[Q] Replacement HTC One screen colors yellowish??? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My lower microphone stopped working and I contacted Tmo about it and they sent me a replacement phone. The power button on the replacement didn't have a click to it, it was soft and did not work most of the time and the screen had a yellowish or orangish tint to it compared to my original One. I contacted them and I sent back the replacement and they sent me another. This one seems functional button wise, but has the same yellowish/orange tint to the screen.
Are they replacing them with crappy screens or are they like that new? I really hate to give up my pristine phone (minus the broken mic) with a sharp bright screen (compared to the replacements) for some refurb with a sub par screen. I also have the extra warranty on it so that I can get a brand new one for $135 or something, but I am concerned no matter what I am going to get the crappy screen and have to pay for it. Whereas I can swap mine for a new/like new one from warranty? Is it possible to swap the screens? Can I send it to HTC to have them fix the mic? I can live without the phone for a week or two (have my old Sensation 4G). Having my original phone rooted, S-off, Super CID, running ARHD 20.x wouldn't have an affect on the screen color would it? It currently has 4.12 on it and my orig phone is running 4.3.
Thanks in advance!

Just send it in to htc

How does one do that? And would I have to return the phone to stock?

I am on the phone with HTC now and he says that if the bootloader is unlocked, the warranty is voided. He put me on hold to see if I will be wasting my time sending it to them.

Well that plan is out the window! He said he could not be sure if it would be covered, but he felt like they would not fix it and return it as soon as they saw it was unlocked on HTCDev.
Ok, so back to swapping screens...

TBH I had the exact same thing happen. My camera started having black spots and I got it replaced. I'm on the third one now and its a little yellower than mine but there isn't a single seam. So I said screw it, once the N5 comes out I am selling and upgrading to it. Thought about the G2 as well, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes the yellow tint is from the glue and it gets better after about a week of use. Some are just yellow though. How I know this is I had two ones. My black one was a lot more yellowish when I first got it to my silver one. I had read that sometimes it's the glue that causes it and after use it will become whiter. I was skeptical but I wanted to see of I could see any difference. To speed up the process I got one of those dead pixel apps that cycles though different colors really fast. I plugged the phone in and ran it for about 4 hours.
My results shocked me. My black one after that had a much whiter look to it and now my silver appeared to be more yellow compared. So in the end my black one ended up being brighter and having whiter whites.

They dont even look at that if the problem you are having has NOTHING to do with anything that unlocking the bootloader could possibly break. If you bricked your phone, then they check. I'm not guaranteeing that they do, but they say that it "MAY" void your warranty. For example, if your power button stops working, then they dont care. Same with your case. Unlocking the bootloader has nothing at all to do with the screen being yellow.

This happened on the iphone 5 as well. I think they're just newer units.

I am giving the stuck pixel app a shot now. Hopefully it will whiten it up the screen! I will report back later about whether it helped or not.

if you are insured, u could always smash the sh#t out of it and claim for a new one lol!!!!

But if I opt for the insurance, I may still get a phone with a yellowish screen. Then I just spent $150 to get a phone I could have gotten for free through warranty.

[Q] URGENT HELP~~~Are These Dead Pixels???

Hi Guys,
After hearing so much problems with the Note screen, I had another good look of mine tonight and found these weird looking white lines/dots at the bottom left of my screen.
Are these dead pixels or stuff underneath the screen?
HELP Please.....might have to get an exchange with handtec...so much hassles....
Those look like stuck pixels to me.

You have taken a pic with the default scratch guard on just remove and slightly clean the screen and see if it goes away, but most probably its 2 dead pixels, mine 1st one had 1. Quality issues with samsung !

