Having this problem:
When device is connected to any PC, nothing is detected at either end. Nothing happens (except power to the phone).
Tried switching between activesync and disc drive modes, with or without advanced network functionality, but the problem is prior to that.
I have to say these WM devices are pretty unreliable, I've had USB problems on more than one of them, compared with none on any other usb device.
Grateful for any help.
when you say you change modes, do you mean that you change it in the settings or when you connect the USB a screen pops up?
I am having the same issue. My phone is basically useless, I don't have warranty to send it back to HTC either.
Many people are having issues with connecting with Windows 7. I think there are solutions, but most of those people don't post replies when they solve their problems...
I have been able to connect to Windows XP, then suddenly one day it stopped for no apparent reason. So I don't think the OS is the problem in this case.
how about your guys try to checke the windows firewall setting first?
on the exception list, make sure all related activesync task are selected.
then try again.. hope that help
Tried that - in fact, turned off my firewall entirely - still no luck.
Device connects, and comes up as an "unknown device". Nothing else in Windows 7 sees it - not WMDC, or File Explorer, or anything.
This is really disappointing - how can a Windows Mobile device not work at all with a Windows OS?
i also have my firewall turned off, even worse thing is that the computer doesn't even recognize that a device has been plugged.
Same here, shaks 4.3 ...
I can't believe that Windows has this device listed as compatible with Windows 7. It isn't working, period.
mine stopped connecting to vista one day but would charge. I went an got another usb to mini usb cord at the PX and plugged it in and it now connects with my laptop and my mac. replace your cord before you start hard reseting.

I've tried several cords... but thanks for the advice.
i contacted HTC and asked them how much for repair w/o warranty, this is their response:
We apologize for any issues you are experiencing with your device and would be happy to assist. While warranty coverage would depend on a diagnosis by one of our certified technicians, based on the problems symptoms you have provided, costs for repairs could range from approximately $373.00 to $428.00. Please contact Customer Care at 1-888-617-1113 for service options and to set up an RMA for repair if desired.
this is hilarious, fking HTC ppl make sh*t w/ no technical support and charge ridiculous for repairs. i dont know what they thinking
had the same problem...tried everything to fix. i am with Verizon. Went to my Verizon store. They called in for me which resulted in Verizon sending my a replacement (refurb) which ironically(?) turned out to have a different issue. Back to store...another call...sent me a brand new diamond. everything ok so far. don't deal with htc....go to your carrier.
I've done a hard reset on my diamond, but the usb problem remains. Now I'm thinking it's a mechanical problem. I'll try and clean out the hole somehow and see if that helps.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit and the latest Windows Mobile device Centre with the Windows Firewall on and I have no problems connecting my HTC HD and Diamond.
To all of you who still struggle on UBS connection.
Here's my solution based on reading forums for almost two weeks and trying hundreds of settings. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate.
First you have to set regional settings on both PC and device on English.
1. Make suse you select ONLY ActiveSync under Settings/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC/ NO OTHER SELLECTIONS.
2. Tick "When the device is turned on, do not ...." under Settings/System/Power ( later, when establish connection for couple times you can uncheck it)
3. If Using NOD 32 disable Treat Sence and Disable detection of Potentionaly dangerous programs ( if using other antivirus disable similar options - they block connections they think are dangerous)
4. On your PC Uninstall ALL USB controlers and Hubs.
5. On Your device on home screen check and stop all programs running.
6. Turn OFF PC.
7. Connect USB cable to PC USB port and to phone.
8. Turn on PC and wait untill Windows instals all the usb stuff. If everything is OK Windows should recognize and install HTC PPC .... The WMDC or ActiveSync should start automatically. IF not start it manually and disconnect and connect usb cable on ppc. Wait untill it connects and HAVE FUN !!!
First couple of times you should be carefull not to move the phone or cable so you wont lose connection.
Hope this helps others, since I managed to get it work for myself.
Happy New Year to all of You!
will try this tomorrow,
btw, what's NOD32 and WMDC?
thanks for the post
OS -> Windows 7
PPC-> Mobile 6.1
Unchecked the "Enable advanced network functionality" box.
Until that it would connect just under Disk Drive option, Now it runs just fine with active sync too. Thank you
It has just stop working when a plug in my usb to my pc i do not get "Turn on USB storage" on my phone. No usb icon also. The computer does not recognize the phone.
I have try different cables, computers and OS. Also did a factory resat and putt on debuging mode on and off. Also multiple restarts with no luck. I use stock rom.
Are my phone broken?
It's probably the usb ports though you have tried with other computers ;/
or the micro-usb port of your device

I had the same problem and I believe it is a phone issue. I tried reinstalling drivers, different USB ports on different machines, factory resets, different cables etc. At times when plugged in the phone would suddenly wake up and acknowledge the USB connection while at others it just started charging when plugged in to USB.
What confirms that this is a phone problem rather than a PC problem is that when I connect it to my office workstation that runs on Sun Solaris, it behaves pretty much the same, acknowledging the connection randomly. My HTC Magic on the other hand always connected to both home PCs and office workstation without any issues every time.
Finally I have returned my handset and asked for a replacement.

