[REVIEW] XtremeGuard vs ExoSkin - G2 Accessories

I ordered both skins the same night, the 29th. The ExoSkin arrived much earlier so...:
The ExoSkin arrived in 2 days, one earlier that the estimated date.
I thought I ordered a wood but black carbon arrived. (I did NOT check before finalizing the order). Something that's not unheard of apparently.
The return process is straight forward BUT, a 10 day turn around plus shipping was too much so I just sucked it up and installed it.
The rear cover has an "elaborate" cut. Installation was incredibly easy, and it goes on dry. Directions say to use a heat gun or hair dryer.
Once installed, using the hair dryer to warm the skin around the edges, the rear is covered very well. *One note: the cut-outs for the camera LED and "LG" and logo are very precise. They are lined up perfectly. So is the IR and both microphone holes BUT the skin is a tad off. About 1mm.
I'm happy with it but there's no screen protector which is going to add to the total cost.
Now the XtremeGuard. I just checked the website and the protector that is installed to my wife's phone is still listed as "pending".
it was shipped on the 30th so it probably arrived and have been in my mail box since the 2nd.
The XtremeGuard seems simpler. It comes with a small microfiber cloth, which I'll keep for quick wipes of my lens before photos, a cardboard squeegee, rear protector, screen cover and instructions. It goes on wet.
I've been installing protectors before hardened glass so I hit the protectors lightli with Windex, apply, then squeegee. I also used the hair dryer to get the edges to stick faster. There' was no issues at all, besides me placing the front slightly off. About that screen protector, the entire area left of and including the ear the ear speaker is one cut-out.
The material is grippy but not tacky. it's about the same as Ghost Armor and that's good.
I know I said in the title "vs" but there's no vs. Both are incredibly nice, I'm happy with both, I'd use either again. It's a Win/Win!
Edit: while typing i got an email from XgearLive customer support saying they'd give 50% off on my next skin. Which will be soon!

tôi không hiểu bạn có thế giúp tôi.

Sorry to barge in but I thought this is pretty revelant.
Anyone tried BodyGuardz yet?
http://www.bodyguardz.com/armor-carbon-fiber-skin-lg-optimus-g2.html?dir=asc&order=sort_priority
I like how the edges are wide cut to prevent any wired folding.
It's just sad that shipping is pretty pricey...

Just follow this link as i've now officially given up trying: https://plus.google.com/115616267169800778234/posts/4UDkLRceU7M

I'm looking into this option as well since they cover the edges unlike xtremeguard

While the bodyguard covers better than the xtremeguard it doesn't cover as well as the ExoSkin.
I just ordered 3 more cases and another xtremeguard screen protector for my phone, (the wifes' is getting the pink skin and I'm changing to the wood).

Guess what arrived tonight. There's also a white carbon that looks incredible.
My initial conclusion seems correct. The skins are tad off on the left.

Buy the xtremguard carbon fiber red but not perfect fit on my D802 EUR (unfortunately) but very beautiful! Bye bye glossy!
I have a white version too but for later
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app

I really like the look of the Exoskin but they only carry a Verizon version...

Nice! Just got my bodyguardz & will do a full review in a separate thread. How is the texture on the red carbon fiber? Is it slippery or a good grip like surface?
Had one from Bestskinever on my Galaxy S2 2 years ago. Loved it but it was sort of slippery & the white got dirty fast

The wood is incredible. Not only does my wife keep mentioning it I've gotten 3 separate compliments today.

Damn that does look good. I wish they offered skins for the non-verizon variants.

My BodyGuardz armor white arrived today.
Overall I'm pleased and I like the white with the all-black face. Makes the device look slimmer. However, I feel that the edges may not last with rough usage.. in and out of pocket. I can feel the edges pretty well..
I've ordered a clear case to go round it.. that should make it last.. hopefully.

I emailed them about this and I got this response today.
"Thank you for contacting us, our LG rep is currently in as we write this email to you and we are creating skins for the other G2 models. They should be available within the next 24 hours!

Looks like Exoskins will be available for non-verizon models soon!!

The product pages are up, but pictures didn't get finished in time. The pics will be up tomorrow, however they are pretty much the same as the Verizon EXOSkin, with obviously changes to accommodate the different cutouts.

Any case available that doesn't inhibit 'screen edge' touching?

