Hi there,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my HTC One. I received it yesterday, and I believe that the GPU memory is getting corrupted when loading large images. I've uploaded a video:
HTML:
videobam.com/rzFTy
(xda won't let me link unless I make ten posts)
It has happened on both stock sense and CyanogenMod 10.1.3-RC2 and today's CyanogenMod 10.2 nightly.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem, and does anyone know how to proceed with fixing this? It is just the graphics buffer - if I take a picture on the camera, it's fine. When I zoom into an image in the gallery, it's fine. When I have the camera open under low light conditions, it's fine. But give it a detailed image and it goes crazy.
What's even more interesting is that if I drag down the notification bar, the notification bar doesn't get corrupted, it's fine. Underneath, the corruption still goes on.
Please help?

I remmember this happening to me with a custom rom. Try the stock rom and it will probably be fixed.

I'll try it out - on the stock ROM I was on yesterday (before unlocking the bootloader), it still had the same issue. Disappeared after a pending update, but I never tested that update very thoroughly. I'll post back after I try this out.
Do you know of any reason why this could be happening? I like AOSP better than Sense, so I'd rather stick with CM or equivalent, but if it becomes unusable because of this I'll be forced to switch back to sense.

Check the developer options and make sure the show screen updates option is turned off. Food for the thoughts.

Don't worry, I've made sure that the show screen updates option is disabled. If it were on, this problem would happen all over the place, instead of intermittently when loading large images or under non-low-light conditions. There's nothing in the logcat when this glitch happens either, which makes it difficult to track down.

I don't mind about everything being deleted. I haven't got anything important on the device - I have yet to transfer my files from my old one.
Could you please link to a stock RUU for hboot 1.54?

There isn't a RUU available for later versions.
RUU files aren't released by HTC as they're intended for service centre use.
The ones that are accessible to xda community were leaked versions.
The source of these leaks seems to have "run dry"

Leaked or not, they are there in case we need them
I suggest to s-off and flash newest firmware and maxiumusHD ROM

flashed the zip, worked wonders.
Maybe I'm just "special" but I didn't know there was a way to rotate with multi-touch. I installed the latest nightly, flashed this file... now what do I do?
Thanks!
Any idea if this would work on MIUI?

It's in apps like google maps 5 which allow you to rotate the map using multitouch.
Sorry for the confusion.
Also, it might work for MIUI. There's nothing special about the fix.. it just adds permissions for the discrete multitouch interface.
works with nightly 174.
i flashed to miui, doesnt appear to have changed anything?
Thanks a lot for this. Works great.

Yikes! I did stress to back up.. you never know what can happen.
Well I'm not sure what to say.. the update has worked fine on many phones (even a moto droid).. so I'm sure it works.
I don't know where the middle eastern song could have came from. The zip only contains an update-script and the fixed xml file.
If you guys can give me some more info, rom, updates, some possible causes.. maybe I can help you. I'm going to post the md5sum, so maybe you guys can double check that the file downloaded all the way. I'm not here to make malicious posts.. so something else must have happend..

It's my own fault for not creating a backup first. I thankfully did a full backup on 12-15 so I'm restoring that now (after doing a full wipe).
I'm running CM 6.1 stable, Invisiblek #17 AOSP kernel. I don't think you're creating a malicious post. Who knows where the problem lies. It could have been anything and just triggered with the fix you posted. I'll let you know how it goes after the restore.

I was running 6.1 stable. After flashing over with the 184 nightly, rotate didn't work for me either. Restored back to 6.1 and applied this fix, and now it's working fine.
I've flashed over many nightlies with no issues, always assuming all of the fixes were in place. Do the changes in the nighties only completely apply with a full wipe? Do some of them not apply with a flash over? Actually in this case it appears they don't. That is concerning...

Thanks for clearing that up.
It's been quite a learning curve getting my Sprint CDMA Galaxy Tab and attempting to load every Miui, CM7/CM9 I could find on XDA and Rootzwiki. I never fully tested my tablet before beginning the delve into the flashing world so I don't know if this is an issue with the tablet itself or caused by my endless flashing trials.
I simply am unable to save any settings or data. Everytime I boot up, no matter which ROM (Miui CM7/9), it is always factory reset. This is quite frustrating.
I'm back on stock from odining Sprint EF17 GB w/ original PIT file and this is still happening. Does anyone have any idea if this was self-incurred or if there is a partitioning bug of some sort that I have missed.
Much Thanks in advance!
So every time you turn on your Tab it loads and then reboots in a continuous loop? Do you see the Android OS unlock screen or the load process does not gets so far? Because if it does not then in my opinion the boot loader is incorrect for some reason. That is my opinion.
What you can do if you suspect that the PIT is incorrect, you read your PIT and save via Heimdall and compare it with somebody else who has the same Tab as you have.
Unable to personalize "issue"

Negative. This is not a continuous loop bug. It is a "unable to personalize" bug. I can install market/apps/data/contacts etc etc, but every single time I boot up. it's a Fresh Copy with no personalized settings.

Yes I booted into CWM,fixed permissions, rebooted, put 2-3 icons on desktop, rebooted.
Nothing, it was back to factory default settings.
A permissions issue does make sense, but it didn't work and this is just mind boggling to me.

Hmmmm... I suppose you guy's already tried to wipe all caches and reflash the kernel (= not the ROM, just the kernel) ?
Where do I find the Kernal?
It's the zImage file right?
The ROM I'm on right now is JT's CM7 here:
I wanted to try just flashing the kernal but I am unable to locate the zImage file. What directory is it in?
Edit: I found the Kernal, it's actually in the CWM 5.0.2.7 package. I'm gonna try flashing the kernal over to see if it fixes the issue.
Edit2: No cigar, reflashing kernal does not fix this issue. On a side note, I tried to upgrade to CM9 and got "Encryption Unsuccessful". Not that I am knowledgable in this, but it seems the issue may share some commonality with that.

