No incomming calls while in 3G (UMTS) Network

Hi all together.
I'm interested if someone else can confirm this Problem. Situation:
- HTC Incedible S (brand new )
- Provider: Orange Switzerland
We suddenly recognized, that it's not possible to call this phone . The caller just get's a voice-info that the "The person you have called is temporary not available. Please try later". But the other way round works perfectly, so a call-out FROM the Incredible works fine and everytime.
I did some investigations and discovered the following:
- When forcing to 2G (=GSM) the Problem disappears.
- When forcing to 3G (=UMTS) the Problem reappears - but...
- ... when at the same time "mobile data connection" is active --> Problem away!
So when i'm at my home then the WiFi-Connection automatically get's active and the "mobile data connection" get's offline. And in this situation no calls reach the phone any more. If i manually disable WiFi (and then "mobile data" get's active again): Voila, everything is ok.
Reenabling WiFi - mobile data goes off: No more incomming calls.
Disabling both WiFi and mobile data: Also no incomming calls.
It seems that the incomming-call-signaling is handled in a way that requires an active mobile-data-connection. This seems to be a little bit odd.
Thanks for any ideas or just a confimation that i'm not alone.
Oli
P.S.: Of course i called the providers hotline. But they just said that there is no problem in the net. I should try it a few days later agein. Damn...
Hmm sounds strange....
The only tip I can give currently: goto settings - WiFi & networks - mobile data. And check the mobile data always on.
It's not a real solution, but should fix it for the time being.
But it is strange... Should not happen, maybe there are some problems with there network, so keep trying for the next few days. Otherwise contact them again.
ah! I believe this is something to do with the network provider. Do you live in a place where the network coverage is midiocre? I have the same problem with the iphone 4 (with the bumper )... sometimes even I am not able to make calls... so I have to switch off my 3G! it is indeed odd coz it interupts with the wifi! Did you try doing a master reset?

Thanks for this idea, but this option was already checked. This seems to be the default, so all my tests (as described in the first post) ran under this config (e.g. "mobile-data-always-on" is checked)
Hm. Still hope for any other ideas.

No, it seems to be a pretty good UMTS-coverage. And the mobile-data-download-speed with HSPDA is really fast (1-2 MBit/s). And when i go outdoor the signal-strength (as shown on the phones display) goes up to 4-of-4-bars (100% Signal). And still: incomming calls not working.
So i think the 'physical' Network-Infrastructure is not the problem. It's obviously a netwrok-logic-problem.
Thanks a lot for your help/ideas.
Ok, some new observations.
The problem of "no incomming calls while connected through UMTS" seems to be a local problem of the network-cell/Antenna around my home.
If i'm about 500m away then the problem seems to disappear..
Of course i did not test every Antenna of Orange Switzerland
Another point: I wrote that the problem just occures when i'm booked in in UMTS AND mobile-data is inactive. That's not completly true, as my newest investigations show: The problem is also present if UMTS-mobile-data is enabled.
But it dissapears for some seconds while and shortly after there is mobile-data-traffic.
Example:
- UMTS forced (no GSM), mobile-data enabled, WiFi disabled
- Phone 'idles' some minutes, no background data-transfer
- Here the Phone can not be called
- Now i go into Android-Market, search a 'Big-App' (10-20MB) and start download
- While the download is in Progress the Phone CAN be called
- A few seconds after the download completes, the Phone still CAN be called
- But later - let's say 60 seconds - the Problem re-appears.
So it seems that an active data-transfer is like a 'heartbeat' for the Orange-Cell and the Cell registers the phone as 'online'. But when data-idle the heartbeat is missin.
I will make some more calls to the Orange Hotline

did you solve it. i don't think thats the case certainly not for me as i'm having exactly that issue of no calls while in 3g mode but if i go back to a stock rom its fine. so the reception distance/signal is identical (i.e i haven't moved anywhere) and its fine on one rom and not another so it must be software (in my case)
So, hi together.
As the original poster i can now confirm that the described problem dissapeared.
We had nothing to do - so no change of any settings nor doing any software-updates. It's simply woking again.
So i'm no pretty sure that the problem was just a local one, in exactly out network-cell. No problem of the device.
Nevertheless: Thanks all for yout infos and tipps.

E symbol 'EDGE' GPRS - Vodafone mobile Connect doesnt show up till you reboot.

