I charge my phone via magnetic cable that attaches to the dock connector so that i dont wear out the seal on the micro usb door etc. But I've noticed that if i turn off the screen it comes back on within 5 minutes while charging. Does anyone know of a setting I can change or is this a bug?

I think you can change it in the Smart Connect app
I noticed something else.
I hooked up a MHL cable (Bought long ago for the HOX), to test some response times etc..
And I could not turn of the screen when it was connected (well it turns off, then immediatly turns on again).
Would be nice to know if anybody knows a way to turn it off to conserve battery.
Also I have never used any wireless methods, and am keen to know if one can stream something with the screen off.
This is however a question for a different thread, sorry OP!
I have not changed anything in smart connect, and my screen lights up when put in the dock (just like the Z did).
When I turn it off, it does stay off though.

Most probably it does not snap in fully. I had the same with my DK30 for the Xperia Z Ultra with one of the 3 DK30 docks. Just wiggle a little bit and then it might work continously.
Generally I fear the copper pins will wear out with the time or get slightly corroded so that there will be no full contact anymore. I had this problem with my LG-Smartwatch 5 years ago after 2 years (YES, they had a smartwatch-phone with sim-card and mSD ! already then ! )
Looks like i had to enable smart connect for the dock connection but change all actions to do nothing.

How you do change actions to do nothing?
I'm currently using my magnetic charger to charge, but slideshow on photo album always starts.
My smart connect has been disabled.

Hi everybody...
I have an issue for you...
Yesterday I was using my phone and battery was aboout 40%.
I then took out it from my pocket to switch on the screed and it didn't switch on...it seems the screen was on but black...
- I tried to press the switch button, but nothing...I connected it to my portable battery and nothing too...
- I tried to switch on by press all three phisical buttons and I had a short vibration and nothing else, just another vibration after about 20sec...
That makes me feel that situation was possible to fix...
Of course the battery couldn't be removed and put on again...
Finally I arrived home and I connect to electricity and nothing, I connected to my PC and I reboot the phone by the utility: it works!!
I was worried and I would like to know what happened and if that's possible to repeat again...
Thanks!

This phone doesn't play nice with a lot of portable battery chargers. Try it with the charger that came with it?
A short while after you plug the charger in, it should appear to boot and display only a charging screen. Once it gets to 10% or 15% you can pull the charge cable out, power it on normally and then plug the charge cable back in.
Oddly, Nokia micro USB chargers seem to work well with this phone, if you have one of those spare.
Hi!
thanks for the answer, but you maybe misunderstood, I know about difference between charging from portable charger and normal...it happened with my backflip when it was completely empty...
Maybe I didn't explain well...the phone went "off" alone, but I was sure battery was about 30%...and it didn't work, just the screen on and black...
In my case even normal charger didn't work to reboot phone...
My solution was just to connect to computer and reboot with the tool...
but I don't know what happened, till now it didn't happen again...
p.s. I have a portable charger bought on groupon, that it works, but it's extremely slow...
bye!!

Hey guys,
I purchased this dock and at first I absolutely loved it. However, just recently when I use this dock to connect my N2 to my tv, sometimes the content on my tv screen flickers. I use qualoty hdmi cables and made sure all cables are secure and toghtly plugged in. It is important to mention that this is my 2nd N2 (I was having problems witg my first N2). This screen flickering never happend with my first N2 and I want to know of it is the accessory that is a problem or my actual smartphone that is. I should also mention that my 2nd N2 has a problem, whenever I plug my charger in it is loosely plugged in and falls out sometimes (if this is an indication of a faulty mocrousb port then perhaps the faulty microusb port is causing the flickering on my tv screen).
Does anybody have this accessory? How does yours work?
Thanks for your time.

