That's a CDMA phone so it shouldn't work with GSM. That's why it's cheaper on ebay.
Maybe you'll get lucky and it has the GSM radios in hardware and they could be unlocked somehow.

You're out of luck, the US Cellular Moto X is a CDMA variant, and doesn't have the GSM bands to work on Indian networks. Let me ask you, when you're paying that much money, why didn't you take the time to do your homework? A simple visit to motorola.com would've answered this question for you. I'm not sure why anyone would trust an eBay listing blindly, especially when getting it shipped to a different country than where the phone is being sold. For future reference, always buy phones that are either factory unlocked and unbranded, or have support for AT&T or T-mobile in the US. Those are the only two carrier-branded phones you should be buying for use in India.
Sorry to say this, but you should've done a better job before putting money down like that.
brother actually im not blind instead of my friend in behalf of him i bought it i do know regarding Motorola i do have contacts with Motorola worldwide As my Moto Friends using US Cellular With GSM In asia so i buyed it blindly But when i sold to other person he told me this issue i think My frnds using prototype X'S Not final one,,,thanks for reply.
I think it probably does have gsm radios. The Verizon and sprint ones do. You just have to figure out how to turn it on. I've seen other threads where on the CDMA phones they had to dial a code to bring up a menu that would turn on the gsm

Hey,
if I buy the phone at full retail price without contract, is it then locked for sim cards as well? I cant find this information anywhere.
I'm thinking about buying it and take it home to europa. Thats why im asking.
Thanks
It might be, considering it's on Verizon, but I'm not sure if it'd even work in Europe. It is, primarily, on Verizon's CDMA bands and presumably the SIM is only for roaming usage, I'm not really sure if it would work to just buy it in the US and take it back home.
You can buy the overseas equivalent, which is the Milestone 3 and should be available(if not now, then soon). The Milestone, unless I'm mistaken, is GSM primarily.
If I have undesrtood correctly, Motorola Droid 3 works on European WCDMA networks. They advertise phone like "3G works more than 125 countries".
I have same problem. I want Droid 3. I have heard only one comment about Droid 3 Europe edition. It says that Milestone 3 comes to Europe in Q3 or Q4. News also say that it will not arrive to UK.
Only problem on Verizon model is hotspot restrictions and contract needed. I don't want pay 30$ for 2GB, because unlimited data costs 15$, in Finland..

I thought the one for 460$ is "contract free" ? Or what does full retail price means?

At droidforums.net guys want to take it to the uk, sim already insert.
It is defenetly working, my question is now, do i get it without contract?
The thing about waiting and buying it when it gets released at europa is no point, because when i buy it now for 460$ in the us, it means 340€ (if you now a Stewardess you do not even pay taxes and shipping). When it gets released here it might be around 450€, normally they change it 1:1.

Verizon wants to keep Droid 3. Still, if you buy it with cash, you must take Verizon to Operator.
I'm not sure, will BestBuy require Verizon use, because they are Verizon branded.

A unlock code ebay seller told me they get codes for the droid 3 as well.
He has over 6000 evaluations, i'll see in a few weeks.
I have always watched Droids Google and Verizon marks, and I like them(as stupid as it sounds) and if models come to eBay or somewhere, I'll buy it.

Yes, it is SIM locked even if you buy it at full retail price without a contract. If you're a Verizon customer and meet a handful of qualifications, Verizon will unlock the SIM free of charge. Beyond that, the only way to get it unlocked is to wait until some online vendors get codes for it. Once it's unlocked, it should work on pretty much any GSM network outside of the U.S.
Can D3 and activate on pageplus?? and where can i get the phone with no contract?
i think verizon offers $459 and amazon offers $549~ but how can i buy the phone with $459 price?
and can i return it if i cant get activated on pageplus
You need a verizon account to purchase the phone, or find a friend that does. The d3 should work on pageplus as its not a new 4glte device that requires a sim to activate, uses an old school *228 activation

what does that mean??
If I buy the phone from Amazon wireless will it be unlocked, that is, can it work anywhere in the world on any GSM provider's SIM?
A proper answer would be much appreciated.
I seriously wanna buy this phone and I am willing to pay the $550 price at Amazon wireless, if and only if, the phone is unlocked.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the D3 isn't a GSM phone. I'm pretty sure its only a global cdma

The Droid 3 is a GSM and CDMA handset, it is mentioned in the verizon manual for this handset that a sim card can be inserted, currently it is suspected however that this is sim locked.
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/mot_droid3/droid3.pdf
Go to the Global Phone section in this PDF and it is mentioned
It is a global phone that supports GSM networks. Arguing over it won't help us much. What will help is an answer to which version of the phone is unlocked for all GSM networks.
Its is a GSM global phone, includes a Verizon SIM that is locked. Verizon customers in good standing can get the phone unlocked with a call to Verizon Global support.