Like when you move an icon from one home screen to another, you slide it to the edge and wait. I've tried a few different cases and they all have such a high edge on them taht they inhibit my thumb/finger's ability to go all the way to the edge of the screen - making it virtually impossible to move an icon.
The bigger issue is that it affects my typing when trying to quickly swype through the "P" or "Q", etc.
So...anyone have a case with a very low profile..allowing your finger to glide over that are similar to a case-less phone? I rarely, if ever, see that being discussed when cases are talked about.
I too am interested in what people have to say about this. I have a 2-piece hard case i don't use because it prevents me from using Swype effectively, so i just resorted to the Zagg full-body screen and avoid putting things in my pocket alongside my phone lol
I just use the verizon high gloss black case. it's a great fit. I actually had the body glove before but moved down to this one... don't drop my phone so I don't feel a need for a huge case ya know? I can now use swype and drag effectively as well.
Is the verizon case a two piece snap on or a flexible pull on?
Try the 'ElCheapo' in my sig.. swype works GREAT with it.

The Verizon case is a one piece flexible pull on.
I does have the raised lip you are talking about but it is not as pronounced as some of the aftermarket cases I've seen.
Here is one on eBay (this is the one I bought).
Verizon HTC Incredible Black Silicone Gloss Cover OEM
Just a side note...
When moving items from one screen to the other, I find it hard even without a case. A solution that works for me is to press the item you want to move and then use the virtual trackball to move from one screen to the other.

I have never had any troubles with swype while using this case. It covers no section of the screen and grips onto the small outer edge of the phone. Works like a charm!
I also hate hitting my case when swyping the screen. I find that the argile design case from amzer.com works best for me and I've been using it for a month.

admittedly, I don't have my DInc just yet but I ordered/received the Seidio Innocase Actice II for HTC Incredible... It came with a cardboard insert that mimics the phone actually being inside of it... The edges on this case seem to be really low profile and with this cardboard insert my finger can easily glide off edges.
You can get find an in-motion view of the same case for Evo on Youtube—I can't link as I am a n00b
My DInc is coming tomorrow so I will update with results but with the silicone edges and a slight inner bevel to this I think it may be what you're looking for... case features an outer exoskeleton that protects back and corners for more protection than just the silicone material could offer.

Thanks a bunch for this. Handhelditems.com is amazing!! I just ordered two "ElCheapo" skins and a 3-pack of screen protectors with express shipping (3-5 days) shipping for $15. I've seen a good review of the screen protectors and I think I'll wind up being very pleased for the money.
I used the 30% off coupon code found at http://www.techbargains.com/vendor_detail.cfm/596/Hand-Held-Items-coupon-code
Seidio Active case is pretty much non-intrusive...with good access to the screen.

UPDATE...
Swype beta appears to be closed but I've had my phone and Seidio Innocase Active for a few weeks now and I think this case will work just fine with Swype and the edge issue you mentioned.
Silicone case from best buy. Just for a red one today.

the Barely There case by Case-Mate is the best i've seen thus far. I absolutely love mine. Though the face of the screen isn't protected very well, the corners and back are. Its material feels the same as the battery cover on the back of the device. It looks nice and is very comfortable.

Well, I just got my cases and screen protectors yesterday. The cases are fantastic for the price. The screen protectors on the other hand were all cut to big and left bubbles after applying them, so I'm having them send me new ones. At least it was only $4 for all three.
I picked up the Spect case from my local VZW yesterday. I had the faded black/red from vzw and I hated the sides on it.. I wanted a one piece, not a 2 piece..
well this one is friggin awesome. The sales folks working there had never heard/seen the case before and In the 30 minutes I was in the store, 4 employees bought it after playing with it on my phone and 2 additional customers bought it as well. its a one piece design and the interior is cloth so it wont scratch up the screen. I dont have an issue with Swype as it doesn't cover the front at all.
Well worth checking out...
Innocase ii here, no issues at all.

Your welcome! What colors did you get? I got the black first then ordered the Burgundy later on.. I was kinda hoping it would be a bit darker though.
Did they give you any kinda application fluid for the screen protectors?

I ordered 3. What a bargain!
FYI for those that care, these are wet application protectors. I personally do NOT like wet application protectors.
Just placed my order. Not sure how well this product performs against yellowing or UV but we'll see. @ 80% off I ordered 2 just in case lol

Not at all. It is applied with water. So it doesn't come off at all.
FYI. I ordered an Exo Skin the same time as this. the Exo Skin has already arrived and been installed while this hasn't even shipped yet.
And that's with the extra $.99 for "priority" processing.
Tell you what, the clarity, feel and resistance to fingerprints/oils of these is much better than VZW ones. I ordered two last week at regular price and received them in 4 days. I ordered a few more at this price.

