Assigned rintones not working after root? - Motorola Atrix HD

I bought the Atrix HD (ATT) for my wife new (no contract) and set it up for her. Everything worked fine, I rooted via "Motochopper", downloaded Titanium back up and began freezing bloat. Next day I called my wife and she said none of the contact pictures nor assigned ringtones work. Only the main converted ringtone works.
I don't know if the root has anything to do with it as I rooted it literally the end of the day she got it. I'm on 4.1.1 with unlocked boot loader. Also, how come there is no "task bar" on the top (pull down) like on every other Android I've had or have?
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. BTW, for the price this ain't a bad phone at all. Quick, good battery life, nice screen, etc.

Critically low space. Phone will not boot. =[

Hey guys,
I have the AT&T Tilt and actually, I've bought 4 of them from my other job. One of them I sold to one of my friends and unlocked it to T-Mobile. His phone is running Ultimate X2 rom and so is mine. Once I unlocked his phone to T-Mobile, a week later his space started running out, so he has to keep clearing storage, which he's apparently ok with. However, my problem is a bit more serious. I didn't think anything of it but my phone just 3 days ago started saying that I had critically low space, so I just removed some pictures, and viola! But today it completely ran out of space and now will not go past the initial loading screen. I can still get to Hard-SPL mode, so i guess I could just put a new rom on there, but I wanted to know if there's any way to extract these new numbers I got just yesterday.
Also, is this a known issue with WM phones and is it fixable? I tried searching and came up with nothing.
And just one more thing - what would be your personal recommendation for which rom to use? I'm looking for something that is the least laggy, but is still easy on the eyes. Going back and forth from txt msgs can really be a drag on this phone (or maybe just my experience w/ Ultimate X2).
Any help much appreciated!
I've never had this problem you mention after using many many roms. All devices can act differently though so maybe you should try another rom, as that one doesn't seem to agree with your phone.

Did you sync your phone with these new numbers to your PC? Because in that case when you sync again on the new rom you should get your outlook contacts and other phone information from the last sync, if you were able to set your sync this way.
I don't know if x2 had the 'deblogger' issues. google-xda it for plenty of help for resolving it.
If it won't boot I can't think of a way to get your new contacts out, sorry...
Good luck.

[Q] Seriously.. this shutting down thing is pissing me off

Seriously..
what is the deal with the phone just randomly shutting off. I've read the posts and am on my THIRD phone!!
I thought I had one the "Captivate Lottery" because it wasn't shutting down for a few weeks... then one day, BAM!
Then the next day, BAM... now it seems like it may go for a few days, then shut off a bunch again, then go for a few more days then shutdown again.
Now, I'm happy if it doesn't shutdown 3 or 4 times a day.
I'm past my 30 days.. what the hell should I do?
I understand your frustration because it is, in fact, a lottery. I won on the third try, but it obviously will take you more effort.
The only app that has caused problems for some is SetCPU. I suspect that certain settings were mis-managed by the users and that the app itself is o.k.
What should you do? If you purchased your unit at an AT&T corporate store, see if the Warranty Department will permit you to once again exchange the phone at the store. If you have multiple stores in the area, try another one. Maybe their batch is more stable. Under any circumstance, do not settle. Get a unit that works to your satisfaction.
Thanks for your kind words... I have a co-worker that has the same phone and his has NEVER had a shutdown.. all 3 of mine started shutting down after a couple of weeks.
My next question since I've had to return/reset this phone so many times I am sick of having to re-download/install/configure it over and over again.
What is the best/easiest way to restore all your settings and apps again after returning it?
I think you will have to call ATT and ask for a replacement. Since you are past your thirty day limit, you will be offered a refurbished phone. This is the process im going through right now. I went to an ATT store and they told me since im past my 30 they cant do anything. Only way was to call ATT warrantee

