Hi,
I connected my note 5 to my laptop today, and surprise surprise, it is no longer recognized by the PC (though it charges). It used to be fine, I don't know what changed!
I tried different cables, different USB ports and different laptops
I tried to plug it in normal mode, safe mode, recovery mode and download mode
I tried switching USB debugging on/off
I tried the *#0808# menu, and I tried MTP+ADB and CP options
I uninstalled drivers from the PC and installed the latest from the samsung website
I tried both kies and smart switch
nothing worked! I am not doing a factory reset because I have seen many people do it for other devices and none of them solved it this way! I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update, maybe it will fix this annoying issue. Meanwhile do you have any other ideas guys?

hi,
you don't say what Laptop o/s you using on laptop.?
Windows 10, Windows 8.1 Windows 8 or Windows 7...... or Apple o/s.?
Briefly my take is on this is, most probably the laptop and not phone.?
(Yes, i might be wrong of course.)
My reason is, i have Windows 10 laptop
and sometimes / a few time, ) my
laptop does not recognize my Note5
Yes, , it charges phone (just like yours) but does not recognize phone.!
I then have to re install drivers for phone I use Smart Switch to re install drivers.
Then it works ok for a while etc..
Why don't you test phone on someone else's pc or laptop to make sure.?
Overall my Note5 is mostly recognized by laptop
Good luck

Thank you for the reply.
As I have already mentioned, I did try another laptop. Mine is windows 8.1 x64 and my brother's windows 10 x64. I tried re installing the drivers from smart switch but to no avail.
Any other ideas?

hi ,
why i still think its laptop /pc drivers related.
(But yes ,i might be completely wrong ..?)
i have laptop win 10 x64 also.
The issue is of laptop, not always recognizing a device /similar as yours ,but charging device .
Other devices, when trying to connect to laptop (,not just my Note5 ),( from time to time) eg Note 2,..3 ..4 , USB flashstick ..my Polar M400 running watch etc .Device is not recognized but charging .
So for me,
its just not Note 5 but other devices also (.from time to time) .
My "take " on this issue is that it points between drivers (pc ,laptop) //// relevant devices eg Note 5 ..etc . and not just the firmware issue of Note 5 ,??
but yes, as stated i might be wrong .
good luck
Post note ,
i have to add reinstalling drivers "sometimes " help " ,
but it happens again, later. ( not recognizing device )
So i am pointing fingers, at Windows o/s + the "company/maker " of laptop ..pc and + devices .The compatibility between all three above ,combined and yes i had similar issues ( from time to time with Win 8 ../Win 8.1 etc ).
Yet, i have also found that certain of my devices
that work nearly 100% of time on my laptop !,
which indicates to me, the compatibility of devices between device /laptop ,is very good ..??
I have a note 2 and it works every time when I plug it to either pc. My laptop is lenovo with all the latest drivers. Hopefully, marshmallow will address this issue because otherwise, this means that I can't root my device.

Pull down notification menu while phone is plugged in and there should be a option for changing from charge mode to mtp and such. Just pull down notification and tap on the biodiversity that's lasted.

hi ,
strange ,
just for the record i also have a Lenovo Flex 2 laptop ( x64 ) Win 10 .!!!
i have rooted all my devices on Lenovo laptop ( Note 2, Note 3 , Note 4 and my Note 8.0 tablet etc )
Yet , i am at moment not interested in rooting my Note5 ( i have it already a couple of months )
I am happy keeping myself busy with Theme store ,tweaks/beta apps and lately with the interesting Lockmaster app( Play store ) for lockscreen ... etc .
If i get the root "urge " i pick up my other rooted devices and use them .or /update or/ install root only tweaks/apps etc. for my rooted devices .!!
i hope Marshmallow fixes your issues .!!
good luck

Edit: Never mind that. I see what you mean. That's odd it's not there for you. It definitely sounds like a PC issue. You can try completely removing all Samsung drivers and start over. Just using the Uninstaller will not cut it though. You'll have to do a system level cleaning of all samsung drivers.

The issue is not with your device. It's because of Windows. Is there another computer that you can use to connect your device to that you have never connected to before? Also make sure that you are using either the cable that came with your device, or at least a good quality cable. I've had that issue occur in the past because I was using a cheap cable.