Pretty much covers whole screen except camera/sensor/notification light/earpiece. It goes edge-to-edge which may be a problem with some cases. Though I find these wet application protectors are not as prone to having edges pushed up by cases since they adhere better to the screen. Haven't had an issue with my diztronic case and this screen protector.

I purchased some of these protectors and installed them on my G2. The feel is good, installation was typical of a soft film protector. I installed the screen guard and back skin two days ago, and have noticed a problem.
On my screen I noticed what appeared to be scratches. I was afraid I scratched the glass before I installed the protector. The scratches run in the long direction of the screen and vary from 1/16th to 3/8ths of an inch long and are about 1 to 2 pixel rows wide, and are randomly located all over the screen..
On closer inspection I noticed on the back skin a number of scratches that look just like the defects I see in the screen. These did not show up until last night, so I have to conclude that they are defects in the adhesive application from manufacturing, that did not show up until the moisture from the protector installation had evaporated. I was getting ready to return the phone as defective until I noticed the same defects on the back skin.
I only paid $2 for the set, so still a good deal. But slightly annoying.
Definitely worth two bucks
I've had mine applied for over 3 days now, long enough that I can give a decent opinion of the product. As other members said, these are wet application protectors, and I was concerned when mine showed up in a plain white envelope SOAKING wet. Luckiky it didnt seem to have any impact on the installation. I've applied dozens of wet application protectors, and this was no easier or harder than the rest. There is a very slight orange peel texture visible (nowhere near Zagg level), but i can not feel it. The fit is great, leaving no gap on either side of the screen, and an uncovered area at the top and bottom about the thickness of my thumbnail (it looks like it would accommodate a Ringke Slim-type case if one became available without touching the protector). It is physically tackier (or less smooth) than higher end films, but not unbearably so. The fit of the back cover is acceptable, and does WONDERS for the G2s normally slick back. You will want to do as the instructions say and let the pieces that apply to rounded areas dry completely before trying to stick down. My only real complaint is that almost all edges have no bevel or taper to them, attracting lint and just feeling odd when you touch them, like you might accidentally lift an area up (which hasnt heppened, once dried, it feels very secure, but it's always in the back of my mind).

Take a look at the screen when it is displaying a white or grey background, and look for rainbowy/glimmery lines running the long direction of the phone, They are hard to see until you notice one, then you will see them all over. I ordered two sets of protectors, I'm hoping this one is an oddball. If you don't see the lines I might install the other set. You have to look very carefully for them.

Aluminum Frame Review (Fits ALL VARIANTS)

So I took the plunge and purchased the aluminum frame found here:
I just got it in the mail and fitted it to my Verizon G2. Here's what I found:
1) As it's a bumper frame it doesn't cover the whole phone (duh) but the frame interior is fitted with a thin foam material to absorb shock and help with the fit. padding is found on the sides and corners of the frame's interior.
2) It comes with a screen protector. (dry apply 4h hardness aka throw away protector)
3) the lip on the front of the phone gives plenty of allowance for screen protectors but is so thin I'm afraid it may eliminate any glass screen protectors except for maybe the iLoome flex which is .12mm thick.
4) As the back is exposed I'm also investing in a body film like this.
5) Shipment was much faster than projected which is nice since it arrived on my doorstep from mainland China in only 2 weeks.
6) The fit on the front is great, but there are gaps between the back of the frame and battery plate. I was surprised by this since the VS980 is supposed to be the thickest G2.
7) as the back is open the aluminum does not interfere with my signal at all- not wifi, not 4g, nothing.
8) There is a cut out to access the Sim tray, but got to really want it out. Otherwise, you'll need to take the bumper off.
9) My phone can now stand on it's own! May come in handy every once and awhile.
Here's some pictures I'll answer any other questions you guys may have.
this is exactly what i was looking for.
Awesome! Thanks! just what I needed.

