After watching a YouTube video from the app and I go back to the home screen everything is over exposed. the only fix I found was to lock and unlock the screen again. Anyone else having this problem?
I had noticed this once before when using Google Now but I wasn't aware what had caused it. At first I thought it was just the screen but now that I tested it with a youtube video you're right. When it screws up the colors it is really bad looking in Google Now because GNow relies on such a subtle distinction of colors, like the grey on grey. When the screen is working normally is looks fine but after a youtube video it looks really bad, the two greys meshing together. I'm really glad it's just some software issue. I remember looking at the screen once and thinking man those are some bad colors but the screen is really pretty nice when it's working properly.
Yes i do notice the same thing hoping Google comes with an update fast glad to know is not just me

fingers crossed it's a software problem only...

ya, I can confirm this happening with mine too. Didn't know that a lock/unlock fixed it (until a software fix at least). thanks

manually adjusting your brightness seems to help

Most videos does this to my Nexus 7.
Probably Nvidia PRISM power saving failing to shut off. Annoying. Software update should fix it.

I don't see this issue on stock. Return to stock and see if it goes away.

I'm on stock, not rooted, 4.1.1, and getting this issue usually after watching YouTube or other videos

I'm curious, I'm not seeing any of this and am wondering if you guys are running your screens at full brightness or something.
I have my N7 set to auto most of the time and am not seeing these types of contrast issues.
Sent from my Nexus 7
My Nexus is stock (but unlocked and rooted). I run my Nexus 7 almost all the time at 40% brightness.
I get this over exposed looked after playing most videos. Happens with YouTube, Play Movies, Gallery, pretty much any videos from any source. Turning the screen off and on works. Or I could just wait an minute and watch the screen gradually fade back to normal-ish.
This isn't my only issue though. My screen also seems to be poorly calibrated. Even without the video playback issue, some of my colors are faded, and whites are over saturated all the time.
Don't know if the two issues are related, but I'm going to try exchanging it because some people say theirs doesn't have these issues.
PS. I don't use auto brightness, that makes my screen way too dark (seems my auto brightness setting keeps my Nexus 7 at minimum brightness most of the time).
I have this issue (as well as minor screen separation), but can't replicate it consistently.
I just assumed it was the screen just 'waking up' from full screen mode, it usually goes to normal after about a minute.
Rarely i see a minor screen flicker/ or tearing (sortof like oldschool CRT television flicker on a few scan lines) during this 'recovery'

Interesting now that we're on level playing field. Do you have auto-brightness or hard set?

nope. brightness set to around 25%. like others, I can't always replicate but it usually happens after watching videos. locking and unlocking the device immediately restores normal contrast. This is the only semi issue i have on my n7. it doesn't even bother me that much, knowing it's a simple recovery

the problem lies within the software. perhaps you're a lucky one who is somehow avoiding this problem or you don't notice the problem yet.

I have the same issue with my N7. Android 4.1.1 completely stock, out of the box. It seems to be a problem with the hardware decoder as using software in MX player does not seem to trigger it, but the gallery player does. I see this not just after video playback, but around 5 seconds after starting playback when I begin to notice I'm losing so many details in highlights. A white contrast test on www.lagom.nl clearly shows the horrible detail level. I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same problem but how are you so sure that it is software problem. If it is a software problem then why do you get a screen shot showing no problem when in reality you can see it on your screen that you are indeed having problem on your screen at this very moment.

Another thing is that it only happens if you watch video in full screen. If you watch YouTube video not in full screen i.e. in portrait then there is no problem of over exposed colors.

Does it occur if you watch the free Transformer movie? Just curious since it doesn't for me.
Is anyone else having video format issues using Vine? Vine videos are of course square, but for some reason the app is taking video from the Note 3 and squishing the image. The quality also seems to be reduced than before when using my previous iPhone 4S. Strange indeed to me. I cant figure this one out.

You're not the only one on this, I'm having it too, as well as a friend, and other people in this forum.
Does anyone else notice that every 10-15secs on a long record, that the autofocus keeps adjusting and blurring the recording?
Anyone? I don't know anybody with this phone to check this with
I saw that happen with Instagram and Snapchat
I have the same thing. It's pretty terrible, actually. The physical camera might be great but the software is atrocious.
Mine seems to do it with the LED light on but not otherwise.
Same here, shooting video is just awful!
same issues
Hi guys , im having issues with autofocus. In particular, snapchat, vine, and samba video recording can have repetitive autofocusing with only seconds inbetween. Ive reached out to motorolla regarding this issue. Confused if it's a hardware thing or a software bug of some sort.
Nexus camera always have been a problem of focus
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you check reviews on the Nexus 6 they have said the exact same thing about the autofocus. So that leads me to believe that it is a software issue.
Did these reviews mention these different software camera interfaces in particular? Because my experiments today mostly result in video captured in Snapchat having weird erratic autofocusing while the lollipop video capture working fine.
The exception to that is when trying to a close up video, then the lollipop camera seems to be a little erratic too