Hmmm....yes, but the question here is whether the phones with no contract are also SIM locked or not.
hi guys, can anyone answer my question
So, here's the response I got from the Amazonwireless guys:
{I'm very sorry but the replacement phones (phone only no service) on Amazonwireless are locked to the carriers. You would need to find an unlocked phone.
There are basically two types of unlocked phones. CDMA Unlocked and GSM Unlocked.
An Unlocked CDMA phone will basically work with carriers like Verizon, Alltel, and Sprint. Unlocked GSM phones work with carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Unlocked cell phones are designed to work with any carrier that uses SIM cards. Some advanced features may not work depending on the carrier you are using. I would recommend contacting the carrier you are going to be using to ask if the phone you are interested in will work with their network, and if there are any features that you would not be able to use.
If you would like to shop for an unlocked cell phone please visit Amazon.com using the link below
www(dot)amazon(dot)com/cellphones
I hope this information helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.}
Thomaslau it means that this phone still needs to be activated using *228 which pageplus accepts. 4gLTE phones do not use *228, they use a sim card to activate

so it will works???
What my understanding is with CDMA is that it's ALWAYS unlocked. The problem lies with carriers not allowing foreign ECID/IMEI's on their network database which allows the phones to work.
Should work flawless

ok, now i got my droid 3, but i struck at the activation menu, the one with the android robot. what should i do to activate my phone on pageplus?? do i need to activate my phone on verizon then pageplus?
I thought with pageplus you call them, give them the esn from the back of the phone, starts with a000000, then dial *228 when they tell you to

sorry let me rephrase that. you can use the phone overseas immediately.... granting that you're using the Verizon service internationally..... however if you want to use a localized Sim card.... then you need to have your phone unlocked. luckily for you..... Verizon has it in their contract that you can unlock your phone for free. 1 unlock per phone number per account. do a Google search on that and call their customer service. they'll walk you through the steps.
I did it last year when I took my iPhone to Beijing for work and wanted to use a local Sim card instead of racking up international costs...

I'm on unlimited data plan and don't really want to give it up, so looks like for that I'm going to have to buy a phone for a FULL price (( (so no contract for me), I never had "Global phone" but I think it'd be awesome to unlock this phone to the extend where I'd be able to use it overseas with their local SIM card so I don't have to pay some crazy amount of money to hungry Verizon ;p
VZW hasn't sold locked phones in over a year. I can't speak to the X specifically, but the new Droids are virtually identical and my Maxx is getting T-Mobile 1900 MHz 4G right now. I'm not sure if or how well it'll work with some carriers (US Cellular and Sprint, for example) based on their unique spectrum use, but if you're going to AT&T or T-Mobile it should work fine. Do some more research and ask whichever carrier you're switching to; T-Mobile helped me with setting up their APN manually, as my Maxx didn't detect the settings automatically.
Nobody seems to have told Verizon's tech support that the new phones are wide open, so they'll still tell you that any 4G phone they sell is internationally unlocked but "incompatible" with US GSM carriers. That's what they did with phones like the Droid RAZR, RAZR HD, and Galaxy S3: in the firmware which manages APNs, any network with a US country ID would be rejected as "unknown," so you'd typically get voice and SMS but no data.
Hi. I'm based in Bangalore, India. I plan to get a 32GB Moto X with a Bamboo back from a friend in the States. I have a few questions about it, if anybody would be kind to help that'd be awesome.
1) Is there an unlocked version of the device and will it work in India?
2) How much would the device cost me including tax? I know tax laws are different according to state but I'd like to know the price range it would fall in.
3) More general questions about the phone: Is it of a durable build quality? How's the camera? I've read a ton of reviews but I want to know some real life comments. Also, I don't want to accidentally crack my screen from the smallest drop and get into the trouble of having to send the phone overseas back to the USA for customer support.
Pm me I'll tell u in detailed

Sorry for hijacking this thread. I thought it better to post in this one than start a new one since my query is similar.
My question is which edition of Moto X is being sold in India? It is definitely an unlocked gsm phone as far as I know.
I would be moving to California for a little while and was wondering if I could use my Indian Moto X there on a prepaid gsm network like T-Mobile.
Any help would be appreciated.
Can't post the link to the Indian Moto x here due to new member restrictions. But it's being sold exclusively on flipkart.com
Hi guys I've just bought a US Cellular Moto X from eBay and I plan to use it here in Australia. I'm not very familiar with CDMA phones as all the networks here in Australia are GSM so I don't know the limitations of CDMA for overseas use. I've heard that an unlocked CDMA phone can be use with a sim card overseas but also heard that the Sprint Moto X can only be unlocked OTA or by flashing another ROM.
So my question is: 'Is there a way to unlock the US Cellular Moto X from overseas for overseas use with a sim card? And also is the boatloader already unlocked or do I have to unlock it myself like the verizon version?
Thanks in advanced

I'd return it if you can. AFAIK, the sim card slot on US cellular phones is only for their 4g LTE data and is not compatible with gsm networks. I could be wrong on that though.
The unlocked(t-mobile), gsm developer edition, or at&t would be best for gsm networks. Just know that you would probably need to buy a sim unlock code for the at&t model.
If you're looking at unlocking the bootloader, then go with the unlocked or developer model. If you're worried about warranty, get the developer edition since you can unlock the bootloader and you don't void your warranty if you fubar the phone.
Just my two cents.

Oh okay, because I bought it primarily to use as a kind of iPod replacement. Just to use it primarily for music and stuff because I already have the note 3 as my main phone. I was really wanting to get a T-mobile one but ended getting a really good deal for this one (saved around $150)
It would have been good to be able to use the Moto X as a backup phone or secondary device for when I go overseas or camping or something like that. But I'm not too worried about it, it would have just been nice to know I had the option. And as far as warranty - the phone has a bad ESN so I assume that the warranty is no longer in place? I'm not very familiar with the whole ESN thing either.
So is the boatloader locked on the US Cellular? And also would I be able to receive OTA updates with the bad ESN and all? Sorry for all the questions - I just have no clue on how network providers do their thing in America.