Do you screw it in?
yeah, there are 2 tiny screws at the bottom where you secure everything together. I should also mention how it actually ships with spare screws and a driver.
Bought this with a brushed steel wrap from slickwraps. Lets see how well it turns out on my black G2
Thanks for the review! Do you think you could take a picture of it standing up and also a picture detailing what you said for #6?
I bought a metal case for my last phone (Note 2) and it made reception worse. Maybe you guys will have better luck with this one
I ordered this in Champagne and the IQ Shield for my white LG G2... I hope it works out. Thanks for the review, I'll post back when I get mine (2 weeks shipping on the case)

thanks for taking the plunge buddy! ive had my eye on this one for a while but since i too have the vs980 i was weary of getting it as most cases stated they were compatible with the verizon model but in reality arent. i like bumpers and have a tpu that isnt made for the vs but it works. i ordered one of these and am excited to get it now. thanks!

Although that looks nice, I believe you'll have problems with signal and GPS, etc. Maybe wireless charging too if you have the VZW one.
Good to see people are giving this bumper a try. I've bought 4 cases for the vs980. This one finally adds a premium feel to the phone. And now I have some wet apply clear body film on it I think it's protected enough.
Whoever requested pics of it standing up I haven't forgotten about you. They're coming!
I would buy this in an instant if it wasn't for the bottom right corner. That eyesore should have been smoothed off like the other 3 corners

I think it was meant to be there because that's what holds the phone up if you're setting it on a flat surface, so you can watch videos or w/e. at least, that's what makes the most sense.

Yup! If you look real close at my pic of the bottom of your phone you can see the screw holes.

Spigen Screen Protector

Just wanted to let everyone know that Spigen does have screen protectors for the Neo. I ordered them before mine even showed up and they got here on the 10th, same day as my Neo. They are a wet apply protector and go on nice and easy. Given the size of the device alignment can be a bit tricky. Its 10 bucks for 3, which isnt bad IMO.

iSmooth Gear 2 Neo screen protector
Ordered and received this screen protector:
http://www.amazon.com/iSmooth-Samsung-Ultra-Screen-Protector/dp/B00IMMBZHK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
The packaging was for the correct protector (Gear 2 Neo) but it was a little smaller than the screen (which I did not mind) BUT, the top and bottom edges would not stay stuck to the screen. After looking closer, the top and bottom edges are slightly tapered and this protector was not flexible enough to follow these contours.
I called the company and they are going to re-measure for a better fit.
They refunded 100% of my Amazon purchase w/o questions.
Still looking for a good protector.
There are not too many choices.
TL
They are not refunding me. I would have to pay return shipping. I even sent them pictures. At 10 bucks i will eat the cost and just tell all my customers at Samsung and Best Buy how crappy they are. Even best buy mobile manager couldn't get them on properly or have them look good and he has done hundreds of screen protectors. They have the orange peel effect and even though they have the proper tools to get the bubbles out there are dents from the installation. 3 different people tried the 3 included. I mean do they expect me to ship an empty box. I love spigen products but these are garbage.

I guess im confused. Mine were cake to install, look pretty good, and given i did it in the dark and in a rush, they lined up pretty well. The orange peel is minimal, and their are no indentions. Its my experience that you only get grooves if you try to force all the bubbles out. With wet apply screen protectors thats the worst thing you can do. It takes a day or two for them all to go away, but they do go away. And, orange peel is one of the downsides to most of the rubbery type screen protectors, at least all of the ones ive encountered.

Mine was pretty easy to install as well. As a matter of fact, I noticed that my watchface was scuffed up pretty good in one of the corners. I gently peeled back the spigen protector and the actual watch is just fine. I'll replace the protector tonight since I have two more. Good investment for me.

I needed something to protect the screen from scratches so I'm going with these for now. I have mine applied without bubbles w/ minimum orange peel. What I hate though is that this is the gummy type of protector that I kind of hate touching compared to smooth. I would not have ordered these if I knew that was the case. Heck, I'd buy a tempered glass one if someone sold it as that's what I use on all my phones and tablets now. I wish at least a smooth/slick one was available.
I ordered the spigen screen protectors but I have a zagg designed for the Gear 1 installed. It seems to be holding up well. Has anyone used both and noticed a big difference in quality? I was going to leave the zagg on til it deteriorates but if the spigen is way better I'll take it off and switch. The zagg doesn't cover 100% of the face.