Good luck. It's a pity though as otherwise my handset worked perfectly with no reboots lags etc. I hope the replacement comes in soon and is bug free too.
I have the same issue with my macbook. Since yesterday my o2x isn't recognized by my mac.
I know it is not the usb cable, or the (micro)usb port, because when i plug the phone in at night my alarm clock on the o2x fires up (as it should).
So a connection is made, it just doesn't show "turn on usb storage" on my o2x. And i cannot understand why.
I am on the 0606 baseband, with the new FR19 ROM from Paul O'brien's Modaco (which is excellent btw).
If anyone has a solution, please let me kno
I have the same problem with my phone under modaco fr19, baseband + ril 606.
My pc is under windows vista and the drivers are installed correctly.

Update:
I received a replacement handset which was V10D 20110405 out of the box. No issues with USB connection.
Just out of interest, did any of you leave the phone connected to USB for a long time before it started failing? I used to leave it charging via USB all day at work so just wondering if there is a connection...
Update:
I earlier stated that my O2X wouldn't connect to my macbook. Yesterday I connected the O2X while on the Windows Vista partition of my mac, and it connected without any problem. After that, rebooted to Mac OSX partition, and no problem there. So I am a bit puzzeled about why, but it seems to work again.
In reaction to mparack's question, i sometimes let it load overnight via usb cable. But not a lot. I do not think that was the cause. I thought it was caused by flashing the 0606 baseband, but now I do not think that was the culprit.
Got back my phone from Telia on Wednesday. Everything worked fine. And I upgraded the phone using the LG update (Basbandversion: 1035.21_20110622) LGE version LGP990-V10c). After that the same problem! It feels like it's a bug in the software. Then they have changed the mainborad and it sounds unlikely that the new one is defective to.Goning back to Telia on Monday if they know about a bug or if you can get a new phone.
Those of you who have had the same problem what version do you have? Can I downgrade phone in anyway?
Hello everyone. So I have a little problem over here, not even sure if it's a little one. So like 2 months back I decided to dissasemble my htc in order to change the camera as the previous one had purple tint and change my housing from white to red. I have done everything right now, I've been waiting for all those parts for these two months, replaced my camera, housing, UI board as I destroyed the camera socket of the old one and everything works pretty much, still got an issue with buzzing speaker even though it's a new one, but I'll find a way out. What bothering me now is that I cannot get my HTC recognized by PC. I'm not sure how I fixed my USB problems earlier, I had a lot of them until I found some drivers or something. So now I experience this problem that when I connect my HTC to the front socket it clearly doesn't make any signs of being recognized, but it still charges. When I connect it to one of the back sockets, PC makes a 'ding' sound that a USB device is connected. Although I cannot see any devices on my PC. I tried fastboot, PC can't find the device either, tired ADB in recovery, but it's loading forever, not sure if it should be that way. So after this long journey, USB is the only problem I'm facing. Could it be drivers or something else? As the phone charges whenever I connect it to a power source, it charges. One thing I noticed that no matter where I connect it, USB or wall socket it always says 'IF HTC Sync Manager installer doesn't automatically start, run it from CD-ROM drive on your PC' along with slow charge warning. Please help me.
Windows 8, or 7? Did the USB connection work perfectly before the disassembly?