I did plug it in my brother's laptop but no dice. I tried the OEM cable and an Asus cable on USB 2 and 3 ports, it did not work on either pc. How can I completely uninstall samsung drivers?
For users having the same issue, I found a solution (which also fixes all charging issues by the way).
If you look at the charging port, you will see a "tongue" where the pins connect. We all know that fast charging requires 5 pins not 4. The OEM cable comes with 5 as you all know. However, I found the OEM cable to be very fragile and not reliable, one pin tends to get bent without much pressure. This leads to the "tongue" going down somehow. The fix is to get the "tongue" up a bit, use a toothpick or something that does not conduct power. As for the cable, I suggest you use an Asus cable (I have 3 of those, 2 from my nexus 7s and 1 from my Zenwatch). Asus cables come with 5 pins and they are sturdier than Samsung's and they are a bit longer as well. Now the phone charges properly, fast charging and all and the computer recognizes it once again.
Hope this helps you too

I'm having this same problem these same problems. Other then I'm not able to get it to recognize even after doing everything that was said to do in this thread.
I feel like I'm missing a file? I was messing with them and just may think that could be my problem. is there anything else that has not been said in this thread I could do to fix this problem? When connected to my computer it recognize it as a charger. I can't access my files from my computer to my phone.
any help would be very helpful! Thanks!
I'm having the exact same problem but now I tried to use Flashify to go back to original recovery instead of TWRP & now by recovery or boot IMG is screwed so it wont even boot to recovery..
It boots only to download mode & is not recognized by any PC we have, with every cable I've tried.. uhhgggggg
I was having the same issue. Here is what solved it for me:
• Disconnect the usb cable.
• Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound
o Go down to device / hardware and devices – click on that
o Follow instructions to correct issues. This found I needed a bus device driver update.
o Let it update and once done go out.
• On PC - Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings - go down until you get to the part that says "All Networks" ...expand the list by clicking on the arrow to the right. In this area you will see "Media Streaming" There should be an area highlighted in blue that says "Choose media streaming options" click on that. Make sure you "allow all" . Once that is done, click "ok" at the bottom. Plug your device into the usb and it should be recognized. Seems a recent Windows update has that filter off.
• Now, restart your computer.
• Use original usb cord that came with phone! Plug in phone then plug in usb to computer.
• It should recognize your device now.
I now have to restart computer every time I want to connect my device but it works.
Hi I am having that same problem with my note 4. It doesn't seem to be a pc problem as no pc at all none Nada recognizes the phone. Windows 7 to Windows 10. None. Used 2 workmates of mine who also have note 4s on my laptop and all the laptops i used i used their phine on itand they worked so blaming the pc seems to be out of the equation..your solution and all those settings have been untouched as it has all devices allowed ..... tried cleaning the connectors and also different oem cables to no avail ..The only thing I have not done is change the logic board
Hi I hope somebody can help me. I am having exactly the same issue. though I don't think its PC or Laptop problem. I have two Note 5 the other one is working just fine, while the other Note 5 that was just charging was connected I noticed that running *#0808# I can select AP and CP but MTP+ADP was not selected and if I try selecting the radio button I will be able to but after pressing Ok or Reboot it back to no selection at all. Which I observe on my other Note 5 that was working its always selected every time I run *#0808#.
One more thing noticed is that on the Note 5 that was not working I boot it download (ODIN) mode and connect back to USB of my PC and Laptop, I hear a sound (the typical sound in windows once you connect any USB device) though I cannot access it I am positive that my USB port on both device are in good condition and since it was detected in windows through ODIN boot mode I was under the impression that its a phone software/firmware related. Can somebody help me on this one? thanks