You're in luck. Download Titanium Backup from the Market. After that's accomplished, you need to understand that the default backup location for files is internal to the phone. The Catch-22 is that you'd be returning the phone...along with the backup! Here's how you can backup everything and retain your "stuff" for restoration to your new phone (you'll need to purchase an external SD card if you don't already have one installed. Inexpensive.)
Goal: Instruct Titanium Backup to automatically store your backup files on an external SD card so that restoring the backups in the event you need to exchange your phone becomes a convenient task.
Resolution: In Titanium's preferences change the backup folder name to sd/TitaniumBackup, as the default TitaniumBackup folder is, by default, internal to your phone. Then create your "portable" backup now to be domiciled on your external SD card.
Using Titanium Backup:
First, go to Settings, Applications, Development and check USB debugging. TB needs this.
In Titanium Backup select Backup/Restore then press the menu button. Select Batch then the "RUN" button you'll pick is the one that reads "Backup all user apps + system data." Then press Select all, then press Run the batch operation. After it completes the job use a File Manager (like Astro) to make sure that the backup is, in fact, on the external SD card.
Remove the external SD card and await the arrival of your new phone. Once received, install the SD card in your new phone and restore the backup.
Maybe I've gotten very lucky - I started getting "Sleeping Death" a few days after I have received the phone.
Rooted, Applied the Voodoo Fix (which uses a vanilla kernel I believe?) and it seems to have fixed it.. Hasn't done it in a week now.
So I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is software and not hardware related.
Nice Jack! You rock!
I'll think I'll follow your advise. Maybe then I wont be as upset when I return my phone for the 25th time..
I hate to say it, great phone when it works but this is the buggiest hardware I've seen. Imagine if this was going on with the iphone, we'd all be getting new phone's and there would be some huge news media about it.
I wonder if all the people with the custom ROM's have the same issue?
Got my replacement in the mail, it looks brand new to me. So far so good for the day, installed LauncherPro, AIM, MSN, and probably installing games later. It has been fine. The old phone I am sending back shut off pretty much every time I tried picking it up to check the time about 8-10 times a day.

When I first got my third phone (the stable one) my heart skipped a beat each time I looked at it, worried that I'd find it turned off. After a while you learn to take it for granted that it's "solid." Hope your good luck continues.

Thanks, hopefully it will be fine. Luckily somehow I ended up with 7 screen protectors (3 from ATT, 2 Bodyguards, and 2 from Stealth guards when they were giving them away + shipping cost) I will put one on it later today maybe and since I have so many, it won't really matter if, hopefully not, I have to send it back later or take it off.
I was all happy for awhile but that ended. Now its about 6 or more times a day.
I am tring different settings and now a different launcher to see if its something to do with the stock software installed.
I am intrigued with the voodoo hack but I am not sure I want to go that far yet. I respond if I find anything that is successful.

Don't waste your time. It's hardware-based. Anyone going down the road of trying to assess which software is causing the shutdowns is playing with themselves. Well, at least you don't have to look your best.
Exchange it. Your other alternative is to...exchange it. In other words, (well, you get the picture).
I agree, trade it in. I have had this new one for a week and no shutdowns.

Congratulations. Wise decision, positive result. Can't ask for anything more.
Well, This is interesting...
So after my rant on this exact topic, I decided to give one last thing a try.
I changed my default launcher to launcher pro...
Its been almost a day with no shutdowns (it was doing it 6-7 times a day).
If I make it through today with no shutdowns, I'll post again.
Wish me luck!

Hi 88VGA,
did you return the phone to samsung or att? i spoke to samsung support yesterday and they gave me an RMA. just wondering if i'll get a replacement or they're going to try and "fix" mine

[Q] Does your HD7 freeze as much as mine?