It's W7. I can't remember but I remember I had problems getting those drivers and all to work.
Probably not the issue in your case, but two of my friends had USB connectivity errors on W7 64bit SP1 - both HTC Ones.
The issues were malwares (iLivid & others) - after running malwarebytes and removing all the stuff (more than 1000 objects/scan) USB connectivity started working again.
Might worth a shot. Oh, and both had Antivirus (Nod32) running
Thanks, I'll try this. I got iLivid and some other bull**** auto installed on my pc.
oh my god, removed ilivid and other bull**** malwares and not it's working again, never thought of this, thanks!
Hi,
I connected my note 5 to my laptop today, and surprise surprise, it is no longer recognized by the PC (though it charges). It used to be fine, I don't know what changed!
I tried different cables, different USB ports and different laptops
I tried to plug it in normal mode, safe mode, recovery mode and download mode
I tried switching USB debugging on/off
I tried the *#0808# menu, and I tried MTP+ADB and CP options
I uninstalled drivers from the PC and installed the latest from the samsung website
I tried both kies and smart switch
nothing worked! I am not doing a factory reset because I have seen many people do it for other devices and none of them solved it this way! I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update, maybe it will fix this annoying issue. Meanwhile do you have any other ideas guys?

hi,
you don't say what Laptop o/s you using on laptop.?
Windows 10, Windows 8.1 Windows 8 or Windows 7...... or Apple o/s.?
Briefly my take is on this is, most probably the laptop and not phone.?
(Yes, i might be wrong of course.)
My reason is, i have Windows 10 laptop
and sometimes / a few time, ) my
laptop does not recognize my Note5
Yes, , it charges phone (just like yours) but does not recognize phone.!
I then have to re install drivers for phone I use Smart Switch to re install drivers.
Then it works ok for a while etc..
Why don't you test phone on someone else's pc or laptop to make sure.?
Overall my Note5 is mostly recognized by laptop
Good luck

As I have already mentioned, I did try another laptop. Mine is windows 8.1 x64 and my brother's windows 10 x64. I tried re installing the drivers from smart switch but to no avail.
Any other ideas?

hi ,
why i still think its laptop /pc drivers related.
(But yes ,i might be completely wrong ..?)
i have laptop win 10 x64 also.
The issue is of laptop, not always recognizing a device /similar as yours ,but charging device .
Other devices, when trying to connect to laptop (,not just my Note5 ),( from time to time) eg Note 2,..3 ..4 , USB flashstick ..my Polar M400 running watch etc .Device is not recognized but charging .
So for me,
its just not Note 5 but other devices also (.from time to time) .
My "take " on this issue is that it points between drivers (pc ,laptop) //// relevant devices eg Note 5 ..etc . and not just the firmware issue of Note 5 ,??
but yes, as stated i might be wrong .
good luck
Post note ,
i have to add reinstalling drivers "sometimes " help " ,
but it happens again, later. ( not recognizing device )
So i am pointing fingers, at Windows o/s + the "company/maker " of laptop ..pc and + devices .The compatibility between all three above ,combined and yes i had similar issues ( from time to time with Win 8 ../Win 8.1 etc ).
Yet, i have also found that certain of my devices
that work nearly 100% of time on my laptop !,
which indicates to me, the compatibility of devices between device /laptop ,is very good ..??
I have a note 2 and it works every time when I plug it to either pc. My laptop is lenovo with all the latest drivers. Hopefully, marshmallow will address this issue because otherwise, this means that I can't root my device.

Pull down notification menu while phone is plugged in and there should be a option for changing from charge mode to mtp and such. Just pull down notification and tap on the biodiversity that's lasted.

hi ,
strange ,
just for the record i also have a Lenovo Flex 2 laptop ( x64 ) Win 10 .!!!
i have rooted all my devices on Lenovo laptop ( Note 2, Note 3 , Note 4 and my Note 8.0 tablet etc )
Yet , i am at moment not interested in rooting my Note5 ( i have it already a couple of months )
I am happy keeping myself busy with Theme store ,tweaks/beta apps and lately with the interesting Lockmaster app( Play store ) for lockscreen ... etc .
If i get the root "urge " i pick up my other rooted devices and use them .or /update or/ install root only tweaks/apps etc. for my rooted devices .!!
i hope Marshmallow fixes your issues .!!
good luck

Edit: Never mind that. I see what you mean. That's odd it's not there for you. It definitely sounds like a PC issue. You can try completely removing all Samsung drivers and start over. Just using the Uninstaller will not cut it though. You'll have to do a system level cleaning of all samsung drivers.

The issue is not with your device. It's because of Windows. Is there another computer that you can use to connect your device to that you have never connected to before? Also make sure that you are using either the cable that came with your device, or at least a good quality cable. I've had that issue occur in the past because I was using a cheap cable.