Current Scenario:
Phone is stuck at AT&T screen. Can get to download mode. XP cannot installing drivers.
Questions:
Has anyone encountered anything like this? I know some people report issue with some data cables not being able to connect. But I am surprised I can get to download mode with it so am questioning if the cable could be the issue. Could it be a bad port? Since my original cable has gone bad could it have messed up my port? I saw a posts about this but no follow up.
Notes:
Cognition 2.3b6
USB Drivers from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989) I've obviously have been able to connect prior to these issues to upgrade my ROM.
Kies and Kies Mini were previously installed. I since deleted since having these issues.
Uninstalled iTunes as suggested in other posts.
History:
My phone is stuck at the AT&T boot screen. Using my original Samsung cable I could not get my phone into download mode. So I went out and made the jig to get it into download mode. This worked but win XP won't recognize the phone once I put my original cable in. I realized that my original cable might be internally frayed, so I went out and bought a generic USB cable. Now I can get my phone into download mode (without using the jig) which shows that my original cable has been damaged at some point. This would also explain that when my phone is off and I plugged it in using the old cable the phone would turn on.
Anyway, using this new generic cable, XP/ODIN won't recognize my phone. When trying to put it in download mode (two button/insert cable/no SIM/no SD), I see XP popup: Found New Hardware, USB device, Samsung USB Composite Device, USB device, Samsung USB Composite Device, then get the Found New Hardware Wizard with message Cannot Install the Hardware, problem installing this hardware: USB Device.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and not sure if it matters but I cannot get into recover mode either. Cannot get past AT&T boot screen.
Um... make sure you remove all traces of the Kies stuff.
Re-install USB drivers over the top of the existing ones.
I might suggest buying a "sumsung" cable from an AT&T dealer.
AND - make sure your using the USB port that is on your mobo - apparently it makes a difference.
I had my phone in a "bricked" state and had to re-install drivers on my Win7 box. it found the phone and recognized it enough for ODIN to start up.
Also.... to find out if the phone is being recognized - I would recommend d/l'ing the Android SDK and doing the ADB command - adb devices and see what pops up.
Heh - last thing.. please say you had the phone in "USB Debugging" mode before things went south?
Here's a link to a thread containing another variant of the Captivate USB Drivers:
http://androidforums.com/captivate-.../123644-captivate-usb-drivers-links-here.html
I can't remember which I used, but if the above suggestions don't work for you, it won't hurt to try these!
And for what it's worth, I don't believe the problem to be within the USB cable. I use everything EXCEPT the Samsung USB cable. Anything from Monoprice.com cables, to my old Blackberry cable... A MicroUSB cable is just that...generic or not. As long as it's a 5 pin cable, you should be good.

Upgraded to Cog v2.3b6 before things went south. I normally keep USB Debugging mode as defaulted. Wondering if the update would have caused it to be unchecked. I think I checked that once and rarely make changes. Either way, are you suggesting that if that option is not set that I am pretty much hosed?
@norcal einstein: I will have to try your suggestion from a new machine. My work just locked (McAfee) our machines due to virus going around.
Hi there ... I've run into this similar problem before.. The link you posted's instructions:
"plug usb then open odin"
NO!!!!
#1 odin oneclick must be open before you connect your phone. (and i didnt see in previous posts that you did this?)
Here's the rest....
From a soft-bricked state the Samsung I897 displays a "gadget" screen involving
icons of a phone + exclamation + computer. It is still possible to boot into download mode from this point (which is before the att logo) there your phone can.
Apparently you've been able to get into download mode .
When my phone was soft-bricked and I finally figured out how to put it in download mode I got the "gadget serial device driver not found" bs. I had already opened odin-oneclick and it said "added". So I tried and it worked.
There is no better source for drivers than the manufacturer. So i suggest using those drivers instead. Also the usb port on a captivate IS a generic usb plug.... it's just offset to the side a little bit to add STYLE.
Thanks to everyone that replied. I just want to provide a my resolution for others that might be search for similar issues.
My Captivate is now back up and running. Loaded with Cog2.3b6.
The generic cable proved not to be the issue. I know some people reported having issues with cables but I believe as long as the cable is labeled to be a sync or data cable you should be fine. Avoid the charger cables as it will be just that - a charger cable only.
The jig worked like a charm to get to download mode. Just connect the two leads (4 and 5; closest to the center of the phone) using 301k resistors worked. I used 3x100k and 1x1k. Although, I later learned that my OEM cable went bad on me and just getting a new cable I can get into download mode fine. If some of you are having issues might want to consider keeping a extra cable just to rule out cable issues before trying out the jig. The jig IS very easy to do but finding a micro-b USB plug or adapter that gives easy access to the 4 and 5 leads might be hard.
Out of ideas what was wrong (being stuck at AT&T boot screen, being able to get to download mode, my laptop not being able to detect my phone) I borrowed a laptop running Vista. This worked! Vista and ODIN detected my phone and I was able to get back to stock.
So still not sure what's wrong with MY laptop. Hoping to get it resolved by the time they get the AT&T Froyo update out. But I am very much guessing our tech department tightening up McAfee restrictions (like being able to download exe(cutables) might be the culprit. I will have them remove the restrictions so I can re-install the USB drivers and see if that works.
If you are looking for instructions for how to get download / ODIN working, all the instructions from all the many threads work. I will not repeat those instructions here. But a couple notes: I didn't find any difference with leaving SIM card in or out. Might be best to just leave it out. I've tried both inserting cable last and inserting battery last. Both ways works. So if you can't get one way working chances are you probably won't be able to get it working the other way either. I personally use the battery first, both volume buttons then cable. Once I had to wait 10 mins before getting it to work. That was probably once in about 10 times I've done download mode.
And BIKERBOY8989 is correct, if you can get to the AT&T boot screen chances are you SHOULD be able to get into download mode. Might want to check cables and/or try on another machine. As I mentioned already.
Good luck!!!
Hello forum !
i have used a couple of hours now trying to find a solution to my problem both here on the site but also on the internets.
i just recently became the happy owner of a Note, but i have been completely unable to connect it to any of my pc's ive had a galaxy i9000 that i didnt have any problems with but with my note it wont work.
under win7 64bit - when i plug the usb cable a "boc opens" in the drop down menu called MTP and when i klick that nothing happens, ive trid the varies ways of removing the sd card unmounting it etc. and debugging and so on but wont work.
it randomly connected once but then it dissapeared from my computer.
under winXP 32bit it just says usb device not recognised, i really wanna root this thing so i can play with the true power of this amazing device.
and on both pc's ive tried with kies and driver packs both together and seperately.
anyone out there that can help me out with this problem ?
cheers
and happy new year