I just got mine, even flashed the ROM for mine (T Mobile) and this phone freezes almost literally every 5 minutes and programs freeze a lot and won't allow me to open any other programs and I'm just curious if this is common with other people? I cannot use this phone at all for daily use unless I ONLY use it for texting and not open or use any other programs .
why did you flash it? :S
Mine actually works really nicely, and after changing my polling to 30 minutes instead of as items arrive, i get a completely full day of hard use out of mine...why did you flash it?
Moved to General
Well if you flashed anything theres your answer
You can flash HD 7 ??? never knew it lol what did you flash it with...
I do get a bit of lag now and then if i open too many programs, but not that bad
must say MS has done a good job of winmo 7 hope the updates come soon though
What ROM? How did you flash? Where did you buy the device.
This is the FIRST device I am using with MS OS on it, that actually did not freeze on me at all. The WP7 on my HD7 is fluid, fast and stable. Not a single freeze or hangup. Of course if you are talking about loading of apps like Twitter and Facebook, well, they take time to update and thats an App issue. Not th OS issue.
I think there is something seriously wrong with your device or what you have done with it. Better call up the customer care and get a replacement.
Not even one freeze in 8 days
I flashed the official TMOUS ROM that's been posted in these forums, and nah I mean it way freezes like every 5 minutes... guess I'm the only one with the problem then ? Even factory resetting it still freezes then reboots like every 5-10 minutes... man this sucks, and the phone is so fluid though...
I do mean it freezes/reboots A LOT!
Is there any way I can get a replacement even though I bought it off a friend? (practically straight up brand new) Like lie or something to T-Mobile and say I got it off some smaller T-Mobile dealer? The phone is scratchless and scuff free.
Or any suggestions?
Is it possible that it's a hardware issue? I don't think it could be though...?

T-Mobile has a 14 day return policy, and if your friend purchased it on contract (new line, or as a upgrade), then only he can return it as he will be asked for proper ID in order to identify himself as an authorized person the account.
If he bought it outright (full price) and gave you the receipt, you should be able to go back to the same store and return it and get a new.
Either way, I'd say return it and get a new one. And however you flashed it, don't. Its perfect out of the box. Not once has the phone froze on me.
Blah guess I just got bad luck , it seems to freeze 90% of the time whenever I start up the HTC Hub and am in it or go to the main screen. But thanks everyone for your input .
you still haven't answered what rom you flashed.
Also, maybe your friend knew it was defective and hosed you.

he did actually answered on post #9
anyway, does anyone experienced a lockup when using the alarm when the alarm sets off but left alone for a long time? cause i tried using this phone as an alarm but could never wake me up even on full blast volume. so it is left there for hours .. then when i do eventually wake up .. i see the snooze and dismiss buttons up front and when i tried pressing any of the buttons ..the phone doesn't respond.. so i restart the phone and its back to normal.
Ah yeah guess I did get scammed blah. Oh well, **** happens... the one time I did use the alarm it worked for me and woke me up.
But I seriously wonder why it's all super messed up?
Could it be a hardware problem?
Hmm and right when it freezes it automatically enters airplane mode... then stays frozen until I take out the battery.
EDIT: Actually it seems like the HTC Hub makes it freeze 90% of the time and makes other apps not pop up or nothing. Bah! Would like an update (when HTC/Microsoft releases one) fix this problem?
Please, can you tell us, HOW excatly you've flashed a new ROM , because I thought it was actually impossible before someone find a kind of HSPL or something like that for WP7 ????

I flashed mine because of reboot issues too. Mine would reboot and not only that it would hard reset ! After the flash the phone works like a charm. No freezing, no reboots, no hard resets.
Be sure to choose the right one. I don't believe these are upgrades in anyway, just a fresh ROM to install to start from the beginning.
mine hung at the white splash screen / boot screen, so i hard reset (dialled into my memory from HD1 days!) and it was fine. Took the SIM card out later to put into HD1 to write down things to manually move across (cheers MS for no easy option to migrate*), put it back in, frozen again.
Hard reset: still frozen. Doesn't seem like anything i can do - phone seems bricked. Will have to take back - can't find anything on forums. LAME!!!
*option to migrate / set your own ringtones / use swype / send texts, etc, will be available from 2011
OP, have you called htc and reported the problem. It might take them a couple weeks, but they will warranty it for you since you can't take it to t-mobile.
It has to be hardware if it did it before and after flashing.
call htc @ 888-356-2375 (for USA HTC)
If you have an SDCARD in the phone it could be the problem, remove it.

