Screen won't turn on after repair - Nexus 7 General

So my brother accidentally cracked the screen of my Nexus 7 a while back.
Yesterday I received replacement screen, put the device back together ant turned it on.
But the screen stays black without a hint of flick.
Device is definitely on, internal SD mounts when I plug it in a PC and I hear the sound from the Nexus when I pull the cable out.
I've inspected the flex ribbon cable, looks undamaged.
Is my video output chip fired or something?

I would say reseat the flex cable and try again if it doesn't turn on perhaps bad screen.

If you pulled on the small flex cable that was connected to the display before you released the small retaining lever on the back of the connector, there is a good chance you cracked one or more traces on the flex. I had this happen and had to buy a replacement flex. Asus made the traces too narrow right where the flex enters the LCD connector.
EBay vendors sell the flex for $10-20

Yeah, after thorough inspection with a magnifying glass it seems like the flex cable is the problem. Ordered the replacement already.
Meanwhile, gonna play with some conductive paint

Parting out Nexus 7

Hey guys, I'm considering parting out my nexus 7 because its digitizer is partially broken. I was just wondering if you guys have a need for any of the parts, and what you would pay for them. I'm not selling the parts yet, just getting an idea of if its worth my time to do so. Thanks!
I'll take the back cover for $10 shipped to Miami.

I'll buy the LCD flex cable (photo below). I'll offer $10 incl mailing it to St Louis.
It's the little short cable that pops off the main board - it's located in a small gap between the battery and the main board.
You have to be very careful with this cable as the LCD end is damaged very easily. Do not pull on it at all.
To remove it, you have to
-remove the battery,
-remove all the small screws holding in the sub chassis - unscrew the speaker
-pop off the upper connector - it just pops straight up - do not pull on the cable though
-remove the digitizer cables - flip up the white cable clamps at the rear of the 2 connectors
-remove the subchassis - you'll have to remove the copper heatsink that is taped to the back of the LCD
- flip up the black cable clamp on the rear of the LCD flex connector and carefully slide the connector straight out without bending it up at all.
Let me know if you're interested.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies. Ill let you guys know it I'm going to sell the parts.

My Droid 3 Stopped Working

I think it's my flex cable because it had been shutting the screen off when I would slightly move the keyboard open, and I would have to battery pull to get it on. I know the touch part of the screen worked because I could slide to unlock it like normal. I took it apart yesterday and it powers on but all that works is the backlight. I am gonna try taking it apart again and see if I can get it. But boo!
Seems it's a quite a common problem
Had the same problem 2 weeks ago and I found the cable with a tiny tear in it under that metal square cover that straps the cable to the metal slide plate. After a little while on ebay I bought a 32 gig s3 for 260 used. The old d3 just not worth it anymore

I wish I had the money for a phone that worked well on JB. I do like the D3 though.
Well my flex cable had a tear in it. That's probably why it was broke.
Mine was torn right above that in the bend

So you gonna fix it?
I'd need another cable or something. I found a D3 someone was selling on Craigslist that has a broken charger port. All I would have to do is swap motherboards and I should be good to go, or I could use my wife's phone to charge it.

Just replaced my flex with a $30 replacement off ebay.
$30 or $40

Charging flap broke off

Under regular usage, my charging flap broke off. I went to T-Mobile and they said I would have to pay $175 to fix it! Anyone have an idea of how I can get it fixed, or will I just not be waterproof anymore

Did you lose the flap? Or do you still have it? If you have it, did you just rip it out of the hole? Or did the piece that goes between the flap and the whole break? I've caught mine and pulled it out like 3 or 4 times, but I've always been able to get it back in with some effort.

I've seen others have this issue and say that calling Sony got them to send them a free replacement, only for the Z1s (not the Z1) though...

tough luck there mate,
TBH i wouldn't call that a charging port either that would be the micro usb port,
ive used it all but 4 times myself when i first rooted my phone,
u use a maglock charger or use the dock, as the usb port isnt made for everyday use
thats why they put the charging dock in the box when you buy it
it also charges faster through the dock/maglock than via the usb
id just push the port back in and get a maglock charger or use your dock
Not everyone got a free dock with their phone.

Yup. I didn't get a dock with my Z1.
My flap also broke off. I bought the replacement for ~10$. Plastic part is still inside though. Since my glass on the back broke off I called service that is authorised by Sony (so I won't lose warranty for repair) and they put a reasonable price for back glass replacement. 250PLN. It's not crazy high, but isn't a 6pack. I asked how much will cost the replacing of the flap if I provide the replacement part along with the regular cost of the flap replacement and the woman on the phone said that that'll be free.
Ask about the price if you provide a replacement.

this can help you, some1 here bought it and even showed that they are waterproof too
I guess I'm getting a dock now. I have tmobile as well and if they charge for this kind of stuff, I'd rather just pay the $10 and get a dock.
I broke my flap as well..feel asleep on the phone while it was charging. Got a replacement from witrigs website.
However, a small piece of plastic was left inside and I used a pin to take it out..wasn't as easy as I thought...the hole is really small...and my pin wasn't as thin as I'd like.
Putting the replacement was easy..used the same pin to just push it in lol

How long did it take you to receive it?
My flap just broke off tonight, I plan to call Sony in the morning to order a replacement.. Just trying to see how long of a wait I'm looking at. My phone looks ugly on that side now, ugh.
I had a piece stuck in there just like you, had my wife get it out with a sewing pin (thanks to your advice).
Lesson learned, once Sony confirms they're sending me a replacement flap I plan to order the official Sony charging doc for the Z1 (everyone I've heard talking about it says it does indeed fit the Z1s) from their site.

[Hardware] URGENT: Ripped off chunk of mobo in botched usb replacement...

So in an attempt to desolder and replace my phone's microUSB port, I ended up ripping off the port entirely along with the chunk of circuit board that it was soldered to. Not only that, but the three little doohickeys right above it have fallen off. The affected area is circled in red MS paint pencil here: imgur.com/TgePGNY.jpg (original mobo pic from ifixit.)
Any way I can salvage this botched operation by soldering the parts on somewhere nearby? Here's my actual phone: imgur.com/5R5Kn05.jpg
I'd say cut your losses

I might; the phone still charges wirelessly. I would ultimately like to get this working though.

you can try to just replace the entire system board by buying another one with a cracked screen or something. Other than that, your kinda beat.

Hardware broken flap of touchscreen connector

hi there i just manage to broke that part that kept the ribbon from the digitizer connected, and i cant find it anywhere, is there any beloved soul that could help me out? the board is fully functional, is such a waste to trash it just cause of a digitizer clap part thanks a lot
Maybe a piece of duct tape to hold it in. Lengthwise onto the cable, connect the cable, and pull on the tape a bit before sticking to the board.
Thin piece of cardboard to wedge in to hold the ribbon cable tight