Before connecting it to the PC with the cable, click "connect storage to pc" in the USB settings. After clicking it, then it will ask you to connect to pc. If you connect to pc before clicking it will not connect.

Hello i have done that but the same happens ive done it like it says i should i just dont get why my pc wont recognise it , when i press it and then it waits for me to plug it in, i do that the dialogue box shuts and then nothing happens besides windows saying unrecognised device connected
Strange, Mine connect fine just like how marinervijay mentioned. Go to Settings > Wireless> Usb Utilities and press connect first and then insert your USB, then press connect USB. Voila. There should be a window prompting to open in your windows just like when u insert a flashdrive to ur computer.
iknow its supposed to work like that.
the problem is that it doesnt work :/
Okay, have u tried resetting your Note to factory default?
no i havent tried that, because its all new it didnt work since i got it, i never thought that that might help, ill give it a go.
thx
On another, you might have a defective USB given to you by ur retailer. Perhaps you can contact them somehow and ask them to replace your USB?
do you mean the USB cable delivered with the phone ?
Cheers
Yes. Could be a defect. I'd suggest you check with your retailer if it is replaceable if none of what mentioned is working for you.
Hi,
Have you ticked USB debugging? Its under Settings>Apps>Development
Then it should show usb connection in notification tab, tap it and set usb storage as on.
There may be few problems here so I will suggest different solutions, one might work for you
1. Turn off your antivirus and connect, it should work, see after connecting mobile that does it install something near "Bottom clock"?, open "my computer" see if it gives you N7000 (give it a minute). sometimes your computer settings are a problem
2. If no, Install latest Kies on your computer as it downloads Samsung drivers for your phone
3. after connecting 1st time, computer takes some time to recognize your mobile--be patient--
4. if all of above doesnot work, restart computer, connect USB to another (or same) port (turn off antivirus) and see
5. Nothing, try in Setting>Applications>Development>debugging Mode
6. if not, try on another computer
7. still does not connect, change USB cable
8. Still nothing there might be a issue with your device, but I will not conceive that every quickly, trying all above few times should resolve the issue..

Hey,
I am able to get USB storage, and I got root access thru the batch files and help provided in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
I have Kies installed and this probably helped detect the phone.
Hope this helps..
USb Problem
Hi I've had the same problem.
I have been using the Note quite happily as a Mass USB storage since early December. Plugged it in this morning and I don't get anything. I have also tried the debugging and all the other things listed. Here's what I get:
Usb debugging on - just a sound and a charging indication
Usb debugging off -usb connected Mtp connected on the notification pull down page. When I click on notification it just shuts the window.
I have tried dialling *#7284# and selecting USB PDA which didin't do anything for me but others seem to have had some luck. See this link:
blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/2010/12/24/How-to-repair-the-USB-not-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
I will be rebooting tonight but I don't really want to.
only the Samsung USB wire works
I had this problem today. The Note would never connect the USB or external storage. I searched and found this thread.
I then noticed it was another USB cable (I gave about 1,000 now!). I tried the Samsung one, and it worked first time.
It is annoying, because these cables are normally swappable with any device. It appears Samsung have defined their own standard. The great thing about standards, of course, is that there are some many to choose from!
USB cable was defect - and replaced
Thanks for the help everyone
I have been away from XDA for a while, however, I saw a Lollipop update for the Note 3. I went and updated, however, during the process I lost safestrap and the phone is Soft Bricked. It will boot into Stock Recovery and the Samsung logo.
The issue I am having is my USB port isn't being detected. I have re-installed numerous driver packages and tried every cable I own, 10 different cables. I also installed Windows to dual boot on my Mac and tried to see if maybe it was my wife's PC. Nothing is showing up in Odin and it shows as a unrecognized device.
I do recall a year or two ago, their being a cable you could buy that would rectify all of this and I cannot remember it for the life of me.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can try to get the Note 3 booting back like normal before I go and buy a new phone?
Thanks!