Skinomi have been a great value
Guys, I just purchased the Skinomi screen protector. 6 for $10.00 delivered. Very easy to apply, fits screen excellent, and can't even tell its there. Good product. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Ordered the Spigen direct made a mess installing it as per the instructions but I followed the final step, which was leave it alone and the bubbles, etc will disappear.
Well two days in the screen protector looks perfect, quite amazing.
Anyway only gripe it screen sensitivity on swipping especially down needs more pressure.

I'll second that. I applied the protector 2 days ago. It went on easy and had several bubbles. By yesterday 90% of the bubbles were gone, today there are none.
Jp
Used these on my Neo and Gear 2, learned to just slap them on and the bubbles totally dissappear after a day or so for a perfect finish

Best choice for film screen protector

Now that my S7 Edge has shipped I'm in a rush to get a case and screen protector. I've never had an Edge device before and it seems like most people hate film type protectors, but that's all that's really out right now. What's the best one to get until something better comes along?
Hands down its the SuperShieldz one. I've tried Skinomi, Ilumeshield, and Spigen but they can't compare to the SuperShieldz. People have been asking me for pictures so I'll post them up this afternoon when I get home fromnrh gym. I did a quick review on Amazon which I'll link below, but it's great! I bought another set as a backup for later just in case.

Fitment doesn't look that great in your pictures, what's with the 1/8" gap at the bottom corners? Or is that a common issue with these edge devices?
I found this one with good reviews but it looks like they're mostly from tablets.

You have to remember how they need to cut these in order to have them wrap correctly. It's not possible to have one that will cover anything without some compromises. I did take more pictures which I need to upload (I'll post them shortly). The screen protector does cover 99% of the screen unlike my Spigen which only covered ~70-80%

Fair enough. Maybe I'll buy these and the ones I linked to since they're both cheap and see which is better.
Great, no one has anything in stock and my phone is going to be here in a couple days. Not even the case I want is in stock, have to get two so one comes in time.

Yea, and imagine living in Canada, where shipping is expensive/long from the US and there's very limited choices in Canada ?
I should have ordered last week. Figured I'd have more time with Verizon lagging behind on the pre-orders.
I just ordered some XtremeGuard screen protectors because of the huge sale, no clue when they'll get here. There's nothing on Amazon with Prime that I can order, guess I'll have to keep the plastic on it that it comes with until I get the protectors.

You can ignore my slightly misaligned install. I was in a hurry (which is usually a bad idea when installing screen protectors), so it would be perfect if I installed my second one that came in the pack.
Here are some pictures:

I bought it from tmobile store cause it was all they had but it gets bubbles at top no matter what due to the installation process. Waste of $25 and neither tmo or the maker would give me refund

Can you use a case with the screen proctector? Does it go all the way to the edge?
Looks better than the Spigen!

Well considering I'm using my Tech 21 case in that picture yes you can. I've tested it with all of my cases (see my OP in this forum) it works fine. You do have to be care with some cases and lift their 'lip' so it sits on top of the protector when inserting your phone so it won't pull it up, but once you do that there are 0 issues. That's the +/- of having a E2E screen protector for the top/bottom and sides. I'll post more of my case reviews this evening so you can see how it fits in my 7-8 cases

All,
I got the supershieldz as well. Here are a few of my observations. The film has two protective coats that have to be removed. One is the sticky side that gets applied to the screen. The second is a pin film that is on the touch side. This one was a pain to remove. To get a good fit. I removed the side and place it on the phone then took the stick tabs and aligned the bottom and top to the phone. once it was aligned I worked from a corner to pull off the pink film. its a royal pain. the paper tab comes off at times but I made it work. Once the pink film is removed I used a card to smooth out the film or any bubbles. This film is very thin and feels sticky at first but this will go away after a few minutes of use. The film will mark up easily if you have long nails. Also, it does tend to bunch up if you put on a case. This was the case with the otterbox commuter, spigen tough, vrs case and UAG. But I was able to adjust them easily. The good news is that I have been using the phone for over a week now and no lifting. I had the s6 and used spigen and finally gave up. But this one is working well.

I agree, the install is a huge PITA, but the end result is well worth it. As I mentioned cases do work you just have to ensure their lip doesn't bunch it up when putting the phone in. If you read the directions you would've seen where it said gently press out the big bubbles with the included card wrapped in a microfiber cloth. I did this and didn't have any issues getting it to install correctly despite my slight misalignment.

I can confirm this. I bought this from tmobile a few days ago. I have bubbles at the top and the sides are already peeling up around the curved edges.
