[Q] Paranoid Android V 3.99 camera landscape orientation - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda
I would like to ask for assistance regarding changing the orientation of the camera in paranoid android
For a really long time now, regardless of the custom rom, i've always had the phone oriented landscape when taking pictures. I recently downloaded paranoid android 3.99 and i'm happy to see that the graphics problem with cm10,1 based anrdoid 4.3 roms seems to have been fixed. I did notice now though that the phone should be oriented profile to take pictures.
i tested taking pictures in profile for a few days and i noticed that the edges look a bit distorted and it's really difficult to take pictures of scenery because it's hard to fit everything in profile.
How do i change this back to landscape? I've checked hybrid settings and the settings of the phone and i tried different search words in search but i couldn't find anything.
thank you

Touch Diamond/Pro camera tip: Increase the responsiveness

I have to say my Diamond camera pictures are superb. I really do like the quality of pictures it takes and I use it a lot. Low light, macro, daylight, it's all good. However, controlling it can be very frustrating at times.
Sometimes I can't get it to respond or take a picture at all. I've used many ROMs and have had the same experience across the board. I'm sure many other Diamond or Touch Pro users have as well. I've found the problem to be that dang circle smart touch ring. It sounds useful to use with the camera but IMHO it only causes more problems than good. Initially I had my camera shoot option set to "Touch and press". I thought I would like to be able to focus first then click the action button after. Like my regular point and shoot. Well, it works some of the time. A lot of times it hangs up or freezes OR... It starts zooming in or out because I accidentally touch the ring.
So with that said, I have since forced my camera to work like the old days. Click of the action button only. I set my shooting option to "Full Press". It still will auto focus on it's own before the shot and then take the picture automatically. I've had no problems with this. It works great even with macro shots. But there is a second step I had to do which is actually more important I think. That is disabling the ring within the camera. To do that go into the the Registry Key: HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Camera
Back this key up then proceed to delete everything in it. That will disable the smart touch ring from working within the camera. It still works everywhere else though. I don't see the need to zoom when taking the pic since it's digital zoom anyway. I can zoom on it in the Album afterward. You can still zoom if you want just by pressing the screen and touching it though.
Now my camera has been working like a charm without any hang ups, freezes or accidental zooming. Also when I press the screen to bring up the menu or hit the X it opens up every time too. Now when I reach for my Diamond camera to take a picture I'm much more confident that it will work on demand every time.
Much better for me and maybe you.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't taken the plunge on registry editing yet, but I'll definitely keep this in mind if I decide to. Any chance of releasing the edits as a CAB?
Really shame on HTC for not including this as an option. The combo zoom and shoot button is ridiculous.
I removed the entries from HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Camera as you recommended also set the shoot option to Full Press and now i'm pretty pleased with my HTC Touch Diamond's camera. Thanks for sharing this info with us!

Desire Cam vs Stock Nexus Camera - still shots

I wanted to create a thread specifically for showing pictures taken with either the Desire Camera ported to the Nexus, or the stock camera app. In my opinion, the desire camera takes better pictures, even if very slightly. But who knows? And maybe we can learn something from each other about how to take better pictures with this awesome phone?
Please put along with your photos:
Camera (Desire or Stock)
Lighting source (indoors/outdoors)
Megapixel level
ISO Level
Changes in brightness/contrast/saturation/sharpness or any relevant settings
Focus (Auto/Off/Tap to Focus)
White Balance
Any other settings changed from default, or relevant information.
Pens at my work
After clicking on link, Right click on picture and hit View Image in Firefox (and whatever is the equivalent method in IE and other browsers)
Desire Camera
Indoor lighting
5 Megapixel level
ISO 100
Tap to Focus (on yellow marker)
Auto White Balance
I should really do some comparison shots, Ive got a stock N1 I can get my hands on, 720p'ed rooted custom etc N1, a stock desire and a froyo'ed desire
I compared the stock camera and the one that comes with CM RC3 and it turns out that both have almost same output. Camera360, however, does a pathetic job sometimes. The night mode (and the enhance contrast mode) on Camera360 does a *brilliant* job though.

What camera comes with CM RC3?
How is this in the QandA section? This isn't a question! Mods please move it back to general!

Images from Camera always landscape?

Hello, I was wondering whether anyone else has this problem? It seems that whichever way I take photos from the Camera, the resulting photos will be landscape even if I took it in portrait mode. I really don't like having to rotate every single portrait photo that I've taken. For example, I always have to rotate a portrait pic before uploading it on Twitter, otherwise it'll be sideways. Very troublesome.
I've googled the problem, searched throughout xdadev but no one seems to have this kind of problem. What's more annoying - the resulting photos show up correctly in the gallery, but when I transfer it to my laptop, the pics remain sideways. Very strange as my old Desire HD always auto-rotate a pic taken in portrait mode.
Cheers guys!