I might just be spitballing here, but I've had issues in the past using the USB ports on the front of my pc. Once I discovered that, I always used the ports on the back of the pc without any issues. Just a thought...

Yeah I have tried every USB port on the Mac and PC. I am certain I will have to buy a new phone since the USB isn't being recognized. Also to be noted, I have not been able to mount the Note 3 USB as a Media device to transfer to/from since I bought it used.
I have researched the issue of my Note 5just being able to slow charge via USB, and not be able to do anything else. I have tried all the proposed solutions I found, but can not fix the issue. The things that I have noticed to not work are:
Fast Charge: Cable and USB charging is detected, but cannot fast charge. I have tried the same charger and cable on other S7 edge, and it able to Fast charge. Fast charging is enabled in the battery menu
Connect to PC: Whenever connected to any PC, the PC shows “USB Device Not Recognized." I have the latest version of Smart Switch and the latest drivers. I have tried multiple computers and windows 7, 8 and 10. I have also tried to connect to the PC when the phone is in Download and Recovery mode and get the same error.
Connect to any OTG peripheral: Nothing is detected by the Note 5. Same cable working on other device.
Connect to Gear VR: When connecting to Gear VR, it gives the chime, the black screen with the little x in the corner appears for a second and then it goes back to the home screen.
What I have tried to do to fix:
Different cables/chargers/USB ports
Checked if any of the 5 pins are broken in the cable
I have lifted the tongue of the charging port in the phone via tooth pick
Done a factory reset
Any insight on this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried different 2A charging bricks? A regular 1A charger would still take a long time to fully chargeNote5.
You could also be looking a bad USB-port or a faulty battery, both of which would be covered under warranty provided no large physical damage is evident on your device.
Thanks for the reply. I have tried the original Samsung charger, 2A, 1A, and 0.5A charging bricks, but the phone shows either Cable or USB charging.
About the faulty battery, will that cause the PC and other peripherals to not detect the phone?

Same happened to me two days ago. I restored an old backup, done a factory reset and restored my actual rom again and problem solved. Idk what the problem was related to. Try wiping cache again, maybe it helps.

I have done a wipe from TWRP, but the issue was not fixed. I can not change ROMs etc as I can not connect the Note 5 to the PC via USB cable, even in TWRP.
Was your phone just not Fast Charging, or it wasn't being recognized by the PC, etc.
Thanks
Actually y have the same problem, unfortunately I don't have root access.
Try the app called USB host check, maybe they can help you.
Is not possible to me because the PC don't detect the phone connection and obviously I can't make the root.

I have the same issue tried the same fixes. No luck. Have you found a solution please?
I ultimately had to change the motherboard. Changing the charging port did nothing.
However, I suspect it was a corrupted firmware. If you can somehow flash a latest stock firmware and check, that would be great.
In trying to fix the firmware I had corrupted Stock ROM. Since I could only use WiFi to transfer files via WiFi FTP type apps, and I didn't have a working ROM backup on my phone, after the Stock ROM was corrupted, I could not upload any new files to flash with TWRP so I had to change the motherboard.

If you see the "USB Device Not Recognized" message when you connect to the PC, then I think the charging port is fine. It is some issue with the firmware as phone is not able to provide the correct PID and VID to the peripheral devices to identify itself. The charging port and its circuit doesn't hold that info. If possible, try to flash a stock firmware from TWRP as ODIN will not work (I am not aware of the exact procedure). Just MAKE SURE you have make a backup of your current setup and leave it on the phone as if you have an unsuccessful flash, you will not be able to use ODIN or ADB as your cable will not work.