I'm pretty sure it's not between the screen and the default protector....where did you buy yours from?
Seriously...I'm very disappointed with Samsung now....I mean, I have heard many people having problems with their screens, but never thought I would get one of them defected ones....
Looks like dead/stuck pixels I'm afraid.
Can you get a macro shot? It's kind of hard to tell without a closer view. When I've had stuck/dead pixels in the past, they've always been very discrete, tiny dots without any haze or blur, which it looks like yours has. I also wonder if it's something to do with the screen protection film. When you do a macro shot will you lift it and clean the screen?
Here....I have lifted up the screen protector....I didn't take off the screen protector was because maybe if I didn't handtec might exchange me the phone quicker....but what the heck...I need to be sure anyways...so here are the pictures.
Man.....so much trouble for this phone....very disappointed with the build quality of the screen now....
Now I will have to wait for a while to get my exchanged new phone ....
Any ideas how long it might take? I read on handtec that if the item is returned after 10 days...it will go under warranty and so does that mean they won't exchange my phone straight away??? Anyone got any experience with them??

nuh...I have tried to count them...there are a least 4 dots plus a line....very strange....they are also bright green instead of being white.....can't see them with the black background....
Shows you how bad of quality the phone I got....
I am very surprised I have not noticed them before.
Just found out online...there is a difference between stuck and dead pixels, and apparently stuck pixels can possibly be fixed yourself...might give it a try....
nuh...none of the apps seem to work
Been using JScreenFix for the phone for about half a day....just flashing the screen.....
I think the pixels have gotten a bit darker......don't know if it's my eyes playing tricks on me or not....but will continue to flash the screen for the rest of the day and then check it again tonight....hopefully then will be gone
The thing I don't really get is why the green dots (more than 3 of them) would only appear on Green, White and Grey backgrounds, and not appear on the Red, Blue and Black Backgrounds.....Anyone got any ideas?
because every colour of the spectrum uses green except for red, blue and some combination of red blue
black is when the screen is off

Hi there. I just bought the Note few days ago and I can confirm that I have the EXACT problem as yours. Except mine is just a dot. It's like a pixel that seems to be the only brighter pixel when the screen displays full green, white or grey background (specifically used the LCD test *#0*# & Burn-In Tester Pro app).
I assume that it is a stuck or a hot pixel simply because.. it lights up. Unlike dead pixel is like.. a dead bulb/pixel (Assumptions. HEHE.)
Actually on the day that I bought the Galaxy Note, I was really careful. I even dialed the *#0*# LCD TEST at the shop to look out for screen defects. It was FLAWLESS. So I bought it. And I have this habit to look out for defects even after purchase, so I always go to the LCD Test and Burn-In Tester Pro app to check, and is still perfect.
Not until, last night, I dialed *#0*# and hit "Black (Vibrate)" with the intention to check for the "blemishes/blobs" in a totally dark room. It was only apparent after my eyes had adjusted to the darkness and I do see the not so obvious blobs. So after noticing that, it didn't bother me so I happily watched an Blu-Ray quality video (Despicable Me) and that's when I noticed the BRIGHT pixel which I assume it to be a STUCK/HOT pixel. I hope it is just a stuck pixel which hopefully can be fixed over time. Don't know about hot pixels..
Right now I'm playing a Full HD video of a downloaded YouTube video called Pixel Fix, on loop, with Video Brightness set to full. My instinct says to try it out but i do know that after awhile, since it's an AMOLED technology, colors could be darker over time as the pixels slowly 'burn-out'.
AND if it doesn't work, I might try to turn off the phone and leave it somewhere really cool/chilled. And switch it on after awhile when it reaches room temperature. I read it somewhere that it works to remove stuck pixels. They put their phones in a fridge in a wrapping and they said it worked. I forgot though where I read it from.
Oh, it's this one --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21025093
Someone managed to fix a dead pixel. Hmm, but it's a phone with an LCD screen. Nyeh.
Good luck to us. Man, it was only few days ago when I bought the Note. *sniffs*
Seems quiet here. Seems like not many people have or aware of this bright spot defect.
But I found this which seems to concern about the matter. http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7955151.html
I guess it gives some idea of what it really is. Cheers.
And I am gonna let this 'problem' go this time cos it's so small but I do hope that it won't get any worse. Or if it fixes itself that would be a miracle

