[Q] Whats the best ROM for performance - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've been using the official 4.2.2 builds of CM, but its starting to get annoying how bad the lag can be loading apps and switching screens.
I've changed the performance settings and various other little tweaks, but nothing seems to have fixed the issue.
I'm now thinking of trying a different ROM, can anyone recommend a ROM that fast. Not really that fussed about features as as long as bluetooth works.
I was looking at Slimbean but bluetooth doesnt work, so I'm thinking of trying the carbon ROM.
Anyone able to recommend any tweaks/ROMS
Cheers

[Q] How many people are running stock ROMs?

I have never found any ROM that runs as well as the stock JL2 (I9000M) I am on now. GPS works great (10 sats seen with 32.8ft/10m accuracy), no lag at all, no nothing, the phone works as advertised. I don't have all the features the other ROMs have, but I don't have any problems either.
Just curious how many people are running stock ROM's.
Ian
ROMs offer more than GPS fixes. I use a custom ROM for its visual enhancements, some bundled features and fixes (like wifi drain, etc.) and lag fixes which are not otherwise found in many stock releases.
That said, if one is comfortable with the performance on the whole, then one shouldn't really bother moving across cooked ROMs -- you're right at that
To be honest I never entirely understood why people ran stock ROMs for daily use. Custom ROMs are just so much more versatile, faster (lagfix!), and generally better, so I see no use in running a stock ROM over a cooked one.
EDIT: Except for ROM selection, I guess.. I don't believe there are any cooked ROMs running JL2 right now. Soon as I get my phone back from repair I'll start workin' on one.

I only mentioned the GPS as an example because this seems to be one point people are having difficulty with. I get no lag with my phone at all so no lag fix is needed, everything works very well.
I do miss some of the extras on the cooked ROMs like the cool multi-colored 'X' at boot-up on Darky's ROM, the extra SGS tools (I did download them separately though), and other stuff.
I did install the Gingerbread keyboard from that ROM onto mine as it's just a simple apk install.
stock
I have stock JPX but with advance voodoo. over clocked to 1.2 gingerbread launcher and keyboard with aosp lockscreen.
used to flash roms on hero and dream and they just lost to many features or after a few month got very buggy so staying away this time.
What is a stock ROM?? I think I saw or heard that thing when I bought my phone 4 months ago
Seriously, if you're happy with what you have, then stick with it

That mod seems to be subjective...thats why I haven't installed any custom ROMs, all the ones I've seen include Voodoo's visual enhancements, but everything on the screen looked slightly over-exposed and washed-out to me.
The only thing i miss with a stock ROM is the superior idle battery life, anything else cant be missed.

See, its a matter of personal taste and preference.
Compare it with a car. You buy a car and some people like it stock and untouched. The stock ride is good anyway and is mostly fine. Some people want to personalize the car and put alloys, change interiors. Some want more performance and put some engine enhancement parts or boosts.
Same goes with your phone. You can pimp it any way you want by using different ROMs or you can stay at stock.
No one can tell you and convince you what you are missing unless you try it.
I've been using stock rom, currently jpo, will upgrade to jpy via kies as soon as I get some time.
I have tried a lot of different roms in the 4 months I have had my phone.
I always found the cooked roms a bit flaky, not too bad, but enough where I always go back to stock.
Is there a list somewhere where I can see the changes between 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1?
Thanks,
Ian
PS, sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I'll take 20 lashings out of petty cash.
I'm running with Darkys V7.6 Rom at the moment it is much, much faster then the stock XXJPY and im now running speedmod instead of voodoo and battery life has improved a little.
Overall i think if you can make a rom or use a custom one with all of the required lagfixes and other little tweaks they are far superior to stock roms!
I am a big fan of Stock ROMS in general. The cleaner the better I always say... The new JL2 ROM is very nice. Fast, stable, and works well. I do like to change the home screen for visual stylings.
That being said, I blew my phone up yesterday trying to download 2.2.1 from Kies so I am currently running Darky 7.6.

