[Q] CalDav not working for gapps account - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to Amber I did a complete factory reset as my "Others" storage was huge.
Then I set all my mail accounts as I previously did, getting all of them working ok (1 outlook and 2 gmail) but the gapps account was throwing errors all the time.
At the end, I discovered that disabling the calendar made it sync; the problem is that I really need the calendar working.
Does anyone know why it's throwing a 801901F5 error if I set up the caldav server to m.google.com and a 8007000E error if I use www.google.com ???
Thanks in advance!

Any clue on this one?

I'd try mail.google.com or gmail.com first. Otherwise I'd start looking at the settings inside your gmail account.

If I remember correctly GApps still provides EAS support (even going into the future). So I'd simply set it up using the Account Type Outlook. The server settings for this can be found using a Google Search.

Google Sync with Diamond

Hey everyone,
Google recently released official sync support for Windows Mobile devices. Google Sync supports synchronization with Google Calendar and Google Contacts. Instructions can be found here.
The issue is that the instructions and respective screen shots do not correspond with the Touch Flo interface, and I see no way of inputting a server address within the Diamond's ActiveSync client.
Does anyone know how to set up Google Sync with the Diamond? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Elliot
Just follow the instructions from the link you provided.
I will start you off:
Start>Programs>ActiveSync>Menu>Add Server Source....
..and then follow the instructions from your link!
Thank you! I was confused because it asked for my email address before the server address. My calendar and contacts synced almost perfectly, but I still have a couple of issues that maybe you could resolve:
1. Despite that everything synced, ActiveSync shows an "Attention required" message that says,
"Synchronization could not be completed. If this condition persists, try deleted and then re-creating the device's sync relationships.
Support code:0x80004005"
2. Is there anyway to get the Diamond's calendar application to recognize and distinguish between the multiple calendars I have in Google Calendar?
Thanks again,
Elliot
Google sync is used only for contacts and calendar sync, so if you check the mail or task in the option of activesync, you will have an error.
Just check contact and calendar and enjoy.
++
I've had no luck in getting this to work. Always get this error 'ActiveSync cannot reach the server. Check that the server address and proxy server settings are correct' Support code: 0x80072F78
Any ideas?

It will work as I've tried it setting up sever on the diamond, but you can also do it via activync.
I have stopped using it as I would get a couple of good syncs then the same error messages as your getting.
Also google and outlook do not play nice with each other.
All my contacts revert to Lastname_Firstname on my diamond, and the "file as" gets messed up.
fadge
Just configured the sync options on my Diamond (1) with WM6.5. But the contact sync works fine, but none of my google calendar items will appear in the calendar of my Diamond.
Is this due to WM6.5? Or are there other possibilities?
Well I successfully synchronized my HTC Diamond. But after this the ActiveSync on my handset would start automatically after regular intervals creating memory issues for me. I tried all the methods available on this forum to solve this problem but finally I had to Hard-Reset my handset. So pls try this on ur own risk.
I just configured my phone to sync every 4hr on and off-peak times, but only told it to sync contacts and it seems to be working pretty well.
Hopefully, this will reduce the amount of time it spend syncing and then I can let OggSync manage my calendar. Unfortunately, I synced my calendar and contacts first so I now have a bunch of duplicate events on my google calendar.
I wish I had know about this months ago... doh! Thanks!

I don't think google apps supports exchange? I could be wrong. You'd probably want to just add this as a google account, where in 2.2 multiple google accounts are possible. I think you're doing it wrong.
but u can use the m.google.com for google sync
i even had a setting to enable it on my domain options
and i also used that m.google.com server and recieved emails right away using a normal gmail account to test it out and worked but cant seem to get it to work with google apps domain cuz i dont know what domain/ username i am supposed to put in

Exchange is for MS Exchange servers.
What you should do go into accounts and sync, add another google account, type in [email protected] and your password. Should work
how was ot able to work with my regualr gmail account?

Correct me if I'm wrong...
Windows Mobile phones use POP/IMAP to sync with any other type of email address other than an Exchange account, because when using an Exchange account you'll need to use the Active Sync protocol.
Google Apps and Exchange are services, not clients or protocols. I don't see how you would be able to use Google Apps with Exchange unless you're doing a migration or have GPO's set on the network to set up Google Apps accounts in Outlook.

Probably through either IMAP or its own proprietary communication protocol. Gmail doesn't support ActiveSync
Gmail does in fact support Exchange ActiveSync protocol, and that is exactly how Windows Mobile devices sync most effectively with Gmail, regular or apps version. They made an announcement last year when the ActiveSync Protocol was enabled.
The config settings should be m.google.com for server, and full email address for username. I haven't tried it, because of the following reason:
The most effective way to get at your gmail from an Android phone is with the Gmail app. It does push just like ActiveSync, and supports more of the features of Gmail, like stars, threaded conversations, labels, etc.
Just tried it with my google apps account, works fine in the email app.
On the first screen, enter your email address and password, then hit manual setup
On the second screen, select Exchange Activesync
On the third screen, enter your email address in the username box (remove the leading "\" as well). Leave the password as entered, and replace the server with m.google.com. Select both checkboxes, click Next
Fourth screen, select your sync options (use Automatic(push)) and other settings as you like
Finally, give the account a name, and enter your display name on outgoing messages, and click Done.
Works great.