I did plug it in my brother's laptop but no dice. I tried the OEM cable and an Asus cable on USB 2 and 3 ports, it did not work on either pc. How can I completely uninstall samsung drivers?
For users having the same issue, I found a solution (which also fixes all charging issues by the way).
If you look at the charging port, you will see a "tongue" where the pins connect. We all know that fast charging requires 5 pins not 4. The OEM cable comes with 5 as you all know. However, I found the OEM cable to be very fragile and not reliable, one pin tends to get bent without much pressure. This leads to the "tongue" going down somehow. The fix is to get the "tongue" up a bit, use a toothpick or something that does not conduct power. As for the cable, I suggest you use an Asus cable (I have 3 of those, 2 from my nexus 7s and 1 from my Zenwatch). Asus cables come with 5 pins and they are sturdier than Samsung's and they are a bit longer as well. Now the phone charges properly, fast charging and all and the computer recognizes it once again.
Hope this helps you too

I'm having this same problem these same problems. Other then I'm not able to get it to recognize even after doing everything that was said to do in this thread.
I feel like I'm missing a file? I was messing with them and just may think that could be my problem. is there anything else that has not been said in this thread I could do to fix this problem? When connected to my computer it recognize it as a charger. I can't access my files from my computer to my phone.
any help would be very helpful! Thanks!
I'm having the exact same problem but now I tried to use Flashify to go back to original recovery instead of TWRP & now by recovery or boot IMG is screwed so it wont even boot to recovery..
It boots only to download mode & is not recognized by any PC we have, with every cable I've tried.. uhhgggggg
I was having the same issue. Here is what solved it for me:
• Disconnect the usb cable.
• Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound
o Go down to device / hardware and devices – click on that
o Follow instructions to correct issues. This found I needed a bus device driver update.
o Let it update and once done go out.
• On PC - Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings - go down until you get to the part that says "All Networks" ...expand the list by clicking on the arrow to the right. In this area you will see "Media Streaming" There should be an area highlighted in blue that says "Choose media streaming options" click on that. Make sure you "allow all" . Once that is done, click "ok" at the bottom. Plug your device into the usb and it should be recognized. Seems a recent Windows update has that filter off.
• Now, restart your computer.
• Use original usb cord that came with phone! Plug in phone then plug in usb to computer.
• It should recognize your device now.
I now have to restart computer every time I want to connect my device but it works.
Hi I am having that same problem with my note 4. It doesn't seem to be a pc problem as no pc at all none Nada recognizes the phone. Windows 7 to Windows 10. None. Used 2 workmates of mine who also have note 4s on my laptop and all the laptops i used i used their phine on itand they worked so blaming the pc seems to be out of the equation..your solution and all those settings have been untouched as it has all devices allowed ..... tried cleaning the connectors and also different oem cables to no avail ..The only thing I have not done is change the logic board
Hi I hope somebody can help me. I am having exactly the same issue. though I don't think its PC or Laptop problem. I have two Note 5 the other one is working just fine, while the other Note 5 that was just charging was connected I noticed that running *#0808# I can select AP and CP but MTP+ADP was not selected and if I try selecting the radio button I will be able to but after pressing Ok or Reboot it back to no selection at all. Which I observe on my other Note 5 that was working its always selected every time I run *#0808#.
One more thing noticed is that on the Note 5 that was not working I boot it download (ODIN) mode and connect back to USB of my PC and Laptop, I hear a sound (the typical sound in windows once you connect any USB device) though I cannot access it I am positive that my USB port on both device are in good condition and since it was detected in windows through ODIN boot mode I was under the impression that its a phone software/firmware related. Can somebody help me on this one? thanks
Mine arrived yesterday, so I have not had much time to "play". But here are my first impressions and the issues I have found.
First impressions (coming from an LG G3).
It is super fast. I really like that.
The phone signal strenght seems better. So, either they "lie" on the display or the antenna is better.
No bloat - nice.
I got the 128Gb one. Loads of free memory and storage. I like that.
Screen is OK.
It came with dual sim slots which I didn't know - I can now use both sims in one phone.
Now, issues:
It won't connect to my PC. I get a "USB device not recognised" error. Spent ages chatting with their techie and I need to put it into USB debug mode and the load an ADB driver which they could not provide. How STUPID is that.
The capacitive button lights are so dim as to be unusable and only come on as you press on the spot. What is the point of that?
Bluetooth won't connect to my headset (MPows) unless I put it into APTX mode.
Bluetooth connects to my car for phone, but while it tries to play audio, there is nothing there. I have loaded some music and it plays OK using VLC. Maybe the music is in the wrong place but I have no idea how to check.
If anyone has any idea on my first issue, I would be grateful for some help.