[Q] Moto X randomly dies

Ok, so I bought a brand new in box Moto X from an acquaintance. After a month or two it started randomly rebooting, and after a couple of weeks of rebooting once or more per day, it died. Wouldn't power on (not even recovery). I sent it in for repair>got it back>3 days and it died again>sent it in again>got it back>1 day and it died again>sent it in again>got replacement>2-3 months later the new phone is starting the cycle again. Every time I pull it out of my pocket, the lock button doesn't work, and it's locked up on Active Display. I hold the power button and reboot it, only to have it happen again in an hour. I am doing a factory reset now--does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? what i should avoid when setting it up again?
This phone is 100% untampered with. No root, no nothing.
Please help me out. Thanks!

That sounds like a headache.
When were both phones manufactured? What version of KK were you running? Did you upgrade software OTA, if so what did it upgrade to?
Are you saying you never downloaded any apps? never installed anything on the phone? What services did you use? (apps.. anything, what were they?) Were there any other things you noticed out of the ordinary? What were Motorola's responses the first time they replaced the phone? What are their responses now that you are having the same issues with this replacement device?
Otherwise I'd advise you let us know what modifications (apps installed, anything) you had done and continue to do, that will give a variable context to the issue, at least. Other wise we a have an issue with no variables on the actual phone. The more information you give the higher quality the responses you can receive

1) I don't know when the phones were manufactured. Can you advise me how to tell?
2) I had a number of apps on it including WhatsApp, BBM, Toggl, SwiftKey, The Weather Network, ES File Explorer, BBC, The Economist, Espresso, Google Now Launcher, Dictionary.com, TimmyMe, MyBackup Pro, eBay, Amazon, Kayak and a few others. It's still doing the same thing after a data wipe.
3) The first three times I had trouble they had me send in the phone with no quibbles. The first two times they tried to repair it (the documentation just said "replaced component, and reflashed software"), and after two failed attempts, they simply replaced it. Now they want to start the cycle over again... asking me to send it in for repair.
When they sent me the replacement it arrived with 4.4.4. The previous phone had issues with 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 both. I am still running stock 4.4.4.
Thanks for your help

Thanks, hopefully your info helps someone help you better or hopefully it can help/spark someone truly seasoned in android/moto x etc to chime in
To check your manufacture date boot into your fastboot menu, check image to verify you're there.
Then choose BP Tools and then once that menu loads choose the option for UPC/Manufacture date read out, check for the date when it appears on the screen, maybe you are on a batch that has specific issues.
I've never heard of this issue, yuk sounds terrible. Goodluck! If you do end up finding answers somewhere else can you please come back here and post the resolution?
When I hit BP Tools it just reboots the phone... I don't know what's wrong???
maybe static electricity?
or do you use any cases?
maybe wrong charger?
Multiple devices, different Android versions, Sounds like an app issue to me.
If it happens frequently, then that is good in a way... You could factory reset and don't install a single app. If it doesn't act up for a couple days ..... Install about 5 apps. Go a couple days.... Install 5 more, etc... Etc. When it starts to act up, you know it's an app you recently installed, so it'll be easier to narrow down.
A logcat could help too. Search on that for how. It would likely show what happened at the time of the reboot /shutdown.

use the volume +up button (once BP Tools is highlighted) and not the power button to select BP Tools I'm assuming that's what's happening, hmm
I would send it back to Motorola again. If the issues continue, tell them you want it replaced with something else like the 2014 Moto X.
Ok -- so the issues stopped completely over Christmas vacation, but I went back to work this morning (I work in a dusty woodworking plant) with my phone in my pocket, and bang, they were back. Every time I pulled my phone out of my pocket it had powered off, and finally it didn't want to power back on. I called Moto, and this time actually got a competent rep on the line. He blamed the issues on static electricity, and I second his opinion, because the machinery I work with tends to create some static, and the dust in my pocket may exacerbate the problem (?)
Anyway, he recommended that I plug the phone in and hold the power button for 2 minutes to drain the static. Voila! It seems to have worked.
Solved for the time being. Thanks everyone for your input.