Warning RE: White HTC Vivid

I bought my white HTC Vivid on 11/11/2011. Yesterday while at the mall, I noticed under the very bright lights something I hadn't previously noticed. The paint on my volume buttons, as well as the headphone jack and the lock button had all started to wear. The volume button was completely worn, revealing a very brown, very ugly base color. I'm glad this happened while I was still within my 30 day return period (barely). I briefly considered going to the Skyrocket today, but again for the second time, I just can't help but feel like the Vivid looks better in both display quality and design (minus that very glaring flaw). I know the Super Amoled is supposed to be a better display, but head to head the Vivid is well more vivid as well as sharper (I believe that's because the vivid runs at a higher res). As a result, I picked up a black Vivid which has a different style of buttons, they don't appear to be painted like the white ones. I actually think the black one looks better, but I bought the white originally so it wouldn't show smudges and prints the way my glossy black iphone did and the way this black vivid is doing.
I was very happy with my original purchase until this occurred. Keeping my fingers crossed that this problem is unique to the white version and that a permanent root will happen soon.
Yep, my white vivid has the same problem.
So you had this issues within the first day of owning the phone? I too bought a white one and I have not noticed that yet but I'll check under bright lights later today

Wow, I never noticed but mine is doing the same thing on the bottom of the volume button. I think I'm out of my 30 period so not sure what to do. It's a company phone so I'll check with IT.

I took the phone to the ATT store for an exchange. They charged me $35 for restocking fee. I thought restocking fee only applies to returns not exchanges. Did they charge you the restocking fee when you exchanged yours?
I work for at&t and yes we do charge a $35 exchange fee...sucks but that's what they're doing now

I as well work for AT&T, and if you look at the back of your sales receipt it will tell you that you are entitled to ONE exchange within 30 days (excluding Apple products). If your device is malfunctioning and/or defective, they should not have charged you a $35 restocking fee because that is not your fault nor do you have control over that situation.
And I also have a white Vivid with a BRONZE volume button I really like the white color but that volume button is KILLING ME!!!
Like everyone else here, I also work at ATT... And the above was right as you get ONE exchange in 30 days... & there is a $35 restocking fee... the ONLY time that can be waived is if you are are exchanging for the EXACT SAME DEVICE because the original device is malfunctioning... a diffrent color choice is a diffrent sku number and considered a diffrent device.. Like the earlier post says, it sucks but that is how it is. You also have the option of going through HTC as they are who the 1 year manufacturer warranty is actually through....
I still have my Inspire, but I will be winning a Vivid early next month in an ATT Sales contest (I am in first place in my state right now, and the top 4 people each win one).. Anyways.. I know to stay away from the white one now so thanks everyone...
Just lost my white and the insurance is sending black they say they do not have white anymore

Nexus 4 - Defect rate

My initial Nexus 4 has a small hole in the centre of the backlight through which light escapes when viewed from any sort of angle. It's quite distracting, so I've elected to send it back. I've only seen one other user with this defect.
Half the threads on this forum are about problems people are having, and each seems to have a respectable number of vocal sufferers. But people come here because they have these problems, and it's tough to determine how the average customer is making out.
I'm mostly curious because I have no idea what to expect of the replacement I receive. Glue blotches? Who knows.
I wonder what the actual % is. Poll up top for those interested.
I have the speaker problem but i can not hear it. My buddy's N4 has it has well. He said he thinks his is worst on his phone. Because i can not hear it i do not think there is a problem. Over all i have been very happy with the phone. I can't wait for Franco to get his so we can get some better kernels.
These results will always be obscured. People that don't have a reason to complain usually won't make a thread saying" hey got my phone today, works as expected"
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I'm the only person I've seen posting with my defect -- the camera LED doesn't work, no flash, no flashlight. I'm obviously getting a replacement, shipped today.
Mine has a yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen. Replacement was shipped out today
My Nexus 4 locks up in deep sleep (while charging usually). In order to restart the phone, I have to hit Power + Vol Down which shows me the charging animation, afterwhich I can hit power to start the phone. I've already wiped the phone and flashed the stock 4.2 image from Google, and uninstalled any applications known to be incompatible. Seems to be a hardware issue so I requested an RMA.
Mine acted odd but, sometimes when I have a notification, I can't wake the device's screen forcing me to do a power cycle.
To the guy above me, to reset the device all you need to hold is the power button...

Had a speck of dust stuck between the screen and the display. It was super annoying at first because there was a glue "halo" around it, which dried up and it ended up looking like a huge dead pixel.
Replacement arrived fine, but I have had a problem with both phones rebooting constantly when pushing them. It's starting to really piss me off.
Anyone else notice the vibration function is off sometimes. At time its feels great like it should, but other times it feels a little too strong, like it's a little loose.
Overall I'm really happy with the phone; everything is perfect.
I have the yellow spots on my screen. They seem to get worse over time. My replacement shipped today though. I'm really hoping it doesn't have any issues.