worst part of owning a nexus 6
Without a doubt, this is the worst part of owning a nexus 6. I've recorded several semi-important events and the video is completely ruined for playback by the refocusing. I nearly returned the unit and bought a galaxy note 4. But I have kept the faith. I sure hope they fix this video focus issue quick.
I too have this problem with my Nexus 6 64GB version. So far, its my biggest complaint about the camera. The still shots with the HDR+ seem to turn out great for me. Video autofocus though, pure crud!
Google need to spend more time working on there software, this phone hasn't been what I expected. To many little things that stop his phone from being good enough to keep for 2 years. The little stuff sometimes makes a difference when accumulated.
So I've watched a few 4K videos, and I've watched a few 4K 60 frames per second videos, and both of those seem to work pretty well on this unlocked Note 8. However when I actually try to watch the HDR videos I get some pretty significant lag and choppiness, even when watching 1080p HDR. Does anybody else see this happening on their device?
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
You're not the only one
I too am having an issue in YouTube on the Note 8 wherre anything played back above 720p60 HDR becomes super slow and unwatchable in terms of something thats supposed to be 60fps. If you stick to 720p60 HDR for now you won't have that problem. Hopefully Google pushes out an update for YouTube asap
LG V30 stutter at 1080p HDR and above
I am experiencing the same problem too, my New LG v30 has the same issue. My internet speed is over 200mbps and I experience lag like crazy. I called Google about it and they said it is an issue on several devices and should be fixed in the coming months.
I have the same problem. Huge lag and audio sync lag when viewing videos in HDR
US unlocked note 8 , and no troubles here watching HDR. No lag or stuttering. Can you link a specific video and I can try that and let you know what happens.

Ok, unless I am doing something different, I still can not get it to stutter or have audio sync issues. I have watched Marco polo on Netflix that is supposed to be 4khdr. I have watch almost all 4k Samsung demos on you tube. I have 100 mbps internet going to a 5ghz wireless router, and sir about 20 ft from it. I can't find the setting in Netflix app to set 2160p , but can find settings in YouTube. I will keep trying.

That being said.. some can really tell...it could be me. I think WIFI and things running in back ground can effect it.. duh.. But I don't get lag. US unlocked SnapD

I've watched that video just now (plus other 4K HDR videos on YouTube) in 1440p settings and I get zero lag anywhere. I've got an exynox Indonesian Note 8, watching on a WiFi connection that is originally only 30mbps then routed through a tp-link powerline router (max 10mbps).

I watched this video , smooth as silk. Wonderful video, love all of the snakes , but frame rate was smooth, nothing choppy or laggy. I only had the option up to 1440p , and that is what I watched it in.

No lag on this video but i dont see it being indicated as HDR just 1440P, I think we might need to add more details when testing. I suggest everyone who claims smooth/stuttery enable stats for nerds on youtube and make sure to report if the video format shows 2560x1440 ( as sometimes youtube will still display 1080p even if you have 1440p selected ) and then mention if its 1440p, 1440p HDR or 1440p60 HDR.
A good example is to try this video and make sure video format shows 2560x1440

There is a very minor stuttering especially if you are sensitive to it, I asked someone do a blind test on me on a random scene on the clip and 10/10 I was able to tell it correctly. The stuttering is not buffering related. But Im glad that you are not sensitive to the stuttering. I was able to also test this 4 snapdragon variants and 2 on exynos all of which had same results. I think this is a bug on the player as it only stutters when playing in full screen.
Exynos India version and yes, even i observed this stuttering last night. Its quite annoying though. Let me know if you guys find any solution.

It has to say 1080 HDR or 1440 HDR for the stutter if it does not say HDR then you are not watching at the same quality as us with the issue.
Watched it after I turned on nerd stats , 1440p60hdr setting, and sorry to report, it was quite smooth. The colors were vibrant and scenes with the sunlight were quite realistic.

I'm glad i'm not alone. Youtube crashed and restarted my phone too. Have had the phone for 1 month and happened twice. I think it's an app problem at this point
Edit: I also tried several HDR 1440p 60fps (Peru 8k HDR 60fps FUHD) video and it lags. Have the Exynos version of the Note 8
I've tried the Pixel 4 XL, and it is one of the most beautiful phones I have ever seen, I don't use Snapchat much, but when I do use it (I'm on a Note 9) the filters seem to lag a bit, and when I used my friends Pixel 3, Snapchat ran beautifully until i ended up trying to use a filter, it lagged like crazy, way worse than my Note 9, I'm not expecting much of a difference on the Pixel 4, but I want to know if the lag is atleast reduced when using filters. I also know that Snapchat is going to do a major update at the end of this year but I don't know if I should trust them. I'm debating between iPhone 11 Pro and the Pixel 4. I want the Pixel because of Stadia too, my friend has it and Stadia actually ran beautifully, and I saw Red Dead 2 on it and I really want to get a Stadia now, especially since at 1080p Red Dead runs at 60 fps

Ah! Yep there's definite lag using the age filter but that's the only one, but it is quite bad.
Another thing I noticed with Snapchat is that the zooming seems laggy/jittery both when taking pics and videos...or is it just me?
