[Q] ProBam and PAC beef. - Motorola Atrix HD

Is the beef between the rom makers over? Cause frankly we should be glad to have more Roms for this old device rather than fighting to keep one alive. I'm looking forward to ProBam's new update since it's clearly a better daily user rom for people who don't wanna flash a new nightly every other day. Can we just push updates and drop this beef? Thank you.

From what I understand the issue is Probam used the PAC sources without asking permission to use them. While PAC is open source, they just want to be asked for permission when using their work. Its common courtesy among devs in the scene to ask permission to use others works, even if they are open source.
Look at it this way...imagine I took Arrrghhh's or Vanquish's kernel, changed a few values, and called it my own work. While their respected works are open source and freely available for anyone to use, simply changing a few things to make it not seem like their work and calling it my own is a pretty low thing to do, and that's what Bam did to the letter. While there might be significant differences between the two now, originally there wasn't.
Now that I think about it, a better analogy would be me taking the Batakang rom and replacing the Batman Logos with a Pot leaf and calling it Skeevykang and not mentioning how Mattlgroff made it, tweaked it, etc, nor asking permission to use Batakang in the first place.
I'll inquire more about this and get post back.
Also, If you haven't noticed, we're the only Moto MSM8960 device with a Probam thread....Funny how we have that but we can't have an off topic thread.....
TL : DR.... I dunno, see two lines up.

Pro bam is definitely not a better daily driver. Hell the wifi doesn't even work currently. And when I tried it it had more lag then pretty much any rom I've tried.

Probam was leagues ahead of PAC in terms of battery and speed many months ago, but that ship has definitely sailed now and the tables have turned

Pro bam should've asked for permission as far as I see it.

moto also released the D3's source to sourceforge today. wouldn't that include the audio bits?
I am of course looking at the source for ICS as we speak..
Possibly even testing how the source compiles.
But, I don't want to send the wrong message. I don't think ICS will be usable in any real way for the D3 till I either get source built up for the omap audio stuff (or a new kernel)
I'm just toying around with it, and getting use to the new layers.
@sarreq: I don't see any new source on Sourceforge for the moment:

I've been following Hascode's CM7 since I got my D3. He's been great and the support and discussion on it is great. Haven't read too much on the release of CM9 but seems like ICS is the main feature it needs before its release. I'm excited to try more ROMS on the D3, great phone!
This topic is way too small aosp android 4.0 roms are popping up everywhere except here

Yes, alpha, buggy, useless roms.
Look, it will take us a while to get it running but we will have it. Just relax.
I'd like to repeat: I'm not ignoring ICS
I'm actively working on it in my spare time between: D3 CM7 updates, Safestrap updates, and helping with the CM7 for Bionic.
Add to that: I'm also watching CM9 develop and doing testing there as well (I have 3 repo's going at the moment).
AndroidSims has is correct tho: It will be a toy to play with for the moment, even if I get it booting to the OS. No audio, no phone.
IMHO, CM9 w/ our current kernel will get us a lot further due to the compatibility issues. But, obviously CM9 will take a while.

Can't blame you. As much as I call it "work" flashing & re-flashing ROMs I can only imagine how much work it is to make them. One reason I have never taken that step to get to the next level here as I also deal with so much tech stuff at work and don't want it to consume all my free time too. BTW I also would never want to be doing those 24 hour dev marathons you do, hope you will finally sleep and pour those God awful Monster drinks down the drain where they belong! OK I'm through preaching.

I love the AOSP 4.0 ROM. It's the only one where everything feels snappy. The only issues with it though is that GMAIL doesn't show me my email messages at times. It just shows a white screen. It gets fixed with a reboot, so it's not a huge issue.

That's an old bug with custom ICS ROMs that are all based on CM9. You can go into settings, apps, GMail and clear cache when that happens instead of rebooting each time. Just keep in mind you'll probably still get that bug from time to time as it was never fixed.

We've got at least one phenomenal dev (Jmz) working on this phone, so I would expect to see CM at some point. The kernel was just released, and prior to that, there wasn't much that could be done other than the stock rom. Despite that, he gave us Sense 4+. I don't want to speak for him, and certainly voicing a request is the best way to show interest, but I'd say be patient.
All that said, I cannot wait for CM!

Partially I agree, but partially I don't. He said in the thread for his Sense 4+ ROM that he's currently working on another big app project and that he doesn't have the First as a priority. That's what I gathered at least, but I'm still thankful there's something out there and that he's put the time in

I voted on Cyanogen. It has tweaks, but not as many as say PA or AOKP so in theory it shuold be less code to merge.

Right, but they take obnoxiously long to release anything since they always want it to be as bug free as possible. I'd say they will be 3rd or 4th. AOKP or Paranoid will do it first. My money is on AOKP or Slimbean.

Android 4.3

4.3 is out. How long do you guys think it'll be we'll start working with it? I doesn't seem like a big update from our 4.2.2 roms but I have yet to get a hold of my friend Nexus 7. Anyone actually know of that is supposed to be actually exciting about it? Lmk
(p.s) I'm not gonna post links for it seeing as how you can't go to an Android site without seeing it lol)
I have a Nexus 4 that I'm using alongside my Atrix HD. Overall I can tell you that, honestly, aside from the animations being smoother and the battery efficient bluetooth I haven't noticed much. Then again, I haven't installed / reinstalled any of the more intensive games and applications that I used previously. The colors are just better out of the box with the Atrix HD compared to the Nexus 4. I don't always want to root my phones.

I heard mention of multi user profiles for 4.3. Maybe just a mistake, but I know I'd love to see that. My wife loves to get on my AHD to play games, but freaks out if she hits the wrong buttons somewhere. Something tells me a locked profile would help for her. Anybody heard anything besides me?