Hi,
Yah, zImage should be the kernel.

Anyway, my bad, it's not NoFrillsCPU but it's SetCPU ... It's in the OP : "Please DO NOT check the "Set on Boot" button in SetCPU untill you have tested it, or you may not be able to get control back without a reflash."
EDIT : Looks like there's a misunderstanding in me confused about the CDMA versions. Sounds like this thread has all the solutions you need. I may be wrong , of course...

I think you have my issue confused with another . My issue is that everytime I boot it's a clean boot with google account reset/desktop reset. I can't save any settings or download any apps without it getting wiped by a boot. I don't even think my ROM is currently overclocked but I'll look to see if indeed it's hiding in here somewhere.
Let me know if you see anything else that I can try :-(
Thanks though
Edit: Just checked, my system was not overcloccked and set on boot was not checked so this is definetely not the same issue.

Bump! Bump Bump.
I got the pre-rooted ics rom on my Vivid. Now, everytime I restart my phone, it goes into this "Android is upgrading" screen and starts "optimizing" applications. IS there any workaround to this?
*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, my phone still boots up after that, but it gets annoying having to sit through that screen every time I restart my phone.
Also, I get no audio from any apps but my music app... No music from videos, games, or any other app... What is with this???
mines does the same thing, and mine wont let me message, just says please wait.....
Same thing here. Mine takes about 30seconds to reboot, so i don't mind. Got used to that years ago, when i had a BB9000.
same here, but only when I choose restart. If I soft boot, power off and manually turn it on it does not do that.

Glad to hear it!
I'll try to keep this one explained simple
- Was running have boot loader unlocked and am rooted, was trickdroid
- Decided to try what else was out there for ROMS, switched to Renovate rom, was a downgrade from trickdroid in my eyes
- Decided to switch to one more rom before making the jump back to trickdroid, accidentally wiped internal storage data along with everything else
- After wasting most of my day messing with this crap, I finally got everything back to somewhat operational again
- My internal memory and Cache at one point were unmountable and read 0MB, had to do a factory reset via boot loader then a full wipe using TWRP
- Finally have trickdroid installed and its semi operational, aside from the fact that when I load it, it instantly has no service, no internet, nothing. It sends me to the launcher portion and there are no apps on there either. Shortly after it starts it will restart the device.
-After doing several restarts into recovery I have confirmed that the system partition consistently unchecks itself and I have already attempted fixing permissions several times and doing a system wipe and full ROM install again.. same issue to no avail.
- Last night I actually managed to pull up icons and programs, somehow, but again there was no system being loaded up
A little help please? I am in a state of a soft brick at this point, which is not bad considering I had a SUPER HARD brick earlier.
Help me, please. I just want to get this phone back to a functioning state!

A hard brick is unrecoverable. It means your phone is literally as responsive as a brick. I would say your phone is pretty functional if the actual OS loads.
Anyway, have you tried RUU? That usually brings everything back to normal. Be sure to use the correct one, and note that you will lose EVERYTHING. Even root.
EDIT: Try this.

So I did try using this link and downloaded the full zip file and unzipped as per instructions of QBKing77 off of youtube, then clicked setup.exe within the folder which was unzipped, but after it ran through its setup process, nothing else popped up? Hello from my finally unbricked one! Turns out I was having issues with the computer itself launching installshield so it wouldn't keep the factory RUU running. I did it from a different computer and it did it in stride.. I'm so happy to have this thing back. So on a sidenote I had to rwlock bootloader and then I had to reload the factory RUU.
So I have screwed up pretty bad and now tried fixing the problem myself before asking for help.
Earlier I flashed Android Revolution HD 12.3 to finally realize that I didnt work with sprint, however I forgot to make a back-up for my phone. I have tried using adb sideload to install viper's rom v1.1.0 via TWRP. After the flash is complete and I click reboot, I get an error saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you want to reboot?"
If I swipe to reboot, I end up with a black screen with a toolbar at the top. I am totally lost and have been searching to forums for hours on end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I have been able to get viperROM to boot to the startup screen, however with a minute or so I get an error which states "Precess system is not responding, would you like to close it?" Then my phone restarts to the black screen.
You messed up your partitions by flashing that rom. From bootloader select factory reset to get your partitions back and then sideload your sprint rom and you should be set.
Or this method will work too.

I tried the first method and didnt have any luck. I did notice that when looking through the install folder, the .zips are no longer listed. However, when the phone turns on for a few seconds and I am able to open files through my PC, they are listed there.
Second method got me to the startup screen. As I attempted to connect to wifi, I had no phone service and also there was an error connecting to wifi due to "temporarily avoiding poor connection". Then the phone instantly restarted back to a black screen.

You're lucky the partitions aren't aligned in a way that your hboot was overwritten. Otherwise you'd have a brick instead of a phone.

I know, I really lucked out. Took a solid 14+ hours of research and trial and error to figure out how to fix it. I had rooted my old evo 4G a few times thinking I still knew what I was doing, but that was a while ago. I should have definitely took some extra time to do some more research before I flashed.
This is why i don't flash roms from another section even though some have sprint version i just don't trust them

I flashed viper's sprint version of his ROM and havent been receiving text messages or phone calls. I think its time to just give up on keeping my phone rooted. I havent had any favorable results yet.
So I ran a RUU to get everything back to stock as described above, however I am no longer receiving text messages or phone calls. I can send them though. Would anyone know why?