I had this issue, it would appear to fairly common. What worked for me was the following.
1) Disconnect your phone and restart windows. (Restarting windows was necessary for me as attempting to connect the phone and it failing caused something that was only cleared by a reboot).
2) Enable developer options and on the phone and select USB debugging mode.
3) While you are in developer change Select USB Configuration to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
4) Check step 3) actually stuck. It takes a few goes for me and others for some reason.
5) Connect it to your PC
6) Hopefully it will mount as a drive called Oneplus Drivers or something similar (can't remember the exact name). In this driver is a setup up for the USB driver installation. Run it as admin and install.
7) If that all worked you should now have the mounted drive described above and your Oneplus 5 as a separate mounted MTP device in explorer which you can access the internal storage from.
For me, I can't disconnect and reconnect without rebooting windows and repeating steps 3,4 & 5 above. There is clearly either a bug in Oxygen or a driver issue that needs resolving but hopefully this will work for now. For info, with the phone connected my PC won't shut down. It does boot to the login screen but won't actually show the login prompts! Weird.
Thnks Chris. At the moment, I can't get MTP mode to "Stick". I'll keep trying. I may have also found some ADB drivers (on my laptop which is not near me at the moment).

One more issue - playing music over bluetooth, it occasionally "stutters" and I hear what appears to be a very small gap in the music - about 1/10th second - but noticeable. Has anyone seen (heard) this?

I have had this with a previous phone, not this one. What does the catlog say during the stutter? Mine showed errors regarding the Bluetooth communication, does yours do that? This can help you find out if it's software or hardware.
My capacitive buttons seem dimm as well, haven't really noticed that before..
AT,
What is the catlog? Where do I find that?

Thnks Chris. At the moment, I can't get MTP mode to "Stick". I'll keep trying. I may have also found some ADB drivers (on my laptop which is not near me at the moment).

Alan,
If you try and set MTP mode a few times it will stick. However, the text under Select USB Configuration will still say "Charging" unless you leave the Developer options menu and go back in again. Then it should say "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)".
Chris,
You are a star. That worked and I can now see my internal storage.
Thank you
I just have to find out why my 2016 BMW will not see the music over bluetooth now (my old LG G3 worked fine)

Haven't tried to mount to PC yet. Surprising it isn't like the oneplus 3 where it mounts a separate drive on the PC with the drivers?

The only thing I can think to do is delete the phone from the car's memory entirely. Delete the connection from the phone entirely, and start all over. You may have done that, but on my 2013 Veloster I have had times where I needed to just start over completely. Having said that, no problems out of the box for me so far with the OP5 in my car, bluetooth gym headphones, or either bluetooth speaker I use. It's been very easy.
I tried that - still the same. The attached picture shows what I get.
This is my last major issue with this phone.....
Alan
Onother issue i just found out...
Maybe someone else found a fix, but i didnt....
With my OP2 i always conncted e Little USB adaptor with a micro sdcard in it to the phone to Transfer Music or any other files to or from the phone. When i connected it to the phone it imidiatly was recognized and in the filemanager one more Folder was created to manage These files.
But on my OP5 nothing happens....... can someone help?
Edit: last Oxygen Update, OTG is on, USB Debugging is on

Yeah, I think TechTablets on Youtube also mentioned USB-on-the-go not working on his OnePlus 5.

Would be sad without that feature because always connecting to my PC wouldnt be such comfortable for filetransfer....
Hope that the developer from Oneplus will fix it in future
Had an issue with the APN for T-Mobile in the US. I had data and could make VOLTE calls etc but email through TypeApp or Blue mail would not sync and various other programs had issues (connection errors), over wireless at the house everything was fine. I added the APN suggested by T-mobile haven't had an issue since. All I changed was the APN protocol to IPv6/IPv4 (was just IPv6) and removed hipri and supl from the APN type.
Everything works as it should.
hey I want to ask a question
is the camera on the op5 worse than the note 5 ?
In the advanced settings I noticed a Bluetooth codec option which might help.
I haven't tested it on the car yet. mines a 17 VW so will test it
I've tried changing the codec - no difference.
another annoiing issue....it changes network from O2/4G LTE to EPlus 3G. So i disabled automatic network and switched manual to O2 again. But the same....it really s...ks, because most time it runs with Edge only

Only issue I have at the moment is too sensitive autorotation of the screen. Even though the rotation happens very fast, I would prefer it not turning in the first place if phone is rotated only few degrees. I wish there was a way to adjust the angle when to rotate the screen.
