[Q] Cut/Paste failed files lost please help. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
The new slimbean 4.3 has come out so I was backing up my files, when I tried to cut and paste my DCIM folder to my sd card via slim file manager it said paste failed. And now all my photos are gone, is there a way I can get them back? I don't see why when the paste failed it didn't put the files back where they were. I could really use some help.
Thanks in advance,
Nik

[Q] Deleted sd folder!

I have a Samsung Captivate and I accidentally deleted the sd (at least that is what i think it was called) folder. How do I get it back? If I just create a new folder that says 'sd' will it still save things onto my internal sd card?
my /sd/ folder is empty at least looking at it from the OI file manager on the phone
I think mine was as well but I want to put music on my phone and i want it to go on the internal sd. I tried seeing if the files would go directly on the sd so i put a few music files in a folder i created but when i checked my task manager the internal memory storage changed, not the internal sd storage.

It depends what OS you are running.
2.1 used /sdcard for internal and /sdcard/sd for external
2.2 moved these directories under /mnt but left the old directories empty

Does anybody know what to do if the sd folder is deleted?
I noticed I had an 'sd' folder and an 'external_sd' folder. The sd folder was blank, so I deleted it after I viewed it on my pc - there was nothing in it. It didn't seem to be needed. But now I can't view certain files on my phone only. I can view them on my laptop via USB connection using Windows Explorer.
To attempt to find this folder on my phone, that I CAN see on my laptop using Windows Explorer, I created a txt file in that folder (that I can't find on my phone), naming it 'sdmissing.txt'. I searched everywhere on my phone, even from root directory, trying to find this file and couldn't. Yet after connecting to my laptop via USB, I can see it. What can I do??
Thanks in advance for any help!

backup important data and apps with tibu or any other apps in the market and perform factory reset with your phone it should bring you back to where you are.

Turn off and on ur phone to see if it works for you or not. I found that sd is a hidden folder and its blank. When I flash custom roms, I do it without going to stock. But, I do delete Android, data, sd and some other folders, that I know will be automatically created after the reboot/flash. When I go to cwm recovery to install rom from zip, I do see the Android folder and sd folder showing up there. Don't panic. Just do normal shutdown and restart. If that doesn't fix, reflash the custom rom if you are using one.

What to keep after rom upgrade?

Hi everyone.
I have a Google G1 and have recently upgraded to Cyanogen 6.0.0.
After the upgrade there are a lot of files left on the SD card and I would like to know which I need to keep and which I can get rid of?
The files are;
Android folder which contains another folder called data, which contains the following files; com.coolaris.media and com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget.news-content-cache
other folders are;
Clockworkmod
.android_secure
and in the download folder there are lots of .apk files all are downloadfile.apk from 1 to 14.
Do I need to keep any of these files on my sd card or can they be deleted after the installation?
Thank you for any help.

I would just keep all of that on your SD card, since it doesn't take up that much space to begin with.
However, I had a bunch of those downloadfile.apk's in my download folder, I deleted all of them, and everything was okay. You can probably delete all of those and not have a problem.
Thank you very much for the help mattdrumz, very kind.

[Q] Data loss from internal storage and sd card

Hi guys
I plugged my note into my pc using usb cable to transfer games I had downloaded. After unplugging I discovered that all video files and all picture files have disappeared from both the internal sd and my sd card. This is really confusing. I've no idea how this has happened and what I can do to restore it all. This is really upsetting as we had a new baby recently and all my photos of her and my other kids have disappeared. :crying:
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.

Just reboot your device and check again
Hi
Tried reboot. Still nothing. File manager shows folders as being there, but contents are missing.

If they are really deleted try something like "DiskDigger" and check if it finds your pictures.
I used it on the JB leak which doesn't show all files and folders when connected to the PC. I didn't think of this and deleted an "old and empty" folder. I lost about 200 pictures of my baby.
With this tool I got back all of them.
That sounds fantastic, I'll give it a go. Many thanks!

Where are my photo's

Hi All,
I have just rooted my One.
I backed up the entire SD Card and I have copied some things back (DCIM, Downloads, My music (apart from my Play store offline files).
I cannot locate many of the images I took with the phone prior to root. I can also not for the life of me figure out why so much space is consumed on my memory considering what I have on the device.
Regardless, I didnt know if there was some secret hiding place that things go to hide.
I had many of these photo's in their own folders within the Gallery, these are also unavailable.
I have since backed up my photo's to DropBox, and they all appear in there, so I am looking to sync my PC with my dropbox tonight then copy the photo's I want back to the phone, but firstly I need to know these files arent still hiding on my "sd card" before I go and further duplicate them.
Is there anyone out there who has gone through the same thing and has some pointers as to what to look for as I find the file structure within ES File Manager quite confusing with SD and 0/ with emulated partition that seems to be a dupliucate of SD Card etc etc.
Sorry, very noob question, however I have been rooting phones for ages, my last being the HTC OneXL and everything seemed to make so much more sense on that phone.
Any advice would be greatly greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Scott
Yes, the SD and 0/ folder is a duplication of your storage, so do not need that folder. You can delete any other stuff inside the media folder, though. If everything is already stored on your computer, how about you format the SD card and use adb to sideload a ROM? In other words, a clean, fresh install.

Vold.fstab file deleted

Hi everybody.
I´m trying to restore back a Moto G in which the Vold.fstab has been deleted. It seems weird but it disappeared and i still don´t know how. As a result the sd card memory is no longer available. The phone has Android 6.0 installed.
I would appreciate very much if anyone could upload the VOLD.FSTAB file or at least copy and paste the text of the file, in order to create my own VOLD.FSTAB file.
Thank you very much, your help is greatly appreciated.
