[Q] HTC One Touchscreen Issue - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
It appears there is a single point on the screen which is not responsive to touch. To test and confirm, I downloaded a drawing app, when I hit a certain point on the screen, there is no line drawn. A rather strange problem to have but quite annoying. I have an unlocked bootloader and the rest of the technical details for the phone are below. I have tried a couple of different custom roms, all with the same issue.
Anyone know if this is a technical issue ? Would flashing a firmware update fix the issue ?
S-ON
Device : PN0710000
Boot loader 1.54.0000
HBOOT - 1.54.0000
Any help is greatly appreciated

From what you've explained, I had the same issue. About 25% down from the top of the screen there was a band about a quarter of an inch thick that would not accept any touch input, regardless of what ROM I was running. In case it matters, I have an HTC One Developer Edition, and the phone was never dropped or anything..
Unfortunately it is a hardware problem, and I ended up having to send in in for an RMA. It took a bit over a week from the day I sent it in, and when I got it back they had locked the bootloader..
Just to be safe, I refreshed an RUU to ensure they didn't try to pin the blame on flashing anything I did..
Good luck!

Thanks for your response, called HTC and they advised as the bootloader was unlocked, my warranty is now void. Tried to explain that its a hardware issue and not software fell on deaf ears.
Guess I'll just have to live with it

Relocked boot loader after HTC repair

So I've never posted here before but been using the tips and tricks from the MDA all the way through nexus one.
Anyway, last Wednesday night i had a few too many drinks and my phone suffered a cracked LCD.
Sent my phone to HTC and what came back was a COMPLETELY stock, LOCKED boot loader. still my phone, because i marked the phone's internals with my initials before i sent it out. I called HTC and they said my phone still has a warranty.
just an FYI
Anyone else experience this?
What "internals" did you mark? Most likely it's not the same phone.
Could be same phone, different motherboard.
a referb motherboard would make some sense, I just marked the internal battery tray area with some initials.
This may be a silly question, but wouldn't my device #s be different if they changed out the motherboard? everything still matches the original imei and s/n both on the physical placard and in adb...
Let me know if this is a dumb question...
but why would they replace the mobo in response to a cracked AMOLED screen?

my guess is they probubly flash the whole phone back to stock for testing. Its easier to troubleshoot when you eliminate all outside variables. They prob replaced the screen, used a .img file to flash everything back to stock including the SPL, which would account for the relocked bootloader, and tested to make sure the new screen was working correctly. Am i correct in assuming that all your apps and settings were reset too?

Your not the first to have a re-locked bootloader. Everyone that sent their phone in for repair gets their bootloader re-locked.

Second this.
I've sent mine in twice now for dust..etc.
Both times the same phone has been returned with a locked bootloader (for about 5 mins) ;-)

I sent my unlocked bootloader back and HTC gave me a replacement for free. They didn't charge me anything. They even deemed it as a "software issue".
so u can send ur phone in for the dust under the screen? Whats the turn around on that. And Id be pissed if they re locked my ****. I dont wanna do all that again. Id have to tell them not to ...lol
My dust isnt bad.. only noticeable when screen the screen is in sleep mode in a well lit place.

I agree with you
Hey me too!+++++
Iam a rough kinda guy and thought a gell case would do for protection so i took it to work and didnt even know i dented the back where the sim card is at with a sledge hammer!..bamm SOOOO I cracked the inside of the guts in the phone.. and sent it in for repairs right? I told the HTC tech that I had dust under the screen which I did and told em that the the screen crack from the inside was from constient temp change.... they charge me 130 to fix and I told them to keep the f**cking phone cuz when I had it ,it was all dusty and those bend test and all the videos of it being rugged was **** and was always swichin 3g and ****. so 2 days later I get my phone back .and looks ****in brand new.. the best part is 2 days later after I got it back theres an extra 150 in my account and its from google .130+20 cuz the tech hold fee.. sick uh?
So, if it still somehow the same phone, could it be possible that they simply reflashed something on top of the phone to relock its bootloader?
Meaning it IS possible.

Of course it possible. We just don't have the right SPL.

[Q] Headphone jack broken + Unlocked Bootlader = warranty?

Hello,
I posted this in the other headphone jack thread amd didn't get an answer.
My headphone plug broke a few days ago. It works, until I barely touch the connector (i.e. in my jeans pocket), that's when I lose the left channel completely. I tried several units, they all the same problem.
I have unlocked the bootloader a while back. I understand that the warranty "may" have been voided as per HTC, however this is very obviously a hardware issue.
Does anyone know how HTC will handle this?
If that changes anything, I can also send it to Rogers' repair center instead of HTC directly.
Then again, I don't feel like loosing my phone for a few weeks if it's going to be useless or if I'm charged a pretty huge amount.
Has anyone been running into a similar issue?
Thanks!

