guys should I care? If the ffc is off centerd?
Posting a pic might help.

These are the two picture.
Doesn't look like its a major thing. You should take it to a Samsung Repair Center... They should be able to fix and give it back.
Well actually its not blocking pictures in anyway.. So debating should i take it for repair or not.

I had OCD just like you. I would take it. And I don't think you'll be charged for it. Its a brand new device.

My S3 had a similar problem, but for the back camera. They fixed it in half hour. That's why I suggested taking it repair center.
Oh ya! Rear is actually easier to fix.. For front they will need to replace the screen or. The whole unit. Thats why debaiting.

That could be a problem... since its not doing anything go photos. You can just keep it then. Changing the whole unit is a big hassle

My experia z1 with exact same issue.. But going strong fr years.
Would love to know other people thoughts as well.
my note 5 looks the same. it seems like the lens they are using causes it to look like off centered. Don't worry about it. Better that then them trying to dissemble the whole phone for one camera that has no defect.

I think you are right.
As the camera is working perfectly fine. It will be horrundus to sent the phone for repair. Just now I have to try controlling my damm ocd.
OCD stinks! Thanks for making me check mine. It is slightly off. Nothing to worry about. My Lumia 1520 rear camera was way off and I never had an issue. It should be fine as long as there is no vignette. ?

Have you seen my front camera pic i attached ? Do you think its way off center? Should i be worried? I know it dosent harm anything just my damm ocd.
It probably won't make difference unless your phone is pointing at an extreme angle to the sun to cause adverse vignette shading. I liken it to that micro scratch on the screen you never noticed until that one day when the sun hit it just right. Now you can't take your eyes off it...LOL!
Well, if it's a $50 phone I wouldn't care but for me it's a $1000+ phone so yeah they can fix/replace it until I get what I paid for....a premium phone.