Just wanted to put in my pennies. I set up Google Apps accounts as part of my business, and Activesync is the ONLY way you should sync your email on Windows Mobile. It also works for standard Gmail accounts, and it will sync your Contacts and Calendar too. Just don't select Tasks in the sync options or the sync will fail.
Windows Mobile isn't just an Enterprise Solution anymore, thanks to Google.

Everytime exchange sync for gmail returns authentication failed

Hey guys,
Anyone of your experienced such problem?
I create an exchange activesync account for google. and then input all the information correctly such as the server name, username, password,
Then I select sync mail, calendar, contact, and push. After click finish, it always returns "authentication failed"
Anyone know what's going on?
Probably u have to enter a captcha trough the website (this can be done from a pc) or you have the wrong credentials.
Edit: or your internet doesn't allow you to connect, (business firewall?)
Edit 2: Google is no exchange, just use the default Google account option.

This does not work either. I have just purchased a HTC Desire S and cannot get a Google Apps working through either IMAP or Exchange.
Infact, any time I have tried to add an account via. Exchange I see that error message (Hotmail/Google Apps account).
It seems that imap.google.com is down from my limited tests, and I would want exchange support.
What gives, is the Mail client on the Gingerbread phones broke?
Cheers

I don't think you can connect through Google Mail via Exchange. Exchange is only meant for connecting to MS Exchange servers.
You have the following two choices:
- Either run the standard GMail client.
- Or run the standard Mail Client and connect via IMAP.
What exactly do you mean when you say you want "Exchange Support"? If you want Exchange support, you should look at Exchange-based email services.
BTW, I have no issues connecting to GMail's through IMAP using the default email client nor do I have issues with connecting through the GMail client.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually gmail can be accessed via exchange. As I used before in iOS. You can find it under the webpage of google/sync.
There's explicit tutorial for ios user to set up an exchange server for gmail. The mails is pushed to the client rather than retrieving them every certain time.
server is: m.google.com
user name: [email protected]
password: xxxx
cheers

That's using Google Sync (Google Sync uses the MS Exchange Activesync protocol) for the iPhone. One the Incredible S (as on the other Android phones), you do not need to use Google Sync to get push email (in fact I don't think Google Sync is available for Android phones). All you need to do is set up your Google Account and have it sync the calendar, phone book and email and you'll have everything working.
I'm not sure why you want to go via the iPhone(Exchange) route when there's a simpler (and more native way) of getting your Google mail set up with your Android phone.
Thanks man.
I know I can get push gmail from the built-in app. But what I want is to receive all my mails in just one app. Cuz I have 4 email account, which includes my school account, department account, and others, while I still want to get my gmail pushed.
Thanks for your explanation, that makes sense. I also live in Victoria, lol

The in-built google account does not seem to work for Google Apps accounts? as in anything that doesn't end in @gmail etc?
If I try the imap settings, I get an error message saying that the phone cannot connect to the server?
That is using "imap.google.com". Should the phone accept google apps accounts through the native google account provider?
And Android does work fine with Google Sync, at least it does on the Galaxy S I have.
Cheers,
MiG

It does work as I have my Google Apps account working with both the GMail and standard mail client.
When you set up your Google account, ensure that the sync for mail is on. That should set it up to work with your GMail client.

Just tried this. It says the username/password is not recognised through the built-in GMail App.....
Are there any settings I have to enable?
Most people missing the point here though? I too want to use the HTC Mail client (as I'll be honest, GMail client sucks) and IMAP only does mail, most of the time it syncs just fine using m.google.com but sense 2.1 (and 3.0) regularly get auth error's, and only go back to push mail when that's cleared or you launch the mail app to set the sync off again. It's deffo a sense issue as sense 2.0 Roms dont have the issue. It's seems to do with the way HTC have implemented their ActiveSync V14.x protocol stuff or how Google have (as sense 2.1/3 both try v14.1 first, then fail back to 12.x)
Hey ho, might dig around a bit more as there is some errors in the logs, might be able to track it down, might also ping a question over to HTC.
Seem to have fixed it, and it's a easy (if odd) fix,
Login on PC to GMail (or app for domain in my case) and change your password, change it on phone
All sorted... Dont ask me why?
So i tried a lot of things and nothing worked also hard reset, chang password from gmail account.
it´s only with the gmail all other email provider are working find and fo me i don´t like to have 2 email app´s because gmalapp is working fine but the i have to use the other app for my work and i don´t prefer it.
hope anybody can help.
incredible s
v. 2.3.3
Guys, the thing is, the default gmail app is HIDEOUS with no pinch to zoom, it f's up formatting in portrait, and is just really low quality.
The HTC mail app looks A LOT better, but problem is, if you don't set gmail up as Exchange, it fails cause it won't push.