Have you seen this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301998) thread? It offers a few things to try, like covering the exposed metal/silver with a piece of electrical tape, and also suggests an app that disabled headphone buttons, so if it's shorting and thinking a button's being pressed, it won't matter

In both cases, won't they see "RELOCKED" if they boot to HBOOT? I've never actually tried to relock it, so I don't know, however it is my understanding that you can never have back a "LOCKED" HBOOT, only "RELOCKED" or "UNLOCKED".
I just had this problem and I contacted ATT. Here is my chatlog with them:
me: so my friend did something called an unlock bootloader on my phone
me: will that affect my warranty
att: Rooting your device would certainly cause issues on your phone, and ultimately affect your device and warranty.
att: I would avoid any rooting systems on the device.
me: so is my warranty void?
att: Did you download that program on your device ?
me: my friend did something on the HTC website
att: That step is not available on the HTC manufacturer's website, rooting the device would be found on a 3rd party website.
att: Was the software on your device rooted ?
me: how do i check that?
att: How do you check if your software has been rooted ?
att: I would not have that information, only the HTC manufacturer would be able to diagnose if the software has been tampered with. Did your friend root your device software ?
me: he said he went on htcdev
me: and used an unlock tool
att: Correct ! that is a 3rd party website
me: so my warranty is void?
att: I will honor this exchange as a 1 time courtesy, for future reference I would advise no rooting of the software on your device due to that could cause issues on the device.
I had the exact same problem as you and I just sent my vivid to them. idk if they are going to charge me but so far it looks good
Ugh, join the club. I can't stand the headphone jack BS. I have to hold the phone perfectly still or playback will pause.
I recently had the same problem. Headphone jack quit on unlocked and rooted Vivid. Using the Superguide from the Development section, I relocked and unrooted the phone. I brought the phone to an AT&T store. They checked the headphone jack, made sure it was broken, and went and got me a new one. They didn't check for any modification to the software. But relock and unroot just in case.

Digging this thread from the graveyard.
My Bell Raider started doing this well... 30 minutes ago. I was actually having some minor issues with headphones, but until now, longer plugs (with mic) were working like a charm. Well now nothing works...
My problem is I am Bootloader Unlocked, S-OFF (void sticker gone...) and running a custom ROM...
Does anyone have a solution regarding this?

Bought htc vivid from craigslist, has dead pixels. Possibly under warrenty?

Didn't the HTC Vivid come out in November 2011? If so I should have some type of warranty still right? I have original box, and have registered the imei under my account. The screen has 3 black dots 1cm apart from each other, in 5 places in the middle of the screen in perfect lines. Also, it has blue splotches in 3 or 4 spots.
Person sold it to me claimed it was almost brand new and it looks to be in great shape other then the screen (Was outside, didn't see the pixels until I got home.)
Any advice? I called my local AT&T store today and the guy didn't even know when the phone came out to check if it was still under warranty. I am wondering if I should contact HTC directly or if calling 611 (AT&T) would result in better luck.
I love the phone so I want to keep it and get it fixed.
Check if it's S-OFF or has an unlocked bootloader. An unlocked bootloader (or relocked) may void the warranty, but since the guy said that it was almost brand new, everything's probably the way it came out of the box (but check anyways!). Also, call the guy you bought it off of about the screen. If the screen was defective to begin with, then it should be covered under warranty. HTC's policy doesn't cover problems caused by wear and tear or physical damage.
Don't forget that you'll need the original proof of purchase for your claim. If you don't have it, call the guy to see if you can obtain it. It's worth reading HTC's warranty statement for any small details.
So yes, your phone may be covered under the warranty, although there are a few things you'll need to get and check.
I hope this helps!
You might be in luck. Sometimes the warranty follows the device and now the original owner, doesn't hurt to try even without proof of purchase.
Also, we need to check to make sure your phone isn't tampered with so warranty will go smoothly. Turn off your device, pull the battery, put battery back in, hold the power button while holding the volume down button. On that screen, let us know if it says "locked", "unlocked", or "relocked" and also "S-OFF" or "S-ON". If it is locked and S-ON then you are good to go.
Well im a flash addict and first thing I did was unlock bootloader and flash a Rom. It's still s-on and I know I can relock the bootloader but I assume they can see its been relocked.
It was a girl who sold it to me and she isn't very helpful and I believe she knew it was messed up and didn't tell me. Also she drove 35 minutes to meet me. Maybe she will respond to my VM / text but probably not.
It has had the highest end otterbox on it from day 1 (supposedly) and it has 0 scratches and actually looks brand new minus the screen.
When I get home from work ill upload a high res pic of the screen. The pixels are perfectly aligned all the way down the screen. Idk how someone could break it themselves and the dead spots be so perfectly aligned.

I've heard multiple stories where people's phones were unlocked and even S-OFF and HTC either didn't care or didn't look. Go ahead and re-lock the bootloader and then run your carriers RUU to get back to stock. Your issue a hardware related one. Therefore I can't possibly see a software tampering (unlocking bootloader) voiding the warranty for a hardware related issue.
any luck OP?