[Q] Camcorder problem with Mintberry and Cyanogen roms

Hello everyone,
After lots of searching and no solution, I decided to post the problem here.
I have been using Cyanogen mods for the past couple of months and I am pretty happy with it. It's fast, reliable and generally stable.
The same I believe also for MIUI and derivatives such as Minberry, Galnet etc.
I haven't able to pinpoint the exact time this problem happened, but I believe it started after the 7.1 update.
Since then, HD video on ALL Cyanogen roms I have tried, is choppy and terrible.
I have tested Cyanogen roms, MIUI, MIUI US, Galnet MIUI and Minteberry. I have also tested in combination with Platipus kernel, default kernels and glitch kernel. I have also tested with various radios. I have tried several different apps for video recording.
Still I get the same, choppy, laggy and generally frustrating video recording functionality, when I use HD recording.
I don't know what else to try. I am currently running the latest Mintberry 1.11.18 and the latest glitch kernel and I am having the same problem.
The weird thing is that, my brother also has the i9000 with Cyanogen mod and he doesn't have this problem, camcorder on his phone works fine.
I have tried going back to stock roms and Darky's, but I have found the sluggishness and speed, more frustrating than the camcorder not working.
I have read that this is a common problem with Cyanogen mods, but I am not sure that this is the case. I mean, why is there a problem on some devices and on others there is no problem?
In any case, has anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?
If I am not able to solve this problem, I will eventually sell the phone and buy something else. I like MIUI and the Galaxy S in general, but not being able to record my little daughter while she grows up, beats the purpose of having it
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] ROM thoughts, been gone a while...

Hey everyone,
I have a question for you guys since i haven't been around in a long while..
I'm running Temesak 2.6.32.59 on the snappyOC kernel ....yes, i'm still on 2.3.7. (Temesak 135.3)
Since my phone has been acting odd lately (namely falling into Airplane mode by itself... very annoying), i was either going to wipe it and start over or try something different.
What i need to have functional i the Bluetooth for the car, and Wifi tether for when i'm on the road (to my laptop)...
I'm not sure about ICS and above due to the phone's limitations (cpu, ram, etc) I would like something smooth and stable.
....does anyone have any ideas??
THANKS!!
There problems with bluetooth with jb and up. I have no ideas about cm9 but if I am not mistaken all cm9 roms are terrible because there were no ics sources at that time. Maybe a modoified ics stock based rom could fit your needs.
If you want something basic, smooth and stable, then LG stock ICS is good. You can at least expect the basics to be right
If you need root capabilities, then as bitdomo said you can find a stock ICS based custom ROM.
Just wanted to say thanks so far for the great advice!
Maybe i'll try an ICS rom.... any ideas?
I've really grown found of Temesak's GB, has never let me down along with the overclocking and ramhack... did i mention i really like this Rom?
I need something that can be used everyday and has functioning Bluetooth (for my car audio/phone) and Wifi Tethering
Any ideas?
....or i was going to wipe the phone and reinstall Temesak's 135 GB
(what's the best best way to wipe a phone and reinstall, according to you?)

[guide] best roms/kernels for i9305

Hi all ! I made this thread to share with you my experience with i9305 roms/kernel and to make it easy to users which rom to choose ! I tried almost every rom/kernel for i9305 and here are my feedbacks.I didnt make thus thread to say this rom is good and this one is bad! just to compare depending on stability speed battery life ... on every android version you will find the best rom! Let's start
ROMS
Android Lollipop 5.x
Android Lollipop 5.1.x
AICP 9.0 Rom: I personally think that this is the best 5.1.x rom for i9305!
It s really fast and stable and has a great battery life
Note: RR rom is awesome also but aico is more stable (I got some fcs with RR)
Android 5.0.x
In android 5.0 I ll give to great roms to try
1.CyanogenMod 12 : even it is an unofficial rom but cm12 by winxuser is amazing specially stable build
2.AICP 8.0 : it is unofficial also but a very good rom
Androod KitKat 4.4.4
so in kk 4.4.4 I ll devide it to 3 sections : stock/stock based . Note 4 rom . S5 rom
Stock/stock based
I think Amcha rom is the best stock based 4.4 rom for i9305 ! n4 and s5 trasformers are there
Note 4
N4 Elite lite is the best
S5
S5 elite lite is the best
thanks @MaHo_66
Note: also qasim's note 4 ultimate rom is good but it has some bugs and issues
Alsi The Galaxy Project rom is amazing but it has less features compared to amcha
Kernels
For Lollipop 5.1.x
Agni 2.9.1 is the only one currently
For Lollipop 5.0.x
Boeffla is the best in battery life
Archie is the best in features
For KitKat
Agni kernel is the best
Thanks all
Thanks for your opinions. I planning to make S3 LTE my next phone, and for someone who is just starting here, knowing what others are enjoying the use of is great start for my flashing beginnings. Especially with the huge list of ROMs available. I know these "best ROM" threads are normally looked down upon, but I always value others opinions. Good starting point for S3 LTE noobs.
I've tried quite a few ROMs on my I9305. Only had it a few months.
CM12.1 - very smooth, the smoothest I've tried. GPS takes minutes to fix and not very accurate, data unreliable, many video playback problems, so I reluctantly left it (at BETA 4 stage).
AICP 8 (5.0.2) - quite smooth but I could not get rid of an issue with music dropouts when screen is off, despite trying all the kernels etc. A few extra features like ad blockers which didn't seem to work too well.
CM11 - very smooth (smoother still with ART on). GPS also not very good and data unreliable, but video playback at least is OK. Sleep of death on occasions. Seemed to chop the beginning off sound notifications, so didn't always hear them. Music drops out when cell connectivity changes. More bugs that I've forgotten. This was last month so I doubt it's any better now.
N4 Elite (KK stock based) - very pretty but very laggy. If you disable (root app delete) most of the features it gets better but still laggy. Smooth one minute, laggy the next, as though some process was misbehaving. Worth keeping an eye on in case it gets smoother.
S5 Elite (KK stock based) - a lot of trouble to install for some reason, lots of connectivity issues, completely failed to connect to my office wifi at all (EAP auth). Didn't try it for very long so no idea about GPS etc.
4.4.4 stock - no major problems, a few graphical glitches (may have been Agni kernel), not quite as smooth as 4.3, no reason to use it over 4.3 as we had transparent status bar anyway and Samsung did not enable ART.
4.3 stock - everything works! Data and Wifi are reliable, GPS fixes in seconds and is accurate to 10 feet, no issues or glitches with anything at all. And it's smooth. Not as smooth as CM12.1 but smoother than any KK rom I tried. This is with lots of the Samsung crap turned off/deleted of course.
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------
I should add that I am using 4.3 at the moment. I like trying the new ROMs but eventually I just want a phone that works properly so I go back to 4.3!
Best Roms
I have to agree Amcha too is my favourite stock based. Smooth and great with Google launcher.
I have tried all the 5.x ROMs and as a CM fan go CM12 closely followed by AICP both using custom kernel as I need the extra volume being a bit deaf.
But at the moment I'm using the new Miui 6 rom . I have to say thanks to those who work on it - its smooth , very fast, decent battery life, excellent modem in the UK, bug free from what I can see and just works well. It takes a bit of setting up to clear up some of the CN apps etc but definitely my daily for now. I'm sticking with 4.4.4 because I use iPlayer a lot and sadly none of the 5.x's will run on it yet.
Updated to 5.6.6 today
Now has 4 way boot and more toggles ie Sync among other fixes/improvements. OTA appears broken but downloaded from the miui link and flashed in 'normal' way.
*Mega download doesn't seem to work on mobile - just opens Mega app advert for the Playstore .