This thread is awesome.
Also, I recommend leaving your phone on your desk/home/car when you work
Or maybe a full-body armor case or something.
Statics & electronics = bad idea. Even if you can drain it and it works, it's still hurting the components inside.
So, it's been a bit, but I just came back to this phone. I never did send it in to Moto, though it seemed to have died completely. It sat in the drawer for a couple of weeks, and now on a whim I plugged it into my computer, and it started up! I had never tried plugging it into a computer, just chargers...
BUT,
In the last 10 minutes it's been sitting here rebooting itself every 2 minutes... I guess I'll try wiping it again (It didn't do the trick last time), but this phone has serious problems.

Nexus 6 (rooted, stock rom) won't turn on anymore. Please help

Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a pretty tough issue mith my beloved (and, so far, flawless) Nexus 6. It had root and a stock rom on it, 6.0.1 (MMB29V). I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone right after buying it more than a year ago and I've been flashing new factory images a couple times (specifically when 6.0.0 and 6.0.1 were released). I usually do everything via Wugfresh's NRT, not because I can't use adb and fastboot, just because it works fine and I'm lazy.
Yesterday, while I was working, I used "Tiny Scanner Pro" to scan a document (legit copy bought on the store, as any other premium app in my phone) and it got stuck for a while, then a popup about Google Play Services came up. I dismissed it and another appeared, and it kept going like that. I was at a client's and I was in a hurry, so I took the pic with my tablet and forced the phone off. Later I turned it on, it seemed to boot regularly, but when the SIM unlock screen appeared and I entered the (right!) PIN, it said that no SIM was found, then the home screen appeared but after a while the screen went black and it started rebooting. Recovery (TWRP) and fastboot were working, so I decided to take it home and re-flash the stock rom: it had been a while since the last time anyway, a new version was out and the OTA update notification was getting annoying. I connected to my PC in recovery mode and transfered my pics and data via adb while I downloaded the latest stock rom (6.0.1 MOB30D). Then I user NRT to flash it (selecting "Soft-bricked/Bootloop" as current status). It appeared to work fine as it went through the usual copying and unpacking. Then, when the phone was supposed to reboot, it just blacked out. I waited a long time, in fact I went out and came back a few hours later, and it was still that way. Now it doesn't power up, no matter how long or hard I press any combination of the three buttons, adb and fastboot do not detect it in any way, of course, and it doesn't seem to charge either (i.e. I left it plugged to its original charger overnight and it still feels dead cold). By the way, the phone warranty shouldn't have expired, but I'm afraid it wouldn't cover this since it should still have the custom recovery and unlocked bootloader in its comatose body.
I've taken a look at similar threads but none of them describes the very same situation. Is there something, anything I can try to do before giving up? I hope somebody can help me. I thank you all very much in advance.

Bricked!. When the phone is still under warranty send it for repair. Do not use arguments.
Just: phone will not switch on and does not charge.
Because this is a Nexus device, the custom recovery shouldn't affect your warranty. It is however, a moot point. The device is totally dead, and a call to Motorola is in order.
lupusyon, I had a discussion with Google about an 18-month-old Nexus 5 on which the radio had died - the "no SIM found" error that seems very popular. They asked me what I'd done to try to fix it. I told them that I'd tried several different radios, half a dozen different ROMs (not just Google stock), in short I'd messed around with it over a long period (it had been rooted with custom recovery pretty much since I bought it).
Response? No quibbles. "Here's a refurbished N5. Just send the broken one back in the enclosed pre-addressed pre-paid bag."
Go for it...

I bought it on Amazon Italy Marketplace, I'm not sure if they're supposed to handle the thing or if I should contact Motorola. I'll just check with them first. Thank you everybody for the kind advice, I'll let you know how this turns out. :good:
I confirm what dahawthorne wrote above: it took them about a month but Motorola repaired my Nexus under warranty, no questions asked. It seems they replaced the Mainboard PCB.
Thanks everybody!