I've messed up, I've already clear the cache, Dalvik , Data and System without having backup Rom/firmware in my internal memory. I've try using OTG. Still no hope. Twrp won't regconized it. :crying:
If there no hope to solve this... I think ,I will sell my note5 for replacement parts , sadly.

I got into the same problem. I then ordered a replacement motherboard from China and installed it. After that it is working flawlessly.
I'm in same predicament pc won't recognize phone and charging is extremely slow. Attempting to restore old twrp backup or flash older firmware. Crossing fingers

Are you still interested in selling the phone?
Same problem but with 2 phones
My note 5 and my friends S6 edge were totally fine, but on our farm (which now i found that has a low voltage eccentricity at around 190 V), we put them on my charger (the original charger that came with the note 5) and both of our phones now have the same problem, they charge very slowly ( up to 6 hrs for a full charge) and are not detected by any pc using 3 cables that work with other phones normally, the charger itself is okay, and works well with other devices (at home of course, and fast charge works with other devices).
I have tried everything, restart, safe mode, delete cache, charge while its off.. with a number of chargers and cables, it does not make any difference.
If any one knows how to fix this, your help is appreciated.
Mine is a little different, My Note5 is not charging at all via USB but works fine with wireless charging. In short, even if i plugged it via PC or via charger, it does not charge anymore.
But I noticed something, when I am in TWRP recovery, my USB OTG drive is readable and when i am in download mode, Odin reconizes the Note5's COM port. I did a reflash of the stock ROM hoping this will do the trick. but it failed. still does not charge at all via USB.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance. all answers appreciated.
this seems like you have faulty usb port .
When I insert my USB cable into the PC, there is no response, no notification sound saying that a device was connected. The phone simply charges and does not seem to enter file-sharing mode. There is no activity on PC or phone when it gets connected. Not even a USB sign, just "cable charging". Any ideas?
I am certain it's not the cable because when I connect my old S8+, it all works fine but my PC just doesn't react to S21. I've also checked the developer options and it's set to "transferring files" mode there.
I installed USB drivers but it didn't help. The only way my phone gets detected is if I enter download mode but that''s not very useful to me
Sounds like a driver issue.
Check Event Viewer for error messages.
Try looking under drives and opening directly from there.
Try turning off Developer options.
There are no errors in the event viewer, the computer simply does not react when I connect my phone. All it does is charging. Turned off dev mode too, no dice.
same thing here..
factory reset my phone
reinstall adb driver on pc
still missing usb options upon plugging in the cable
I'm thinking of returning the phone at this point... I've even flashed through Odin just now and it worked perfectly but it won't connect to PC.

I had the same problem, until I used the cable that came with the pods pro.
Its very weird because I have other high quality usb cables but they didnt work with my S21U exynos edition.
Only the samsung one worked.

I don't have pods pro though... The only cable I have is some generic USB cable that works perfectly for my S8+ and a USB-C to USB-C cable that came in the box with the phone. None of them work. I don't know what to do
Nevermind... I have just cleaned USB-C port on my PC and it worked! Still weird how it won't accept my high quality USB cable though
My S21U connects fine to my work PC but doesn't connect to my home laptop, both run Windows 10. The laptop doesn't react at all to the phone being connected, the work PC behaves as normal. The only difference is my work PC is on W10 Pro, the laptop is on Home, both are up to date. I've been blaming Windows so far but I have no idea if it's that or the phone.

Are you using the same cable on both your home and work PC? If yes, try different USB slots and make sure to clean them too, that's what helped me.

Same cable but I will check the ports on the laptop later, it is a good possibility that they are full of fluff.

Yes exactly and i tried the cable with 2 different phones and they work perfectly. When connected to S21U it only charges....
You need to use a full pin usb c cable. A usb 2.0 type c cable will not work
Connected fine to windows 10 pc here used my Xbox elite cable no problem. Hopefully you find a solution.

And cable is not USB 2.0. Cable from P40- Pro. I tried different cables, different PC, no effect. Model SM-G998B/DS. I contacted support 3 times, no effect. The "data exchange" option does not appear on the phone".
in the file explorer are you able to see more than just media files from your phone? are you able to see documents files, ex.. docx, pdfs? how about zip files and .exe files? are you able to bring any files from your pc to your phone? i'm not able to do those. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I decided to just do the factory reset on my phone and that helped the issue. As well as Windows 10 updating the Samsung USB drivers to the latest 2.17 version.