[Q] Exchange Sync Issues - Please Help

Morning all,
I just picked-up an AT&T Nexus 6. I set it up, upgraded to 5.01, did a wipe after and then configured my phone. I setup Exchange first (hosted Exchange with Rackspace) and started running into all sorts of problems with the native Gmail Exchange App. First it wouldn't sync contacts and calendars - only email. So I did some Googling and the removed the account, re-setup the Syn with just Calendars....and then adding Contacts after Calendars was done...and then added Email at the end after Contacts was done. This worked, but then email wouldn't sync with Push after the initial setup (or with Pull configured either) and would only get new emails after closing the App or rebooting the phone. Frustrated, I wiped and re-started with Nine (gorgeous interface BTW) and it was able to sync contacts, calendars and email all at once - perfect! BUT then the same issue happened - - email wouldn't sync (push or pull) until I restarted the App or the phone. Disclaimer - I have an iPhone 6 and a Note 4 and an iPad Air 2 that ALL sync perfectly fine with our hosted Exchange from Rackspace - never, ever had an issue. I have SSL set to "Accept all Certificates" as well (per the Googling) and still no good. When i try to do a manual Refresh in Nine, it just keeps "spinning" and never syncs-up with Exchange that was either (and just winds-up draining the battery because it keeps trying).
Everywhere I read about people having Exchange problems with the new Gmail app on 5.0 - - supposedly installing Nine solved the problem, but not for me, which is obviously frustrating. Can anyone please give me some hints as to what I should be looking for? I would greatly appreciate any advice and support.
Thanks!
Adam

Try mailwise as well
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.syntomo.email
Make sure that you set the check frequency to push and check the three sync checkboxes (mail, contacts, calendar)
I had some problems with gmail but mailwise works fine
And it handles the folder tree better than gmail

Indeed this worked! Nice app, smooth interface - and appears to have all the features one would need. Thanks very much. It's a shame that the stock Gmail App doesn't work but maybe 5.1 will fix some of these things.
Appreciate the fast response.

Nexus 6 Best email app?

Hi,
I'm looking for a good email app for my Nexus 6. I basically only use a personal outlook/hotmail account. I want to sync emails manually only, not push nor auto sync after a few minutes. With the gmail app, when I delete an email in my outlook IMAP account, it comes back and i have to delete it again. it annoys me. I've tried removing and re-adding my account as well. So Gmail is a no go unless this problem is fixed. I've tried many apps from the Play store including aquamail, cloudmagic, K9-mail, bluemail, WeMail, Air Mail-email, Solmail, Outlook app and Email Typemail mail. I'm not satisfied with any of these apps because either 1. no manual sync option (only push) 2. interface isn't that nice, 3. takes too much time to load emails. I've tried Nine which is perfect for me, but I'm looking for a free app. Currently, I'm using Boxer but still not totally satisfied as it takes time to refresh my emails. Any suggestions of free third party apps will be appreciated or maybe testes stock email apps of other phones?
Thanks!
You've mentioned that you have to delete the email twice. I'm assuming you're deleting the email in GMail, then having to enter your Outlook account and delete it there, if I'm understanding you correctly. If that is the case, then the problem is with your email setup. IMAP by design leaves messages on the server, since with IMAP only a copy is downloaded to a client, with the original remaining on the server. Since Outlook is your server, you have to access Outlook to permanently delete the message. If that behavior is not what you want, check in the settings for your Outlook account and see if you can send messages using POP3 instead of IMAP.
If you can make the switch to POP, the GMail app should then function as you expect it to, deleting the messages off both server and client.

k9mail is best option.
And I suspect that complaint of "only push" is targeting k9mail (since the rest of your complaints definitely don't apply), so I will say that you CAN set it to be exclusively manual. Its in Account Settings --> Fetching Mail --> Push folders, set it to "none". Also so it NEVER checks unless you tell it to, set Poll folders also to "none".
Edit: This should give you a hint;
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159420
Seems that MS does NOT implement the "Trash" directory in their IMAP structure. That means that any attempt to delete a message via an IMAP client will perform the deletion locally, then issue a MOVE command to move the message from INBOX to Trash on the server, and since the "Trash" directory doesn't exist, the MOVE fails on the server and the message remains in the INBOX.
Solution: in k9mail account settings --> folders, scroll down to "Trash folder", and select "Deleted Items".

Actually, I meant deleting it twice from the Gmail app. So for instance, I get an email and delete it in Gmail by swiping. After several seconds, I'll get a notification or receiving that same email. And then I have to delete it again in the Gmail app.
Even so, IMAP could very easily cause this, for the reasons stated. But thanks for the clarification.

No. IMAP *can't* cause this unless there is either a protocol failure OR a configuration error.
How do you resolve the OP's problem then?

I've actually setup my account with exchange activesync on the Gmail app. Entered the manual settings for setting up the Exchange account and now the Gmail app seems okay. Although, it's sending emails only from my outlook alias and not the orignal email ID, but that's not an issue at the moment.