I don't know I used something called rom cleaner right after I flashed it.
I've now found a better option anyway - Amcha ROM. It's based on stock Samsung 4.4.4 (so everything works) but it is de-bloated from the start, and has plenty of options in the aroma installer for adding extras that you want and removing stuff that you don't. It's also extremely smooth. You get a choice of three UI styles - S3 (stock), S5 and N4. I tried the N4 option but that still has some issues with colours I think (some menus with white text on white). The S5 UI is perfect and has no issues.

You can also mix up the Stock i9305, S5 and Note 4 styles if you wish. I 'experimented' as I kind of prefer the Stock menu style rather than the coloured circles for About, Wifi etc, but like inparticular Note 4 styling. The white on white bug could do with a fix though.
on stock jb my i9305 was always a battery eater.
I tried many roms but all had problems . .
I found r-extreme jb and everything worked nicely for ages, till I got sdcard corruption. . a jb/kernel issue, can't remember now. But kk was maturing, and I wanted better battery life. .
Then I found SlimSaber 4.4.4. The camera just worked, unlike other kk roms that need workarounds. The display dpi was far too small for my aged eyes but easy to fix. Gps required an app to set region, then it worked fine. Some cut and try with modems, as usual. I find the "real dark slim" very clear to read.
Then google-play-services auto updated and the phone never went to deep sleep. My battery problems got worse. None of the "fixes" worked so I re-installed and went gapps free. I imported my contacts from a vcf, email from the builtin email app, maps from nokias "here" app.
After 6 months the only thing I really miss is calendar sync, but for me battery life has now doubled and my phone is fast and lag free.

Best custom rom for daily use?

I would like to try some other rom than the stock one, preferably a lollipop rom, that runs CM and is faster than stock.. I know there aint many roms for this device, but i thought it would be good to hear what you guys are using and why you think it is the best
You can use any of the Lollipop roms available as they are pretty much the same. But make sure the rom works for you in terms of the specific features it provides. There have been some reports of a rom not working well for some people, so you will have to manually see which one is working for you.
My personal preference is the PACMan rom. CM12.1 hanged on my Mini 2 for some reason.
Before you flash a lollipop rom, remember that there are a few issues common with all of them. The speakers produce a clicking/buzzing sound at the highest volume, which is because the boomsound drivers weren't released. This issue can be reduced by using various audio effects like Viper Audio etc. Also the camera performance has also decreased compared to the stock rom, and the stock camera app freezes a lot. A temporary workaround for this is to install the HTC camera app and Gallery.