JACK HI, I believe there is a sort of problem(setting?) That causes that behaviour
Cause I can take pics in all the way and they are shown in the same way...landscape - landscape and portrait - portrait. With every rome I had!
If u don't find a solution rotate them manually ...which anyway is annoying !

Thanks for replying, simika! Unfortunately I've dug everywhere and there is no menu in the Settings that could solve my problem. It really is annoying having to manually rotate them because I love taking pictures in Portrait mode!
3rd party apps also won't autorotate image results. So annoyed.
I have the same problem. Looks all ok on the phone itself, but after transfer, they are all in landscape. I don't have that with my other 2 cameras and iphone.
I noticed that on one of my cameras, there are two settings, one to "rotate in camera only", and one to "rotate in camera and PC".
Looks like Note performs option 1, even though I have not found any setting at all in Note.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but I've just discovered this same problem for my phone. Was this ever resolved? When I take snapshots, it's usually in portrait mode. Well I noticed something. While everything looks fine on the phone in the gallery, when sending people pictures, they sometimes (not all the time) get them in landscape. I also noticed that when uploading pictures to twitter, or facebook, pictures will be landscape, always rotated 90 degrees to the right. So in stead of "I" , I get "_" .
Then I noticed something, when entering the camera app, the status bar automatically appears on the right side of the phone, as if it's assuming that I rotated my phone to the left, meaning the right side of the phone is now the 'top.' Then when I hit the home button, I see my main screen rotate back to normal. I've tried turning screen rotation on and off, restarting my phone, powering down completely, removing the battery, and even turning off "auto rotate screen" in the accessibility options. I'm currently rooted and using a slightly modified official AT&T ICS ROM.

GalleryNext and CameraNext from CM11S

So I've been using these for the past couple of days, both on stock CM11 and on Carbon. These have been pulled straight from the Oneplus One and should work on any ROM that has CM11 as a base. Try them out if you want.
GalleryNext
CameraNext
Both apps is working on AOSB.
IMO the camera app is even better than Moto X camera.
Loving the gallery. Thanks!
Thanks fallendown,
I've spent the whole morning looking for and testing alternative Camera.apk for my phone
and I can say that this is the one that will get it's spot in the system/app folder :victory:
It is essentially the same camera as the CM11's one but with [imho] a much better user interface.
[I've never been a fan of the simili-pie control settings of Camera2.apk].
For others that could be tempted to test drive it, here are few more of my observations*:
*: [tested on a 4-5 days old CM11 nightly build]
- you can install the camera as either a stand-alone [unkonown sources checked] apk OR push it to: system/app [and set its permissions as other file in there] [and reboot];
- you can manually and independently set the front/rear camera resolutions to 16:9 ratio [cropped to 6MP for back] [which is exactly what I was after to begin with so :good: :good:];
- you can hand-pick the scene modes that you frequently use.
Let's say: cloudy, portrait, backlight, actionmode, nightmode, etc.
Then you can directly swipe up/down on the cam screen to flick through/apply them.
No need to have to fight with the phone with muddy mountain bike gloves on some tiny little camera settings buttons and have to scroll through a 3 pages-long list of scene modes on a cloudy day....
..pretty awesome if you ask me!!
OK, phone's charging and has to cool down; testing the crap out of 4-5 installed cameras got the battery bloody hot...
Time to go decompile that beast and see what theming magic I can add to it ;-p
Thanks again for the find.
Cheers,
/AL
Edit: it turns out that "cloudy" is not a scene mode but a white balance [set with one or two small button touch] but the rest remains true and you guys get the point I'm sure. Here are two screenshots to make up for the slight mistake. /A

Camera depth of colour changed since upgrade to emu 10

Hi
can you help.
Since upgrading the depth in colour on the camera is very poor.
I sell vacuum cleaners mainly online and used to love how the pictures came out. Now they look very weak in colour with no depth.
I won't lie. When i first got the camera I can't remember if i made any settings changes but I have been playing around with it and can't seem to re-create it.
One thing I used to touch the screen to focus on a point and the picture used to darken slightly which looked good. Also it was a circle. Now it's a square and the picture goes lighter which I hate.
Can you guys help..?
I did try to roll back to EMU 9 through hi suite but it won't give me the option. I did enable HDB etc but it still does not give me the option. If you guys can't help with the camera settings, is there any other way to rollback..? I don't care about security etc and new features, the main use was for the pictures.
Hi,
I was wondering if you saw the option to revert to factory settings in camera when you open settings? Try doing that?
As for darkening the photo, when you touch the place you want to focus, the little sun appears on the side of the square. Try swiping up or down to lighten or darken the photo.