When you come to a forum about hardware you will have a high rate of people who have faults, that is natural as people come to ask. You can only find out for yourself and luckily the consumer is protected by law for the first 30 days or whatever they have to decide they aren't happy with it.
The build quality does look quite shocking though.
Hope they don't pass all the replacement directly to LG like what they did on Galaxy Nexus after receiving too many replacement call.

What do you mean "when pushing them"?
I have a thin vertical blinking line to the of my screen it strechches the entire length of the screen.its noticible on any color background but white seems the worst as the line appears pink.I called Google today they should be sending a replacement this week.its ashamed other then the line the phone seems flawless but a line down the entire screen isn't something I can overlook

[Q] HTC ONE Light Bleed

I bought htc one of phones4u and i notice when watching videos or something with a dark background, light bleeds from the home button on to the screen. The light bleed comes from the bottom right hand corner of screen, looks like there is missing a bit of seal from the screen so the light comes through, so i arranged for an exchange as i wanted it perfect and it was annoying, anyway just received my second handset and guess what still the same problem, It is not the same phone if any of you guys thinking this!! As the problem with this new phone is the light is bit more on the side and worse. So two phones both with the same problem.
Have any of you guys had this problem?? as i have scanned the internet and i cannot see anything about this issue. Surely i can't be the only one!!
I will be sending this back for a third time if it happens again will probably be getting the s4.
I have not had this problem nor heard anyone else with it. Can you get a picture?

I just tried this. I found I could see a tiny bit of leakage from the back button. But only if I went into the room with no windows, all lights off, and gave my eyes about 20 seconds to adjust....then I could "just" see it. I would never ever have noticed this in normal usage and I imagine some will not be able to see it on my phone at all.
The time i finish work it is pretty dark, so this is why i notice it. Mine is def worse than yours you can clearly see it best way to do it is to be in a dark room and put brightness right down on htc one, i will try and take a photo later for you guys to see.

I also have this issue like the photo above in the exact same spot. Mine is only a pin hole tho.
Was really surprised to see this topic. My HTC One has easily been the most flawless screen I've ever owned. I've had some light bleeding, even if barely noticeable to anyone who doesn't have severe OCD, on almost every LED-backlist display I've used...until this phone. Even my new Nexus 10, which I settled on after many exchanges, has minor light bleeding.
Just checked my phone, don't have this issue. If possible, I'd contact the seller you purchased it from or get in contact from HTC to check out the warranty.
I came across the same issue. Anybody knows what's the cause of the issue? and how to repair it!
i'd appreciate it!

Just wondering, isn't it terrible difficult to notice the state of one pixel on a 1080p 4.7" display? Isn't it a group of pixels?
I opened up a brand new 32gb T-Mobile M7 and saw these marks, not sure if dead or stuck pixels as they only show with light colors (most prevalent in white)
It's the pair of dots that almost look like a distant light reflection, bottom right corner of the screen, each cluster is nearly a mm in dia
They almost look like nicks in the between the touch panel and lcd
When i got the phone 3 weeks ago i noticed one green pixel on the screen cursed my luck and promptly forgot about it. I only remembered last week and checked and its gone. So it obviously wasn't "dead" at all just stuck. I never ran any program to get rid of it or anything
I went through twelve units (not only because of screen issues) and for me one thing is certain: There is no ONE without pixel defects. Just depends on your surroundings if you see them and how closely you're gonna look for them. This one has four green ones visible on black backgrounds. If you watch closely you can see the area around them flickering in every color. But I keep it since it's the best one and those pixels are rarely ever visible under normal circumstances.
I bet mine has also dead pixels. But take a look at the pixel density, what would a dead pixel matter?

I was just as pessimistic as you, regarding getting a screen with no pixel defects. Fortunately, I did swap my One out and this one has zero stuck or dead pixels (used a pixel testing app in complete dark -- believe I'm OCD and looked extremely close to the point that my GF was questioning my sanity). So getting a good panel is, indeed, possible.
BUT, this handset does have a hot pixel on the camera sensor. Go figure...