very likely a dodgy usb socket will cause that problem.
My dock is a EDD-S20EWE, not tried it on the tv yet, but I have used an MHL cable and it works fine without flickering

i was having the same problem and i tried a diffenrt hdmi cable and the flickering stoped. I hope this helps.
My Z1 has started playing silly games, it no longer charges properly! It will be fine for a while, typically ten minutes or so, then it will pop up a warning message saying the connected power source isn't charging the battery. It will then drain faster than it can charge. Last night for example I put it on charge around 7pm with 67% and took it off at 8am this morning, but it's dropped to 3%. I've tried various chargers and cables, the dock, all 3 of my magnetic cables (how I normally it charge anyway) and tried all the usual methods of reset such as holding the red button under the SIM port down. Nothing works. It started around two weeks ago, since then I have flashed another firmware but the problem persists.
My phone is currently plugged into a 2 amp capable magnetic dock plug with the Sony plug that comes in the box. Just typing this message it's drained the battery 9% while on charge, wifi on and network off, screen brightness down and no other apps open.
I've spoken to Sony and they won't do anything, my rear glass is cracked so they won't even look at it and they seem to think it's water damage! The phone hasn't ever seen water so that's a load of BS from them.
What can I do?

That doesn't work, the problem still persists. That's the first charger I tried when the handset started not taking a charge.

Greaaaaaaat. That's the last thing I need :-S I've just tried my girlfriends iPhone charger and it seems to charge it, very slowly. I will have to dig my Blackberry out as a back up and see how the Z1 goes.

I have the same problem after updating to KitKat. I'm using dock station too, but not the one that came with my phone (I didn't got any with it).
I put my phone to charge, and after 5-10 minutes it starts to show the message. One time I found my phone drained till 0% in the morning. So, I found a simple solution for my phone. Before I put the phone to charge, I turn it off, wait 2-3 seconds then turn it on. I immediately put the phone to the dock in the boot process. That's the only way I can properly charge my phone.
Hope this will help you...

OMG....my z1 is suddenly completely dead
yeaterday i had 60% battery, then i put the magnetic usb cable and tried to plug it in the right way. i failed and my z1 rebooted automatically. I thought this was strange. Then i tried another time. This time my Z1 is completely dead.
i have tried everything, powerbutton + volume up, red small button near simcard, charge for more than hours.
absolutely nothing!!
no red light, no dim red light, nothing!
i am lost!
is there anything i can do, besides bring it somewhere to fix it, i have no warranty left.

Don't get this part: " usb cable and tried to plug it in the right way. i failed and..."
If you connected magnetic charger in a wrong way - your device is most likely dead.

i put the magnetic usb charger upside down and then my Z1 fell out (
"If you connected magnetic charger in a wrong way - your device is most likely dead." is this serious??

Absolutely not, electronics have diodes to protect them from incorrect polarity. This was not the cause.
I put my magnetic charger in the wrong way round several times.
It made the phone turn off, but there was no issues when turning it back on. You "should" not fry the battery by putting the charger in the wrong way round
Charge the phone using usb cable. observe it for a few hours.
thanx for the suggestions, but i did that several times. i've tried with the original charger, usb charger, magnetic one.....
my Z1 worked prefect, but now it does absolute nothing! no red light, nothing
and all i did was trying to charge it with the magnetic usb charger
anyone who can help me out?
Sorry. But if your phone doesn't show any signs of life, it's time for warranty if you have.

haven't heard of this happening, ever. As said, putting the magnetic charger on the wrong way shouldn't have been able to kill the battery. better get it checked at a sony center. the people there should know more than we all do regarding the phone. goodluck bro.
Yesterday after a bit of browsing i connected my charger as battery level reached 2%. To my surprise the charging indicator din't appeared. I opened my battery monitor app to check the problem. It showed AC plugged in and not charging. The tempreature was -30C. After a little research i found out that phone does not charge under 4C. Now my phone is stuck at 1% with charger connected all the time. Since my phone is rooted i can change the value of that limit of 4C to -30C. My question is where can i find this file?
Maybe it's better to see why the temp reading is wrong? So instead of lowering the value in the system fix the temp reading, or that's what I'd do.
I really have no idea where to find the charging temp settings but I have a couple of suggestions, you could try to turn the phone off and see if it charges, or connect a magnetic charger charger, or connect both the magnetic and MicroUSB charger together while the phone is on/off.
Can't think of anything else. Good luck!

I have not done any software changes recently so its most probably a hardware problem. I have tried charging in switch off, its showing the current battery level instead of charging. Perhaps the sensors work even when the phone is off. Tried magnetic charger also, results are same as microusb charger. Changing those value is my last option.

Really??
I didn't know that! I've charged my phone with magnetic charger for some time,(a month, more or less) and it just died.
But it didn't die after using it, it died the moment I connected the magnetic charger.