I dont use / dont give a great deal of GPRS - Edge Speed on my Galaxy Note unless i have few emails to be checked as the Social Networking and stuff like that are Blocked in my Office //
So anyways the Question is ... When i want to Connect to GPRS I click / TaP on the Power Button and select "Data Network mode" and it shows Activated and I see that 'E" symbol on the Notification Panel showing up ... but However Sometimes I dont see that getting showed up and wont be able to Connect to GPRS at all ... and the only way to resolve this is I got to reboot the Phone.
anyone else is facing this issue ? .... Mine is Vodafone Mobile connect Plan.
Ofcourse i plan to move to 3G.
Thanks
Sai
When you press power button
data network mode either activated/decactivated, you can toggle it by tapping it.
so you mean to say data network mode is not highlighted
OR
it not works even you tap it?

Hi again Ketan,
WHen I Tap on that Option it shows as Activated but i dont see the 'E' Symbol in the Notification area and hence wont be able to Connect to GPRS.
However I say this happens 2/5 times.
I am in 50-50 whether it phone issue ? or network issue ?
The same thing i also tried with "Settings - WireLess & Networks - Mobile Networks - Use Packet Data " ... most of the time it works but when i am in urgent damn it doesnt show up ... I had to reboot the Phone.
any idea where is the Issue ?
This weired thing i have seen on friend's device. Though it was galaxy fit, but i remember it was happen to perticular network, he had another sim card n thr was no issue on other. So i believe it should b network side. Try changing sim card, just buy new sim n try it.

Even i was using vodafone. I experienced the same problem. That is because of the network. The only thing you can do is whenever you lose the 3G or 2G data, you need to switch on to airplane mode and then switch it off. I used airplane mode toggle application from the market. Once you go into airplane mode and come back you will be getting the data network. But this failed to work few times. So i changed my network to bsnl and now i don't have any issues.
It looks to me Network issue .. I am also Using Vodafone.
Anyways lets see after i migrate to 3G whether this problem will be resolved or not.
Thanks
Sai
i was using 3G in vodafone. The problem was not solved thats why i changed to BSNL. So before changing the plan try it once.
This seems to be happening to me too. I have been using the Galaxy Note II with 3G on Vodafone without any issues for a month now, but today irrespective of me switching on the mobile data, the icon won't show up nor would internet work. I have restarted, toggled flight mode but no avail.

yes, I have seen this on my note, and I have used airtel 3g aim, reliance as well but still the same. only way is to reboot the phone. anything else I do will not restore data connection

[Q] Data not working.

Hi all, thanks a lot to read the thread and try to help.
The thing is that even I haven't install anything nor updating any room, I have a real problem lately.
If I use WiFi my HTC works fine, but when I disconnect WiFi, even a data logo appears (H or 3G) nothing that uses data works.
I cannot use Whatsapp, Facebook even open Google on a new tab.
The arrows keep moving on my status bar, but I downloaded a data monitor and says that nothing is moving in data usage.
What can I do before I lose WiFi?
I have restored the mobile phone, a complete wipe, i'll write you soon.
Call your operator because it seems to be
A: a provider sided problem
B: a signal problem
C: hardware/software problem
If c: try to get a replacement.

Same problem, except it is intermittent. Have always had LTE service in my apartment until a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes the mobile data works, sometimes it doesn't. Full bars, shows data icon, but can NEVER download MMS, even when mobile data is working.
Any help other than call the provider?

Losing mobile data connection

Hi everyone, for some reason my Z3 compact keeps losing it's mobile data connection. Restarting the phone doesn't bring it back on and the only way I can find to get connection again is to change preferred network type from 4g to 3g then back again but as soon as I use a wifi connection again I get the same problem. I'm running the official Sony concept for M rom. thanks for any help you can give me.
in developer options there is a setting for "Cellular data always active", it might help, but the root cause is just that cell signal is too poor in your home area.
hope this helps.

Temporary dialer disconnection when 4G is on

Good day, guys. I have a problem. After update to 8.1 I have an issue with recieving calls, when some people call me and 4G mode is on (4G network type is enabled in mobile network settings) sometimes they can not dial to me, it seems like my phone is turned off and there is no signal. If I change mobile network mode to 3G, there is no problems. Also when people can't call me, I can make calls to them and there is no problems with connetion and mobile data. (connection level is full).
It looks like there is some energy saving mode of radioband module and It doens't work properly.
So I've changed SIM-card and changed the mobile operator to another, the problem still exists.
In the safety mode, the problem still exists too.
Also factory reset from recovery menu (wipe data) didn't help.
Is there any fix of this problem? I can't redownload the firmware with OST because of error. Thank you a lot.
I have similar problem, did you find out how to solve it?