[Q] Unique and Strange Manufacture Defect and Now I Need Help

Hello XDA-Community!
I own an Unlocked HTC One 32 GB bought from Let's Talk HTC online dealer and shipped to US.
I have been using information from these forums ever since I ditched my old iPhone 4 to get the new Shiny HTC One. I have had it for about two months, since the beginning of may and only a couple weeks back decided to try the fun part of Android and successfully unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev, flashed a custom recovery and rooted the phone. Since then, tried a few roms and been having a blast. The only problem I had was weak battery life, but I decide to live with it and stuck with it.
Today I discovered an overlooked or recently appeared defect with this phone, and I haven't heard of other people with the same issue, but part of the screen on the sides of the phone is lifted as if it's not mounted properly and was poorly glued ( don't know how it's manufactured ). So, I'm gonna try to do a warranty claim on it as I believe should be possible with this phone. I can't and don't want to sit this problem out as it's too much as hopefully you can see.
Sorry can't post the images directly yet:

Hopefully you can see in the links that it has risen and whenever I try to push it down it either springs back up with a clicking sound or stick for a second and then slowly rises back to that position. I think this is a bit unusual as I have not seen or heard of this complaint before.
The main Question I'm having is, how do I go from having S-off and being unlocked and rooted to completely stock, meaning S-on, stock recovery, stock rom etc.. The main reason I installed S-off is so that in case something like this happens I can reset even the "relocked" status back to "locked"in the bootloader as I understood S-off lets you achieve that. S-off was performed with Revone developer build without any issues encountered during process. I did not change/flash Hboot, CID, radios or anything to do with S-off other than removing the "Tempered" flag from the bootloader.
I have the Ruu ready and everything, but am puzzled by trying to figure out the process/order in which I should execute commands and what they shall be to achieve my goal of absolute factory stock.
If anybody has experience filing warranty claims, feel free to chip in with your experiences, troubles and processes.
Thanks to anyone that can help,
Alex

Usually, as long as the defect is undeniably a hardware issue and completely unrelated to any software tampering, HTC will still honour a warranty replacement even if you have unlocked and rooted.
Before going down the road of trying to hide this (HTC will have a record of the phone’s IMEI number on the HTCDev unlocked phones list anyway) try and send this info to HTC. You may find that are happy to repair/replace it for you under warranty as it would have happened anyway even if you had left it locked down.

Ok then, I see. I will try to do that, but would still want to know and I believe it would help other in the future to know. How can I go back to S-on and make sure it says "locked" in the bootloader instead of "relocked".

Just an info:
Getting the unlock.bin from HTC Dev doesnt mean that the phone is for sure getting unlocked. So, unless and until the phone is literally unlocked, they cannot void the warranty.
yeah....i too unlocked my xperia from sony....never had a prob with warranty....I used to flash back stock rom from pc using flashtool .... You can use a similar software for htc

Sending my phone back to HTC in the UK

Hi Guys
So, I'm going to send my phone back to HTC as it's only a little under 3 months old ... Can someone advise me on their experiences with sending back to HTC for repair in the UK? I'm on Hboot 1.54 so I'm unable to go S-Off and remove the tampered flag or change my bootloader to locked instead of relocked. I can wipe it all, flash stock ROM, install stock recovery and relock my bootloader but that's about it ... I assume it shouldn't be an issue, hopefully, as the device is faulty, not due to me unlocking the bootloader and flashing ROMs so my warranty should be ok
The guy on the phone when I booked it in said I should be fine as the issue has nothing to do with me unlocking the bootloader, but I was looking for any of your experiences in the UK
Cheers

The camera is faulty, it has lost focus unless you are doing a macro shot, all other shots are blurred. It also has what looks like a large area of screen bleed just at the top of the display (under the sensors and speaker grill).
hey

anyway im also on the new hboot with android 4.2.2 installed/ i restored from backup.
im gona send mine back with a flat battery and hope they dont charge it as it has had its bootloader relocked

Lol, I'm sure they'll be able to tell but hopefully it won't be an issue for us as they're faults not caused by unlocking the bootloader ... You say you're on your third, was your bootloader unlocked on the others you sent back?

No mate I was on the lower hboot with s-off. I relocked and romoved the re locked tag when sending it back. It came back updated.
Was in 2 minds wether to root again and unlock bootloader but I really didn't expect to have the fault again.

Ahhh, hopefully it won't be a problem, if they refuse I'll not be happy because the faults have nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader so it's irrelevant ... the guy I spoke to said if they didn't do it under warranty then they'd quote me or charge me £25 to return my phone to me. that's just bo**cks tbh. I paid £489 for the phone, I've had it less than 3 months and it's faulty so me unlocking the bootloader to remove the garbage they filled my phone with is just not on.
Fingers crossed we have no issues otherwise I'll be unsure what my options are, who to complain to or whatever ... I'd certainly never buy an HTC phone again if they don't sort it out under warranty, I could understand if something I'd done had caused the screen to bleed because it's not sealed correctly under the speaker grill, or if I'd somehow damaged the camera but that's not the case.
There must be some more people on here that's sent a phone back to HTC in the UK?
